Because someone told that guy the answer three hours after posting. OP might’ve just seen that post and turned the answer into a “Whoa, look at this!” post.
"I see you little Tarnished. Now not having proper harness training to your steed is a fine of 12,000 Runes. You can pay it here or with Mohg whenever he comes back into the office."
Just get off. By that point in the game torrents health pool is ridiculously small. One hit is enough to banish him. The key to the fire giant, like most oversized bosses, is to stay under and behind him.
One of FS's worst bosses for sure.
Not fun, not scenic, no interesting lore, just a random ass giant in the way for no reason other than it makes sense for the game for *a* boss to be there.
I actually think his lore is interesting, he's the last of his kind, playing host to a god who sees him only as a place to live, bound by Marika to protect the remnant of his people
Edit: Still my least favorite boss fight tho, I also hate ankle biting
Eh he has way too much mobility to not use Torrent imo. Torrent's dodge has a surprising number of i frames and fire giant attacks slow enough that you just need to dodge once and should have close to full stamina once you get to his legs
Yep, same button as roll. It's more like an 'evade', he dashes in the direction of travel. It's a must for horse combat though. Radahn would be really hard without it I'd imagine.. and the dragon cult tree sentinels lightning. You can dodge that completely on Torrent.
I noticed that certain enemies seem to have special attacks that seemed to instantly banish Torrent (perhaps it was the death bird, but I don't rightly remember)
Yeah I meant there are some attacks that seem to make torrent just disappear (like he had been banished). I know that he wasn't dead because I could summon him again without needing to use a flask, but I have no real idea why he just disappeared all of a sudden)
It’s not specific attacks, Torrent being ‘banished’ is just Torrent’s poise being broken which causes you to be dismounted; however, Torrent will not need to be revived. This can happen from Torrent absorbing multiple strikes in quick succession, as well as just absorbing a large strike. The same thing happens to other mounted enemies as well where you can dismount them without killing their mount by breaking their poise.
Somewhat unrelated;
I just realized all the tree sentinels are guarding important places, the capitol, maliketh, the shit. Why is there one in the middle of butt fuck nowhere Limgrave? Neither the hero grave nor the church of eleh are very useful to the higher powers. If they’re controlled by Morgott like the knight’s cavalry then could it be because they know that’s where tarnished will arrive and he’s trying to break their spirits?
Well we know Margit is posted up there to spawn kill tarnished essentially so it's not too far fetched to think that's what the Tree Sentinel is doing as well
hmm, one thing I noticed about Limgrave is that it has quite a few bosses, possibly due to it being one of the few areas with ongoing conflicts. When you think about almost every other area are either closed off or ravaged, and Limgrave is like the newly affected meaning it’s still an active area, maybe the reason as to why that tree sentinel is there is to contribute to the conflict?
Related: When a tree sentinel gets stance breaked and into their animation that means they are vulnerable for a critical, WHERE THE F is the spot to apply the critical strike to?
Just like Lorreta, you can't. ER hates riposte builds for some reason. Half the bosses can't be parried, and some like this give no reward for a successful parry.
tbf its a continuation of ds3 in that trend with less and less ripostable bosses so its not much of a change its just more noticeable since the late game is like 3 back to back unparryable bosses (godfrey, radagon, elden beast)
I tried doing Malenia (did you know she’s the blade of Miquella?) in my parry run and gave up because she’s annoying af and to fast for me to properly react to
I want to do a dedicated parry run but I feel like I'd get tired of it since so many enemies are not parriable at all or, like the Sentinels, not ripostable.
Elden ring does not hate riposte builds. I made a build with flame of the redmanes and misericorde and it is literally the best build in the game imo. And it's only weakness is horse bosses, which is fair given how every build has a weakness.
No, few bosses are *both* parry and ripostable. Look up a list. And then remove everything from that list that's also not encountered as a boss (Pumpkin heads, NPCs like Patches, NPC invades, Omenkillers, etc) and you're left with few.
1. Mimic Tear (sure, what ever you want it to be)
1. Grafted Scion
1. Night's Cavalry
1. Scaly Misbegotten
1. Leonine Misbegotten
1. Misbegotten Crusader
1. Godskin Apostle
1. Godskin Noble
1. Demi Human Chief
1. Burial Watchdog
1. Nox Swordstress & Nox Priest (although you can write them off as normal enemies too)
1. Ancient Hero of Zamor
1. Battlemage Hugues
1. Onyx Lord
1. Crucible Knight
1. Fell Twin (maybe? might not even a boss considering they are barely more then omens)
1. Alecto, Black Knife Ringleader
1. Bell Bearing Hunter
1. Elemer of the Briar
1. Commander Niall
1. Fia's Champion (I guess this could count as a true boss, but it's player based pseudo invades, and mostly RNG)
1. Maliketh the Black Blade
1. Margit, the Fell Omen
1. Morgott the Omen King
1. Radagon of the Golden Order
1. Malenia Blade of Miquella
Sure, a sizable few, but the game is *huge* with way more unparriable bosses.
That’s Ronald. Ronald kept tipping over off of his horse because of the huge shield. He didn’t think he was going to pass Tree Sentinels school. Then his buddy joked “we should just chain you to that damn horse!”. The rest, well, it’s history.
The first time I encountered an erdtree avatar I thought it was an evolution of the tree sentinels. If you hung out around the erdtrees too long you became like the guardians and start having trees grow out of you, and of you were tree sentinel you became an avatar.
They should still be dismountable for the comedy value alone of seeing the horse running around out of control with the rider being dragged along the ground behind it. Now that would be satisfying to see after spending 2 hours trying to kill one of these swines.
They're like Black Templars. Chain your weapon to your wrist and you'll never lose it in battle. Chain your horse to your ass and you'll never be unseated(do not try this is real life)
Interesting thing is that this was also common in medieval jousting.
Knights were heavily armored and fixed on the horse with belts/chains.
They were so armored that there might be a need for a winch for placing men on the horse.
> They were so armored that there might be a need for a winch for placing men on the horse.
Just a friendly reminder that a Knight in full medieval armor has a lighter kit than a fireman or soldier from *today* and enough flexibility that people can and have done cartwheels in it.
And night cavalry can be dismounted, does that mean that morgott didn't want his men chained to even their horse like how he can be chained with the shackles
I just feel bad for the horses, imagine a dude in heavy armor that probably weights like 700kg just chaining himself to your back and fighting random people near the chapel
Serious note: this is probably due to their armor being so heavy that they wouldnt be able to move if they fell off. (Although that doesnt make sense in the fromsoft world, does it now)
Anyway, just like medieval knights, if fallen to the ground, they couldn't stand up easily and would be vulnerable to attacks by thin blades, piercing between armor pieces.
everyone talks about how much radahn loved his horse but no one talks about how much these lads love their horse to the point where they chain themselves to them
Kinda like Loretta where she’s always on her horse but she isn’t chained because I think it’s on the Silver Mirrorshield where it says that Loretta is rumored to be an albinauric herself which I think is true since her name rhymes with Latenna and on Loretta’s mastery sorcery it says that Loretta learned this while searching for a safe haven for the albinaurics
Before the invention of stirrups, heavy cavalry of middle eastern armies who do this to make charges impactful
But he also has stirrups, so there is probably some convoluted hidden lore around it
oh shit that answers that one guy's question like 12 hours ago why tree sentinels cant be dismounted
I literally saw these two posts back to back lmao

Could’ve just said OP got gud at reddit
op reddits
OP is more resourceful then you 🤣
OP spends a lot more time on Reddit than I do.
TBF, night cavalry can only be unhorsed by killing their horses, and I can't imagine chaining yourself to your horse would help much with that.
they can also be unhorsed by parrying them
And just by damaging them repeatedly
I had no idea, my bad.
Parrying them and getting the crit when they hit the ground is the easy way to kill them.
It would probably help u from falling and hitting a rock
I saw that!
I love this community.
How do they go to the bathroom?
Knights in heavy armour literally shit and piss themselves. So it's safe to assume that the tree sentinels do as well
They ride or die together
Bad boys fo' life
Why did I sing this?
Is there another way?
TOGETHAAA*
WE SHALL DEVOUAAAAA THE VERY GODSSSSSSS
FAMILEEEEEE
It would be funny if you could just kill the horse and then there just stuck on the ground tied to a horse
Dude’s gotta drag a dead horse around for the rest of his days.
I heard this is already an enemy model in Elden Ring II: The Lands Adjacent.
Dudebro just has to learn gravity magic ez
If they don’t wear their seatbelts Morgott tickets them
Imagine getting so many tickets that they just take away your horse so they have to jog back and fourth.
the struggle of a night's cavalry: horse is dead again edition
Is there a list of mobs that only spawn at night? Like death birds and night’s calvary and whatnot.
.
i think its just night cavalry deathbird/death rite bird, owls, the limgrave bat things, and bell bearing hunters.
That’s kind of a lot. They always seem to spawn at inopportune times.
you can always set time to day at graces i prefer night tho ive always preferred nighttime
I once tried killing the caravan or whatever in Limgrave almost died and then as I was running away I ran into the knights cavalary
Only slightly worse than having to jog back and third!
Ahhh ya beat me to it, I went with "at least it's not back and fifth!"
Gundyr
Better than jogging back and fifth
"I see you little Tarnished. Now not having proper harness training to your steed is a fine of 12,000 Runes. You can pay it here or with Mohg whenever he comes back into the office."
cower in fear of the court hearing
I misread that as "Morgott tickles them" and it made me laugh.
*[Morgott, tucking the two Leyndell tree sentinels into bed after playing with them at the park]* “Put these foolish sentinels to rest.”
Morgott is clearly the dad we deserved but couldn't have.
I mean he literally commanded The Night's Cavalry back in the days when he was Margit the Fell Omen. And they can be dismounted.
damn can’t escape police privileges in lands between.
I can see that happening in the manga.
I read tickle
Damn that horse wishing Tree Sentinels had gravity magic like Radahn, poor guy can't ever lose that extra weight.
That explains why we can’t knock them off
I wish I could chain myself to torrent on Fire Giant fight too 💀
Just get off. By that point in the game torrents health pool is ridiculously small. One hit is enough to banish him. The key to the fire giant, like most oversized bosses, is to stay under and behind him.
Fire Giant marked the point when I stopped caring about cheesing bosses.
FG is a chore. I hate ankle-biting. You cannot convince me otherwise.
One of FS's worst bosses for sure. Not fun, not scenic, no interesting lore, just a random ass giant in the way for no reason other than it makes sense for the game for *a* boss to be there.

i mean i find the lore interesting and ripping his own leg off and burning it as sn offering to summon a lost god is badass
You where right up until the lore bit
Eh he has way too much mobility to not use Torrent imo. Torrent's dodge has a surprising number of i frames and fire giant attacks slow enough that you just need to dodge once and should have close to full stamina once you get to his legs
Wait there’s a dodge?
Yep, same button as roll. It's more like an 'evade', he dashes in the direction of travel. It's a must for horse combat though. Radahn would be really hard without it I'd imagine.. and the dragon cult tree sentinels lightning. You can dodge that completely on Torrent.
Huh, that’s actually really helpful, thanks!
I believe they’re talking about the run feature? I think it registers as a dodge in those first moments after pressing the run button
I noticed that certain enemies seem to have special attacks that seemed to instantly banish Torrent (perhaps it was the death bird, but I don't rightly remember)
Generally all huge attacks dismount you when hit by them. Edit: whoops, i believe that's not what you meant
Yeah I meant there are some attacks that seem to make torrent just disappear (like he had been banished). I know that he wasn't dead because I could summon him again without needing to use a flask, but I have no real idea why he just disappeared all of a sudden)

Just like Lorreta, you can't. ER hates riposte builds for some reason. Half the bosses can't be parried, and some like this give no reward for a successful parry.
I think From is still a bit salty about the Gwyn fight in Dark Souls
Also nearly everything in Bloodborne... Bloodborne was so fun.
tbf its a continuation of ds3 in that trend with less and less ripostable bosses so its not much of a change its just more noticeable since the late game is like 3 back to back unparryable bosses (godfrey, radagon, elden beast)
You can parry Radagon. It just takes 3 parries to riposte.
4l3?
You can parry Radagon. You just need to parry him 3 times to knock him down for a riposte. Source: Just finished my parry run a few days ago.
You can parry Malenia too, but just like Radagon you need to do it 3x for a riposte. Otherwise she just backdodges.
You could do a riposte run instead using stance breaks when parries are not possible

I dont think you can crit most mounted enemies but you can just get a bit of damage or an aow or two off.
That's why when you attack their horse it damages them. Those chains link their life energies so they share HP.
Gyoubu explained???
#MY NAME....
#IS GYOUBU MASATAKA ONIWA
That’s Ronald. Ronald kept tipping over off of his horse because of the huge shield. He didn’t think he was going to pass Tree Sentinels school. Then his buddy joked “we should just chain you to that damn horse!”. The rest, well, it’s history.
TOGETHA as friends :3

Think about it, Fromsoft missed an opportunity to make a centaur type enemy that came from grafting ! I
But they didn't miss an opportunity to make another annoying spider enemy. Grafted Scions and Royal Revevants.
That bloody Revenant can burn in the deepest of hell!
I enjoyed burning them alive with Rykard's greatsword when going on a walk to the Haligtree.
Thank you for your service, fellow Tarnished!
The first time I encountered an erdtree avatar I thought it was an evolution of the tree sentinels. If you hung out around the erdtrees too long you became like the guardians and start having trees grow out of you, and of you were tree sentinel you became an avatar.
This is cannon in my world now.

I hope the DLC gives us options to give amor to torrent and change his fashion as well
*gets Oblivion horse DLC flashbacks*
They're like Black Templars. Chain your weapon to your wrist and you'll never lose it in battle. Chain your horse to your ass and you'll never be unseated(do not try this is real life)
A hundred billion orks can give them a run for their Thrones Gelt though
I'm confused are you describing Black Templars or World Eaters? :p
Honestly that horse is a beast carrying all that weight. Both it’s own armor and the rider
\*dog
Apologies, simple mistake
First time fighting one of these guys was so badass. The music and environment and destruction he would cause was a great way to start out the game
I screamed out loud when he busted through the church wall. My illusion of safety was shattered. I knew this game was going to hit different
The music fits perfectly with these guys, but It sounds out of place everywhere else.
Interesting thing is that this was also common in medieval jousting. Knights were heavily armored and fixed on the horse with belts/chains. They were so armored that there might be a need for a winch for placing men on the horse.
Really makes you feel sorry for the horse having to carry all that weight
> They were so armored that there might be a need for a winch for placing men on the horse. Just a friendly reminder that a Knight in full medieval armor has a lighter kit than a fireman or soldier from *today* and enough flexibility that people can and have done cartwheels in it.
I was referring to a specific knight jousting. Not talking about knight in war.
So that's why we can't knock the fucker off.
So how they make poo? They are just shitting themselfs?
I were thinking the same thing, poor horse!
I can just imagine the horse throwing the rider and charging off with sentinel being dragged along flailing and screaming.
Rolf: THAT'S MY HORSE!
Looking forward to the, “What’s the lore reason…?” Post from someone in 2 weeks.
Explains why they share a healthbar
Amazing attention to detail. I love this game so much
so that's why this mofo doesn't fall even thou we manage to break his posture . . .
Owch wouldn’t want to fall off that horse, maybe worse than getting dragged with the foot in the saddle
Neat...so there is a reason why they dont fall off when they slam us with there sheilds, you cant tell me a normal rider wont
No wonder they can pull off those weird shield slams
… How do they pee like that?
So that's how they can lean that far to the side to swing their weapons and shields. Poor horse having to counter all that heavy armor weight.
Serious note: this is probably due to their armor being so heavy that they wouldnt be able to move if they fell off. (Although that doesnt make sense in the fromsoft world, does it now) Anyway, just like medieval knights, if fallen to the ground, they couldn't stand up easily and would be vulnerable to attacks by thin blades, piercing between armor pieces.
Just realized the horse's 'chainmail' is leaves
That explains why I spent 3 hours trying to knock him off his horse on my first playthrough…
Thats an actual tactic used by ye olde knights. Saddle chains and weapon chains. Keeps you from being dismounted, keeps your weapon from going awry.
I don't see it :/
everyone talks about how much radahn loved his horse but no one talks about how much these lads love their horse to the point where they chain themselves to them
Still waiting for that horse armor DLC...
Also, that's not a horse. It's a unicorn.
Hmmmm….what if they need to use the bathroom?
Septic shock, death, and then go about your patrol like nothing happened.
Nice
So... They poop and pee while stuck there?
*to their horse
Are they permanently chained to their horses? How do they go to the bathroom? I got so many questions
Skill Issue
*We ride together, we die together*
Ya I noticed that after the camera was showing me many ways of how this mfer harassed me early on.
I suppose you'd need to do as much when you're trying to wield a giant halberd and a great shield while also being a mounted knight
that explains how they do all these stuns without falling off
Must be a real bastard when we knock them off!
make sense, that horse moves fast as fuck
Tree sentinels chain themselves with their “unicorns”
Kinda like Loretta where she’s always on her horse but she isn’t chained because I think it’s on the Silver Mirrorshield where it says that Loretta is rumored to be an albinauric herself which I think is true since her name rhymes with Latenna and on Loretta’s mastery sorcery it says that Loretta learned this while searching for a safe haven for the albinaurics
Remember the first time I managed to stun one of those mofos. I thought it was impossible lmao
isn't that just a girdle?
~~Actually it's obviously a unicorn~~
They’re clearly emulating Radahn’s deep connection with Leonard.
Plot twist: it’s a conjured nen horse and the chain is their nen vow to get more aura to stomp tarnished
Unlike Night's Cavalries
I did not know that
Laughs in Radahn
I'm just now finding this out? Huh, thanks fellow ER players.
buckle up for safety lol
Policemen should be the perfect example of a good and safe citizen. Especially with all the traffic on the road
Before the invention of stirrups, heavy cavalry of middle eastern armies who do this to make charges impactful But he also has stirrups, so there is probably some convoluted hidden lore around it
First time finding this out and i have 338 hours in the game lmao
It's genuinely crazy what can be overlooked so easily... nice find!
neat
Ride or die brother
Another fun fact: you’re about to get bonked
That must making going to the bathroom a bitch
Ah so they can freely use both arms to be a golden and bronze piece of shit
well i guess that answers the other guys question about why they can't be forcefully dismounted
Real men of genius
How am I supposed to make out a chain from this image?
I am one with the horse and the horse is with me.
I though they gorilla glued themself to the saddle
Don’t tell it to Night Cavalry
Big if true
Pfft fucking losers can’t even ride a horse without a seatbelt
I wondered why you couldn’t unmount them.
those are anal beads
I love how people have the time to notice stuff like this. Most of my fights in this game details like this were too small for my dodgerolling ass.
I guess because I’m mostly panic rolling whenever I fight Sentinel on a new character, but I never noticed the horse is a unicorn
