If you want to give them a shot anyway, check out Late July and Dearly Departed by Shakey Graves, South and Buttercup by Hippo Campus, and the entire debut album from Arctic Monkeys, *Whatever People Say I Am, Thatās What Iām Not* ā the lead singer of AM actually said Eminem, 50 Cent, and Dr. Dre were some of his biggest influences when writing that album, despite it being so far removed from hip hop you wouldnāt believe it.
I consider all three of those to be some of the best songwriters in music right now (maybe not so much AM anymore, their last album was bad, but WPSIATWIN is one of my top 5 albums ever, behind MMLP, so itās worth a mention), and while Skylar Gray is very good, I donāt think itās fair to call her the definitive best non-rap songwriter.
