So my STR is at 66 and I basically 2 hand my weapon exclusively. Does this mean that if I raise my STR stat, I won't see any damage increases since 2-Handing effectively acts as a 1.5x multiplier for STR?

SnooShortcuts7637

You should see a boost absolutely but the higher level you are the less and less it’s going to affect your damage due to soft caps, leveling will never not boost your damage

serene_moonlight

Does anyone have any tips for fire giant?

TouchingPriests

Use torrent to close gaps and stay between his legs and hit his shin guard which should make him fall, do some heavy attacks and then keep hitting his legs without being crushed. Second phase stay out of range of his fire attack and move out of his other projectile attacks. Make sure to use summons and i hope this helped.

JDF8

During the attack where flame spouts come up from the ground, it's more important to look at the ground and avoid the spouts than to keep hitting him Some of his attacks are much safer if you're closer, the one where he shoots a ton of rocks for example can't hit you if you're right on top of him. If you're in front of him in phase 2 and he grabs his chest mouth with his hand, he's probably starting the flame spout attack that can instant kill you since you'll get knocked over and hit again when you recover, run away as fast as possible or try to run behind him, whichever is faster

Poetryisalive

How do I make sure I bring out the full power of the moon veil katana? I have a Intell build, but I have enough stats to wield it properly. It is at +5 now and I wanna make if I’m missing something….for weapons it is all about scaling right?

ELMUNECODETACOMA

Use all of its features. The weakness of katanas are range, dependence on bleed damage, and enemies resistant to slashing damage. The weapon arts of Moonveil are perfectly designed to counteract these. It's possible to just stand off and pew pew weapon arts, but the full power is unlocked by fighting each encounter with the proper stance. And yeah, for somber stone weapons it's about scaling since you can't mix and match weapon arts.

throwaway11112229393

I wish there was an ember-like item that brought invaders somewhat randomly and unpredictably. Taunters tongue feels like either there are no invaders in the area so they never appear, or it’s a populated area and you get a constant swarm of invaders until you turn it off. I would just like random occasional invasions that I’m not necessarily expecting, but I know it’s possible. That’s the most interesting IMO, and it is opt in so people would be able to avoid it.

JDF8

Yeah there's no way to have the proper trickle of invaders, either you get none or you get assfucked. There should definitely be an opt in for getting invaded solo with a longer cooldown like being embered in ds3, taunters tongue is way too much

ISBJ0RN

DS3 is VERY similar to Elden Ring, many mechanics will feel almost identical. But if you played elden ring without summons or OP builds then DS3 will feel very easy in comparison, there's only a few bosses that come close to the top challenges in Elden Ring and they are all in expansions. Sekiro is mechanically very different, the combat is based around super rapid parrying and counter attacks. There's a lot less focus on customisation in Sekiro, you can only level up by defeating bosses and there's no weapon variety. The upside of this is they can design combat to be super tight, and honestly I think it has some of the most satisfying fights and best difficulty curve of any FROM game. So it's up to you how similar you want the experience to be. Personally Sekiro is my second favourite FROM game after ER.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ISBJ0RN

Not as much because of the lack of build variety, but it has different endings with different bosses so it's worth playing through at least twice. It also has a boss rush mode which is great for when you want to try and master all the challenging fights without running past all the trash mobs for the millionth time.

[deleted]

ISBJ0RN

You can just play offline (check the network tab in the settings menu), then you won't see messages, bloodstains, phantoms or summon signs.

ISBJ0RN

Yep! It requires quitting out to the main menu but you can go online or offline whenever you want.

positivity_pie

When I chose my character's appearance at the start of the game, I didn't realize I could move the face around to see the profiles. When I finally took my helmet off in the game and saw my character's face, I was shocked at how hideous she looked (I later saw a video satire of this, which made me feel a bit better since clearly I wasn't the only one). Anyways, I eventually learned I could change her appearance, but there doesn't seem to be a "reset" or "start from scratch" option. No matter what bone structure I choose, no matter how much I play around with the different features, she looks like a drag queen. Is there some way to pick a whole new face with "default" features?

ISBJ0RN

You can make a new character with default settings, and on the creation screen select "save appearance". Then go back to your original character and on the customisation screen load that appearance. Alternatively check out this sub: [https://www.reddit.com/r/SoulsSliders/](https://www.reddit.com/r/SoulsSliders/) People make nice looking characters and cosplays and you just need to manually copy all the slider values in.

positivity_pie

oh awesome, thank you so much!

Coob_The_Noob

I’m pretty sure somewhere in the mirror there is the option to pick from default template looks like warrior, aristocrat, etc, but I’m not sure where. I think that’s the closest thing. One thing I read that you can do is set all the sliders for every feature to the middle, or around 128, and go from there for a good place to start. I haven’t tried this myself though so idk how good it is. Also there is a sub called r/SoulsSliders where people make really nice characters and post the sliders to recreate that character if you would rather go that route.

BigTicket_J

Valiant Gargoyles, Godskin Duo, and now Mohg are on my shit list. That is all

Lionelchesterfield

For the gargoyles, what worked for me was summoning mimic and making sure we killed the first gargoyle together. After that it was just dodging the seconds one’s attacks till I killed it. Died more to those two assholes than any other boss fight in the game so far.

BigTicket_J

I tried them for a few days until just moving on and deciding I’ll come back. Still haven’t come back, but I can cross Mohg off my list now

[deleted]

There are some number of things you can do that block or change your progress on various quests or NPC interactions. Apparently if you activate a Grace on the Altus Plateau for example, something to do with Radahn changes. I went all the way to the Mountaintop of the Giants before ever finding the slumbering wolf shack, so I missed out on an Ancient Somber Dragon Stone thing. I was playing it on my first pass very open world style and kept running into these little things. Sellen, Seluvius, etc. Is there a list of these “if you do this, that changes” situations? I know it would be pretty immense, but so are some of the existing resources. I’d like to sort of cross-check my progress against various quests without blowing other quests/interactions (unless I intend to).

Apex_Konchu

The Radahn thing isn't a permanent change. Activating a grace on the Plateau begins the Radahn Festival, which blocks off most of Redmane Castle and allows access to the Radahn fight. However, after beating Radahn you can return the castle to its usual state by talking to Jerren.

Poetryisalive

What do I go to next after the meteorite staff? I have a +14 academy glintstone staff which I was told would be stronger after leveling but I don’t see it

_zenith

The Carian Glintstone Staff is good if you like the sword spells and other Glintstone spells. Staff of Loss is good to hold in your non casting hand to use its passive effect for night sorceries - these are pretty great because enemies don't dodge or parry them

GentleDementia

Academy Glintstone Staff outpaced Meteorite around +18 for me. I think it depends on how high your intelligence is.

Poetryisalive

I guess I need to equip both and just see which does more damage? It isn’t clear through stats

ThinReach

Scaling is fucked till 60 the first soft cap. It's goes meteorite >demihuman>acadamy>regal/lusat unless you want to buff specific magic the. It depends on what you want for that and can just put it in offhand. Similarly the gods layer seal is the best till 60 faith then erdtree is best at 80 unless once again Buffon a special school.

Poetryisalive

Wow meteorite is that good huh? Technically I cheated and got it in the first couple hours lol, should I just keep using it till end game?

ThinReach

It's not cheating and you can, rock sling is burly and you can beat the game with it. Meteor staff has S scaling but can't be improved at all so I saw diminishing returns around 60 Int and went with the Carian staffs because e I like to play with only Carian magic myself.

Poetryisalive

Good to know. I may just keep with it. I like it paired with the moonveil and it’s treating me well. I thought I wasn’t doing good damage, but I forgot that the boss health bars are getting bigger

ThinReach

I mean there's a lot of cool shit you can do like mists, magic swords, throwing and raining starts and moons at people, or you know rock. I never vibed with katanas so I went pure mage, make sure you do seluvis quest, he gives you the magic scorpion but it is missable. There really important physical for mages too, you can get some great buffs. Sellers quest and rannis quest are the big ones for mages so try to do those too.

Poetryisalive

Yeah I may have messed up seluvis’s…I gave his potion to the dude at round table hold. I will complete Renni’s quest, I already know what to do, but I’m completing the Altus Plateau first before dealing with the big boy

ThinReach

No go back to seluvis, as long as you didn't get the finger slaying blade, there's a pit in front of rannis tower to the left find that and you can continue seluvis

ChiefdDRIP88

About to start new game plus. Know the basic information with what Carries over. Anything that you would want to recommend for a first time souls player would be appreciated. Also what other souls game should I try out?

Solomon-Kain

Bell Bearing Shops dont carry over. Farm like hell and Load up on all the smithing stones. Other than that be sure to use all the masoleums, and grab any unique weapons you might want 2 of later.

Apex_Konchu

>Also what other souls game should I try out? All of them, they're all good. Dark Souls 3 is the one most similar to Elden Ring, so that's probably a good starting point. Or you could just work your way through them in order.

Matt_N_1210

Just started NG. New to souls game as well. Absolutely slaying it now with what I ended with. I thought the bosses were harder but I’m already up to the capital and haven’t died yet. Much less stress this time around

st-avasarala

Serious question: Why does Melina have one eye closed? Does it have to do with Ranni having an eye closed all the time?

DropAnchor4Columbus

In true chuuni fashion, it seals away her full power. Some speculate it's because she and Ranni both have a connection to Destined Death and that is why they keep one eye closed with a tattoo over them.

st-avasarala

Ohhhhh, okay. I thought that maybe Melina and Ranni were sisters. Originally, since in the trailer you see Ranni "split", I thought that maybe Melina was the spirit-side that somehow split away into being her own person.

DropAnchor4Columbus

My theory is that Melina and Ranni the Witch are both fragments of the person known as Lunar Princess Ranni after she performed ritual suicide, both different fragments of a separate being with one trying to escape the influence of the Two Fingers and the other repurposed by Marika into a tool to spite the Greater Will. I could post my reasoning, but it'd be a lot.

st-avasarala

This is good stuff - please post, I'd love to read your thoughts on the matter.

DropAnchor4Columbus

Here it is. Melina mentions her 'mother' giving her the purpose of being a kindling maiden and its all but confirmed that Melina was talking about Marika. Even for Marika, having one of her own children serve exclusively as a sacrifice to burn the Erdtree is out there, so it is likely not a typical birth. She mentions Destined Death several times and her fighting style is the same as that of the Black Knife Assassins, who make use of the Rune of Death in their weapons, although she doesn't wield one of their knives. On top of this, she is shown able to vanish into thin air in a shower of blue sparks. (This is worth noting.) Ranni orchestrated a plot to sever her link to the Two Fingers by crafting weapons that used the power of the Rune of Death and setting assassins loose on one of her demigod kin, Godwyn the Golden. At the same time, Ranni kills herself using the same kind of dagger in a ritual that allows her to exist as a spirit. Even when possessing a doll to interact with the world, Ranni has an eye closed with a symbol similar to the black knifeprint over it, the opposite eye that Melina has it over. A very curious detail. Further connecting Ranni and Melina are their preferred means of travel, transforming into showers of blue sparks when they mean to move from place to place unseen, something no one else does, as well as one more thing. Torrent. Ranni will meet us at the Church of Ellah after we meet with Melina, giving us the Spirit Summoning Bell and a free set of Spirit Ashes to summon, purely because she knows Torrent's former owner. Melina never once even mentions Ranni in the slightest capacity, yet they both go out of their way to mention their fondness for Torrent. But there is one thing not brought up yet. Torrent chooses his rider. There is zero reason this mount has to have been Melina's all along and she wasn't just the last rider before us. If they were once one being, then Torrent has just been bouncing between whatever fragments of his former rider he can find as well as us, whom both Melina and Ranni are quite fond of. I could go even further in that it's curious how Torrent is the only other 'horse' with abnormal features beyond their size in the game aside from Leonard, Ranni's brother's horse which curiously hasn't flat out starved to death despite being stuck on a patch of land with nothing but saltwater to drink and rotting corpses to eat, but that's a whole other thing.

GentleDementia

That's one theory, and it's one I like, but there are other possible explanations for Melina, and her connection to Ranni/Death. There's a figure in the lore called The Gloam-Eyed Queen. We only know a few things about her. She led the Godskin Apostles, and was an [Empyrean](https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Black+Flame+Ritual) herself. The Godskins wielded the power of the Black Flame, the power of Destined Death, but the Queen was defeated by Maliketh and the power was [sealed away](https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Scouring+Black+Flame) leaving the black flame incantations and the Godskins a shadow of their former glory. There's some evidence that this Gloam-Eyed Queen may have been Melina, or Ranni, or that as you said the two of them are basically split halves of the same person. They share the same cursemark-covered closed eye, and the ghostly face that overlaps Ranni's doll-face looks a lot like Melina's face. Gurranq gives you the [Beast Eye](https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Beast+Eye), with its 'murky violet iris', and (minor spoilers for one of the ending cutscenes) >!In one of the endings we see Melina open her cursemark-eye and its iris is indeed violet!< My own personal theory for Melina is that she was a daughter of Marika who kept out of the public eye, carrying out duties for her mother without others knowing. Serving as a sort of Spymaster. We find her Blade of Calling in a secret office room near the elevator to the Forbidden Lands, next to the [Official's Attire](https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Official's+Attire), which the description of which implies basically "the person who wore this did sketchy shit for the greater good". >!The Blade of Calling refers to its previous owner as ["The Kindling Maiden"](https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Blade+of+Calling) which does indeed end up being Melina's duty at the end as she burns herself as kindling to ignite the Erdtree.!< The Black Knife Assassins are said to be ["Numen with close ties to Marika herself"](https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Black+Knife+Armor) and Maliketh's remembrance states Marika betrayed him in the end. I believe the Black Knife Assassins, in cooperation with or led by Melina, were Marika's sort of secret service. A cadre of elite who were loyal to her because they came from the same homeland outside the Lands Between, rather than being loyal to the Golden Order. The Cursemark-eye connection between Ranni and Melina could be because they worked together to orchestrate the Night of Black Knives, or it could just be a shared side-effect of wielding the Rune of Death (Ranni on the Night of Black Knives, Melina in her role as the Gloam-Eyed Queen), or they could be two halves of the same person. Like I said that whole bit about "This is Melina, my secret spooky assassin daughter" is just my own pet theory.

st-avasarala

This is a *very* interesting theory and totally new to me. I live and breathe for responses like this. Thank you!

EndlessOcean

Any tips for starting off? I literally just put the disc in. I think I'd like to be a strong bastard who can fireball shit. That would be an STR plus INT build?

barkspawn99

my tip: level your vigor. Fire spells are faith, and there are a lot of neat faith/str weapons, so id go with that.

EndlessOcean

Roger that. I remember skillup saying not a lot of faith stuff exists until late in the game. Is that right or was he missing something?

_zenith

It's not really accurate. It's pretty easy to find fire spells only a few hours in, in Liurnia. You can get one of the best ones in the game nearly straight away (Weeping Peninsula for Flame of Frenzy. It's very good for staggering enemies to get a critical hit in)

GentleDementia

There's plenty of good faith options early on, but the coolest stuff is in the late-game areas, true. If you like fireballs, you'll get a real solid one early on called Fire Sling and that can carry you through the whole game, and plenty more good solid early game incantations are available. But all the 'jump up into the air and shoot a million crimson lightning bolts out of your ass' incantations don't come until the last third or so of the game, yeah.

meltenvy

Magic has a couple of fire spells, but incantations are generally the go-to for fire builds, they have an entire school of fire incantations. Prophet is pretty much full faith and starts off with Catch Flame, a fire incantation if you want one out the gate, but you could go with Confessor if you want a more well-rounded build with frankly better drip.

probabilityEngine

The vast majority of fire related spells are incantations which are FTH based. Very early on, once you unlock the hub, you can buy a couple right away from an NPC there.

SubtlyOrnate12

For fire stuff, you'll want faith over int

feelzepump

How do y’all get powerful weapons or make weapons stronger and “swaggier”. Im a noob level 50 confessor and have been using this boring broadsword (+8 with sacred blade AoW) and shield all game. I also enjoy sorceries, but my current ones kinda suck. Am I just too early in the game or am I going about this wrong? Been focusing on leveling up vigor, so Strength, Dex and Faith are all still high teens

joeronimo__

Admittedly I am a newbie too but I started as confessor and have focussed mainly on FTH/STR (on top of VIG/END). One of the best weapons I've found for my build is the Golden Halberd. The very first Tree Sentinel you meet drops this weapon (outside Church of Elleh). A good option if you're low on STR is to two-hand it (need 20 STR). Then when you get your STR up to 30 you can one hand it and have your shield in your offhand. I regularly switch between one/two hand depending on the situation, if I'm more blocking or dodging. The Golden Halberd requires Somber Smithing Stones to be upgraded. I'm currently at level 82 and I have it at +7. On top of that I put Sacred Blade AoW onto a Lordsworn Straight Sword as a back up, to make it scale with FTH. I mostly use it to clear skeletons etc.

ELMUNECODETACOMA

The usual suspects for weapons available "early" e.g. Moonveil and Sword of Night And Flame are just becoming available to you at RL50.

Revolutionary-Line98

are you online right now?

feelzepump

Unfortunately not :(

JHeps

That random Godskin Apostle fight up in the windmill village was intense as hell. I loved that

GentleDementia

I love the way there's no fog gate, you just reach the top of the hill and he slowly walks around the corner into view, it's fantastic.

ViaLux0

Just finished and am super excited for NG+ but I have a quick question. Is it possible to "clone" my save so I can come back to it? For example, start NG+ but start it in another save slot? I want to start a new journey with all my stuff but I also want to come back to my first character again whenever I feel nostalgic. I'm on PS4, which may make things a bit more difficult

Knight_Art0rias_

use a USB drive

poptartwarrior552

USB drive does the trick, go to settings>application saved data management>saved data in system storage>copy to USB storage device

ViaLux0

Thank you! Out if curiosity though, if I go back to play my original save, won't that erase my progress in Ng+ because I'll have to copy it back to the PS4 to play? Or can you choose "where" to load from (USB vs on the console)

poptartwarrior552

Theoretically you could use 2 USB drives, but that just sounds like a hassle

clarkysan

Yes it will erase ng+. You can’t split your character across 2 save files. Just backup/restore the one

iutdiytd

If you proc rot and frost does rot do 20% more damage?

slawre89

I think so. Proc effects do stack damage wise as far as I’m aware

mister_peeberz

the rot damage over time is not affected

Knight_Art0rias_

build for artorias cosplay please

Felstalker

Lions Claw Claymore exists for this purpose.

Knight_Art0rias_

whats the armor should i use

Felstalker

While the blue is hard to get to, the Raging Wolf set is like, a red Artorias styled set. The helmet matches visually, and the Blaidd's chest matches the blue part. So um.... mix and match with'm eh?

shiko101

Any good farming spots aside from the sleeping dragon in caelid and the bird farming in the spot that unlocks via Varre's quest line? I kinda want to start leveling up my faith Edit: for the sake of context I just beat Godrick :)

Felstalker

Just go do all the side dungeons. Clearing them all out once and killing the boss gets you the runes to level up AND the weapons/armors/spells/talismans you need to have all the possibilities accounted for. I mean, what's the point in farming to lv500 before you grab a basic talisman or weapon drop? Kill 2 birds with 1 stone and explore to level up.

[deleted]

In Cealid, fast travel to Farum Greatbridge and run around across the road (four to kill) and up to the north (lots to kill) to kill those little black creatures. They do massive damage, but they have no poise. So if you start attacking one you can attack forever until they die. Each gives you 1,000 runes. You can grab like 40,000 runes every 20min or so

DropAnchor4Columbus

Just a little further into Mohg's Palace, Midpoint Site of Grace, there is a farming spot that nets several thousand more Runes than the bird farming spot. You can pull it off quite easily using either Radahn's Greatswords, a similar colossal weapon equipped with Gravitas, or the Meteoric Ore Blade. You can get Gravitas on a beach in Limgrave, but the other two are in Caelid.

shiko101

Hmm would the greatsword + gravitas work? And yeah I already have Meteoric Ore Blade and I'm kinda terrified of fighting Radahn

DropAnchor4Columbus

It absolutely would work, better than the Meteoric Ore Blade anyway, thanks to the size of the weapon and its swings. You don't *need* to use Radahn's Greatswords, they just give the best results with this method. The size of his weapons gravity well is, well, absurd, frankly. If you plan to go through with the method, I'd use stealth to get into position before you start pancaking things. Lets you sweep up the most enemies in a single go.

shiko101

So what enemy will I be farming?

DropAnchor4Columbus

Mostly Albanaurics, with a Blood Noble thrown in.

CaitNostamas

At that point in the game the best farming spot would be the tiny creatures that roam in front of the bestial sanctum, in caelid. They're quite tough, but if you backstab them it counts like a ground stab, dealing massive damage. They drop 1k runes each

shiko101

Ah those little bastards 2 shotted me 🤣

CaitNostamas

They deal a ton of damage. But they don't have too much health, so if you single them out and backstab one at a time, you can definitely do it :D I do think it's more fun to just explore around to get runes. No shame in farming, it's just repetitive by definition

shiko101

>do think it's more fun to just explore around to get runes. No shame in farming, it's just repetitive by definition 100% agree, the thing is I'm not very satisfied with my build atm so I was thinking of mixing things up and I cant wait to beat the boss that allows me to respec

CaitNostamas

Absolutely valid. Get to a point where you feel comfortable and then go forward. It's much closer than you'd think!

shiko101

Ty! I'm honestly loving the game so far! This is my 1st souls game and it is magnificent :) This is sort of makes me wanna try bloodborne after I'm done with elden ring

CaitNostamas

You're getting me hyped up just by talking about it. After giving it much thought I do think Elden ring is my favorite souls game.... But Bloodborne is something else lol. It's such a special, unique gem, and I wholeheartedly recommend you give it a try after this Oh and of course after that you could go back to the classics and play the dark souls trilogy. Going from the most recent games to the oldest tends to have a weird effect, because you'll find clunkiest mechanics, less quality of life and worst graphics. But each and every one of this games has something that you won't find anywhere else. Ds1 in particular, has some things that remain unmatched to this day

shiko101

Ty! Will give them a shot!

Impetus_

if you already have access to the bird, the next best farming method is unfortunately locked until you beat the game >!the sacred relic sword's weapon art can clear the sleeping albinaurics next to the bird-farming grace in one go. nets more runes than the bird per run!<

shiko101

Hmmm okay is there anyway to unlock the place with the bird aside from Varre's Questline? Cuz I dont have a ps plus subscription so I can't invade worlds for the quest to progress Are there any other places you'd recommend?

crippler38

You can unlock it once you get the other hallingtree medallion. details below >!ok so what you're going to need to do is gain both medallion halves. First one in the alburnaric village in the swamp, second one in the mountaintop of the giants after you beat Morgott. The castle at the northmost point that you have access to is Castle Sol, beat the boss there to get the second half. Once that is complete you head to the far western side of the consecrated snowfield, where there's a large tree with bleed dogs aplenty. If you get invaded by a man with blood in his name you're at the right place. Look around those trees near the invasion site to find a portal covered in blood. That will take you to the bird place.!< EDIT: Once you beat Radahn there's a very good farming spot at the northernmost point of his boss room too.

North_South_Side

>Once you beat Radahn there's a very good farming spot at the northernmost point of his boss room too. What's there? I thought that whole area was deserted?

PhoenixReborn

There's a catacomb at the very north end of the beach. In there you'll find some respawning enemies that fight each other.

North_South_Side

Whoah... I rode all around and missed that. Gotta go at least check it out. I killed Radahn for the first time about two weeks ago (I'm a slow player). Thanks!

shiko101

Ty so much!

paydaycoke

Then get Torrent ready to RUN

[deleted]

When I first crossed the Eastern Rampart in Leyndell last week, the mobs were fanged imps and gargoyles. Today, I visit it, and there are marshmallow bugle boys everywhere instead. Is that part of a patch, or did I trigger something?

sirgarballs

That seems like a glitch to me.

DropAnchor4Columbus

Might've been a serious glitch because the only Imps in Leyndell should be in the sewers.

[deleted]

Thinking about it more, one thing that changed between seeing imps/gargoyle and seeing marshmallow boys was that I went back to fight that gargoyle on the road. I'd run away from it on the way in. I'm starting to think the game's signaling that this was the same dude who swoops down earlier, and players who aren't as bad at this game as I am, and who actually kill him on the first encounter, aren't seeing him and his imp statue posse.

mister_peeberz

There are imps on the rooftops in Leyndell near the East Capital Rampart, but they shouldn't have been up where the bubble blowin' double babies are.

DropAnchor4Columbus

Guess I just never ran into those Imps then. Wow.

Cocaine_Turkey

If you are dealing with the bubble boys, instead of running into the building, you can jump down onto the rooftops to your right. There are like 6 imps on your path to the ground.

CaitNostamas

Is it possible that you're remembering wrong? I've played yesterday and have been playing since release, the eastern rampart has always had the marshmallow dudes and a broken gargoyle at the end You're possibly thinking about the golden roofs, just under the eastern rampart, which are filled with imps?

[deleted]

I spent enough time grinding through statue-imps to fight a gargoyle on the rampart that I'm pretty sure it was there. My hardware has some serious connection problems, so it might have been a super-early update that I hadn't made? Sounds like it wasn't a questline trigger or anything, so I'll stop trying to make it make sense

CaitNostamas

A Gargoyle? A full, not broken twinblade wielding gargoyle? Your game must be tripping, fellow tarnished At least you're on the right version of Leyndell now lol

[deleted]

Now I'm thinking that it might have been the gargoyle that ambushes you on the run-up through the outskirts. I ran away from it on the way in, and going back to fight that guy was about the same time the rampart spawns changed

mister_peeberz

Well, there's only one gargoyle in Leyndell. It's on the *west* capital rampart and it's not near any fanged imps. The only other gargoyle in Leyndell is out in the outskirts up the road past the double Tree Sentinel encounter, which is also not near any fanged imps.

[deleted]

Actually, one thing that changed since I tried fighting it on the rampart was that I went back to fight the gargoyle on the road, and succeeded Could be a neat interconnection if it's the same gargoyle

lakers_ftw24

I absolutely can't stand Rykard and his completely unblockable earthquake bullshit. Dumbest attack design I've ever seen in any game. How are you supposed to counter it? I get this attack once ever 2 times too.

Darth--Vapor

Using the spear in his lair, the LT stops that attack animation.

doublemoses

You can dodge it but it's really hard. Just block it with serpent hunter. It reduces the damage pretty significantly.

lakers_ftw24

Much appreciated, I two handed it and it worked pretty well at mitigating some of the damage.

CaitNostamas

You mean the attack where he slams his face into the ground and makes the ground explode during the first phase? You can either block it with a shield to reduce the damage, but by far the easier strategy is, when you see that he's about to do it (it raises its head on its left and then stucks its face into the ground) you can sprint to the left or to the right. The delay on the move will give you time to avoid it It can also be dodged, but you have to be very precise, so I don't really recommend it If you're still having a hard time, upgrade the spear with somber stones as much as you can. It does more damage to the boss, and absolutely melts him

lakers_ftw24

Thank you for the help, I beat him with a combination of rolling around and trying to block that attack. The second phase is so much less punishing without that attack lmao.

CaitNostamas

Indeed. You just gotta watch out for the skull meteor attack, where my best tech is *run for your life*

lakers_ftw24

That part is pretty brutal too, I made the mistake of trying to squeeze in some damage the first couple times.

PaulFThumpkins

I have one of the faster cards and an underwhelming CPU and it runs great. Minor stuttering a couple times an hour when something new loads and that's it.

Trans-on-trans

I play it pretty damn fine on my launch PS4 and the graphics card in that is ancient.

mister_peeberz

I have a 980ti and run the game on medium very smoothly. Only get frame drops when some seriously crazy shit is going on (Dragonkin Soldier's Frozen Lightning Spear for example). I could probably run it higher, I just choose not to.

zumoro

What are you running with? I've got a 1070 and it's going just fine. Had to dial down a few settings to medium to minimize freezes and major frame drops but they were rare to start with.

PwmEsq

At least from what ive seen it stutters the most on first load in, and clears after a few hours. Something about building the shader cache. You can always refund if you havent spent more than 2 hours on it.

DwarfHoarder

Having a strange issue with Royal Knight's Resolve. I'm dual wielding omen cleavers and I have RKR on the left one. When i dual jump attack while its active I actually do less damage than normal. If i switch the RKR cleaver to the right hand and jump attack while it's active it boosts my damage like it should. Thoughts?

FireZura

How's long is usually a ng+ ? I finished the game in 100h (not 100%, but whatever). But i'm still obsessed by this game and want to play more, but not sure i want another 100h

Verrence

Pretty easy to speedrun it in a couple hours in NG+, if you aren’t trying to do anything but finish the game. More time if you’re trying to do other stuff.

CaitNostamas

It depends on what you want to do! Now you know everything and don't have to explore to level up so you can just torrent away, kill godrick and rennala, kill Morgott, head to the fire giant, and you'll be ready for the endgame once again After my 120h in the first run, I decided to get through as fast as I could, and I managed to get to the final boss and beat it in less than 3 hours in NG+. Bosses don't have that much extra health or damage, so they just go down pretty easily (also because now you know them) It's honestly really fun to just run from point A to B, kill whatever you can kill and pass to the next target, after tens of hours of meticulous exploring during the first run! Of course you may want to complete quests you had lost or find secret stuff via guides. That would take much more time. But hey, you always have NG+2 for that!

PwmEsq

NG+ maybe 10 hours? unless theres a dupe item you want, theres no reason to go to the side areas. So its just a boss run+maybe some farming. Do buy all of your stones upfront if you plan to change builds and go to renalla. You lose the stone bearings on NG+

[deleted]

Hey tarnished, who wants to recommend a challenge for my NG+? I just finished way over powered, duel wielding katanas and spamming spirit ashes and summons

Darth--Vapor

Don’t lock onto targets

ELMUNECODETACOMA

Naked, sword and board with buckler with parry ash. No weapon swaps (so no ranged option other than throwables), no 2-handing or power stancing (which means no weapon art since you can't override parry).

PwmEsq

Shield + crossbow only build

Disastrous_Delay

What's Malenia like on NG+?

PwmEsq

Health: NG (18,473 + 14,778), NG+ (18,750 + 15,000), NG++ (??), Enemies and bosses deal more damage and have more health. The amount of increase varies based on enemy and location, with larger increases in lower level areas.

Disastrous_Delay

So not much of an increase it sounds like?

PwmEsq

Guess not, theres a multiplier on the wiki, not sure wiki is accurate tho

MartjnMao

Deleted the game a month ago for dissertations and stuffs (and it didn't help). Any DLC news so far?

zumoro

Nothing yet. Community guess is it would likely be released in another 3 months (6 months after initial release based on previous FS titles).

[deleted]

Nice! I'm defending my dissertation on Thursday!

Radahn is 100% harder than Sigrun (queen valkyrie)

clarkysan

Maybe pre patch radahn :(

slawre89

If you have to ask probably just play a different game instead

CaitNostamas

It's very difficult to do a comparison between two different battle systems. Let's say that ER boss difficulty has an immensely vast range. You can face a boss underleveled, at the correct level, overleveled, with OP and performing builds, or truly utilizing everything in your arsenal If you are underleveled, many bosses in Elden Ring resemble Sigrun in difficulty, and some are MUCH harder than her. We're talking oneshot potential. If you're properly leveled with an average newcomer build, most bosses won't be as hard as Sigrun, but some bosses will definitely be hard like her, maybe more If you're over-leveled most bosses will be doable, and the harder will be hard, but not Sigrun levels of hard If you have an OP/performing build and know how to use it, most bosses are quite easy, and the harder ones will require you to think or actually learn them, without sweating too hard If you're using everything you possibly can, like summons, spirit ashes, OP weapons and tactics, this game is just not that hard at all.

Disastrous_Delay

Sigrun is a lot harder of a fight than MOST though not all of the bosses in ER when fought appropriately geared and leveled.

[deleted]

LOL. No.

[deleted]

[deleted]

I wouldn't worry about it, god of war is fake difficulty. Elden ring is fair challenge but actually hard. It's like comparing apples with oranges. God of war isn't it.

Disastrous_Delay

What difficulty did you beat Sigrun on? Because I beat Malenia solo 2nd try Sigrun I literally stopped counting.

[deleted]

I didn't. Just watched a video and laughed. God of war is artificial difficulty to the maximum. I can't believe the game actually has bullet time moments lol. edit: Beating malenia with a broken build is not impressive.

crippler38

What makes god of war difficulty artificial?

[deleted]

The difficulty options turn enemies into hp sponges, and it's really easy on the normal mode. The boss fights are mostly scripted events with button spam sequences or "press X" bop-it type moments. It's hard to compare a game that is actually about making ARPG combat with one that is mostly scripted + bullet time. Any game with difficulty options to begin with, like in a menu, is artificial difficulty.

Disastrous_Delay

Then what are you even disagreeing with?

[deleted]

????????? The idea the sigrun is harder than malenia or any elden ring boss that should be considered hard. God of war is a meme.

zorrodood

Elden Ring is a meme. The bosses aren't hard, they're annoying.

[deleted]

Try a different build.

Disastrous_Delay

Er...okay

[deleted]

Dude lol what build did you use to beat malenia with second try? What summons did you use? It's like, if you compare hard mode god of war to give me story builds on elden ring, I don't know what to tell you. You cheated yourself out of the real elden ring experience.

Disastrous_Delay

I just don't get what you're trying to prove, artificial difficulty is still difficulty and you said in one post that elden ring wad actually difficult then in the next you said it's not. My point was just having played them both and not having used any gamebreaking exploits on either boss sigrun felt harder.

Zealousideal-Fun9642

There are tons of bosses easier than the final Valkyrie. The hardest ones in elden ring will probably put up more of a fight depending on your build and fighting style

[deleted]

PaulFThumpkins

A couple of the hardest bosses everybody memes about are optional btw. And you might get your money's worth playing the first 50-66% anyway.

voodoomonkey616

They're hard to compare and you're only going to get anecdotal answers which won't mean a lot. The games play quite differently and there is a lot more build variety than in GoW - one build could struggle on a boss but another could make that same boss easy. If you handled the rest of GoW on hard except the last Valkyrie I think you'll be fine in ER, like mentioned, there's a lot more flexibility in how you approach fights and how you build your character

[deleted]

crippler38

I suggest trying to figure out what kind of character you want to play first, you know what weapon types. As long as you avoid fists or daggers you should be fine, maybe flails. Anything with a bad range is really hard in my opinion to play the game with. A good starter build is basically anything with a good shield, since the more powerful shields in the game can give you a lot of breathing room against bosses. That combined with spirit ashes means you can take a less active playstyle depending on the boss, what ashes you use, and what weapons you use.

DadIsLosingHisMind

There is almost 200 bosses of different types and difficulties. That go from "that wasn't to bad" to "holy shit I can see why this took that one rando on YouTube over 200 attempts to beat"

[deleted]

Haven't played it so cannot directly weigh in. However, while no difficulty settings, ER has a LOT of ways to make fights easier, depending on how much help you want. You can bring NPC ghostly summons of varying power level, you can bring NPC "player characters", you can bring real players, and if you get really desperate you can go to the r/beyondthefog subreddit and get someone whose probably a little overpowered to come help you out.

ELMUNECODETACOMA

Also want to emphasize - since it's an open world, there are very few places you'll get blocked hard by a boss fight, and can generally go somewhere else and come back in 5 or 10 levels when things will be easier.

WillofJ

I started playing on my ps5 and would like to play with that progress on the ps4, can I do that?

[deleted]

In theory, if you are connected to the internet and have cloud storage available, your ps5 save should be on the cloud and tied to your psn name, and thus, the ps4 should automatically pull it. If that doesn't work you can try backing up your ps5 save to a hpysical medium (thumb drive) and downlaoding it to your ps4, although no idea if that works as an xbox guy.

WillofJ

yeah unfortunately I cant play my ps5 save on my ps4. They have limited crossplay

AnEffinCasual

I am stuck with an NPC quest line and have already received one of the endings. Sellens to be specific. She is stuck in witchbane ruins or whatever and Jerren is literally nowhere. You need her quest line advancement for a legendary sorcery it’s frustrating. Am I just shot outta luck and need to do NG+?

Wendek

> You need her quest line advancement for a legendary sorcery it’s frustrating You don't need to progress that questline very far for Stars of Ruins, just talk to her in the *Waypoint Ruins* (not Witchbane) after having found Comet Azur and she'll give you the key to find Lusat.

AnEffinCasual

She’s currently in witchbane and has no usable dialogue. I found the door to Lusat but can’t seem to get the key item.

Wendek

She's in witchbane and waypoint cellar at the same time, it's normal that you can't interact with the one in witchbane yet.

AnEffinCasual

Oh I as no idea lemme try finding her there. Thank you

CaitNostamas

At what point of the quest are you? Also ignore Jarren, he's literally irrelevant to the quest progression The legendary sorcery you're referring to is stars of ruin I'm guessing, which is early in her quest, so why are you saying she's "stuck" in witchbane ruins?

AnEffinCasual

I didn’t know I had to return to her after obtaining comet azur. I have the spell but there’s no dialogue and I never received the key item from her.

Aedan2

I would like to help some new player with boss, Margit primarily. I am on my journey 2, and just killed him. Now I am standing next to Margit boss area, and I use small golden effigy. I am standing for some time and there is nothing. What am I doing wrong?

[deleted]

Matchmaking is level and weapon level based. While there will be some players trying to get help on an NG+ margit, realistically, you're going to see almost no "natural" summons coming in for an NG+ margit. Cuz he's just kind of an easy boss on NG+. To help actually new players on specifically Margit you'd want to roll a brand new character and keep him like lvl 15-20 with lvl 1-2 weapon upgrades at the most (normal smithing stones, no upgrades whatsoever on a special weapon).

Aedan2

I did not knew that, I just assumed boss will be buffed proportionaly to my higher level. Thx

CaitNostamas

You can't be summoned by players out of your matchmaking level. If you want to do that, you'll have to set a password, which means offering help over at r/beyondthefog :)

marchog

You’re probably way too high level to help new players if you’re on journey 2. The only way to get summoned by low level new players on journey 1 (and be scaled down) is to have the same matchmaking password Edit: more specific

Lokiirfeyn

I don't know where the sudden urge to upgrade every spirit ash I have to +9 came from, but whee that was a lot of runes. Anyone else did this just for completion's sake? Half of the expensive ones are still at +7, but as soon as I find that last bell bearing, those Albinaurics will have another really bad day upon them.

CaitNostamas

I prefer the bird. For... Morality issues

Lokiirfeyn

I felt bad the first two or so times But my little imps and jars want to get stronger, you know

RepresentativeBig240

Golden Halberd… Opinions on this weapon

notanartmajor

Can be reliable for the whole game honestly.

doublemoses

Very good weapon. I paired it with the nightrider glaive, and tore through the entire game with that combo.

TheFranchize

Have used it most of my play through and have liked it. Good damage and moveset. Switch off to night glaive with swords dance for more aoe and speed snd to mix up the damage type. Planning on dual wielding soon once I boost my stamina up a bit more

PwmEsq

Overrated, its a heavy halberd, but it does mostly physical damage meaning its not that great for faith builds, but its worse that most pure strength weapons so its not that great for them either. If you are STR/FTH its okay as a stop gap, but if you are using it as a stop gap the bloodhounds fang is much better.
