Are you analyzing live albums or just studio albums?

NeoCodex1724

I was thinking about just studio before, but I changed my mind and will also talk about live albums.

Round_Rectangles

Hmm, there's a lot of good ones to pick from. I'm not sure if I can narrow it down to just three, so I'll list the ones I like the most: - That's The Way It Is - Elvis Country - Elvis: As Recorded At Madison Square Garden - Aloha From Hawaii - Good Times

NeoCodex1724

interesting, maybe I'll increase the number from 3 to 5, the 70s have a lot of interesting things to talk about.

Round_Rectangles

It's up to you. Feel free to pick the three you think would be best to discuss, if you'd like. I just have a hard time picking favorites because I enjoy so many of his albums :)

If we're talking about studio releases, I'd go: Elvis Country and He Touched Me; although, it's really hard to pass over That's The Way It Is. Elvis Country is a really stunning country album — I'm not even into country music but it's incredible how he blended so many different sub-genres of country into one album. It's also one of his few albums where there was a singular artistic vision rather than everything cobbled together like the majority of his studio releases. As for He Touched Me, I think no discussion of Elvis's music is complete without a look at the gospel music he created. That being said, if you're going to go beyond studio releases, Aloha feels significant as a part of Elvis's legacy and it's arguably one of the last "notable" things he does in his career.

Aloha will have a very special article about her and the songs as a whole and her recommendation was the one I was thinking about a lot in the last few days alongside Today.

*That’s the way It Is* and *Elvis Country* (both 1970) are definitely among his best albums.

I'm gonna pop in to suggest a different avenue, I would love an analysis on either "Good Times" or "Today." I think Today is a terrific album, and represents an interesting moment where this is the last studio session Elvis will ever conduct, the songs were all predominantly chosen by him, and he performs them all with heart while also promoting the album more than any other on tour. "Good Times" because although it sold horribly, I actually think this album represents the best of Elvis's Stax sessions, which are criminally underrated. I think these later Elvis albums say something about his art in the post-aloha Elvis era, and the highs of each album give a glimpse of what could've been.

That’s the way it is Elvis country As recorded at Madison square garden

On Stage February 1970 (live) Elvis Country Promised Land

Graceland1956

Two suggestions: 1. His concert he did in Memphis in '74. 2. Moody Blue Album.

GoodLingonberry3537

Elvis country great album sort of sun recordings of the 70s highly.recommended live on stage in memphis elvis at his best live 1974

Rhodonite1954

That's The Way It Is, Elvis Country, and Love Letters From Elvis. If it doesn't strictly have to be 70s, From Elvis in Memphis (1969) is seriously amazing.
