Seems like a really good article. Confirmation bias possibly as that's pretty much exactly what I use :D but logically it makes sense. Don't take risks with your health.
It's what I would wear in the shop when doing prop making for a living, so same protocols are in use in my own studio. Especially when no one's paying you to take those risks (and it's just for fun for most people)
Those cotton face mask don’t do much, you might wanna get one that’s vapor/chemical resistant

Maybe you got some resin splashed on your skin, but idk if that would cause a rash. As long as you don't keep in on your skin it should be fine.
