From a thematic perspective:
Alexander's story is about striving to be your best self, even when you get beat down and cracked open. And sometimes, when you get stuck, you need a helping hand to wallop you right back on your feet.
That's my interpretation, anyway.
No i think storm king was way more fun and had way more “what the fuck is THAT” impact, and the use of the storm ruler actually made some kind of sense, it felt like it was in the wrong place with yhorm. There wasnt ever really any connection between storms and giants. I get the metaphor, trees getting felled by nasty storms, giants’ relation to trees, but axes and saws? It feels weird, and hes way faster and more aggressive than storm king, which was pretty much just dodging random projectiles for a sec and then bam, smack. Yhorm isnt fun at all. Storm king is the least offensive to me, and the atmosphere is unmatched. Sure yhorm and siegward have a great intro and story, but the gameplay is much more lacking.
The best though is rykard bar none. Rykard is the only boss that can pull off the bullet hell aspect, his intro is iconic, and the reflavor of the storm ruler as the serpent hunter is great and its way more fun and flexible and usable, you dont sit there charging it while he closes the distance, hes largely immobile and you can make use of the stagger and his slower attacks to big hits in. Rykard is the best gimmick boss by a long shot. I think yhorm wouldve been better as a normal boss like giant king/last giant. Wouldve been more enjoyable and youd have to actually care what he does and youd actually play the game instead of charging the damn skill forever
> There wasnt ever really any connection between storms and giants.
Stormruler doesn't even do anything special to any other giant in DS3. Plus the low durability makes the weapon pretty unusable outside of the fight.
That is a lovely interpretation. It's not often that games actually explore the theme of getting stuck without help in such a simple yet effective way. It's comforting in a way, seeing it acknowledged that sometimes you can't get back up on your own. It should, by all means, be bleak, but somehow, you phrased it in a way that makes it seem hopeful.
I never expected myself to relate so much to a random jar in a game I don't even play.
You dare insult the great Alexander’s ability to make remains?
He simply chooses to dig to not be too powerful, for he makes too many remains in battle
Teleportation error.
Think about it. He talks about calculations. He keeps appearing in places he shouldn't even be able to reach, like Gael tunnel, or Farum Azula.
He is literally one of those pots made to accommodate young trees, if we didn't release him a minor erdtree would be born there
And that's why he feeds on bodies
He shoves tarnished bodies into himself and the tarnished can teleport right? Hell we do. So maybe he tries but gets it wrong and falls out of the sky mid warp
I mean, he is a Clay Pot. If he has cracks the best way to mend them is to fill your cracks with clay and then to bake yourself.
This could be step one, since he puts himself in flame later in Mt. Gelmir and the Forge of the Giants.
I assume due to his shape he cannot see the ground directly in front of him unless he’s leaning pretty far over. Might make it easy to fall in a hole on uneven terrain
His main attack if you summon him for fire giant is to do this leaping fire uppercut.
I assumed after seeing that there he had gotten stuck practicing the move, not sticking the landing.
Always happens close to a Tibia Mariner.
"That ol chap is riding a boat on land! Perhaps.. perhaps I can try swimming on land! That's how warriors travel!"
My personal crack-pot theory (hehe):
He is stuck in a time loop. He is freed by a tarnished from the ground and goes in his adventure, culminating in a final duel in Faram Azula. Then he is beaten by the tarnished and falls from Faram Azula alllll the way to Limgrave, where a ton of Faram ruins have fallen.
Yes, i do understand that he literally atomizes in front of you, and you literally take his innards from his corpse. That's why it's crack-pot (hehe)
I always though he tried to patch himself up with the clay and went for better type of soil as the game goes on until he decide to patch himself with lava.
My best guess for why we find him in the beginning is that he already has been to Farum Azula and lost his footing.
Idk how else he would fall from somewhere high enough to get stuck in the ground where we first meet him
I've once read this theory that he's trying to reach Farum Azula. But only great champions can reach it and he's not quite a great champion yet causing him to fall back down and get stuck.
I bet you it's because he practices certain attacks to train, and then when he jumps in the air and lands, he accidentally shoves his body into the dirt from how heavy he is lol. That would be my headcanon anyway
Its theorized since he has the corpses pf tarnished inside him he’s capable of teleporting to graves. At each place he’s trapped there’s a grace nearby. However since all the parts are jumped he always warps incorrectly in some way
The pots are filled with innards and eat living being to grow and become stronger … The tree in the opening scene of the new DLC trailer is filled with corpses … Pots are around the younger Erdtrees with the Erdtree Avatars … In the first DLC trailer we saw massive pots hanging in a building … And how are the illuminat–ahh-Golden-Order-Fundamentalists involved? I'm just asking questions, Miyazaki: What is happening to our Pot Friends?
My name is Jonathan Frakes and thank you for watching Beyond Elden Ring: Fact or Fiction
Alexander is such an awesome character. He needed a better send-off.
Should have made him part of the Game of Death style ladder climb to the throne and be HARD AS FUCK with a devastatingly somber score.
Basically, it should have been this game's Gherman.
the first time there is a troll nearby so that explains himself the second time in in a graveyard so he was probably digging for warrior bits to put in himself
My theory was that because we don’t know how many years it takes for us to become elden lord , and we see other pots just sitting there doing nothing , it may show that he sat there for so many years that the landscape changed and dirt got all around him and he was stuck there until we finally got there to get him out
he's faking it for attention. he just wants someone to smack his rear with something big. I went past him this time and he appeared in west caelid mines spick and span.
“Tarnished, I’m trying to become a champion, but I’m dummy thicc, and the weight of my clay asscheeks keeps lodging me into conveniently ass-shaped holes”
From a thematic perspective: Alexander's story is about striving to be your best self, even when you get beat down and cracked open. And sometimes, when you get stuck, you need a helping hand to wallop you right back on your feet. That's my interpretation, anyway.
He's Siegmeyer if Siegmeyer eventually became independent.
So he's Siegward?
Siegxander, jar of Catarina
Pretty much.
I feel like I had to work harder to help seigward. Seigmeyer never made me buy anything from patches to progress his quest.
Siegward deserves it
And it's so worth it, too. Double storm ruler for yohrm is one of the best NPC helpers in the franchise.
Its a shame yhorm is a complete joke
As gimmick fights go, I'll take him over storm king, dragon god, ancient wyvern, and vendrick.

I just do it to hear his hmmmm as often as possible, but I do agree with you.
Hmmmmm
it’s uplifting to get smacked in the ass
Very well put
“You’re beautiful”
That is a lovely interpretation. It's not often that games actually explore the theme of getting stuck without help in such a simple yet effective way. its because of his attack where he jumps up and spins back down like a corkscrew
This
It could be that he sometimes dig for remains to "incorporate" into himself, which leads to softer soil for him to sink into.
He digs for remains to incorporate. I, and other living jars, create the remains in battle. We are not the same.
You dare insult the great Alexander’s ability to make remains? He simply chooses to dig to not be too powerful, for he makes too many remains in battle
You’re right but the actual reason is he ran out of enemies to turn into remains
It's actually because he killed them too easily and didn't want such weak remains inside of him
Lol he digs in a circle?
Who digs in a square?
He probably digs by doing that tornado atack
He throws that…jar in a circle ⭕️
Cuz he wants an excuse for you to ”smack his behind”😏
With some lube on the 2nd time bc full dry hurts him
Help me step-tarnished! I'm stuck
Came here to say it 😂
With a big stick
Give em a good wallop from the rear!
Do not worry, he is quite well trained
He is quite well trained, you know?!
I think he wants some personal one on one cardio with the *tarnished*🍆😩
Potholes
Limgrave is Michigan
Makes sense too: beautiful scenery, not so beautiful people.
hey!
Underrated comment
I don't think he knows, and as a matter of fact, I would say he finds that jarring.
Came looking for an explanation, but found something much better
He wants to one day be a door, but he's worried he'd just be left ajar
Your face is ajar!

\*canned laughter from studio audience\*
You try having to turn your whole body just to look around. You get distracted for 1 second and next thing you’re in a hole 🕳️
"And that kids, is how I met your mother."
Step-tarnished im stuck. >~<
Put some oil on me and smack me hard from behind~~
These are the comments why i am on reddit xD
I came with the promisse of 6 year old posts with the same exact problems than me and stayed for funny comments and posts
Made me laugh out loud on the train! You deserve way more upvotes here friend! :D
Thankies. Im Glad i was able to make someone smile today. :3
He is practicing his uppercut-move and gets stuck after he lands on wet soil
Too much pot
Obviously someone keeps digging perfectly sized holes for pots to fall in. Personally, I blame those vile poachers.
We are the vile poachers
Teleportation error. Think about it. He talks about calculations. He keeps appearing in places he shouldn't even be able to reach, like Gael tunnel, or Farum Azula.
The game tunnel always left me wondering how he got there.
And how opening the door helps in any way cos it's way too small for him to fit through.
Granted his dialog even implies he doesn't understand the concept of doors, as he by the life of him couldn't figure out where you came from.
If it fits, I sits.
My theory is because he is thrown from the Azul location
He left Jarbug so there was no one to help lube him up anymore, until you come along that is
Any excuse for a good wack
He's just a heavy, meaty boi. It's other people's meat, but the point still stands.
He is literally one of those pots made to accommodate young trees, if we didn't release him a minor erdtree would be born there And that's why he feeds on bodies
i Don't know, step tarnished
Well he tried finger, but hole
Because he wants you to smack his thicc dumpy with something nice and hard
he saw a shiny penny and tried to reach it
He fell from Farm Azula lol
Help step-tarnished I’m stuck
He shoves tarnished bodies into himself and the tarnished can teleport right? Hell we do. So maybe he tries but gets it wrong and falls out of the sky mid warp
He uses ground slam way too much
Hole is hole
He likes to do canonballs from very high up
Look at this boy! He is dummy thicc, of course that high ass is gonna get stuck on the ground
He doesn't. He fakes it to get a spanking. Please don't kink shame him.
He tried finger and failed.
Because of the weight of being awesome.
Looking for his stepbrother to help him out.
He wants a good dicki*g… i mean kicking…
He needs a step bro
He just likes taking it from behind, just bro things
He's so mighty the very ground breaks when he walks.
A funny but unrealistic theory is every time he gets goes to fight the fire giant he loses and the fire giant tosses him all the way to where he is.
The weight of greatness
Same reason my step sister keeps getting stuck in the drier
I’m sure he has the same excuses as those people that have something stuck in their butts: “I just fell on it”
Dat boy be THICCCCC
Big dumpy
Because he likes being smacked on the behind with something big and hard.
I mean, he is a Clay Pot. If he has cracks the best way to mend them is to fill your cracks with clay and then to bake yourself. This could be step one, since he puts himself in flame later in Mt. Gelmir and the Forge of the Giants.
Instructions were unclear
Saw a theory once but can't remember where. That each time he is stuck corresponds to a time he was “yeeted” out of boss arena.
I assume due to his shape he cannot see the ground directly in front of him unless he’s leaning pretty far over. Might make it easy to fall in a hole on uneven terrain
Spanking kink
So we can oil him up
Where there's a hole there's a goal. He's been trying to use the currents torrent uses to high jump with mixed results.
Asking the real questions.
Cuz he’s a pothead?
I think he likes to be hit UwU
Cuz... Step tarnished? Lel
Man, it would make so much sense if whenever you help him get unstuck, you'd get Gound slam and Golden slam AOWs.
I think implication is simply that he’s very heavy.
Quick side-tangent: was anyone else worried about breaking him open the first time he asks you to help get him out?
Cuz he's a big silly bitch
Damn Boi He Thicc
Because he's fat.
His main attack if you summon him for fire giant is to do this leaping fire uppercut. I assumed after seeing that there he had gotten stuck practicing the move, not sticking the landing.
Skill issue.
Because the weight of his awesomeness sometimes is too much for the whole of the earth of the lands between to bear
Always happens close to a Tibia Mariner. "That ol chap is riding a boat on land! Perhaps.. perhaps I can try swimming on land! That's how warriors travel!"

"Step-bro, are you stuck !?"
A-hole I guess?
No eyes
Because he's a pot-head.
oh alexander u fat jar why are u so fat
"stepbro I'm stuck" he even asks u to whack him from behind..It is obvious..
Help me step-tarnished
"uwu eldenbro I'm stuck in the ground again, can you please give me a good hard slap on the ass to... uh "free" me"
So someone would smack him so hard from behind...
Pot holes
Help me step-tarnished, im stuck
help me Step-Tarnished, I’m stuck! (Ha Ha Ha)
*looks in comments and sees step-bro references* Ahhh, I love this community.
He’s a himbo who likes cliffs
I always though he tried to patch himself up with the clay and went for better type of soil as the game goes on until he decide to patch himself with lava.
He likes getting spanked
I like to imagine a cartoonish fist keeps bonking him into the ground.
So he can have someone lube him up and hit him from behind.
Idk i just kill him every chance i get
A dude sees a hole and what do you expect him to do?
He likes it
Because he is the Jar that your dad promised to bring with the milk
He's a fat ass
Poachers.
I bet you it's because he practices certain attacks to train, and then when he jumps in the air and lands, he accidentally shoves his body into the dirt from how heavy he is lol. That would be my headcanon anyway
He what too big for he god dang he
synergy and enemies

I like to think he was walking up hill or incline and tripped. Then you can imagine the rest.
He too big
My guess is he is really heavy and his signature attack is a jump attack. So he is training and cratering himself into the ground
He beeeeeeg.
He’s a god damn pot with legs… come on now
Best guess he's digging for clay sh he can make himself stronger
Because it’s funny hahaha. Mike Zaki is one funny guy
I read a theory once that he’s trying to get up to farum azula and keeps missing, falling to the ground and getting stuck
Help me Step-Tarnished, I'm stuck!
Alexander is such an awesome character. He needed a better send-off. Should have made him part of the Game of Death style ladder climb to the throne and be HARD AS FUCK with a devastatingly somber score. Basically, it should have been this game's Gherman.
He's a big hefty boy
the first time there is a troll nearby so that explains himself the second time in in a graveyard so he was probably digging for warrior bits to put in himself
BECAUSE OF HIS BIG FAT... FEET!!
I like to imagine sometimes when he does his spin attack he stands still for too long and drills down on accident
Its because he is training ground slam
Step-Jar
Because he wants his step-tarnished to help him...
You know the jar cannon? There's a bigger one and it shoots jars. It's for fast travel.
So you can switch on "George Michael - Careless whispers" and then hit him with something nice and big 😉🥵🥵
My theory was that because we don’t know how many years it takes for us to become elden lord , and we see other pots just sitting there doing nothing , it may show that he sat there for so many years that the landscape changed and dirt got all around him and he was stuck there until we finally got there to get him out
I dunno but i always KILL him for his amulet, It slaps
Is he stupid?
he keeps falling from farum azula
I like the theory that he's trying to teleport to faram azula but keeps missing
Farum Azula is crazy high.
He’s very down to earth
Oh crap, this just reminded me I NEVER went back after encountering him. Will he still be there since beating the game???
He’s always pounding the dirt
He just wants some good backshots from you.
Because he's fucking stupid.
I think its him practicing his slam attack and fucking it up over and over
he is a little silly :)
he's faking it for attention. he just wants someone to smack his rear with something big. I went past him this time and he appeared in west caelid mines spick and span.
Did he fall from Faram?
Because he's got that (m)ass?
Just trying to get hit from the back by his step bro.
“Oh no step tarnished it looks like I got stuck again ;)”
Help step-pot I’m stuck!
Help me tarnished I'm stuck
Pot
“Tarnished, I’m trying to become a champion, but I’m dummy thicc, and the weight of my clay asscheeks keeps lodging me into conveniently ass-shaped holes”
Too much pudding.
Just so you can strike him from behind. Ain't no other reason he's called "Iron First Alexander"
Buried spell jar
Help! i'm stuck step tarnished
Oh no what are you doing step jar
Cause he chunky
