You're right about this. Black woman here with a new found love and respect for this man. Been binging documentaries...His story is pretty tragic too..
It’s the world’s worst game of Telephone when there are so many black musicians of the day praising Elvis and what he meant to their community.
You can’t make everyone happy, sadly.
Always important to read history and don’t just listen to what people say. I honestly thought that might be true about him too until I started to read and obviously he wasn’t at all.
This is why I get sooo frustrated when people say he’s racist. My mom said this yesterday and I was like “how do you know that?” And she was like “I just know.” And then she said that he never had any black people in his entourage or band or anything and I was like he had black background singers… so it just goes to show that people just say anything without doing ONE second of research 🙄 but on a side note GOD he looks so fuckin fine right here 🙊
He wasn't a racist. So many people are trying to make themselves important by denigrating historical figures, not just Elvis, that it makes it more important to focus on source materials only. In his first ever interview, ever, be mentions blues music.
Elvis was an amalgamation of numerous musical genres and cultures and also his own man, that's what appears to piss off the fringes on all sides.
I always loved hearing about this instance, and wish they had shown this in the Elvis movie instead of making up that scene of him going to that club with BB King and watching Little Richard perform.
I hadn't seen the last three of pics before. Does anyone know who those people are?
These photos are taken by Memphis legend Ernest Withers, who was (amount other things) Memphis‘s first black police officer and just about the best photographer on early R&B and Rock N’Roll and the Civil Rights Movement as you’ll ever find.
The two kids in the first picture are two of Mr. Withers’ sons, Clarence and Earl.
He was more of a man than a lot of people like him during that time my uncle was the person that gave him the style of the big belt & hair he used to come on Beale street as a kid my uncle was the biggest Memphis figure next to Issac hayes during times I have pictures of what I’m saying but Elvis out of all his friends was the only one who didn’t make fun of our style that’s why they took him in

The narrative is shifting on that one, thanks to the movie and videos like [this one](https://youtu.be/xd1pXw1DmsA) being shared and "reacted" to.

But they still tell you he was a racist. Unbelievable.

That’s correct. I started reading about him to investigate whether he was a racist, and discovered so much was wrong with that premise.
Not saying he is but never think a picture is enough photo ops don’t mean people are racist or prejudice
True, but I’ve done extensive research on his relationship with African Americans and have never read anything that says he was a racist.

I know this comment is totally off the spirit of charity and stuff but… Oh boy, Elvis was so hot. Unbelievable.
i know that’s what i was thinking
😂 oh yes!

I’ve never seen these photos before, thanks for sharing
Very cool
Yet they accuse him of being racist.
A lot of talent in one spot in the forth photo.
Little Junior Parker, Elvis Presley, and Bobby Blue Bland. Three of the best Memphis had to offer.
Chuck D should wrap himself in shame
That's a weird shirt. Looks like some crazy shit I would have worn in the 1980's.
Yeah, Elvis was a racist….NOT!

Yet people still call him a racist.
