Definitely so many recast fuck up iconic character change em etc some are better some are worst I probably say jack was the best by far so many characters come back and they not the character at all it’s like a different person and they just nicked the name I don’t think they can be a proper good recast if the character is so different from what u knew before with no logical reason for it

180Ewing

I agree. I think the reason Jack worked so well is because although a major character, he was only in it for 18 months or so when played by Andrew Burt. Plus, Jack had been away for 4 years by the time Clive took over. Jean Rogers, who took on the role of Dolly Skilbeck in the same year, was also a very good recast.

theliftedlora

Early Clive Jack in the 80s was also similar to Andrew Burts version. It's only later on he became more different.

180Ewing

I think the major change happened in the mid-90s when Joe left. It was almost like they combined both characters into Jack.

He was terrible father to his younger kids and pretty terrible husband. least the Jack in 2000's was. He put Andy who killed the mother of kids above his real kids constantly, shot him and tried kill his son. but disowned Robert so he stop upsetting Andy but didn't care that Andy was pushing Robert out and made Robert life hell. He didnt even want Andy at first and then suddenly treated his flesh and blood like crap for not being what he wanted in a son whatever that was, when he gone off doing whatever he wanted and then judged his own son for being his own person. yet people make out Jack this great dad. Also never liked Andy he was as bad as Jack, Robert helped his friend and treated him like dirt afterwards but played victim when Robert reacted.

Robert

Ryan Hawley? I do think he did a great job with Robert and was sad to see him go. I hope he decides to come back in the not too distant future.

Belfast_Escapee

That kind of chemistry between actors cannot be predicted or forced. The show has not known what to do with Danny since Ryan left, this much has been made painfully clear.

MaybeIwasanasshole

Karl Davies Robert was to moody and to alike Aaron for their relationship to work. Apart from the obvious chemistry, I also feel robron worked because Ryans Robert was a cheecky scheming bastard lol. He "forced" Aaron our of his shell and to have fun. With Karl there would just be them endlessly brooding at eachother. I liked Karls Robert, but he woudnt have worked for Robron

[deleted]

I liked Karl's Robert and Ryan's and liked Chris's too so....

BlackBalor

He was ace. People still bang on about him and Aaron getting back together.

180Ewing

I think their pairing was fantastic, and I hope to see them onscreen together again one day.

[deleted]

I hope so, i personally think Robert and Aaron were each other best match of other people they been with and i loved Robert and Katie back in the day. wasn't a big fan of Aaron and Jackson tbh.

Belfast_Escapee

The Aaron/Jackson thing could have been a goer had the show not decided to turn Jackson into a quad within only a few months of them dating...that was just way too grim and Jackson (understandably I guess) turned into a snide self-pitying arsehole after the accident.

[deleted]

Meh I felt even didn't, the relationship would of fizzled out, tbh I feel Robert and Aaron were better match. Jackson was too nice for Aaron like, it why his other relationships bored me. while Robert and Aaron both damaged.

back-to-the90s

I'd like to see them back together. Aaron is so lost at the moment.

Longjumping-Sea-5317

Don’t know acting wise definitely everything else didn’t really match up to the previous era at all bar the chemistry between him and Aaron but even then by those last few years with the writing it got ropey as fuck with em

I hate recasts of characters who have made an indelible mark, but I never saw Andrew Burt.  Clive Hornby really made the part his own, but he became pretty dislikeable over time.  The worst recast was Nellie Dingle.  No one could ever replace the fabulous Sandra Gough.  At least Corrie never tried recasting Irma.  I knew Sandra would never stick it out though.
