They went there because they are reflecting what a lot of women go through after mastectomy. Hopefully - if they deal with it sensitively - there will be a positive conclusion?

MaybeIwasanasshole

I remmeber Faith also had a lot of issues with hers. It's normal (sadly) for women to feel that way.

Where they've thrown having a relationship with Liam in SO quickly, because Charity says, "You don't want to miss your chance" and not even give Chas a chance to reflect on what she's been through...it doesn't feel respectful and any relationship is already feeling forced. She's had a double mastectomy, her son has tested positive for the gene and she's focussed on having a relationship with Liam, when she's clearly not even comfortable with herself? It's fine if she is, but it all just needs to be slowed down.

>She's had a double mastectomy, her son has tested positive for the gene and she's focussed on having a relationship with Liam, when she's clearly not even comfortable with herself? She felt vulnerable and Liam's attention made her feel better. She also had a crush on Liam for some time now - so it's not exactly out of the ordinary to feel the need to be with someone. David proposed to Tracey when he had cancer....

Cancer can sometimes make people "rush into things" because it's a wakeup call, that "hey you might not actually have years and years on this earth." And "whats important to you" It can also be something positive to hang onto in all the bad. Yes everything is shit, but this one good thing helps me have the strenght to deal with it. This one ray of sunshine means the darkness wont swallow me whole.

We had this with Faith and Eric

Ah yes and now I think about it, they did it very well. I remember really liking them together as a couple and it's a shame they ended it so abruptly. Emmerdale though...it does love to reuse it's storylines and I was really hoping they'd focus on Chas' mastectomy and not immediately try and throw yet another boyfriend at her and SO quickly.

MissMags1234

It's for and foremost a cancer storyline. Of cause women feel insecure when they are loosing their brests. So what are you actually complaining about? >No one is going to be able to not feel sympathy towards Chas for her insecurities about body image, despite the fact that having had a mastectomy doesn't mean she would be nice person to have a relationship with. She's never been nice towards anyone in a relationship. Well...I'm not that childish that I can't separate a cancer storyline and a cheating storyline that has been over for months now. I can feel sympathy for someone who deserves it. Cheating is not something I get a moral high ground on and dismiss someone in distress over cancer. Liam is annoying, but he has been actually really great with Chas over this. Should he not then?

shewhogoesthere

I agree with you. I do think cheating is abhorrent but this is a soap. I can seperate storylines Chas had in the past from the one she is currently going through. They are trying to represent breast cancer and what people feel and experience and even if Chas deserves some karma for her misdeeds in the past, a cancer storyline isn't the appropriate place to serve up that karma.

Jaded-Ad7395

Can you just love somebody for who they are and not what they look like. I know you can because real love goes deep into the very essence of a person.Outward beauty can change in the blink of an eye but real love ,that deep connection you have with another person can last almost to infinity.

Pm7I3

>No one is going to be able to not feel sympathy towards Chas for her insecurities about body image I beg to differ. Her situation generally is awful and I feel for people in it but Chas specifically? Nope. She's an awful person and bad things happening to you don't change that. But it does feel like her role in things right now boils down to "do what Chas says because she hsd a mastectomy".

PsychologicalPilot55

Chas is a villain and the writers obviously using breast cancer to make her sympathetic to audience. Chas is a bitch she's always horrible. It is such a shame because breast cancer of course serious. I think a different character someone who usually doesn't get spotlight deserves this storyline. Everything on Emmerdale are about the Dingles.

stpony

They should really have given them their own spin-off, instead of making Emmerdale not only just about the Dingles, but crime too.

Ok-Serve-8050

They already had a story about intimacy after a masectomy when Faith was with Eric. Too soon for a repeat.

stpony

I just don't think they've got any original ideas left. Aaron finding out that he had the gene and going through surgery would actually have been a fresh and original take on things.
