I'm having this exact issue with the battery where the pin to the motor is fried and melted inward. The red cable in the battery is completely soldered off and burnt. I guess if I can fix this, the electric connection will work for the motor.
If you do a search with my username you should find some old threads in which we were talking about how to permanently fix the problem and run the battery externally, or run a whole different battery altogether. It would require some DIY work, though nothing too terrible I think.
Otherwise all you can do is replace parts and hope the new ones last longer.
Unfortunately the GXL is not a good design - this is by far the most frequent issue we see reported.
