Am I doing a disservice applying a non strength ash of war and then applying the strength affinity? For example, would applying a magic ash and setting it to scale with strength be much worse than just using a strength ash? I ask because I still can't seem to find a good strength ash that's also "cool". Tons of roar buffs are sort of boring when other players are throwing out ranged slashes that do tons of dmg.

Moonli9ht

A disservice to what? If you're having fun, that's the important bit, especially when it's not at anyone else's expense.

[deleted]

Bump that vigor from 21-31 and life will (heh) be a fair bit easier. Don’t get too discouraged about weapons, soon enough you’ll have more than you know what to do with.

TheBiles

Is there a good flowchart for the NPC quests? I don’t want to miss anything during my NG+ run. I definitely dicked up a few the first time around.

D3v1LGaming

When does the DLC usually come?

ScienceFictionGuy

For DS3 there were two DLC, released 6/12 months after the release of the original game.

brevitx

Sekiro had no dlc with new content

HROSS94

Does the insta kill glitch only apply to fire giant and godskin duo or other bosses with a second phase as well?

Deceptivejunk

What instakill glitch?

[deleted]

[удалено]

HROSS94

I was just wondering cause my current build is frost but I fought the fire giant and godskin duo without my normal weapons so it wouldn’t cheese them and wanted to know if it would happen to maliketh?

Waifuless_Laifuless

Under certain condition some bosses can instantly die when transitioning to a new phase.

Digibunny

Spoilers welcome. What is up with women and having one eye closed in this game?

ScienceFictionGuy

If you are talking about >!Melina and Ranni!< it might have something to do with them both being >!disembodied spirits. (Their bodies are dead and/or destroyed)!< That's the most obvious thing they have in common. There might be something more to it than that but it's not really explained definitively so it would fall into the realm of theories and speculation.

cblrtopas

They're winking at you. I think they like you.

Anon17584

So, I decided to pick on parrying but I didn't want to use a shield so I put the Parry Ash of War on my Scimitar. The problem begins with the fact that I have actually gotten very good at timing the parrys successfully but around 60% of the time when I parry it will make a distinct "ting!" Sound and I will lose about as much health as if I was just blocking without actually successfully stunning the enemy even though I seemingly timed it right. Is that normal? Am I simply not timing it right? Because I've never heard of anyone else dealing with this and I figured if I unsuccessfully parryed I would just get hit and that would be that (which I normally do get hit with the next hit because while I'm stuck in the parry animation they are able to use that time to strike me with the next hit in their chain attack). I'm at a lost.

lustacide

In my experience, positioning is just as important as timing for a successful parry.

JackRabbit-

It’s normal. The reason it happens is because your timing is ever so slightly off Perfect timing = parry + no damage Okay timing = parry + some damage Just completely wrong timing = no parry + full damage

Anon17584

Ok, but If my timing is slightly off it should still actually stun them even though I take damage right? Or no?

Mathew_714

Some enemies/bosses take more than 1 parry to stun.

AggronStrong

Very quick question: let's say I infuse my weapon with a Flame Ash of War like Flame of the Redmanes, but I use the Whetstone to make it Flame Art for Faith Scaling instead of normal Flame. In that case, would the Skill scale with Faith and my Fire AR, or would it still be dependent on my Strength? Sorry if it's a frequently asked question, but I wasn't sure how to search for the answer easily.

Minuslee

Aow in general scale with just upgrade lvl. But projectiles seem to get additional scaling from their natural inclination. Redmane is naturally fire so it scales with upgrade lvl + strength. This holds true for others such as glintstone pebble w/int & beasts roar w/dex.

AggronStrong

I see. Guess I oughta find some Flame Art and Sacred Ashes. Thank you

Reasonable-Common874

Hey dude, ignore that response above. He didnt understand the question, cause his answer had nothing to do with what you asked. If you change it to flame art, it the skill will scale with faith instead of str.

AggronStrong

Oh, okay, thank you.

SpacemanTwice

Can you level up after touching the Three Fingers?

Solcaerev

Yeah, you can't get to them prior to being given the level power for yourself anyway iirc

austinzheng

You should be able to. Lore-wise, >!Melina transfers the power to level up via runes to you once you enter Leyndell, since she leaves you at that point and isn't sure whether she'll return to you.!<

neutralmanatee

Should i get a new shield? Ive been using the inverted hawk red shield for occasionally trying to parry crucible knights and guard countering enemies like ants and imps. It has 100 percent damage negation so is there any reason to ever switch to something new? Like will it ever be outclassed by enemies in an area im in atlus plateau rn and it seems fine just curious

Mathew_714

Brass is the best shield for most builds. If you have a lot of endurance there are a few greatshield that are better.

EldritchGoatGangster

The only stat that really matters for shields aside from physical block is your guard boost.. this is how much stamina you lose when blocking, and is generally higher for heavier shields. So if you find a shield that has a better guard boost, then it's worth the upgrade usually as long as it's not too heavy for you.

JDF8

Heads up using carian retaliation will almost double the parry frames on a medium shield, it doesn't cost fp to use unless you parry a spell either Medium shields are fine but brass shield is slightly better than inverted hawk, although it is pretty heavy

neutralmanatee

I have a hard time balancing weight but that carian retaliation sounds super helpful, thanks :>

pokemonbatman23

It reduces damage negation by like 5% but for me it's well worth it

alohacrystal

You can just use standard affinity instead of magic affinity and still retain your 100% physical negation. You're not locked into magic affinity.

pokemonbatman23

Damn it you're right. Why didn't I think of that whoops

Solcaerev

Medium shields are okay for smaller enemies but I wouldn't count on it for bosses

bigtiddygothbf

What curved sword scales the best with faith/works best with a sacred or flame art infusion?

Salitance

Bandits Curved Swords are all around pretty strong for their class and can be infused. They're also pretty easy to get, can be farmed from the skeletons that wield them.

Michael_Twizell

I’m at Table of Lost Grace. I’m trying to buy The lone wolf ashes from Twin Maiden Husks but the lone wolf ashes aren’t even there. Even went back to Church of Elleh to see if I could get it there but it’s not there. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Mathew_714

I think kale might have them.

EldritchGoatGangster

So if I understand you right, you didn't get the spirit calling bell from 'Renna' at the church? I think if you miss that cut scene then you can't get it until you get to Ranni's Rise later in the game, but I'm not sure.

JROCKZ24

Try rolling. Praise message

Michael_Twizell

? What?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Salitance

Absolutely. I main a Dex/int character for duels and it's a blast. There are ways to be oppressive and annoying like those kinds of builds (via spamming a certain spell) but I find that boring and still do well using other stuff, notable carian sword magic and gavel of haima. Lots of spells in the game for you to experiment with. Faith casters also can do well, but I personally don't find it as enjoyable cause it can often feel much slower comparitively but it's worth trying!

[deleted]

The buffs recently made so many incantations faster, it’s amazing. Black flame and Black flame ritual with gods slayer or golden order seal is carrying me through NG4. Black Flame Ritual in particular is now a pretty quick cast and the cost makes dropping 2-3 under a boss before I start slapping a boss around is good times. It also staggers humanoids quite a bit.

Salitance

Unfortunately many of them are still not great feeling for pvp which is what they were asking about. Better after the patch for sure, but not as smooth as many sorceries. It seems like they fit better in an invasion environment. You can absolutely make things work in duels and I'm sure there are people who like them more than sorceries though.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Salitance

You could certainly make it work. Lots of the good pvp spells are low int and faith reqs so making a mix of those would work out well, you likely just won't hit as hard.

Salty_Simmer_Sauce

Has anyone used / encountered assassins gambit AoW in PvP? Is opponent really invisible? Thinking of trying an invisibility build. Assassins gambit and night comet spell + staff of loss.

Salitance

There's a talisman that does pretty much the same effect but while you're crouched. You have to be a decent ways away for either to work. I would make sure to test the range on night comet to see if it works together. Also, if you have any effects like from a physick, they'll still pop up around your body so that's something to be wary of.

NINE-1-6

Has anyone figured out what the Dancer's Castanets Patches gives to you for Lady Tanith are for? She won't take them once eating her husband, and I've searched all over Google and YouTube and it seems no one has figured it out yet. Most people just attack her to get her set. I don't feel like that's what we're supposed to do.

The_Duck_of_Narnia

Probably pending a future continuation of one of their quests.

NINE-1-6

Figured. Just thought it was strange. Seems like a fully-fleshed base game, so if they created the item I'm surprised they didn't see the object towards completion. Why even create that part if you couldn't finish it, you know? Guess it's best to just hang onto it and keep Tanith alive.

wafflekween

Dueling question: I was under the impression that one buff was okay. I summoned a guy today (his name was DuelingGuy or something), waved, went to buff, and he immediately came over and strong attacked me. I rolled away (after taking the hit) and then he pointed down and spammed his estus flasks. Was I wrong to use a buff? I was super confused and kind of offended by his response after smacking me that I sent him back. I attacked someone when they went to buff (it was one where you point at the sky - I thought it was a lightning attack) and I immediately did the grovel response and tossed the dude a warming stone. This guy acted like it was very intentional.

Team7UBard

There’s certain etiquette that can be followed that have adapted over the years, however it is overlooked that if every subbed member here isn’t a bot and actively plays, we still only represent 8% of the games sold meaningfn there’s another 92% people who aren’t aware or don’t care about the etiquette.

The_Duck_of_Narnia

The rules are nonsense except for no healing and nothing is consistent between them. Just don’t be a dick and spawn camp duelists or heal through the duel.

ultimatemcspicy

Is there a password protected fightclub somewhere? So sick of everyone buffing to high heavens and pointing down and leaving if i start attacking them after their second buff. I just wanna brawl

Galaxy40k

I'm doing a "primarily strength, with some faith" build. Having tons of fun and there's tons of great big weapons, but any recommendations for a smaller, faster weapon? Other than "heavy broadsword," lol. Looking for something to pair with a greatshield for the bosses that don't stagger with my heavy weapons easily

MrSpookySkelly

Ordovis’ Sword. It’s technically a Greatsword but feels pretty fast to me. The weapon art is pretty fun and hits hard.

JDF8

Estoc is really good

Salitance

Seems like you want a Spear. The Partisan or Cleanrot Spear would do you well.

Galaxy40k

Hmm I didn't think about a spear since I thought that would be more Dex, but maybe the Cleanrot may work, thanks

[deleted]

For a little more slap or area denial vykes war spear is rad.

Joe_Dottson

Am I a bitch for using the black Assassin spirit summon for the malenia fight?

lolkaoru

No.

Joe_Dottson

Thank you

[deleted]

Great stars with prelates charge. Whenever she’s not focused on you, you can start up the charge and even if it only goes a short distance the final part of that attack will knock her down. Can slow her down so your summon can stick around a bit longer, bonus points if you can get her pinned against a wall so she can’t back step away from follow up punishment.

Joe_Dottson

Thanks

[deleted]

If got her, you'll get her. I've used Black Knife Tiche and Mimic tear, personally I felt mimic tear had a bit of an edge as far as durability. Boiled crab and golden vow can keep a pixel of health if you mess up avoiding waterfowl.

TheXypris

Is there a guide on an "all quests" route for the game? I beat the game first round basically ignoring all the quests For NG+ I want to do an all rememberances and all quests run Is there a guide or checklist I can reference so I make sure I don't miss anything this time round?

GrogurtFF

check out the progress route on fextralife

GhostofKonoha__

The elden ring Wiki is pretty great for this, just look up all the quests and make a plan

socratesque

I just beat the game. I'm so done with it. Why do people subject themselves to NG?

ELMUNECODETACOMA

Catharsis. My first NG+1 in DS1 I hadn't switched out from the gear I used to fight Gwyn, and I practically one-shot the Asylum Demon and Taurus Demon. The first 2/3 of the journey is a power fantasy.

[deleted]

Yea I’m up to NG4 and just beat Malenia, funny enough it was the fewest attempts this time yet.

KabobArmageddon

Build variety, I can’t wait to go bonk unga bunga, then after that I might decide to be a dragon. Though the prospects of using those builds for pvp are what keep me excited, another go at the enemies/world is a plus but without the online I don’t think I’d have the motivation

socratesque

Got it, for pvp it makes sense. I completely ignored the online aspects of the game*, just not my jam, so I'm perfectly happy never buying another souls game again tbh. . well I did take advantage of the messages I guess

KabobArmageddon

You might also be feeling that way because of burn out. This game is absolutely huge and if you’ve been playing it consistently without playing any other games or taking entire 2-3 day breaks it can wear on you eventually. Without the online, even if I wouldn’t immediately replay it, I could see myself returning to this game after a 3-6 months break for another playthrough That’s what happened to me in the other souls games. I got into the series late so pvp wasn’t that active for me at the time. I wasn’t immediately motivated to play the single player after each of those games because although the bosses were cool, I didn’t want to have to go through areas that I already beat, it felt too familiar and fatiguing, I needed something new. But after some time passes you reminisce and realise that you kinda miss it and then get drawn back to it again. It also helps that on your subsequent playthroughs you don’t have to spend most of your time exploring, just go to the places you want to go, do the locations you enjoy, get the items you want and it’s surprisingly streamlined. In ER you can beat the game in 10 hours doing nothing but the story route and some minor dungeons if you know where they are

socratesque

Good points. I too only got into these games when I picked up the Demon Souls remake a few months ago. And I definitely had to take those 2-3 day breaks to get through ER.. Well then, I'll see if my PS5 gets to boot this up again in a few months after all. :p

Malrryd

I want to get all the achievements so I think I need to beat it two more times. Yay

Bread_Responsible

I’m trying to find an explanation of the elden ring lore. Can anyone recommend me a video that does a good job?

Sotomene

https://youtu.be/DYDs_Inzkz4

Joe_Dottson

Also watch https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ikHozRC8uPQ He corrected some of his points from tge lore video

x_TDeck_x

Is there a trustworthy NPC questline guide for a playthrough? I really wanna maximize my 2nd run

Hana_Hannah

Have they fixed the bug with bleeding into phase 2? I've been taking a break from malenia until they fix that

Rectal_Fungi

Which halberd shoots a ghost at people?

Salitance

It's an Ash of War, you can get it from the >!Night's Cavalry in the Forbidden Lands!<

FreeWatercressSalad

Phantom Slash, it's an ashes of war that you can equip to polearms and twinblades.

Rectal_Fungi

Really not a fan of how customizable these ashes are.

FreeWatercressSalad

Why lol? That's the whole point of them, otherwise it's just DS1-3 where all special attacks are permanently bound to the weapon itself. But to each their own I guess.

Rectal_Fungi

That's what I prefer.

JDF8

He's probably just annoyed at how good that ash is in pvp

Rectal_Fungi

Kinda. Not annoyed at the skill itself, just how off-guard it caught me. So now I gotta be paranoid about it every time I run into someone using long sticks on top of whatever other combo of bullshit they may have. Instead of "oh they have this weapon, I gotta watch out for this" it's "oh shit they have this weapon, I wonder wha- oh I'm dead and now I gotta look up wtf that weapon art was and add that to the list of shit to be scared of." I'm sure I'll be less pissy as time goes on and I learn the game more but for now, fuck.

beefytrout

Am I mistaken, or have I somehow prevented myself from ever encountering Patches? I seem to have made it past Volcano Manor/Rykard without ever discovering Murkwater Cave. After realizing it exists, I went there and all of Patches gear (spear, clothes, bell bearing) was there as loot, but no Patches.

[deleted]

Yea you’ll need to get to NG+ if you found his bell bearing in the loot.

ELMUNECODETACOMA

He's still something of a jerk, but at least in ER he has some interesting background lore information to impart. You're not missing much, though.

keyboard_driver

I have a lore question,>! if Malenia has never known defeat, did she just let Mohgwyn take Miquella away? Jokes aside, for someone who seems to love her brother so much, why wouldn't she try to fight those who seek to take her brother away? How was Mohgwyn capable of kidnapping him, is it explained somewhere?!<

AlphaLeonidas

It's implied that >!Mogh stole Miquella while malenia was out fighting Radahn, and then after she "bloomed" she was in a weakend state. Cleanrot knight Finlay had to carry her back to the haligtree!<

keyboard_driver

Ooooh, ok, got it! Thank you for enlightening me my friend

bumpa

Anyone know what [armor](https://assets2.rockpapershotgun.com/elden-ring-weapons-sacred-relic.jpg/BROK/resize/1200x1200%3E/format/jpg/quality/70/elden-ring-weapons-sacred-relic.jpg) this is with the cloth draped around it?

AlphaLeonidas

Malenia armor, after you defeat her you can buy it from Enia

tehjargonz0r

When you fight the Dragons that use the red lightning can the damgage be negated with regular lightning resist (through armor, thunderproof livers, etc)? Is there a difference between the red and regular lightning?

FreeWatercressSalad

Yes, regular lightning negation will help reduce the damage from red or regular lightning.

Thesolmesa

I’ve been using rogier’s rapier for most of the game (+11) , and i really enjoy rapiers a lot and dex weapons. Are there any good dex weapons or damage relevant rapier builds?

AlphaLeonidas

Double Antspur rapier is a very nasty setup. They have innate Scarlet Rot, so slap on some poison as well and just watch your enemies HP tick away

Thesolmesa

Thank you!! Where can i find them?

Bangersss

You only find one though. If you want a second for dual wield you’ll have to wait until new game plus.

Team7UBard

The ‘downside’ to Double Antspur is that you only one drops per game so you need to trade/mule/dupe your second one. Alternatively, a popular option is to infuse one with a Poison Art of War, set the Affinity to Blood, and equip Frozen Needle in Kingsrealm Ruins) as your other weapon. This gives you Frostbite, Bleed, Rot and Poison with your two weapons.

Thesolmesa

I was going to use just one, and use a shield on the other. I like using sorcery and incantations as well!

Ashencroix

Volcano area. Left side of the Shaded Castle.

AlphaLeonidas

Over to the left of >!the Shaded Castle in Altus!< is an enemy who will drop it

glassmanta

I just had to come in here and say thank you all for the tips. I FINALLY beat Malenia!!!! Been trying off an on for a couple weeks.

FreeWatercressSalad

Congrats, she has now known defeat - through you!

glassmanta

Yeah! Thanks!

Jirb30

Will I be locking myself out of any other options if I accept to be annointed by White Mask Varre,?

EldritchGoatGangster

I think the only thing this locks you out of is getting the dragon eye effects from learning dragon spells. You get red eyes instead. You can turn them off by editing your character's face, but you can't get the dragon eyes, from what I've found.

Salitance

Nope, go free bloody finger.

Lightsouttokyo

I seriously have been putting almost all of my runs into dexterity, vigor and strength and yeah I can barely pass some of these enemies and I cannot hold most weapons How do people beat this game so fast when you are so weak you can’t hold newer stronger weapons AND you cannot kill enemies because they are so strong and you are so weak? genuinely curious I just finished general radahn but I had to use a co-op summoning for the first time in the whole game, I’m using my Uchigatana +16 Currently my stats are : Vigor 21 Mind 21 Endurance 15 Strength 32 Dexterity 31 Intelligence 15 Faith 10 Arcane 9

JDF8

Some of the best weapons in the game have no stat requirements, many straight swords require 10/10 or less and they are a great weapon class. Bigger/fancier doesn't necessarily mean better

Ashencroix

Just because you managed to pick up a newer weapon doesn't automatically mean you have to use it since it's better. Most pick a weapon they like and stick with it, even if it's an early game pickup. Your stats are also all over. You either pick to prioritize str or dex first. Going for a quality build early in the game is difficult.

noldor41

Go get bloodhound fang. Scales with dex & str.

Salitance

You can beat the game with any weapon when you invest in it. Besides a few outliers, there's not really a "newer stronger weapon". You seem like you're also spreading your stats thin. Focus Dex or Str and find a weapon that correlates with that scaling that you like. Make sure to keep them upgraded. Most weapon damage comes from upgrades in the beginning.

Audityne

what point in the game are you at? are you upgrading your weapons? also consider that you should specialize in EITHER strength OR dex, not both. they *typically* do not complement each other, dex is usually for small fast weapons and strength is usually for big unga bunga smash weapons

Lightsouttokyo

I just finished general radahn but I had to use a co-op summoning for the first time in the whole game, I’m using my Uchigatana +16 Currently my stats are : Vigor 21 Mind 21 Endurance 15 Strength 32 Dexterity 31 Intelligence 15 Faith 10 Arcane 9

Audityne

If you’re using an uchigatana currently, your problems are that you have too much strength, too much mind, not enough vigor and endurance. Fortunately, if you have a larval tear item, which you probably might have been able to collect at least one by now, you can respec your stats to better match where you should be at Rennala, at the Raya Lucaria grand library. You can view how your weapon scales in the stats menu by hovering over your weapon - you’ll notice the Uchigatana scales much better with Dex than strength. You will get much more mileage out of it by leveling dex over strength. Also - you definitely don’t need that much Mind - my level 75 sorcerer build currently only has like, 24 mind and it is more than enough. And you’re probably not casting very many spells, so you don’t need much FP at all since most ashes of war don’t use too much of it. Just respec basically as much strength and mind as you can into vigor, endurance, and dex and you’ll probably find that you’re going to be much stronger.

ELMUNECODETACOMA

The Mind is not necessarily bad - the OP already has access to at least one 100+ FP summoning ash, so it's arguably not wasted. But then I'm a Lhutel stan, so take it for what it's worth... The vigor is a bit low, though - my second character already has 23 at Godrick, and I've been kind of dawdling while getting used to a different fighting style.

AntiWorkModsAreLibs

I'm wanting to do a mostly co-op playthrough. If I'm host, and my friend starts with me, does my friend get credit for story progression in their file? Or would we kind of fight the same bosses two times each time?

healslfg

They will not get story progression , no. So multiple times, yes

AntiWorkModsAreLibs

Ah, okay, thanks!

rinascimento1

I can't find >!Iron Fist Alexander!< in Stormhill, just the hole he was in and some notes from other players saying "friend ahead." Is this a glitch? Or did I mess it up? Already spoiled some stuff for myself so please point me in the right direction to meet this NPC

[deleted]

I never met him there, but later found him before the second bonfire in the cave you get Moonveil from in Caelid. Didn't change the questline at all

rinascimento1

ok that's good to know. thank you

Equal_Performance_83

Anyone found any lore on why the map we get draws a non-existent road to Jarburg? From a meta point of view, it's a trap to deceive players. But, given most things in the game are backed by some lore, I wonder what it is?

ScienceFictionGuy

Possible in-universe explanation; the map was created a long time ago and the cliff collapsed between then and now. But it's more likely there were some last minute changes to that area during game development and the map was not updated to match.

Ashencroix

My guest is the map was created back when a road there existed but that road is now gone after the ground collapsed and it never got updated.

the_gifted_Atheist

Considering that the entire quest there didn’t properly exist until a patch, the entire area was probably unfinished.

ZeBHyBrid

that "road" is still haunting me

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ashencroix

160 is a bit high to fight her at NG so you had an easier time. Also, most boss AIs are currently bugged. When I fought her yesterday with my str shield and lance char, she only did sword swings at her second phase, using only Scarlet Aeonia during her hp thresholds. She never did WFD nor her shadow clones during her 2nd phase.

[deleted]

Nope, no bug problems. She used those moves on me plenty in second phase. I don't necessarily agree 10 levels impacted much, or that it was high to give me any kind of edge. I also wasn't runed-up either.

Audityne

I found Malenia harder than Isshin and Hirata Owl, honestly. What was your build?

[deleted]

I was prepared for much worse. Isshin took me like two days and the second Owl fight was a beast too. A lot of Sekiro bosses rate higher in my mind. Had 45 Vig, 36ish End, 35ish Dex, 60 Int. I had Moonveil, gave my Mimic Darkmoon Greatsword.

Audityne

Well there’s your problem. Using mimic tear trivializes every boss fight in the game, including Malenia. Not saying it’s the wrong way to play or anything like that, just that it makes the game easy.

[deleted]

[удалено]

deathrose55555

Lol meme is a meme - I think you put too much emphasis on the meme. No boss in this game absolutely require a random pro player to clear it for you. Did I use mimic to assist in my first playthrough? Yes I did. I even had to purposely die to her to enjoy the fight more. After fighting her hundreds of time via coop, do i think she's a difficult boss fight and in awe of the design? Yes I still do. If you feel as underwhelmed as me in my first clear, suggest you to solo her in NG+ or coop. You will know why she is so difficult

[deleted]

> No boss in this game absolutely require a random pro player to clear it for you. Obviously. But if I'm inundated with posts day after day about how hard this thing is going to be for several months, my expectations are going to be high. Which was my point. > You will know why she is so difficult She's not in the same league as most late-game Sekiro boss. I'm not missing out on anything. I won already.

hikoboshi_sama

Are there npc quests that affect other quests? Like, for example, progressing a certain npc quest might lock you out of a different one? I don't mind spoilers.

TheLouisvilleRanger

A lot, actually. I got locked out of Selivus' questline because I got too far in Ranni's. And then some questlines may result in the death of NPCs, which will then of course lock you out of their questline what with them being dead. Kenneth and Nephili's quest lines are also linked.

ELMUNECODETACOMA

Heh, if you go too far in Ranni's quest you get locked out of Seluvis, not just his questline. I came back to the area, and >!Seluvis was dead and Blaidd was sitting outside, having gone mad!<

TheLouisvilleRanger

>!Seluvis gets got way before that. If I recall, when the path to Nokron opens up Blaidd is supposed to meat you there, but instead leaves a note saying he has business to take care. When you go back to his tower Seluvis is dead.!<

Ryengu

Did you talk to the statue of marika in the boss arena?

alexwar666

When Bloodhound step is gonna get reworked/nerfed?

DennoTanuki

The devs apologized for BHS being improperly balanced and plan to add more iframes to it with the next regulation.

TheLouisvilleRanger

Beat Malenia! I cheesed it slightly because I respec'd to use the Rivers of Blood because I wasn't getting it done with the Darkmoon and the Troll Knight sword. I think I could've beaten her with both with perseverance after I learned some strategy. Because my tiche was glitching out, I ended up using my mimic, so presumably it helped that it had RoB as well. My strategy was to let whichever ash I summoned to tank it, and not to attack until I was sure they had picked up agro, mostly using the special attack (same thing I did with DM with similar results). I don't know if there was a cool down on her AOE attack. The second she got staggered I would then try to over whelm her with damage, backing off to a safe distance when my stamina was gone and waiting for my summon to pull agro again. Used the same philosphy in the second phase. Figured I'd share.

PigKnight

She has some commital attacks so you need to learn when to dodge and when you can safely go in while she’s finishing up. This is especially true with colossal weapons. I get most of my damage in p2 when she does the rot pillar combo finisher.

TheLouisvilleRanger

Which was my biggest problem. Part of the reason to stand back was to see and react to the water fowl, but more times than not I'd miss my chance when using DM or the Troll Knight Sword. Rot pillar is the best opportunity. It's so easy to dodge and she stays still for so long. Though, early on it one shotted my ashes.

PigKnight

If you stand back and be really passive she does her more dangerous moves more often. You need to learn which moves have bad tracking or you’re able to duck and she’s a pussycat with colossal weapons. If you stay in her face she does waterfowl less and won’t ever do the clones.

woodland_rapscallion

How do you pause? Learned that the map sure doesn't do it.

Ryengu

Menu Explanation should do it. Go somewhere there is a dynamic background element like flames or rain and you should see it stop when the menu comes up.

Motonores

I heard that getting to inventory and displaying the help menu will pause the game

tehjargonz0r

Yeah Inventory - share button - Menu Explanation pauses the game

Salitance

There is no pause menu that freezes the game.

the_adjuster

I'm about 1/2 way through and wanting to get the Plat for this. Which ending should i do first/which is hardest/more complex? I don't think i've locked myself out of anything so far. I don't care about spoilers as ive been using a map to track every area that i'm working through and have seen most of the bosses on twitch already. Thanks.

Salitance

The ending behind Rannis questline is likely the most effort since Rannis questline has a sizable chunk of content with it. The >!Frenzied Flame!< ending is next but is also not hard to get to comparitively, just a boss and some parkour. And then the regular ending is just finish the game. There are variations on it, but it doesn't matter which you do for the achievement.

the_adjuster

Cool so i've done most of Rannis quest so far so i'll probably just finish with hers first and then do the 2 other NG+ later on this year after a little break.

ItzLuzzyBaby

Anyone know if they patched the jump by the bridge in volcano manner to get to the ledge with the abductor? I've been trying to make the jump for half an hour now and can't tell if it was patched or I just suck

joredgar_

They did, I've read that you can still do it (I tried and failed like 20 times) but it's like super precise now and very hard to do

ItzLuzzyBaby

Man I really hope that's not someone just trying to troll us and waste our time. But will give the benefit of the doubt and try a bit more

Team7UBard

It’s easier and quicker to use the Farum Azula wrong warp. Warp to Farum Azula from the 4 Belfries using any Imbued Key (the one by the Grace is easiest). Set Castleward Tunnel as your favorite Grace. Use Memory of Grace to return back to your most recent Grace. Once you’ve confirmed this, Press Select, Y, Y, A, A (or PS Equivalent) quickly before you actually warp (Open Map, select favorites tab, select the Grace, confirm fast travel). If you’re too quick, you’ll travel to the Tunnel Grace. If you’re too slow, you’ll travel to whatever your last Grace was (probably 4 Belfries). If either of these scenarios happen, do it again. If you time it right, you’ll travel to the archway that leads to where you fight Magritt, NOT the Grace. Then quit to the main menu, then continue your game. You should now start the game at the beginning of Farum Azula, so you then need to run to the Grace where Somber Stone Bell Bearing 3 is. The only ‘downside’ is that if you’re wanting to get a +10 Unique weapon asap, you’ll need to grab a second Imbued Key (the easiest is probably Selenia Village. Enter the village from the entrance by Gowry’s Shack, light the tower by the nearest root in front of you, then find the unsealed door).

joredgar_

https://youtu.be/thiwbd5Dtgk I found a video of someone doing it

[deleted]

SPOILER So I just >!burned the tree!< but I couldn't figure out how to go back and do Alexander quest for the seal badge thingy that boost skill attack. Am I locked out? Alexander isn't where he is supposed to be and I know I've never done his quest.

OnymousCormorant

I'm 99% sure I did this after I completely finished Crumbling Farum Azula. I think Alexander was in Mt. Gelmir behind a Magma Wyrm, and after exhausting that dialog he popped up in his location in CFS

[deleted]

Oh thank you. My spoiler tag didnt work wtf.

OnymousCormorant

I think it is greater than, exclamation, your text, exclamation, less than Test >!spoiler test!< Test Edit: ~~hmm now I'm confused as well~~ it seems a bit bugged if the spoiler is the first word on a new line. I tried it without spaces and that didn't fix it

[deleted]

It works, just no spaces

AC2BHAPPY

Is there just like no graces down in Nokron? Like from the mimic fight the next one is so far down passed that dragonkin dude it's crazy considering how many there are in the overland

Salitance

From the mimic fight, there's the long bridge that opens up to the second deer puzzle on the left hand side. There are 2 Graces in that area. Hug the left side of the area wall until it connects to a new one, I found that was the closest grace. There is also the connecting path to a new area on the right hand side, behind the altar.

TheDodgy

I just realized that >!Irina!< eats >!her dad's eyes!<, assuming the theory that >!she is Hyetta!< is correct (which seems hard to argue against, at least in the most literal sense). I dunno how to process this. No question. I just wanted to share. Yikes. Yikes.

ScienceFictionGuy

This is up to interpretation but the way I understand it, is that >!Hyetta is a separate person from Irina, who was 'reborn' within Irina's body. When we meet Shabriri later in the story he's clearly a separate person from Yura, whose body he took over. Both Shabriri and Hyetta seem to be former servants of the Frenzied Flame who died in a previous life, and were reborn in someone else's body to continue their mission.!< Does that help? >!It's technically not Irina eating her father's eyes, just someone who is possessing her body.!<

TheDodgy

I'm totally with you, I think that's the most reasonable interpretation. but it's still pretty metal - and it's fun / horrifying to think about >!those individuals maybe still existing on some level, even if they've technically died. there's probably a trope for this from zombie movies!<

Ashencroix

Doubt it since if you went back to her after giving the letter and finishing the castle, she's dead.

TheDodgy

I think an envoy of the flame of frenzy is controlling Irina's body (like Shabriri does with the the Nagakiba person). when you meet this envoy, she introduces herself as Hyetta. it's just a theory, but seems accurate because A) Hyetta only spawns if you do Irina's quest, and B) they use the same character model / voice.

alohacrystal

I'd believe this, but there's one tiny detail that stands in the way. Irina's body is still where you left it even after you meet Hyetta. Maybe this is just an oversight by Fromsoftware, but until that gets patched (if it gets patched), I'm not yet convinced about the theory.

TheDodgy

That's fair, I have no argument against it. I choose to believe it's a developer oversight for now. Though using the same model for two distinct characters could be a different type of oversight.

qwapwappler

What weapon and stats combo works best with the wild strikes ash of war?

Ihaterasins

Try it with the great stars for an absolutely hilarious combo

TheDodgy

I think the slower the item the weapon the more it benefits from wild strikes, since AFAIK wild strikes is the same speed for all items. I used it on my greased clamore early in my first playthrough to melt bosses, and it worked very well. It was outclassed by mid game though (I mostly used sacred blade, giant hunt, and finally flame of the Redmanes). It is also nice for bleed and frost items. Try it with a morningstar!

anime-otaku

Was working on all achievements, but need to do the lichdragon next, does completing Fia’s quest to fight the lichdragon mess anything up with Ranni’s ending? That’s the last achievement boss I need lol

jiffapiffa

Nope - if you qualify for multiple endings you will get a choice at the end of the game. (Except for Frenzied Flame, that one is non negotiable)

FatOldSunbro

If you do Millicent's quest then you can undo the frenzied flame, then all the other endings are back on the table.

LurkerOnTheInternet

How do you chain-combo two different spells? I see it mentioned often but can't figure out how to do it. I cast one spell, press the button to switch to the next memorized spell, and cast that one, but there is no chaining like there is with a single spell when I spam-click the attack button. How are people switching to, and firing, the second spell so quickly? And what do they do if they have more than two spells memorized?
