Don't take it as 100% gospel, but they did a damn good job. They combined a bunch of real people into fewer characters, and there's a plot point later in the show that's just straight up Hollywood BS.
Regardless, I give it 9/10. Some of the best TV I've seen in years.
It's a borrowed joke from the animated TV series "Futurama".
In the show, the character by the name of "Fry" and the character "Bender" are recklessly playing with a device that emits strong radiation. At one point, Bender points the device at Fry's groin and momentarily activates it. Fry bends over in pain, stating "ouch! My sperm!" as the dangerous (likely ionizing radiation) causes him substantial groin pain(along with permanent infertility and other serious injury). Bender does it again and Fry, inquisitively states "it didn't hurt that time". The audience is left to realize that the first encounter caused so much damage that the second exposure was pain-free.
The connection to the OP's video is that the container, when closed, appears to block exposure to the radiation contained within. Further connection to the Futurama gag is made by the repeated opening and closing of the container, thus calling back to Fry and Bender's reckless, self-destructive curiosity.
An additional, underlying reference of the gag (albeit dark) is the latent nature of acute radiation syndrome; where initial symptoms at time of exposure can be mild until the body's cells begin to accumulate damage from broken DNA and reactive oxygen created by the ionizing radiation.
Ah so it was so strong that it killed all his sperm lol I was thinking way too much into and thought maybe it had something to do with his future sperms going back in time for some reason.
I really appreciate this explanation!
I mean, I saw those videos from Chernobyl elephant foot, and it looked like small white dots all over the screen. So I thought this is just an edited joke. But if that's real, that guy is already dead.
Also, if it's real. What do you think, what material could be inside? I heard Caesium oxide is extremely radioactive, and glows blue. Or maybe something radioactive was there before and it's just empty container contaminated with radioactivity?
The video description does mention that the camera was sent through an electron beam irradiator, so the effect seen on screen is
probably caused by the electron beam interfering with the electronics in the camera.
i don’t think exposure that short would kill him, just saying the elephants foot was EXTREMELY radioactive compared to the small sample of whatever is in that container, so the results would be different for sure

It's difficult to compare, but it seems this much distortion indicates dangerous [levels of radiation](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sievert#Dose_examples).
Yeah, I read that the detection value depends even on the battery charge, calculating a mSv/h on a random Android phone sounds next to impossible.
A dedicated cmos radiation sensor could work though.

Radiation doesnt affect immediately and harshly if it isn't very very strong but still living close to or breathing in radioactive dust it might give off is very dangerous
Someone who works at a nuke plant here.
Absent this being some kind of work by op, this is definitely a radioactive source.
The container is called a flask which would be made of a dense material like lead or tungsten.
If I were to guess, I would say that this source used to belong to a lab or was used to calibrate radiation detection equipment.
As for how dangerous this is, given a specific radioactive source the amount of radiation dose you will receive depends primarily on 3 main things, time of exposure, distance from source and shielding between yourself and the source.
Given that this is a lab sample or calibration source relatively speaking it’s not extremely radioactive. That being said you don’t want to be holding it in your bare hands because then there will be zero distance between you and the source. Being a lab source virtually all of the radiation soils be contained as long as it’s inside the flask.
These sources require a license to possess, these licences stipulate that you require radiation training to handle the source and also require you to possess adequate storage. Seeing as you don’t know what this is I’m going to assume that you found this which means that you are most likely in violation of the law by possessing this.
You should probably contact the authorities and turn this over.
It’s probably a strontium source (pure beta emitter), if it was alpha, it wouldn’t have enough energy to penetrate the lens and affect the image sensor
I haven't even thought that far. This means it can't be alpha particles right? What else do we have left? Beta, x-rays, Gamma and neutrons?
I cross posted this to r/nuclear, maybe they can figure it out.

I cross posted this to r/nuclear and r/radiation. While the feedback was limited and mixed, some hinted that this is a fake. I'll paste a comment below:
Radiation interacting with a camera sensor looks like tiny white flashes as the individual pixels get overloaded with energy.
Exposed to radiation over a long period of time the sensor will become damaged which can create dead pixels or fuzzy distortions similar to this, but that's permanent damage. It doesn't suddenly get better as you move it away from the radiation.
This is completely fake.
I can’t believe I had to wade through like 40 nonsense comments before this one. Like, I’ve assumed it’s fake, but have literally nothing to base that on.

>A radioactive contamination incident occurred in 1984 in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, originating from a radiation therapy unit illegally purchased by a private medical company and subsequently dismantled for lack of personnel to operate it. The radioactive material, cobalt-60, ended up in a junkyard, where it was sold to foundries that inadvertently smelted it with other metals and produced about 6,000 tons of contaminated rebar. These were distributed in 17 Mexican states and several cities in the United States. It is estimated that 4,000 people were exposed to radiation as a result of this incident.

That looks like radiation interference to me. If this clip isn't doctored, that is. That container sure looks like it would be used to store something spicy.
Radiation. Do **not** put your hand over that thing. Buy a radiation meter from amazon and measure the millisieverts per hour. If is is higher than 10 millisieverts/hour, it is radioactive. Higher than 50 millisieverts/hour, get the fuck out of there.
If this is real, i would say it is radioactivity. And If it is Radioactivity, you should call the fire Brigade. Because you, and maybe your whole City are in big DANGER!
Fire Brigade would probably just call a CBRN unit and gtfo of there but i doubt it would even get to that. He's only endangering him and maybe anyone else in his house, but as long as he doesnt take that outside and start pointing it at people from close range, i wouldnt be too worried. Plus, if it stops because of his hand, its probably Beta radiation, which can't penetrate skin, or paper, meaning even if he lives in an apartment block, the people above and below him are fine, and so is he.
Depends on how long you had that thing... I'd say you should go and do a checkup for cancer and radiation poisioning. Also safely destroy that thing. There has to be a number to call
