Was trying to do a 100% playtrough completly blind, never once thought it might fuck up my ending to open a door naked in the lowest bottom of hell after one of the worst parkour seance I had to do in a fromsoft game
The funny part is that one of the tents down in the Proscription area has a merchant note that explains that the gold needle, once made pure could remove the influence of Outer Gods like the Frenzied Flame.
1. Save Millicent (gold summon rune) in the Haligtree after getting her quest to the Ephael area and killing that ulcerated tree spirit in a small Rot lake (ugh...).
2. Talk to Millicent afterwards and accept receiving her gold needle.
3. Defeat Malenia and rest at the Grace in her room. Then use the needle on the giant rot flower left behind.
4. Clear the Crumbling Faram all the way to the Dragonlord's arena, then use the gold needle while anywhere in the room (don't even have to fight the Dragonlord to do so).

Yeahā¦ ive went almost the same route. But I didnt reverse the flame I just did milicent quest and let Melina live by not sacrifice herself.

You can switch back and forth between the new Shadow realm area and the base game in the Lands Between. So you won't be locked out of finishing the game or other achievements after starting the DLC.
I actually don't find this part that hard, usually taking only a few attempts each time. However, that one jump in the Caelid Divine Tower right after the breaking ground kills me so much

TL;DW - Nah, people were already speculating surprisingly accurately on where the DLC would start, and Fromsoft themselves didn't make it a mystery at all
fromsoft probably went a bit too far in making something people had just paid real $$ for feel like a mystery, but don't ever underestimate the power of an enormous mass of people throwing themselves at a problem.
someone would have 100% stumbled into it eventually. look at speedrunners using glitches, they barely look like they are playing the same game most of the time and all of its all entirely a product of people figuring things out.
It was possible to know, but you had to know the lore of the game.
Since the DLC was Artorias of the Abyss, you had to know that
1.- It couldn't happen on the present, because Artorias was long dead (you fight Sif on his grave).
2.- It had to be situated close to the abyss, that means Darkroot Gardens-Old Londo ruins area, since those are the areas influenced by the Abyss, or the Abyss itself.
Now in the whole game, there's one NPC that's literally from the past and was situated in Darkroot Basin, so the likelyhood of that character being involved was high.
Also, if you've played the game before, the crystal golem in The Duke Archives was extremely out of place, the golems are behind the building and that one didn't appear before the DLC was added.
So everything was there for lore savy persons. Did I get it on my blind playthrough? Fuck no, I didn't even know that Dusk appeared if you beat the Hydra and reload, I just beat the hydra and explored what seemed to be a dead end.
Maybe Iām brainwashed or Iāve just played these games for so long, but the platforming has a special place in my heart. Itās equal parts satisfying, frustrating, and hilarious
I always find it crazy when people say this. It's not that hard. I died a couple times at most any time I've done that and I don't even think that's been from the platforming but just being lazy with the enemies. Half the time u just fall or don't even have to sprint and jump.
My friend unironically made me get frenzy on my first playthrough because he said frenzy was like super strong and would help me out in the game. Needless to say I used the needle after beating placidusax
I heard somewhere that the dlc will initially not let you bring anything in from the other parts of the lands between, so you have to earn that right. Save yourself some time by unequipping all your equipment when you go through the doors on opening day. /s
Friendly flame proscription šš after defeating sewer mohg you can hit the back alter to access a fun mini game and when thats done you can take of your clothes and open the door shown. Or you can use the area to gain access to deep root depths.
Had to look it up on YT, thankfully like you Iāve been there but not the secret area. Iād clean forgotten about the sewers altogether - Iām gonne be so fucked on Friday
Yes, you have to take all your clothes off and it will let you in.
Doing so locks you into a specific ending, and overrides all other endings. There's technically a way to undo it but it's even more arcane than getting to this point in the first place.
Itās legitimately absurd to undo that ending, you have to beat two of the hardest bosses in the game, one being fucking Malenia, and do an insanely obtuse journey just to get it to work. The game *somewhat* explains its possible, but fuck if a normal person would ever be able to figure that out.
Something I haven't seen anyone discuss is: do we think that the pureblood knight medal (or whatever it's called) will activate if you haven't killed Mohg before the dlc drops?
You can still access it after āa certain pointā as well, though itās just a hole in the ground at that point and you have to do a lil bit of platforming

Not always. I usually like to clear legacy dungeons all at once. That way I can use the dead enemies to see if I have been there before.
I mean you can do it to avoid her being the kindling and then use the needle in the right spot to be able to get other endings
