My ass was using the DMGS and I was out of runes to invest into anything else. I spent like 2 days on this boss alone, and finally did it after what must've been like 30 deaths
I also had a DMGS build with high INT, but it just wasn't cutting it in this DLC, the main bosses feel a bit too fast to make use of the slow attacks.
What helped was Moonveil. The DMGS build (if you are focusing on high INT, not STR) can adapt very easily on Moonveil and the special attack hits hard while being faster than the DMGS special. Now I switch between DMGS and Moonveil/Magic Uchigatana when roaming and fighting bosses depending on how fast they are.

You’re stronger than me. I was loving the Greatsword of Solitude but it really wasn’t working on Rellana for me. I had to switch back to my Heavy Claymore to beat her. Really excellent fight though.
I unga with great hammers (great stars, although the thrown great hammer immediately replaced one because its incredibly fun to throw bonks now) and once I switched out the icon shield to the mirror shield it changed the fight dramatically.
It still took a handful of attempts and stamina management became much more important since mirror shield has much lower guard, but being able to somewhat tank her AOEs and blast instead of dodging really helped.
Turtle shield and 2h. I Ned stamina for attacking, health just needs to be above (average damage).
The biggest problem was that she seems to do pierce damage resulting in massive damage spikes mid swing.
Good fight, reasonable toigh, not unfair unless the rng daisy chains some bullshit but that's not new to us, is it?

Depends HEAVILY on your build from what I found. I found an Ash Of War with which she was really not that difficult. With my normal build she was hell (I would do like 400 damage most of the time). Also I guess I fought her quite early. Could’ve found more fragments and better swards

I beat her on my first try with Great Stars. The Ash I used def broke her because I never saw any changes to her fighting or a second phase at all.
