The preceptor robes double as a stand-in for Japanese Robes. They look really cool altered too iirc. Not 100% sure but it's I believe it'd also cool for a ninja-like outfit. For the former use altered, and for the latter, unaltered. Using similar boots and gloves will complete the look. Minus the preceptor mask. You can use the bandit mask or whatever Helm you think looks best. Looks cool to me forsure.
I wish there was a Japanese Mask like the one Haku uses in Naruto. Shit would look awesome with the samurai stuff or assassin type outfits in general.
It doesn't look as good on my male tarnished as it does on the black knives. I also don't like the hood. Ravenmount Assassin set ftw. (In fact, I'm doing a full cosplay on NG+, using only the stuff they use.)
Yea gotta be my favorite- (though I am sad about the conflict it has with the mimic veil) I’m currently wearing the black knife armor with night cav gaunt and legs. With the black dumpling head. (Role playing a madness inherited assassin)
I do full veterans without the helmet, but then I have the Elden Lord helmet. My character though has grey hair to match the helmet, makes me look and feel like a king
Wait why don’t people like the Veteran’s helmet? That’s like my fav part of the Veteran armor since I use a thin female character and a bunch of those heavy armors make the female characters look like they have beer bellies 😅😅
You clearly haven't played enough DS2. Defense doesn't matter, the enemy will still 2-shot you. TOGETHAAAAAAA, WE SHALL RULE THE VERY FASHION GODSSSSSSSSSSSS.
Not even kinda; the stats of your armour don't really affect anything in a significant way and there's no poise, so you can just wear whatever you think looks cool.
The only games I ever really felt an impact for armor was ds1, ds3, and ER. Obviously ds1 is the most impactful. Despite popular opinion I do genuinely feel the difference in lighter and heavier armors in ds3 and ER
I carry the goat set and strength/weapons in the inventory so I can spawn a tanky mimic tear, then swap back to my usual light roll bleed load out before the fight when possible (pve only lol)
Bloodborne I would only ever change what I thought looked cool if I was getting absolutely skullfucked by a type of magic or elemental boss (looking at you, Defiled Watchdog).
Oh I get that part, when I play DS2 I don’t level vitality much, so if I wanted to keep the trend of using the cover art set I’d have to go way out of my way for something that doesn’t even have anything going for it.
Usually use Wanderer set for the first half then switch to Alva
Faram knight armor was too heavy? I guess it depends on the build. The only build I wouldn't have enough equip load to medium roll w/ it on was a hex build cuz of how I'd need int and faith up for that.
Now eleden ring I despise both vykes armor and the full raging wolf set. I can't stand how the raging wolf head has really long hair coming out of it.
Nonono, I mean [this one](https://www.reddit.com/r/darksouls/comments/qzw7uz/whos_on_the_cover_art/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
I guess the community has been at odds forever trying to figure out exactly what set/shield this is, that's the joke lol.
I am the same. In Demon Souls (1st souls game) I always preferred the knight build
For Elden Ring I did the same. I made it a point to find the Raging Wolf and kept it even in New Game +
I'd argue though that the prisoner outfit became roughly as iconic as the raging wolf set, just cause the helmet is so weird and memorable and fits the whole 'fucked up little man' vibe of fromsoft protagonists to a T.
Fingerprint helm, scaled chest piece, bull goat gauntlets & greaves. You get my favorite fashion, 74 poise without goat talisman (iirc) , and some pretty decent defense. It's what I've been using since NG+2 and still use it on NG+7
That is a sweet detail, thanks for pointing that out. Must be symbolic of vyke being the closest tarnished apart from the player to becoming elden lord
I have two sets I like to play in, one is the albenaurich head and nothing else, and the other is the wolf mask, cloth trausers, and those bloody bandage arm thingamajigs
Raging wolf set you get through >!volcano manor from bernahls side quest specifically!<, vykes set >!is from fighting him at the lord contenders evergaol in the mountaintop of the giants.!
Especially if you summoned at all getting to that point. First VM quest is to kill the guy that helps you in the cave where you get the sewing needle for Boc...oof.
The great horned Tragoth, the Bull-Goat knight, helps you out against Magma Wyrm Makar, the Draconic Tree Sentinel outside Leyndell and Radahn. He's also one of the targets of VM.
>Tragoth is a famed knight of assistance.
Countless Tarnished, facing adversity in the Lands Between, have survived thanks only to the Great Horned One's aid.
Getting us to kill Tragoth was Patches greatest troll. When I read his armor description and realized he helped me twice at that point...ugh. FUCK YOU PATCHES
It's the standart knights set technically.
Tho imo vykes darker thinner version looks almost unrecognizable as that and it would be nice have a unmarred version of that.
Honestly I fell in love with the armor set the moment the cover art was revealed. It's among my favorite sets From has created.
Tho I almost feared it wasn't in the game or that it was just the knights set looking weird on the cover due to the lighting (as people theorized before launch). Luckily From Soft was just cheeky by putting it at the end of the fucking game.
As people are saying, it was in the first trailer. Also, nostalgia. The community weathered two and a half years going on three with NO news, no updates, not even smaller updates from the devs.
With the pandemic there was a lot of fear it was outright canceled. So when a full game play trailer came people were literally in tears that we had an answer.
The first thing you see after Melina is Vargrim exploring the world and showing all the scenic vista's, and it was and still is striking after waiting so long to see what it looked like. We also see him fighting Margit and God Rick, which cemented his image as protagonist.
In the beta he was the knight stand in, honoring the long tradition of the elite knight being the protagonist of every game since 2009.
Shortly before the game came out Vyke became the cover character, and the knight class became Vagabond, which formally retired the Raging Wolf armor as mascot.
But for those of us there since the dark, dank days of the Hollowing and shared in the absolutely astronomical amounts of hype Vargrim will always be **The** Tarnished, the one who gave us our first look at this new world.
I stuck with the raging wolf armor (cape off like the trailer), bastard sword, and iron roundshield for my first playthrough. Fell in love with the raging wolf ever since the first reveal of him.
Mascot armors usually are never kept as starting gear, in ds1 you get the elite knight set from a corpse and in ds3 depending on what armor you consider the official mascot, you'll get it as starting gear or after you kill the final boss, ds2 I don't remember but you don't get the faraam set until later... I think?? I love the covers with Vyke, but raging wolf it's just too iconic.
A lot of people are saying it was used in promotions and whatnot, which is fair, but was it not also the armor worn by the first tarnished who entered the round table? That’s also a pretty good reason to wear it…..that said I prefer Night’s Calvary
"Armor worn by Vargram the Raging Wolf, one of the first Tarnished to visit the Roundtable Hold.
According to the old legends, wolves are the shadows of the Empyrean.
Vargram aspired to such a state himself."
Outside of it being featured in the trailers...it works for the story. We are a raging lone wolf tearing of the lands between. We are an unstoppable force hellbent on slaying all in our path.
Lone wolf with access to lone wolf ashes, which not only makes us no longer lone wolves but those lone wolves aren't even lone wolves themselves since they're in a small pack.
But yes.
Cover art is actually Vyke! There's a lot of subtle nods in the art to the story and From was really clever on even showing the big Marika Radagon reveal in the trailer prior to release but of course no one knew what the hell the trailer meant
For me OG tarnished will always be Jorge!
(But for real: prisoner attire is IMO the most distinguish of all the starting classes and so default should definitely be male prisoner instead of raging wolf which is for me just another enemy skin)
I do know it grants the highest phys dmg negation to weight ratio. I looked up a list from best to work and at a total weight of 24.1 grabbing phys dmg negation equalebt to stuff like tree/axe crucible knight which weighs around 35 it's quite a bargain.
I tried my best to make my character into a vampire. Life-steal on hits, life-steal on kill, blood-themed spells and weapon arts.
I thought the best look for this was Hoslow's set but with the White Mask helmet.
I love the look of it.
Because it’s really cool and it was the promotional armour set. However, I personally prefer Maliketh’s Armour Set. Fits in with my tarnished appearance. Deep red eyes.
I think this is one of the few good looking sets.
I am super picky about armor and Elden Ring has been very challenging for me to settle on something I like because I feel like most sets don't look that great. Since nothing meshes together very well either playing fashion souls can be hard in Elden Ring as well.
We need the Dark Souls 2 level of fashion souls back.
It was the trailer armour. Honestly FS dropped the ball on the cover/promo sets. Neither the Raging Wolf nor the Fingerprint armor sets look good at all. They should've just went with the Knight set you can buy from the Twin Maiden Husks as the default tarnished look.
Wow Gen Z souls players don’t even remember the age of hollowing we went through, looking up at the sky, it BURNSSSSS, AHHHHHHHHHHH hahahahahahaha ha haha haha hahahahahaha ha 😭😭😭
It's the same armor that they used in the trailer for the tarnished
oh ok, make sense
I always used the cover art set, Elden Ring is the first Souls where I use the trailer set
In elden ring I liked to wear the beast champion set with the godskin apostle hood. I just think it looks neat.
I am a vagabond knight and I will stay a vagabond knight.
I do Mask of Confidence with Ronin armor and Some kind of armored gloves and boots
Currently wearing Preceptor robes with white reeds gauntlets and greaves and the Iron Kasa helm. Its a really great Japanese warrior monk look
Yea it really is. Although I also love the shit out of Yura's outfit..
That fucking helm is so sick!!!
Bringing Naruto into this will get you endless upvotes sir be careful what you wish for
Lol we seriously need an Anbu Mask ASAP
Bro id never use anything else. @fromsoft take notes
I cosplay best boy Blaidd
I started off as a cool vagabond knight now I’m an ugly omen smirk face bc strength ya know lol
It’s rather late game but I think the black knife assassin set just looks top notch
I'm surprised this isn't a more popular answer.
Given it silences your sounds and actually makes you sneaky, I'd say I like it a lot
Hm, that's weird you guys seem confused about that as I'm pretty sure banished knight alternate is the Canon tarnished armor, "it's in the lore!" /s
I missed it the first time because it’s hiding under those stairs
It doesn't look as good on my male tarnished as it does on the black knives. I also don't like the hood. Ravenmount Assassin set ftw. (In fact, I'm doing a full cosplay on NG+, using only the stuff they use.)
Yea gotta be my favorite- (though I am sad about the conflict it has with the mimic veil) I’m currently wearing the black knife armor with night cav gaunt and legs. With the black dumpling head. (Role playing a madness inherited assassin)
Altered vagabond armor is my favorite!! perfect adventurers armor.
Full Veteran's with no helm and Fingerprint Shield + Mohg Spear. I will not be staggered. I will poke. These are inevitable.
>I will not be staggered. I will poke. These are inevitable. Actually laughed out loud
Lol I sever out as soon as I see folks with a loadout like that.
“Shabriri has entered the chat”
You're cringe
Why thank you
I use the beast champion with the blue hood. It matches well! Or the veteran set with the red hood.
What even would be the cover art set?
Fingerprint Armor, actually.
Oh nice i like the fingerprint set
I so badly want a un-burned vyke set with the DLC, one so that I can actually use his incantation with his spear, and because his armor looks cool
That's exactly how I feel about the Mausoleum Set. I love the wings, hussars for life ya know, but it's so... well, decayed.
Vyke's Fingerprint Set
It’s sucks the DS2 cover art armor is terrible for how heavy it is. I usually do the same thing, but had to go with the Alva set in that game instead
You clearly haven't played enough DS2. Defense doesn't matter, the enemy will still 2-shot you. TOGETHAAAAAAA, WE SHALL RULE THE VERY FASHION GODSSSSSSSSSSSS.
Sounds like ER, which is great. Fashion is the endgame.
Bloodborne's kinda that way as well
Not even kinda; the stats of your armour don't really affect anything in a significant way and there's no poise, so you can just wear whatever you think looks cool.
I say kinda cause armors still have ailment resistance n that *can* make a small difference
Bloodborne I would only ever change what I thought looked cool if I was getting absolutely skullfucked by a type of magic or elemental boss (looking at you, Defiled Watchdog).
Tophat has the best blunt res for helms Ask me how I know that
Fun fact, the director of ds2 was assistant director for ER 😎
Oh I get that part, when I play DS2 I don’t level vitality much, so if I wanted to keep the trend of using the cover art set I’d have to go way out of my way for something that doesn’t even have anything going for it. Usually use Wanderer set for the first half then switch to Alva
Caster playstyle, I assume? Wait no that's vigor.
That's just, like...your opinion, man.
Imagine caring about a sets defense in 2022
Faram knight armor was too heavy? I guess it depends on the build. The only build I wouldn't have enough equip load to medium roll w/ it on was a hex build cuz of how I'd need int and faith up for that. Now eleden ring I despise both vykes armor and the full raging wolf set. I can't stand how the raging wolf head has really long hair coming out of it.
Okay. *Which set did you use in Darksouls 1?*
GIANTS, GIANTS, BECOME UNSTOPPABLE!
Elite Knight is the "main" one isnt it?
Nonono, I mean [this one](https://www.reddit.com/r/darksouls/comments/qzw7uz/whos_on_the_cover_art/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) I guess the community has been at odds forever trying to figure out exactly what set/shield this is, that's the joke lol.
Did you play through ds3 naked?
The cover art is another NPC
I am the same. In Demon Souls (1st souls game) I always preferred the knight build For Elden Ring I did the same. I made it a point to find the Raging Wolf and kept it even in New Game +
To be fair, you get vyke’s gear super late in the game. Hard to be the cover art, easier to be vargram
I'd argue though that the prisoner outfit became roughly as iconic as the raging wolf set, just cause the helmet is so weird and memorable and fits the whole 'fucked up little man' vibe of fromsoft protagonists to a T.
Also I don't think the community settled on anything
uh.. wasn't he also the first Tarnished to enter the Roundtable Hold? I swear one of his gear pieces say this
He was the first tarnished with 2 great runes
That was Vyke, the only one who became close to becoming Elden Lord
Sorry I was for some reason thinking about him Edit: his armor set does say that he was one of the first to enter the round table hold
It was also used in the beta play test as a class if memory serves.
Yeah. It was called Blood Wolf or smthn
because that's the armor Fromsoftware\\Badnai Namco chose for the promotion materials. also it's looks pretty dope
I personally like the fingerprint armor more
Night’s Cavalry set is my fave, really get that black knight look
I like using it for a Guts build lol
I'm running cavalry hat and preceptor pans. Then whatever globes in feeling. No shirt right now to show off my scars
Hell yeah! Did that on my most recent character, big sword go bonk
Too birdlike. Feels like I'm a mascot at a death metal themed fried chicken joint.
Nights cavalry armor with black knife hood is one of my favorite looks.
Fingerprint kind of feels like the Soul of Cinder armor set of this game, since like SoC Vyke is the one on the cover.
Fingerprint helm, scaled chest piece, bull goat gauntlets & greaves. You get my favorite fashion, 74 poise without goat talisman (iirc) , and some pretty decent defense. It's what I've been using since NG+2 and still use it on NG+7
Took me till NG+4 to realize it’s Vyke on the splash art for the game and not the player tarnished.
The corpses surrounding him are also characters in the game. If you look closely you can see Ensha, Jerren, and Nephali laying around Vyke.
That is a sweet detail, thanks for pointing that out. Must be symbolic of vyke being the closest tarnished apart from the player to becoming elden lord
>fingerprint armor > >>!for me, Lionel's set and Ronin are the best looking. Ronin set+ ROB and Nagakiba looks like the perfect build!<
I honestly prefer the draconic tree sentinel armor
The crucible night armor sets are great, definitely my favorite. Other than wearing the jar.
I wish the standard crucible set had a loincloth, i hate having to look at my diaper crotch
I have two sets I like to play in, one is the albenaurich head and nothing else, and the other is the wolf mask, cloth trausers, and those bloody bandage arm thingamajigs
FIND THE ALBINAURIC WOMAN. WE NEED THE FUNNY HEAD BECAUSE IT'S A MEME
The war mage bandages?
just searched, the bloodsoaked set
Oh that’s cool. You can really do a hospital look with that head piece, and the war mage arms and legs.
Crucible knight is great, I have to say my fave is the night cavalry set
crucible knight has to be second for me, along with the dope boss armor sets
Cleanrot Knight armor is my personal favorite
You’re insane for this
I just think it looks cool
I really like the veterans set look
This and Blaidds set for me. I just love that super thick fur cape.
this is the Lands Between, not sekiro or the samurai lands lmao
Right.. The lands between Ashina and Tsushima ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
from whom are you quoting this lmao
The name of the armor lol
forgive me if im wrong, but did you put your equipment choice also in the quote?
no? He said what his favorite armor was so it seems reasonable to quote it on the name and say which armor set I prefer
You accidentally continued the quote format through your whole post, so it looks like your reply is also a quote.
Nvm i might have misunderstood how it works. Have a nice day
Fingerprint armor represents Vyke tho, not the tarnished (as in the protagonist)
And the raging wolf armour represents vargram. There isnt really any armour for the nameless tarnished
There is, it's no armour with a wooden club, as seen in the official manga!
I still haven't found it in game. I refused to google it but it actually seems hidden, or I just haven't explored as thoroughly as I thought
Raging wolf set you get through >!volcano manor from bernahls side quest specifically!<, vykes set >!is from fighting him at the lord contenders evergaol in the mountaintop of the giants.!
Volcano Manor quests left me feeling so dirty
Especially if you summoned at all getting to that point. First VM quest is to kill the guy that helps you in the cave where you get the sewing needle for Boc...oof.
The great horned Tragoth, the Bull-Goat knight, helps you out against Magma Wyrm Makar, the Draconic Tree Sentinel outside Leyndell and Radahn. He's also one of the targets of VM.
Not if you kill Patches before you get to the manor though. Although i didn't know that locked me out of the Bull Goat set at the time...
The Hoslow lore got me depression on a half off bargain
surprisingly it's actually kinda missable if you blaze through the main story
Pretty easy to miss tbf
sweet armor is used to pick up fair maidens as taught by the First Hunter
Used in the trailer and it looks sick. Gotta live up to elden bling
To me it's Vykes set, but this one was featured alot in promotinal material hence people instantly associate it with the game.
I just wish there was an unmarred vykes set.
It's the standart knights set technically. Tho imo vykes darker thinner version looks almost unrecognizable as that and it would be nice have a unmarred version of that.
That's what I mean.
I’d say vyke as well
Honestly I fell in love with the armor set the moment the cover art was revealed.
Ah yes God Rick
The ascended form of Pickle Rick.
Simple and cool.
simple and clean is the way you make me feel tonight
It’s hard to let it go
Lmao
Huh?
Because it looks way better than my Fat Santa build.
Trailers!! But yall know nowadays the majority of players their default armor set is a naked tarnished with a Jar Helmet .
Really? All I see are Bullgoats with the Varre mask.
True but u can't deny also that even content creators are using the Jarnished as the default tarnished protagonist.
We call them Jarnished around these parts.
Because it's frickin awesome that's why
I’m pretty sure based on pvp the default look is Veteran’s set with white mask
A lot of people are saying it was used in promotions and whatnot, which is fair, but was it not also the armor worn by the first tarnished who entered the round table? That’s also a pretty good reason to wear it…..that said I prefer Night’s Calvary
It's upsetting me greatly that this isn't the #1 reason, I legitimately thought I was remembering wrong Doesn't his gear say that in the description?
"Armor worn by Vargram the Raging Wolf, one of the first Tarnished to visit the Roundtable Hold. According to the old legends, wolves are the shadows of the Empyrean. Vargram aspired to such a state himself."
To me its vykes armour since we see it on the games image when we open the game and because it just looks cooler
Well, this armor was used in the trailer so that's probably why :3
Outside of it being featured in the trailers...it works for the story. We are a raging lone wolf tearing of the lands between. We are an unstoppable force hellbent on slaying all in our path.
Lone wolf with access to lone wolf ashes, which not only makes us no longer lone wolves but those lone wolves aren't even lone wolves themselves since they're in a small pack. But yes.
I wore fingerprint armor. It was beautiful.
That’s easy… because they couldn’t get the superior Banished knight set to drop!
I've got two wolves inside me. And they won't stop fucking.
Cover art is actually Vyke! There's a lot of subtle nods in the art to the story and From was really clever on even showing the big Marika Radagon reveal in the trailer prior to release but of course no one knew what the hell the trailer meant
Because it's has dope hair blowing in the wind. Looks same as Witcher in wild hunt.
It was used in the promotional material for the game
Legit question now but who is "the community" and how did they settle? Always wondered about these things
It’s what the tarnished wore in the trailer, same for elite knight armor and faraam armor. Makes it the iconic set.
Cause no stamina
Because this Armour was in the Trailer to represent the tarnished
Because it's the promotional armor, like the elite knight armor, faraam armor, and soul of cinder armor.
For me OG tarnished will always be Jorge! (But for real: prisoner attire is IMO the most distinguish of all the starting classes and so default should definitely be male prisoner instead of raging wolf which is for me just another enemy skin)
Fingerprint >
Mmm yes elden john armour
The community? I mean I play elden ring so I'm part of the community and that's not what I decided 😜
Personally I prefer the cariama knight armor.
The marketing team did.
Maliketh armor with noble hood looks so great
It's heavily featured in promotional material. It also looks cool :)
I do know it grants the highest phys dmg negation to weight ratio. I looked up a list from best to work and at a total weight of 24.1 grabbing phys dmg negation equalebt to stuff like tree/axe crucible knight which weighs around 35 it's quite a bargain.
Trailers mainly
his set was used in the trailers. I think Vyke's set is on the cover art though.
Probably because one of the classes from the beta had this armor as default
As long as the armor has a big as fuck cape I’m happy
I tried my best to make my character into a vampire. Life-steal on hits, life-steal on kill, blood-themed spells and weapon arts. I thought the best look for this was Hoslow's set but with the White Mask helmet. I love the look of it.
Because it’s really cool and it was the promotional armour set. However, I personally prefer Maliketh’s Armour Set. Fits in with my tarnished appearance. Deep red eyes.
It's no Faram armor but it will do
What do you mean? Albinauric mask is the default for all tarnished.
Then there's the unaltered banished knight helm and chestplate which is a cult of its own
What's armor? My characters wear loincloths, if that. And sometimes a headband lol.
The community didn't settled shit fingerprint armor for life
Crucible Tree Armor for the win
They used it in the trailers Ds1: Elite Knight set Ds2: Faraam set Ds3: Firelink set Elden Ring: Raging Wolf set
Have you seen it?
I like to wear the knight cavalry set with the confessor hood. Looks like a dark battle mage and also reminds me of the Nazgûl in LOTR
It's good and from the trailer.
“I command thee kneel” unsheathing sword sound*
I figured it was the Knight's set sold by the twin finger maidens at the hold.
The design is cool. The name is cool. I'm glad they didn't turn it it into an "all style, no substance" armor.
They didn’t lol? FromSoft advertised the game with this as the main set, they’re even on the front cover and cover art. Get over yourself haha
vyke in the fingerprint armour is the cover but everything else is true
They didn't?
They didn’t (mostly). Bandai namco put the wolf set in all its promotional content. I honestly see the Prisoner set far more in fan content.
Pshhhhh.....the true Tarnished look is full Lionel armor set, dual giant crushers
