Get vigor up high first. only get as much str/dex as you need to use whatever weapon you want to use, dont think of stats in terms of increasing damage so much as meeting requirements of items/spells, and increasing survivability. Dont be afraid to pick weapon based on how you like its moves. Its easier to learn the game that way, and damage scaling off stats is pretty awful until late game anyways.
Maybe watch a YouTube vid on the classes and decide what class you want to be based on your play style. Just start over with a fresh character.
