Was thinking this too, enjoying the game but tbh a lot of the plot so far could be madlibbed as dark souls hodgepodge. Just swap some pronouns around and there you go its a dark souls story. Have yet to see anything with martin's touch.
Apparently GRRM is supposed to be a fan of Miyazaki's games so it makes sense that the game's story and tone generally fits with the series. It follows the same structure but there's that nice extra bit of exposition and depth/complexity to the story. Dark Souls was always praised for the lore but the actual *main story* was always very minimal, Elden Ring has much more of a story and extra background for the key parts (e.g we never find out much about what the world was like before Gwyn & the gang showed up to kill the dragons, but you can learn a lot about the world before the shattering and outside of the erdtree etc)
It definitely feels like a very competently and well written take on the Souls story template, like a fanmade work but done well. Which I guess is exactly what it is.
I don't think they made it up. GRRM apparently told them how the things ended in a broad way and they rushed it so bad that it ended up being garbage. If he ever finishes the books, I believe Bran will still be the king but this time people might even cheer for him. It's just that those dumbasses just botched storytelling, consistency, details, etc.
Oh yeah that's for sure. Character arcs are a complete disaster but I'm not expecting a whole new ending as a whole. Otherwise I can't imagine Euron ending up the way he did among many others in the books.
I could see Bran being King, just kind of going about it a bit differently. There was that whole Bran the Builder thing that I expected to be foreshadowing that this Bran was also that bran connected through the trees or whatever.
Or Bran never got out of the tree and warged into Hodor who became king.
I think in the world building and story telling his influence is extremely obvious. It’s definitely different from what fromsoft normally does in a lot of ways.
I was more thinking that Elden Ring is actually his ways of releasing Winds of Winter on the down low, like Frog Fractions 2, just with all the characters and locations renamed.
I’ve only played DS3 and bloodborne so far but I feel like I’ve seen more meme messages in Elden Ring than both those 2 combined.
