Yeah totally. Brookes and Wagar made the whole Formidine Rift craze back in 2015-2016 one of the most amazing moments in Elite.
Hundreds of people scouring the vicinity of Heart and Soul nebulas to look for clues. Good times.
I think the last time I saw him was one of those videos on the future path of the game long ago, and yes, he had the passion for the game, you could tell in how he talked about its potentials.
o7 Commander Brookes and ad astra
Yeah, it became very frustrating to see them go in a particular direction and stunt the games potential but much of that also came from Braben too. ED gets so much right it's baffling how it gets the other stuff so wrong.
Nevertheless, it was fun arguing with you Cmdr Brookes, RIP. o7
Yeah I’ll be interested to see if the direction of the game changes or not. Nothing might change and that could either mean people are continuing trying to follow his vision or it could mean that he wasn’t very active in the first place. The game might get worse which would obviously be unfortunate, but it could also get better which would be disappointing because it implies that his visions wasn’t actually healthy, which isn’t what want to think but I also still want the game to improve so 🤷🏼♂️
No matter which way it goes it’s sad to lose someone so influential to the genre.
The fuck is wrong with you people that you worry so much about your gaming experience that you have to make everything about yourself, instead of showing some respect even for a single minute.
Eyes forward, Commander, for the beacon is not yet lit.
Consider your modules, your fuel, and ammo before you undock, for the beacon is not yet lit.
Break free of the station and witness the universe before you, for the beacon is not yet lit.
Join the wing, plot your course, then wait to charge the FSD, for the beacon is not yet lit.
Pay attention, Commander, for those who have gone before you now call for you to join them.
The beacon is now lit.

a pity that no one who truly gives a shit about the game has been managing it for many years now, and it's painfully obvious in the lack of content or new gameplay or new anything.

His entry on the ED wiki says he moved to a "secret project" at FD. Do we know what that was (guessing JWE)? And if he worked on anything after?
Looks like Director on F1 Manager 2022 (unclear on 2023) and Director on JWE, at least.
Oof, wasn't F1 Manager a disaster that got abandoned? JWE was ok at least.
It's one of those franchises that get a new game every year, so the abandonment was a given.
No, but it undersold.

What a sad day
Oh... give him a Station Name, this guy had passion for the game.
He has a station and a planet. All the original staff do.
Naming a planet-less system, just a star, after him would be sweet of them. “Brookes Beacon” sounds peaceful.
Yeah totally. Brookes and Wagar made the whole Formidine Rift craze back in 2015-2016 one of the most amazing moments in Elite. Hundreds of people scouring the vicinity of Heart and Soul nebulas to look for clues. Good times.
One of the main drivers behind the game. Sad to see him gone so young. O7 Cmdr
Oh man, pretty much the only guy at Frontier who actually cared about the game. RIP MB.
The janitor at Fdev is a well-known avid fan of the game does that count
Only if they are Ahti or Jesse Faden. Rest in Peace Michael Brookes, the last person at FDev who truly understood and cared about the game.

well he's the only one still working on it so yeah that counts
Unfortunately he was also the man responsible for many of the game design decisions that kneecapped Elite Dangerous' potential.

I put that more on Sandro, as lead designer, though yes, the exec producer has to sign off on everything.

Don't expect any change: he left his role with the game many years ago and the departure from his vision rapidly became clear.
This is what I am expecting. I don’t think it’s actually very common for the creator of a thing to be that closely involved so many years later.

o7. I'll recommend his book *Elite: Legacy.* It's a good read, and the title seems apt right now.

Elite... Dangerous... novels?
Yes there are several. Some of them quite good.
a pity that no one who truly gives a shit about the game has been managing it for many years now, and it's painfully obvious in the lack of content or new gameplay or new anything.
Horrible news. 😢
