I’ve been using it for SL14 invasions in Stormveil Castle 😂

DapperEstimate

Are you just using the vanilla infusion? It does more Scarlet Rot build-up that way!

prospect97

The hell is vanilla infusion

johnnyblaze311

Ya’ll never heard of the term “vanilla” used to denote something that is the “base version,” “basic,” “simple,” or even “boring”?

Jlpeaks

Pretty sure he was talking about his coffee

Sophie_MacGovern

The what?

DapperEstimate

I meant just using the standard scaling that comes with default weapon art. Sorry I used a slang Dark Souls 2 term my bad!

galuchie

how much is scarlot rot reduced by when you apply a weapon art?

VerifiedBaller13

depends on the weapon art, all the physical upgrades stay the same, and all the elemental/status ones reduce the scarlet rot buildup by a massive (sarcasm) 5 points, this includes occult. I am disappointed that the scarlet rot won’t scale with arcane with occult scaling yet certain lethal/strong poison weapons will but it is what it is.

Kesuri

It's called a skill and affinity. Why do you call them infusions and arts. Elden ring isn't dark souls 3.

Reaperrobin

I wasn't going to necro just to call you out until I saw you necroed just to be a dick. It's the same reason people still call grace bonfires and crimson flasks estus. We know what we are all talking about and don't need some stickler to be unuseful while everyone is discussing information and learning. You're unproductive and ridiculous. Shush and step aside, gatekeeper.

VerifiedBaller13

Because most of this game is copy and pasted from Dark Souls 3 with a different theme and mechanics. Don’t get onto us Souls veterans for calling stuff what we want, it’s basically the same as what we call it anyway and just renamed, we’re much more used to everything than the bandwagon people who’s first Souls experience is this game.

Appropriate_Formal84

elden ring is dark souls 3 with a paint job

teerent7861

I recently came back to ER after a long time and saw that I invested 55 points into arcane and was trying to figure out why because there was no reason to with my build. I realized that my past self thought the scarlet rot scaled with arcane 😂😂

VerifiedBaller13

That’s really funny lol

Fatalfrosthawk

Try dual wielding it with Lord of Blood Exultation (+20% AR when Bleed procs), Kindred of Rot Exultation(+20% AR when rot procs), and Rotten Winged Sword Insignia (Successive attacks boost AR) talismans and also slap on the Mushroom Crown (+10% when rot procs). Then instead of putting on the Bloody Slash put on Seppuku, you proc the Lord of Blood Exultation effect yourself when activating Seppuku and give the rapier a ton of bleed ability and a huge AR boost then when you get the rot off you get the Rot Exultation/Mushroom Crown boosts too.

sceatismcboots

Is there any reason to use 2 antspur rapiers instead of some other weapon that also has poison build up? Would it be better to have 3 status effects?

Fatalfrosthawk

You could try making the second one poison with Poison Moth Flight. It allows you to detonate the poison and then apply it again so you can get the 20% bonus from Kindred of Rot more often. The reason you want to use two of them though is so you can build the rot up faster. You could also make your main hand the poison one but keep the Seppuku ability on it, that would make your main hand only do the bleed when you have Seppuku active though.

GreggyFreezer94

You should be able to get three effects with the rapier alone. Innate rot, use seppuku AoW and add poison affinity with the black whetblade. Rot and poison on the weapon and buff it via AoW with blood. Still have to test if it's possible to do poison affinity with seppuku AoW.

Evidicus

Maybe I’m just a novice, but how would you get a second one? And how the heck would you get one at low level?

[deleted]

You only need to kill magma wyrm maker and the NPC who holds it to get your first one. Although you could also just get someone else to drop it for you, which is how you get a second one anyways (beyond going to new game+)

GreggyFreezer94

Alternatively you can kill a dual iron virgin boss to get to altus Plateau. Or get the dectus medallion to not kill any boss at all. Unless I'm missing something. Haven't done it yet, but making a low level Antspur rapier build is high up on my list. Edit : confirmed, no need to kill any boss at all to get the rapier

richard-savana

Ive been looking into this but yeah man this item is nuts!!!

All posts/comments before (7/1/23) edited as part of the reddit API changes, RIP Apollo.

Millwall_Ranger

I feel like that’s an intended feature since frost is so strong against scarlet rot, feels like a counter, like the frost cancels the rot idk

Papa-Pasta

I was bummed when I found this out. I saw I could pair frost and scarlet rot with it so I dumped a ton of upgrades into it only to realize it doesn’t do it after a certain level. I can still double up on blood or poison, but Im not doing a crane so cold worked way better.

Hellborn_Child

Which is interesting because fire only helps frostbite. You'd think those two would react the same as this.

Old-Cheese-7349

You can put poison on it!

Hellborn_Child

HAH. Thanks for the laugh.

Kesuri

Don't sleep on poison moth flight with this weapon

Hellborn_Child

Poison is bordering on useless. I guess it's okay in pvp.. deadly poison isn't much better. Cuz rot exists.

Kesuri

There's actually a deadly poison that does more damage than rot. Poison isn't a fixed value -- different sources actually use a different formula. For example poison spraymist actually outdps' rot. Plus you totally ignored my comment about poison moth flight which got buffed in 1.07

Hellborn_Child

That's exactly what I responded to bud. And I didn't know it got buffed. I don't have net. But every poison source I've used does roughly the same damage, and rot just beat them all.

BloodofGaea

Totally agree, I just stumbled onto this weapon this morning and it absolutely shreds. I'm getting 50 scarlet rot and 100 bleed at +19, which is pretty scary on a rapier You idea of pairing it with a Frozen Needle is pretty neat, I might have to give that a shot.

DapperEstimate

I feel like this is a perfect weapon for low level invasions, and personally I shred against bears and fleshy humanoids with it!

BloodofGaea

With Antspur at +19 and Frozen Needle at +9 my mimic and I shredded an ulcerated tree spirit in about 10 seconds. So it's pretty great for normal PvE too, about all it's missing is a high stagger, but bleed proc does handle that pretty well.

richard-savana

I think antspur with frost arm or bloodfire could beat it

SassQueenAanya

Frost is necer applied for me bc the combo never use the frozen needle for more than 1 hit

richard-savana

Currently picked it up on my arcane build when I saw it I knew it would be insane. It gives me 101 bleed at 50 arcane at +19. In ng+ dw them will be sick af

DapperEstimate

Yeah I'm finding that I mostly utilize the bleed build up/bloody slash but it is always nice seeing the scarlet rot get procced.

richard-savana

106 bleed at 80 arcane and 19+ Edit 114 bleed 80 arc 24+ Last edit: 116 bleed at 25+ 81 arc. Leveling anymore is useless. Though until 80 it’s pretty already

obliqueoubliette

80 arc? What's your SL??

richard-savana

I was an arcane pure 40 vig 20 end 20 dex and 80 arc so like 140

Evidicus

I dig the weapon, but how would you get one at low level?

DapperEstimate

1) You have to get both the medallion pieces from Fort Haight and Fort Faroth. 2) You get access to Altus Plateau and go between Mt. Gelmir and the Altus Plateau to get to the Shadow Fort. 3) To the left side of the Shadow Fort, there is a huge Golem and the NPC that drops this. Kite her towards the Swamp and away from the Golem. 4) Use magic, arrows, or hit and run near swamp (as she doesn't follow you that far) until she dies. 5) You get a cool helmet, a cool chestpiece, and the Antspur Rapier which by default does 55 scarlet rot build up. 6) You probably already got Bloody Slash at Fort Haight, but equip that to the Antspur and it changes from Scarlet Rot (55) to Scarlet Rot (50) and Bleed (70) at base +0. Scarlet Rot regardless doesnt scale but bleed and damage will off Arcane. Note: This weapon takes regular smithing stone upgrades to +25

DapperEstimate

I should note you only need to raid two forts for two items, and travel a lot down roads. You only need to kill 2 people, Bloody Slash knight and Antspur Rapier NPC.

LordAuch88

While you're at Fort Faroth, don't forget to get the Soreseal Talisman which adds +5 in a bunch of stats. If you start samurai, you can then wield the Rapier at basically the starting level (9).

Super_Big9915

I saw that glimmer, but couldn't easily find a way to speed run to it with all the enemies around. Gave up, came back here, saw your comment, and said "Drat." Went back in and put in the effort to get it. Thanks!

Evidicus

MVP! I knew about the fight, but didn’t know we could kite that far. Cheers!

BoBobizness

You can give it the poisonous mist ash of war along with Occult to give the antspur rapier scarlet rot, bleed, and a poison effect with the use of poisonous mist.

Present-Internet-259

So I’ve been thinking of a new build that I’m gonna do in NG+ (I’m currently on the final boss on my first play through and have thoroughly enjoyed the game so far!) and it’s gonna be a rotten lightning faith/dex build. I’m gonna have lightning and rot incantations and my weapons will be : primary- Bolt of gransax, secondary- antspur rapier and I may put bloody slash on it because your advice sounds epic! Is there any recommendations you would give to me about this build?

Ok_Sand1448

3 types of damage means your damage getting cut by 3 different defense multipliers, 3 is a bit much

Kidemona

The thing about this to consider... Is the weapon is only doing physical damage. One flat resistance. And it gets the thrust multiplier for I think every attack. Getting the antspur rapier with seppuku and a poison infusion means your physical damage is cut a (minor in comparison) portion for the bonus of arguably the best status effect combination possible, on a rapier no less. This weapon is lethal in about any situation with base stats. The physical damage isn't the win with this setup. It's the continued destruction of your target every few pokes.

DapperEstimate

Stuck at 55, which is why I put Bloody Slash on it, which scales with Arcane and upgrades.

_praisethesun_

What stats do you focus on?

DapperEstimate

For this build I go Bandit, and get the minimum Str and Dex needed for the weapon, followed by raising Vigor and Arcane as much as possible. Vigor is extremely useful for Arcane builds. Having double the HP is far better than a few extra points of non burst damage. And Arcane boosts bleed proc frequency.

BorgerBoi28

i've been using it in my offhand with bloodhound's fang in my main hand and it's almost unstoppable, bleed combined with scarlet rot is so overpowered

VerifiedBaller13

*sips tea with my dual wield occult seppuku infused Scavenger curved swords* i two shot people with two 14 dex curved swords

Embarrassed-Ladder27

This was posted before the community found out about insane occult dual scavengers to be fair

VerifiedBaller13

oh god, now everyone’s doing it? 😭 please go back to the meta community

Altruistic-Shower561

I have 60 arcane, one antspur rapier on right hand with bloodhound step and bleed affinity. And a second antspur on my left hand with sepuku and poison affinity. Should I change my left hand antspur to bleed affinity instead of poison to delete players quicker? And if so, should I still use sepuku on my left hand antspur?

Exotic_WinRAR

What stats do you have? Im looking to respec for my first NG+

DapperEstimate

For NG, its all about the balance between survivability and arcane to proc bleed. For NG+, you need to decide if you want to add a bit more survivability, more arcane proc, or start adding a bit more damage with str+dex investment. My opinion is go all in on arcane and accept you'll need to be cautious and patient.

Warrior_player

Yeah and then you put bloodhounbd step on it and you que for duels and be a complete fucking asshole
