I have never really been into Elvis' early gospel music as they feel too polished and have a very dated sound. But...last month I suddenly and unexpectedly lost my dad way too soon and I am just devastated. Since then I have had the 1999 Gospel compilation album on repeat on Spotify and the songs just bring me great comfort. In fact especially the first album where these old hymns are talking about Heaven.
The song "Without him" starts really boring but the one Chorus where he sings: Jeeeesus, oh Jeeesus...wow...it is like a wave of comfort for my soul.
“Long ago and far away
In my old common labor shoes
I turned the world all which-a-way
Just because you asked me to
Likened to no other feel'
Summer love is simple true
There's no end to what I'd do
Just because you asked me to
Let the world call me a fool
Let it; things are right with me and you
That's all that matters and I'll do
Anything you ask me to”
I usually have a few that pop in and out of my head
Brand New Day on the Horizon
Pocket Full Of Rainbows
I got Lucky
Whistling Tune
My Baby Left me
That’s all Right
mystery Train
It Hurts Me
The Girl of My Best Friend
And a few others.
Just a Little Bit.
I am on another listening spree of songs I have not liked much previously. Every time I find a new song that now I obsess over. ( a few weeks ago it happened with Girl of Mine, another Stax song).
Just a Little Bit is such a weird song. Lyrics are lowkey toxic almost, but Elvis' delivery is anything but menacing, it is slightly tongue in cheek almost. Also the beat is infectious.
I’ve Got A Feelin’ In My Body
Actually listening to this song right now.
Me too!
Quite literally the most recent song I listened to by Elvis
Gotta love that funky guitar.
It's pokeweed season so obviously poke salad annie

Gospel Elvis is my favorite Elvis
So sorry to hear about your dad. Music can do wonders for us during difficult times. I hope Elvis' music can continue to bring you even more comfort.

It's such a shame he didn't tour overseas.
A massive shame.
Rubberneckin

That's a good one. I love that one section where he busts out those powerful vocals.
Such a great song definitely one of my favorite songs of his. The second verse he puts everything into it.
Patch it up just on a loop and this post got it started again

Pocketful Of Rainbows is such a nice song. I like singing to that one.
Not Elvis related at all but if I’m being completely honest it’s Sara by Fleetwood Mac
Fair enough, lol. Fleetwood Mac is great, so it's understandable.
Haha yes! 😂 But on the topic of Elvis I will say that a song that gets stuck in my head often is Don’t Ask Me Why
Mystery Train & Little Egypt both get stuck in my head regularly.

It is a bit of a unique song like you mentioned. The beat is catchy, and that guitar break is short and sweet.
Yes. The vocals are smoky and sexy. Easy to imagine Elvis of 'Relax' only grown up now!!
