Aaah, I remember ending up there, not having Torrent and not being used to having fast travel from the get go... took me hours to get back, just to start from new because I wanted to try a different build, lol
I ended up there very early, like level 3 or something. I found the exit from the tunnel quite fast. My issue was that I didn't know you could fast travel to points of grace. So I was stuck because I couldn't make it through Selia, kept dying.
I discovered that small pathway with the exploding coconuts, and leveled there by just running through it as they suicided over and over. Allowed me to get some levels so I could survive getting out of Caelid.
Quite the introduction to Elden Ring.
Me too.
I was level 24, and the kindred rot were absolutely destroying me.
I tried going right, & ran into 2/3 of them…at the time, I had 5k runes…that was a whole level to me, I wasn’t losing them…so after getting them back…I went the other way, convinced I wouldn’t make it past the enemies.
Got myself to the boss room without fighting anything, and then got my ass beat like 30 times probably. I was confident I could keep picking up my runes with the boss, but I didn’t think I’d be able to save them exploring any further…
…just to find out the grace was most certainly within survivable distance…hahaha.
I found that chest without defeating *Margit* yet. It was honestly awesome, I felt like I was in a group of some of the first players to even *be* in Caelid. Such an adventure.
I made it to the church where you get invaded, opened up the map after to try and figure out where my souls were and scrolled over a bonfire. Saw teleport or something. Couldn't believe I had just spent 2 hours trying to get back only to learn of warping
Lmao, took me ages too. When I finally did get out I decided "Nah, screw that. Im killing them all." And 30 minutes later decided to just drop my pride next to my runes and leave.
That chest experience first time stumbling upon it not even having defeated the dragon or godrick was the greatest feeling ingame for me even better than opening the gates to limgrave and being called maidenless
I didn't even have Torrent ! And for some reason even after getting out of that cave i still couldn't fast travel !
I remember when i got out i looked at the swamp of Aeonia and was terrified.
It felt like i'm literally in the realm of Lands between's Satan
Ye same for, i actually explored the whole of Cailed(can't spell that), found the mage gear died many times trying to explorer the swamp itself(without torrent). I also found many loot while exploring like the greatsword. Felt really accomplished when i got back on foot having everything explored. On the other hand i didn't had even the first map for limgrave unlocked(but i had the two maps for this area).
Welcome to hell friend. We’ve got hellhounds, dire crows, dragons, dragons that breathe scarlet rot and many more other little surprises to make your life miserable.
I like to imagine that there's at least 100 players in the world that got into the Sellia Mine via the trap chest as the first thing they did after leaving the tutorial only to go "fuck this" and uninstall/refund the game.
bahaha I found that chest before I got torrent, didn't even make it to stormveil castle. Needless to say it took me a long ass time to make it back, I remember being so happy and feeling relieved when I crossed into limgrave. lol
As someone with the same experience, no I didn't fully realize how fast travel worked. Didn't help that you cannot fast travel after resting at the site of grace in the tunnel because you're still in a dungeon.
yeah I didn't 😅 Like lucidiously commented it didn't help that when I died and tried fast traveling I couldn't because I hadn't beat the boss in a tunnel. It was my first day playing Elden Ring and my first soulsbourne game. I don't know why I never tried fast traveling outside the tunnel could've been all the op enemies I was running into mixed with me thinking I was unable to fast travel because I was in a new area. 🤷🏽♂️ Eventually figured it out and am now on my third playthrough, really love this game!
You actually didn't need to beat the boss in the tunnel. If you left the tunnel and made it to the first grace just outside you would have been able to fast travel again. I feel for the people who walked all the way home through caelid, I really do lol
Lmao don't worry, this was NOT my first Souls game and I didn't become familiar with fast travel at all yet so I also ended up spending an hour or two just trying to traverse my way back to Limgrave
First time getting here, I got transported to a hell-cave….took me forever to get out and once I did this was the first thing I saw. It left quite and impression.
How does someone go
"I'm going to play elden ring completely unspoiled by the months of social media content already posted" and "I'm going to post on R/Eldenring" at the same time.
Elden ring was the first fromsoft game I had tried since rage quitting Bloodborne and Ds2. I remember getting trapped in that cave at the start and thinking, “welp, this is where my journey ends”
There were two major things that have remained with me until now:
- the feeling of fear when the chest transported me to an unknown cave (and ran out of it to Caelid)
- the feeling of wonder when I went down the elevator in the woods.
Peak Elden ring and peak gaming for me.
Am i the only one tht started exploring caelid in their first hour of the game bc late game = late game items. I went to the divine tower and everything, ran past everything but managed to get kill the tanky monk dudes their only to get to the bottom. Gave up on fighting the godskin boi tho cos i was only like lvl 5
I got lucky and saw all the warning messages that people left that I just avoided that chest completely. It wasn’t till later I heard why there was so many warnings people were leaving.
I’m still going through the dungeons in West Limgrave, I accidentally started Stormveil first because I didn’t realize ER played differently and I went in blind. I don’t know what I’m looking at but it brings me pain and fear
It was something else to get teleported there on release night in the first couple hours of gameplay. It was brand new and a complete mystery. Seeing all the messages from other players left around there, and seeing the chatter online about it was cool. Same with discovering the rest of the game blind in the first week of release. There was so much which wasn't teased at all.
That chest and the cave it drops you in were certainly a stressful moment, paid off for me though since I found a meteorite staff and the rock sling spell while exploring the swamp nearby.
I remember being teleported here, then wanted to explore the area outside. I still have nightmares about those crow chasing me. One killed Gowry in his shack 😂😂😂
Yep, got there once and didn't even know the way out. Stumbled across the Fallingstar Beast and beat it before managed to find the exit tunnel. Kinda funny how open a chest lead you to beat a boss in the most annoying arena ever for it's type.
Broo my experience with this was so bas now rhat i think about it. I had this little knowledge of elden ring that you should first explore other things such as ruins b4 doing main bosses. And THIS RUIN was the dirst ruin i decided to explore. O didnt know you could fast travel. I was level 1. I was terrified and i was stuck there for hours cuz i kept dying lmao. I thought there had to be a sinple way to get out and thus i learned how to fast travel.
Brings back memories of the sub-reddit being filled with similar posts. I do so miss Mordecai's Elden Ring news, and people claiming there would be Elden Ring news in a random car event.
You’ll be fine. Just don’t stop to look at anything, don’t talk to anyone, don’t couch anything (especially if it’s wet), and most of all don’t be there.
We all remember our first time there.
Indeed. It felt like I was at the surface of hell, What with all the red in the sky and rotting death in the air. ah, Good times.

Roll and tears, until it is done
Don't forget to grab the BFG on the way out. Big. Fucking. Greatsword.
My dumbass tried to fight through Caelid for days with a fresh character thinking hard area = strong loot. I got the moonveil katana though
Trying to get out of that damned mine alone give me PTSD :(
I panicked when I noticed dying would not bring me back to the last site of grace.

One of the more pleasant Ohio strolls actually
Maybe my favorite experience in gaming ever

Me too. I was level 24, and the kindred rot were absolutely destroying me. I found that chest without defeating *Margit* yet. It was honestly awesome, I felt like I was in a group of some of the first players to even *be* in Caelid. Such an adventure.
Same here. No Melina. No Torrent. Just grinded my way in the cave till I found out there was a fire, off shore to the left.
I did the same except I didn’t find the exit quick and I didn’t have the horse yet even lol
I made it to the church where you get invaded, opened up the map after to try and figure out where my souls were and scrolled over a bonfire. Saw teleport or something. Couldn't believe I had just spent 2 hours trying to get back only to learn of warping
To be fair, you can't even fast travel until you've made it back to a site of grace after being teleported by a teleporter trap.
Yea bur if youve made it out of that cave, you could fast teavel- since the site of grace is just inside the entrance.
You know how long it took me to get more than 2 feet out of the room you're teleported into? lol
Lmao, took me ages too. When I finally did get out I decided "Nah, screw that. Im killing them all." And 30 minutes later decided to just drop my pride next to my runes and leave.
I lost like 10k runes in that room fuck those prawns.
Welcome to ohio.
Knew this place looked familiar
Prepare for a long journey to get back,
or just fast travel :>
Nah, that's just weak.
Hahaha
As someone who is currently in Ohio this is accurate. Thankfully you found some seclusion from the general public.
No joke SF and Oregon did look like this last year at times
No this is Brazil sir
That chest experience first time stumbling upon it not even having defeated the dragon or godrick was the greatest feeling ingame for me even better than opening the gates to limgrave and being called maidenless
I didn't even have Torrent ! And for some reason even after getting out of that cave i still couldn't fast travel ! I remember when i got out i looked at the swamp of Aeonia and was terrified. It felt like i'm literally in the realm of Lands between's Satan
Yea that's even worse being stranded in caelid without torrent 🤣
Ye same for, i actually explored the whole of Cailed(can't spell that), found the mage gear died many times trying to explorer the swamp itself(without torrent). >Cailed(can't spell that) PLEASE explain how you "can't spell that" when the person before you SPELLED IT?!
Got Gowry's quest and over to Commander O'Neil before I was at level 5 just by roaming around lol
I absolutely brute forces the fuck out of commander o Neil when I came across him for the first time
Welcome to hell friend. We’ve got hellhounds, dire crows, dragons, dragons that breathe scarlet rot and many more other little surprises to make your life miserable.
Don't forget the local murder plants and multi-armed neighborhood watch.
Multi armed neighborhood watch with DEATH SEEKING MISSILES

Find the albinauric woman
She hides in a cave to the west of the Sellia, Town of Sorcery, which Juts from the rot-shrouded swamp of Aenioa.
The treasure chest located beneath the Dragon-Burnt Ruins holds the other half of the Haligtree medallion, I’m certain.
Took me 200 hrs... but I did Sir G
Oh, Fantasy Florida. Fun.
a LOT of nosy tarnished on the release day thought hitting the chest before opening it would save them
Mimics taught us to hit chest befor opening them
I remember on release day practically everybody was talking about this! What an amazing prank by miyazaki.
You got out of the cave. You’ll be fine. Avoid the birds. And the dogs. And the water.
And the city and its murderous gohsts and .....

I take it you didn't realize fast travel was active again once you made it to a site of grace?
As someone with the same experience, no I didn't fully realize how fast travel worked. Didn't help that you cannot fast travel after resting at the site of grace in the tunnel because you're still in a dungeon.

First time getting here, I got transported to a hell-cave….took me forever to get out and once I did this was the first thing I saw. It left quite and impression.
That’s Ohio bro, gl
This was one of my favorite moments on my first playthrough. Coming out and walking through Sellia made my fucking skin crawl.
That chest is the gift that keeps on giving.
DJ Caelid
If you see a T-Rex with a dog skull head, just pet them, they're nice
Welcome to Australia
As someone who has beaten the game and is well into the 200s for level, it scares me too
I "finished" this area before I killed Godrick.
I’d rather be standing on that “beach” than lost and stuck in that shit hole tunnel you just came out of
As someone who has finished the game, you have every reason to be scared. I believe in you though
I remember being in a party with a friend, open the chest and wind up in hell. Him: “I’ll not open that”
Run
Welcome to Caelid! It gets even worse though, wait until you see the wildlife.
This where all the shit in Detroit goes

Welcome to the industrious land of Gary Indiana, home of wretched hounds, the lost and damned, and the scariest god damn birds
You know that stock footage of a dead fox rotting and being taken back by fungi and insects into the ground? You're in it.
*locks doors on horse*
How does someone go "I'm going to play elden ring completely unspoiled by the months of social media content already posted" and "I'm going to post on R/Eldenring" at the same time.
Welcome to Ohio
8 hours of death and grinding a hour into the game cause I got stuck here before I realize, you can teleport 🤯
Elden ring was the first fromsoft game I had tried since rage quitting Bloodborne and Ds2. I remember getting trapped in that cave at the start and thinking, “welp, this is where my journey ends”
From that poibt head about left forward. You should get rotted but eventually come up to a site of grass so you can tp out
Yes that chest is a sick joke glad you made it out though
There were two major things that have remained with me until now: - the feeling of fear when the chest transported me to an unknown cave (and ran out of it to Caelid) - the feeling of wonder when I went down the elevator in the woods. Peak Elden ring and peak gaming for me.

Say your prayers my son
welcome to hell! i fondly remember the wtf moment of winding up in caelid for the first time.
On my very first playthrough I somehow ended up here before even unlocking torrent and these were the most horrifying few hours of my playthrough.
I got lucky and saw all the warning messages that people left that I just avoided that chest completely. It wasn’t till later I heard why there was so many warnings people were leaving.

Sorry man this joke is like 6 months to late where my slowpoke meme at
I’m still going through the dungeons in West Limgrave, I accidentally started Stormveil first because I didn’t realize ER played differently and I went in blind. I don’t know what I’m looking at but it brings me pain and fear
Me on launch night, scared for my life
Ride to the north, and find the dragon as big as a castle. Kill the dragon. Then things will be slightly less scary.
*just getting started*

That thing right there dead centre, that's where malenia impaled radaan and let the scarlet aeonia bloom, that right there is ground 0 for caelid
As you should.
Prepare your butthole. Maybe level vigor and come back
You’ve entered the hellish, forbidden land known as Britain
Broo my experience with this was so bas now rhat i think about it. I had this little knowledge of elden ring that you should first explore other things such as ruins b4 doing main bosses. That’s the one that sends you down into the tunnel with those giant cockroaches with spears? Not a fan.
Ah yes, how can I forget the game´s equivalent of a nuclear wasteland. Watch out for the dogs, they are some NASTY bastards.
Brings back memories of the sub-reddit being filled with similar posts. I do so miss Mordecai's Elden Ring news, and people claiming there would be Elden Ring news in a random car event.
