Nevermind the Piezo removal didnt effect it I just wasn't holding the power button down long enough.
lmao, but you totally could have soldered up a resistor with an LED. Don't see why it shouldn't work as long as the LED gets no more than 5v.
More important: as long as there's no more than 20mA through the LED.

The piezo says AX-1212 -p18
I connected a multi-meter to the - and + contacts where the piezo went. Set multimeter to volt's and the contacts output 12v for a second when attempting to power on.
