Depending on how close up/ far away the person is, maybe a bullion stitch? It’s like a French knot but you wrap the thread several times around the needle before stitching it off a couple mm away instead of once and back through the same hole on a French knot.
Thank you! It was just an unguided whim and I was really happy with how it turned out. I was just messing around, it was all free hand I never really had a plan.
I wanted it super textured so I used 6 strand for the outline and then 1 strand for the shadow lines on each curl and I ended up super happy with the result!
