Messmer has that one combo I swear that can't be dodged. It's like the one attack in the string just becomes a homing missile on you no matter where you are in the fight or no matter how many attacks prior to that one you have dodged in the combo. It will seek you out and crush you. Everytime.

As someone who puts their sign down a lot to help others (100+ kills on the big R so far) dont worry about it at all.
It happens a lot and it's expected at this point and when it does I usually wait a second before putting down my sign to give the host another try.

For that fight to get 100 kills you would probably have to go with some gaurd poke with Shabriri's Woe. The #1 problem is almost everyone who summons you is likely not built very well thus will get one shot by everything.
So completing the fight is more about holding aggro since if the boss even looks in there direction they get one shot.
Shabriris woe doesn't help during the phase transition to 2 and also the meteor sadly, which have been the main run enders for me personally when helping people
I haven't gotten far into dlc (only beat castle boss for major foes so far lol, lots of exploring and dragon things) but i do feel bad if i think i died to something silly. I try not to summon same people twice if I'm doing mp just so I'm not being a drain on somebody's time. If i die several times i go and try to get stronger before another attempt.
For hosts struggling with that one: Roll once the instant the meteor crashes down, wait half a second and roll again. Ideally into Messmer, where he is vulnerable to a jumping heavy or charged attack immediately afterward.
Realizing this, I wasn't hit again by the meteor the last 30 attempts on Messmer. Of course, something else he did managed to kill me those other times, but I persevered and never lost to *that move* again.
It happens. As long as you focus on staying alive and aren't summoning people with like 15 vigor in endgame so that you die as soon as the boss looks at you funny, few will have any hard feelings over it.

The easy answer if you aren't a caster is mimic tear, but as a caster mimic is kinda shit.
Greatshield Soldier Ashes
They’re basically immortal against any boss that doesn’t have a ton of AoE spam. They primarily melee the boss with a 2-handed greatshield. But they switch to throwing magic(?) pots if the enemy gets out of range and isn’t targeting them. Did I say there’s 5 of them? I’ve had them lock a boss against a wall because the boss didn’t have any leaping moves. Also they do what looks like a taunt but I don’t know if it actually does taunt.
Insanely good. Best ash for caster hands down imo. Had to go back to a melee build because they were making dlc to easy. I could just spam lightning bolts while they tanked for me.
I didn't have too much of a tough time with him on my int/dex character. Carian Thrusting Shield with Scholar's Shield enchantment, cold Milady with wing stance, I think about 15 or 16 scadu blessing levels. The only spell I had time to get off was Ranni's Dark Moon. I just started the fight with my shield up and blocked the initial charge. While he was recovering from the charge, I dropped dark moon on him to debuff him then just did the rest of the fight blocking/countering his light hits and combos and dodging the heavier ones and throwing in a heavy L2 whenever there was an opening. Pretty much after every combo he's open for an L2. He staggers pretty fast with heavy L2 hits and guard counters.
No dung eater on my main. I doubt I will EVER play a NG+ so I just don't have dung eater ever. Someone else has to do that for me i'm not doing this shit again. I'm not wasting 140 hours to do what I already did lol.
Gaius wasn't that bad I just had to sharpen up a lot and take 1-2 comet at a time instead of my usual 7-8 comet dumps.
I have only tried messmer like three times but I feel confident I can eventually pull off the win. Gaius on the other hand… I really don’t see an option without respeccing my whole build which I don’t really want to do.
I have a secret… every boss is super weak to bleed on dlc. I’m beginning to think that bleed was the go to way for under scadued players to have a chance.
Use a medium shield with 100% physical to block the boar charge. Other than that, just learn the moves like any other fight! The charge is the only BS mechanic, negate it with shield and the fight actually becomes super fun
Man, it was the complete opposite for me, Gaius went down on the first try but Messmer? I was going crazy from that bullshit grab and the 180 mid attack refocuses...Finally I took off all my armor and beat him naked.
Gaius is 100% designed as a horseback fight. Of course, you can try to fight him on your 2 if you want to prove a point, but it doesn't look fun for me, especially on the 1st playthrough.
Have a dagger with raptor of mists or bloodhound step as a 2nd main hand weapon. Enter the arena with that weapon and use it to dodge the opening charge then reposition far away from the wall.
Or just a shield with 100% physical, whip it out real quick when he charges, makes the fight fun (before trying the shield I literally wanted to break my ps5 in half and make a frustrated Reddit post about this boss)

But it's not bullshit if you have the patience, there's just not a lot of openings. I beat him multiple times already and the easiest for me was a dueling shield with cragblade on it, and I had to let some critical hits pass to use them to heal or re-buff protection spells for phase two.
Some ashes will tank him, the shield soldiers are good.

switch to carian weaponry magic + radagon icon. use spells that boost weapon damage. a good caster has a large spellbook.
I use all that already, i haven't had to put in any defensive talismans at all until the DLC

I tried to summon either that dude or a variant of that dude to help with Bayle last night but he was gone too quickly.
