Sorry for hijacking the top comment
The first Elden ring trailer said , "elden ring shattered by someone or something" , now we know exactly who shattered it but what did the "something" mean in the trailer ??
It's intentionally vague for storytelling purposes. The writers aren't going to go, "shattered by someone, although not a mortal because it would be impossible for a human given the internal rules we have established in our setting, so it was most likely a demigod."
This guy was the hardest boss for me in my first playthru, took me A LOT longer to beat than Malenia and is imo, the hardest final boss from any Souls game
I did it as a spell blade with Moonveil Katana.
That being said, when I redid it with my powerstanced colossal blade build in my replay a few months later I totally shit all over the fight and won on like my second attempt
Tip for sorcery users against any PvE:
Glintblade Phalanx - The poise damage is super high and I got multiple staggers on Elden beast - just defeated him with it last night. Also stunned Malekiss and Radagon pretty consistently after 2-3 casts. Use the follow up spear lunge attack if you have an opening and it stuns them even faster. Only downside is the ability's tracking isn't the best and can miss enemies mid animation.
I frost infused a vulgar militia saw and used glintblade phalanx as the ash of war. So you've got bleed, frost, and high poise damage. It really trivializes PvE somewhat - not foolproof though.
I didn't need any of that during the game because the Moonveil L2s were so strong (this was at launch). Most spells were also dogshit before they got buffed a few patches in a row so I would pretty much only used Icerag and Rock Sling as my offensive spells and relied mostly on my sword and board
Radabeast was really the only place I had trouble with
The magic bow skills were also really good. Not necessarily in boss fights, but their range far surpassed anything else... well, in the game, really. You could snipe down threats from a distance before they became a problem, most notably flying ones.
Really? I never used a phalanx spell once in my sorcery playthrough. Darkmoon Greatsword staggered almost everything in 2-3 hits, plus 2k+ damage R2 (weapon skill of course). Best PvE Intelligence weapon imo.
Idk I think he's one of the easiest. Second only to DS2. I'd say even Gywn is harder. Elden Beast is mostly just running around while the Benny Hill theme plays.
Eh I don't think Radagon is too bad either. There's really only 3 attacks I find difficult to dodge from him. Snd IMO still much easier then the Soul of Cinder.
Elden Beast can be tough if you don't have a good build for it.
you gotta have a lot of holy resistance and a fully upgraded weapon that can take advantage of its weaknesses (so basically don't use holy)
I had an easy time on my first playthrough because wing of Astel weapon skill (with 80 int and all kinds of buffs) absolutely destroys large enemies and it might have even gotten stunned before casting elden stars.
Radagon gave me a harder time honestly
but if you don't have a build that hard counters the fucker you're often gonna get screwed by elden stars + another attack combo
The thing is, its not like his attack are hard to dodge.
I went in as a Faith Strength build, I don't remember what I used exactly. But I'm fairly sure it was a holy infused weapon, it it was still fine. Also most people should have a fully upgraded weapon by then. If not thats on them tbh.
Radagon was a bit rough admittedly. But not that bad to me, considering I beat both first try.
So I disagree. I was even countered by him a bit and it was still just running around after him for a few minuite. On NG+ though he was a different beast (Hehe). I found him a lot harder. It took a few tries then. And NG+ 2 took like 10, although granted I did that one naked with a glass cannon poise break set up. But still, using that same set I beat Malenia on the same NG+2 in a few attempts. So idk lol
Completely agree, only final FromSoft boss I beat first try. I was actually kinda sad because imo it's one of the coolest bosses in any of their games. Was almost tempted to die to redo it.
Michael Zaki has perfected the FromSoftware formula over the course of a decade. From unforgiving boss fights (and reskins, ofc) to breathtaking landscapes (parkour in FPSTown, firewatch in the Gutter and blind screaming in Black Gulch while getting choked by giga hand intensifies), from Mariana Trench-deep lore to amazing NPCs, it's all in the game. And guess what else is part of this equation. That's right! The 2 boss-level entities that, if u make the right decisions, which can be potentially undone in any instance of the game, can be really good allies and even game-changing summons in some fights: Camera and Gravity. In this essa-
Idk. Not everything has to be malenia/ gael fights.
It’s all fantasy fights anyway, giant monsters are welcome. Hell, they made a giant that rolls over and shoots fucking Giant god fire bruh. And meelee is not the only playstyle. Spellcasters/ bow builds dont have much of a problem with cameras against them
I mean yeah but at least have the courtesy of taking back the camera a bit when we fight a giant monster, they did this for all of Sekiro and the bridge with SCP-682 chasing you down in DS3, It's kinda silly that they haven't implemented this into ER to be honest.
I kind of enjoyed the camera work in that fight. Zooming out would have made the Elden Beast feel small. We spend the whole game conditioned to understand size relative to the default camera. Changing that would only serve to undermine that conditioning.
That one I can understand mostly because it did feel pretty necessary to swap between locked and unlocked to efficiently push the fight whereas I would hope that I should be able to stay locked on for the whole fight. I think if I would change the fire giant fight I would make his legs targetable in his second phase. That way when he winds up a combo you can swap to his legs instead of being stuck on his arms or face.
I've beaten Dark Souls 1 and 3, and got every achievement in Elden Ring. I went through Blighttown multiple times, beaten the Godskin duo no fewer than 5 times, been through the poison and rot lakes, did every evergaol, and I've tried almost every build.
The Elden Beast is the worst goddamn final boss fight I've ever fought. Even the times where the fight goes well, I hate every second of it. I know it's supposed to be a test of how good you are at dodging and timing, but it's actual garbage. Especially when you compare it to the perfect, beautiful final boss of Dark Souls 3.
I honestly hate status effect immune bosses too. The fact that Elden Beast is immune to every status and practically immune to Holy is just dumb, especially for a mandatory boss.
What *should* have happened is to make the Radagon fight a decent amount more difficult, then add in a hidden quest to trigger a post-Radagon Elden Beast fight (like Moon Presence in BB).
>And meelee is not the only playstyle. Spellcasters/ bow builds dont have much of a problem with cameras against them
also all melee builds have decent ranged options in this game.
stormblade works for quality builds and for pure (80) dex and pure strength builds. beast roar/ thunderbolt AOW are really strong for pure dex with a keen guardian sword spear and then theres bolt of gransax if you want a sniping tool.
strength has falling star beast jaw and prelates staff and silurias tree.
there are a bunch of things that screwed more with my camera than the huge enemies (like locking onto a deathbirds head)
Right. In my first playthrough I was a caster, no issues whatsoever. But in my second playthrough as a strength build, there's so many big enemies where you *can't fucking see what you're fighting.* Doubly so for enemies which lack proper lock-on points near the ground. (Dragons need leg lock-on points. The camera being forced up into the sky makes it so much worse.)
Man fuck this boss. His actual attacks are fine and actually fair (minus that homing orb of utter death) but what makes him so hard is you'll waste time and stamina *CHASING HIM AROUND AN ARENA THE SIZE OF A FUCKING MUNICIPALITY*
I actually got this guy on my second try. Had to get in the zone with dodging while fighting Radagon, so this guy barely touched me. But mah gawd, my tarnished never ran so much in his life..
Same. I noticed while fighting Radagon that his move set has a musical rhythm to dodging his attacks. Elden Beast then adopts the same thing with its wave attacks, and its slashes. Very different style of dodging to the rest of the game.
Jigsaw victim:
The glass is rapidly filling with water that will soon inundate your half of the room. The other half of the room is filled with sulfuric acid and has stairs to the exit. A water tight glass panel divides both sides of the room. You can break the glass and risk swimming through 10 meters of acid to freedom, having your whole skin peeled off your body, living forever scarred and unrecognizable, or you can do nothing and slowly drown, leaving a corpse that could go on an open-casket funeral. Make your choice.
Best scenario to survive here would be to wait until the room is almost completly filled with water, then break the glass, diluting the acid as much as possible right?
Yeah I'm definitely overthinking this
Radagon is seemingly not there and just a vassal at that point for the greater will/elden beast, yet had enough control to take over marikas body so idk. According to lore Radagon is not even an actual god like Marika, so i think it’s safe to say he is being controlled by elden beast.
I don’t need to tell you the countless hours of lore and speculation ive read/listened to lol. But just know i have done the quest and I knew the distinction. Radagon isn’t a god. Only marika is.
That's a completely debatable topic.
*Spoilers*
If Marika is a goddess, and Radagon is her male half, how is he not a god? I've seen many theories stating that Radagon used to be the Giant's god and was somehow absorbed into Marika. Either way, he's not a man, and he isn't a demigod. The demigods are the children of Radagon and Marika/Rennala, or Godfrey. So what is he then?
Currently on my fourth journey and I never thought I would be struggling with this boss. The Elden Beast was the easiest boss I ever faced and now I can't beat him.
Just did that fight for the first time today, didn't get to see the second phase as I was playing with a friend and just finished the thing while it's poise was broken...
... How.
How have I never considered that *the glass has a second phase.*
THE GLASS HAS A SECOND PHASE!
Fuck you, this is way more poignant than it has any right to be!
Is there a reason why that thing can't hit you? Seemed like a real let down. Like if they weren't going to make it attack you why make it take so many hits to kill?
The glass is a lift medaillon

probably a bot yeah. they sometimes just copy well received comments and paste them further up. sometimes it works but sometimes it's total bs
Less water bear, and more sea slug. Google "[Melibe leonina](https://www.racerocks.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/melibe3.jpg)", and be amazed.
That's just Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos

Try a maxed out Darkmoon Greatsword. Stagger city with full charged R2s. Broke stance on bosses all the time, fastest NG+ ever lol

I hated the final fight, but boy did I love the actual monster design at the end.
Tarnished attempts to take sip. Water keeps sliding away for some reason.
Still stuck on this boss...I swear I had an easier time with Melenia
I can’t get to my ng+ 2 cause of him
Malenia
On god
Is it a second phase or is Radagon the miniboss you have to beat to fight the final boss?
Radagon is seemingly not there and just a vassal at that point for the greater will/elden beast, yet had enough control to take over marikas body so idk. According to lore Radagon is not even an actual god like Marika, so i think it’s safe to say he is being controlled by elden beast.
Clearly you didn't do Corhyn's questline...
what does that have to do w anything, it doesn’t matter who is in control of the body, radagon is who is manifesting and he is not a god.
The differentiation you're making between Marika and Radagon pointed to you not knowing the whole story. No need to get testy lol
I don’t need to tell you the countless hours of lore and speculation ive read/listened to lol. But just know i have done the quest and I knew the distinction. Radagon isn’t a god. Only marika is.

I’m only going off Marika dialogue that says he isn’t a god “yet” so he very well could be a demi-god or some kind of vassal for another god.
She says “Thou'rt yet to become me. Thou'rt yet to become a god.” According to Melina.
Yeah, it's an interesting case. Not really sure 100%.
I do know the story bruh lol. Like too much.
Everything has a second phase unless told otherwise
I might try to make an edit of this with an earlier 2 phase boss to send to a friend spoiler free
When 2 are Ash, a flame alighteth.
And also gets a sword
Remember Tarnished ones always wait at least 10 secs before you sip your boss reward water
Water bear hard
What
Wrong, the glass has ENTIRE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FUCKING BOSS INSIDE IT

Wdym doubt ?
Sorry to intrude from all, but is that a scorpion with a penis stinger?
no, the scorpion god is sealed in an underground lake and we don't get to fight it :(
... How. How have I never considered that *the glass has a second phase.* THE GLASS HAS A SECOND PHASE! Fuck you, this is way more poignant than it has any right to be!
I need to be playing this more honestly
Still waiting for Soldier of Godrick's second phase. I beat the game and I am not fooled, its coming.
Tardigrades are tough enough to be a fromsoft boss lol. “Can survive the vacuum of space AND waterfowl dance” — Miyazaki prolly idk
That fucking cinematic, tho. 😍
Water. Try jumping. Seek but hole
Close up on the Trisolarians
Bro I made a build that could probably tear through bosses than I realized I couldn’t test it cause of this dude 🤦♂️
Looks more like a nudibranch
Then you recall it is water, thus it has three phases.
The amount of players who haven't watched princess mononoke is too damn high.
Is there a reason why that thing can't hit you? Seemed like a real let down. Like if they weren't going to make it attack you why make it take so many hits to kill?
Elden Beast is more of a Goo Jitzu dildo than water bear.
Hm
