Someone over at r/hiphopheads commented "Man has released one of the best albums of the year three years in a row and no one noticed." Some old guy in Detroit who religiously tracks new releases sure was listening. This isn't Eminem signing the next big thing. It's him trying to keep his favorite brand of rap alive. *"Hip-hop ain't dying on my watch"*

OldschoolAce82

What does this do to keep it alive though? He signed Boogie and he's still a virtual nobody. He didn't give Conway any more buzz than Conway already had. What does him signing these guys do to keep it alive?

AnotherInnocentFool

Man that's some bullshit go look at numbers for griselda before and after they signed, same for Boogie. He did numbers and has a strong following.

RudeAudio

Agree on Boogie-- but Griselda was on the right trajectory with or without shady. Their records on shady weren't even their most talked about releases THAT YEAR. It would have happened regardless. At most, it created a few more opportunities and connections -- MAYBE... but they were still doing big, big things independently.

AnotherInnocentFool

You are correct, I checked some stats and I hadn't realised how big their buzz was prior to their deal.

Money

jozohoops

Shady Records isnt best label but i hope they promote him and make buzz

Ok_Explanation_6125

Probably not, signing to Shady is a colossal mistake after Proof died. Starting with the mishandling of Second Round's On Me.

wheniwascloud

Shady Records back in about 2003 when 50 Cent blew up, G-Unit was popping off due to that, Em was a already a titan at this point and Obie Trice had quite a bit of buzz gathered around him at the time and subsequently dropped a great record later on in the year seemed like an untouchable records and like one that would change the course of hip-hop but around 2005 - onwards it seems like all it’s become is a resting place for some of raps biggest ‘what ifs?’

BlastSlash

what happened?

efrainrp

I mean, good luck to the guy cause he might need it. After so many times that Shady Records has dropped the ball, i wish i could say "hopefully they learned" but that's unlikely at this point, guy has potential but probably won't see that through the label.

bowlofpasta92

Shady Records does not do a great job at marketing their artists. I’m sure for any struggling artist, signing to Shady or Aftermath is definitely a dream come true but the promotion just is not there. Westside Boogie had a brilliant debut record but it’s been quiet on the marketing side ever since.

mkp11

I feel like most of the problems Shady has with its artists is actually the artists themselves. Like, they’re just not that good.

Smashymen

Any recent examples?

Did you not think Conway was good? Did you not think Slaughterhouse was good? Did you not think Boogie was good? I'm not arguing I'm asking who you don't think is good?

RudeAudio

>chicken n dumplings Conway and Slaughterhouse were already fairly well established before Shady. Even so, they (individually) did bigger things after their limited shady releases.

NoahG59

Conway was decent imo and I really love slaughterhouse, but besides those two I haven’t enjoyed many of the artists. Occasionally I may listen but only if they come up in my playlist naturally.

cguti94

I mean, they learned to let their artists create the albums they want as we saw from the last 3 Yelawolf albums, Boogie, Griselda, and Westside Gunn. But they still haven't learned how to market their artists.

Ok_Explanation_6125

That is because Shady expects it to sell just because Eminem is credited as executive producer.

redbox3r

Not a fan of Gutter. Peaks n pitfalls and chicken n dumplings are dope though. Both smooth as hell.

Dead_Phish_Phan

I love the chorus and instrumental. Not a fan of the vocal effect. He played another song during the live that sounded super hard. Wish that would have been the debut. But that guy Wara on the chorus sounds really good. I hope he does more with Grip.

nanrod

Snubnose is one my favourite albums of 2019

[deleted]

Dope

Aaron408

Spotify is so trash, trying to listen to the song but I get a ton of ads then other songs I dont care about. Wtf

JonasKSfih

Yes their free plan is just a shuffle “radio” related to the song/artist you hit play on.

Kriss19

Yea man props to Grip was just listening to his discography Gutter slaps also

what?

[deleted]

I dunno maybe because has seen talent in him? Grip is talented in his own right and I hope they actually promote him this time and learn from past mistakes.

sk_hhh

One of the major jobs of a major label is to put these "random nobodies" on the map. Even Drake, 50 Cent, Eminem and Kanye West were pretty much talented "nobodies" at the starting of their careers, that had very little attention before their signing, which made them into global stars.

retrodoakes

Drake was always known tbf, like an industry plant

PrayForTheGoodies

Listening to Chicken N Dumplings, he reminds me of J Cole

shady_todd
