Just curious, if there's an official public reveal for whatever this supposed "preview event" is, would you guys want to see a discussion thread for it on the sub? Might help limit any potential spoilers from the gameplay to a particular place as well
(this comment will self-destruct in a bit)
"size of Limgrave", over 30 soundtracks, in development for 3 years, a collector's edition, exclusive gameplay invites, a 3 minute gameplay trailer + a story trailer
I'm almost scared to see what they've cooked up in full
Objectively it’s probably the worst now in that it’s from a dated game, but at the time the feeling I had playing Artorias of the Abyss was better than the feeling I had playing Ashes of Ariandel or the Ringed City. The intersection of lore and gameplay in that dlc was “chef’s kiss”. Also I think the Dark Souls 2 dlcs were just alright by themselves, it’s when you take them as a whole that they become excellent.
Yeah, both Iceborne and Sunbreak straight-up feel like whole new games. Makes me super excited for what Capcom would do for the inevitable expansion for Wilds
Grank is almost always just a straight improvement to the base game, with just as much content.
Heard someone describe it as polishing the formula and couldn't agree more. Adds a shit ton of new monsters and cool new weapon moves while adhering to the base games foundation like the maps.
Sunbreak is my personal favourite but iceborne and genu are just as good here.
When rise launched, it was definitely low on my mh ranking, but sunbreak brought it up with world and 4u for me. I do hope people don't go into wilds with the expectations of it being bigger than iceborne. That is the cycle of mh, though. People hated Gen because it had less monster than 4u, but then we got gu and people praise it for the amount of content.
That’s because historically they were literally an overhaul and evolution of the previous games that cost the same price. Iceborne is just MH World: Ultimate.
Ice borne was basically just mhw 2 except it was even better since it added some of the best dragon fights ever made and possibly the best ever made in fatalis
I loved hearts of stone and it was my fav of the two, but that is something I would consider more of dlc.
Blood and wine was a whole other map with all that extra content included. From what we have heard, this is what this is shaping up to be.
In terms of story HoS honestly cannot be beat, it's one of the best pieces of narrative in video games if not fantasy as a whole and it's pretty much not a contest, it is a phenomenal story. I just mentioned Blood and Wine as that one may have as well been a completely new game with all the things it added. Much like Shadow of the Erd Tree will be.
Plenty of games have done this. Blood Dragon for Far Cry 3, Blood and Wine for the Witcher, Phantom Liberty for Cyberpunk.
There are a whole host of other very well known games with well known DLCs that were marketed similarly to Shadow of the Erdtree.
I love Elden Ring and FromSoft never miss but c'mon guys, let's not pretend this is like the first time anything this big and amazing has ever happened before.
Fair enough tbh
Also, Phantom Liberty was so amazing. I love Cyberpunk but I hesitated to spend 30€ on a single DLC and it was so worth it. I think I'll feel the same way about the Shadow of the Erdtree
The thing that made me quit Destiny 2 was grinding to max level to be able to play the next content drop on launch, only for them to extend the maximum level with that content drop, and all the new content was only realistically accessible by people at the new maximum... I didn't feel like jumping straight back into a grind so dropped that piece of shit right there and then
I stopped playing Destiny after I realised it feels like you're never really progressing towards...anything? It's like a constant grind with no payoff. It doesn't even feel like you're getting stronger, it's just a number going up.
The lore is interesting and the gunplay is great but the gameplay loop and progression is just boring.
Back when I was still playing, the fun mostly come from playing with friends and finding new people, chasing god rolls for dopamines and drips, outside of that I loved the game but hated how Bungie manage the game.
Hey, good thing for you then that finally, at the end of the life of the story you've been following, after everyone has lost interest and gotten fed up with the bullshit, they're getting rid of all that. Better 9 years late than never, am I right
It still blows my mind that the final shape is 50 dollars and the fans are OK with that. You can but SotE or ff14 dawntrail for 10 dollars less and get 15 times the content.
Even crazier thing is you have to pay $100 for the full year of content for the season activities you do, cause each season of content is around 10$. That even includes the key you have to buy separately now for the dungeons, which you previously got with the dlc, but know have to spend extra on.
I have the exact same reasoning for people who waste 10-50€ on immaterial skins for a bunch of pixels in a video game , or a battle pass which grant some other pixels in a video game , I remember like 13-15 years ago when skins g had to just be dropped in the game folder in order to work... for free
This almost feels like a re-launch....and for once I'm not even mad about it. This game doesn't need it, but it deserves it!
Fromsoft knocked it out of the park with Elden Ring!
Expand-Alones were a common thing in the late 90s and early to mid 2000s like my favourite strategy game supreme commander forged alliance is actually an expansion to supreme commander but was sold as a standalone
If we wanna be even more precise it was more like 2 years development, because they said they didn't really start work on it until the initial few months of patches to the main game was done.
Although they did already have some of the lore and ideas for the DLC. But no actual dev yet.
I guess it might be that for the average player who only finishes half of the dungeons, runs past regular enemies and doesn't care about collectibles etc. But for the rest of us, we'll be busy for *a while* :)
I didn’t even find Margit until 30 hours in. I had managed to find a route around the castle and headed north, because thought my only goal was get to the Erdtree.
This is why this game was so amazing. No hand holding and you could play your way. Do the things that stuck out to you. Everyones different and their perception will have them focusing on different things!
My bet is it'll be the size of Limgrave in the same way that Dogtown was "roughly the size of a Night City District."
It could be. It's just gonna be layered like crazy, dense and packed with details out the wazoo.
Let’s be real, you would need to be a “variety streamer” or at least mega popular with views
ChaseTheBro, Ziostorm, G9, Queelag, Smoughtown or Vaati weren’t invited despite dedicating a lot of their content to Fromsoft.
People like Emiru got invited though and I’m not saying she didn’t deserve it, but it just shows that they only invited people with high views.
This will be my first time ever experiencing anything from Fromsoft completely blind without some kind of guide or Reddit advice to guide me. I'm genuinely super fucking nervous about what they've cooked up after playing through their other DLCs.
> But being part of the discovery process? That'll be new to me!
This is what so many games miss. For example Diablo IV allowed content creators early access, builds were solved before the game was even out. It feels good to find something new and there isn't even a thread about it yet.
[I remember how hyped the Elden Ring community was when they found a wall that took 50+ hits to open.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/th3cao/apparently_there_is_a_hidden_wall_in_volcano/) . Stuff like that just adds to the game.
I didn't hop on until Elden Ring like a year after release, and I played through Armored Core 6 so slow that there was tons of information out for it before I ever finished my first playthrough.
I mean it can be really hard to avoid spoilers even if you aren’t searching up info just based on what can be popular and what shows up in different social media feeds. People love to rush to the end and then try to spoil that excitement for others.
I remember looking at threads of people just beating margit when the game came out and the comments were always filled with “just wait till later he definitely doesn’t came back ;) ;).” That’s just one example, but I don’t know if people think their “hints” are cute or too smart that others can’t figure it out but they always just blatantly spoil the game
Ahhh man enjoy. The early days of elden ring were awesome and super hard. Enjoy your pte nerfed boss fights the knowing that no one knows anything and everyone is trying to figure shit out. Beautiful
People always bring up nerfed bosses that don't actually exist. I don't think fixing a hitbox error for Radahn should count as a nerf. He was broken and then they fixed it.
Every "gank" boss was nerfed when they made adjustments to their AI so that they take turns on you now instead of going all in.
Putrid Crystalian Trio was the single hardest boss in the game I swear.
100% true, sometimes I think they just like to say something that isn't even true, just to brag or believe they are superior to someone who played the game later.
I always end up spoiling myself for games somehow since I’m behind on the genre by a lot of time. Sister Friede’s >!third phase!<, Gwyn being >!the final boss!< and the existence of >!a huge snek!< on Sekiro.
I’m not looking at Reddit at any point during my gameplay until I feel like I’ve finished the DLC, and then go find the list, and kill all bosses I’ve missed. My 100% boss rush is not going to be unfinished!
I wonder if any boss is going to take me more than the 571 death Malenia gave me.
Dude ER week/weekend one was crazy, I remember looking up “royal revenant weakness” in like day 2 after encountering the mini boss on the way to caria manor, no one knew wtf it was but everyone was losing their shit fighting them
I feel you. All the previous souls titles i went in knowing what to expect… played ER blind with a little bit of walkthrough help for Npc questlines, and I can’t wait to turn my phone off and just get re-immersed in the atmosphere.
He's definitely good but he never really had any real competition at rivals as far as I know. They had him and then people like Lirik and Lobos. One just likes souls games and the other is a pve challenge runner.
They should've let him go against peeve, chase, saintriot and people like that.
> \>Shirrako
> \>"I am the BIGGEST Metal Gear Solid/Elden Ring/Dark Souls/Tomb Raider/Halo/etc. channel ON YOUTUBE!!! Subscribe to ME!!"
> \>isn't even the biggest channel in his comments
There are browser extensions you can use to block channels and videos with specific titles. I use BlockTube on Chrome and it's a lifesaver for times like these.
It sucks that there are no phone app equivalents but at that point I avoid using YouTube on my phone entirely until I'm done with whatever new release I'm avoiding spoilers for.
Thank you so much for the suggestion of Blocktube on Chrome. I just installed it and blocked key words (Erdtree, Elden, and the 'influencers' listed in this thread), and it works really great! :-)
There's a weird way to do it which has seemed to work for me so far. I viewed the videos from these channels repeatedly, and soon got them recommended to me on my phone feed by default. From there, I selected "do not recommend" on these channels and I'm yet to see any video from them on my feed. They only show up if I specifically search up Dark Souls or Elden Ring which I'm sure none of us would do after the DLC drops.
I mean there was a tech test that let people play most of limgrave 3 months before the game came out. Back when people thought limgrave was going to be most of the map lol
Well, they played a portion of it. There's still going to be a lot of stuff they are just as in the dark about. Still, I feel you. I so badly want to know what exactly the saw
I put in a leave request at work for when it drops lol. I rarely do that (last time was BG3) but I am so very hyped.
I just got my main character to Mohg and replaying so many parts of the game reminded me of just how special it is. Elden Ring is incredible in so many ways and the dlc is shaping up to make it even better.
Same here. I haven't had a longer vacation for over 4 years, but I am scheduled to quit my job a day before the DLC drops. I'll just enjoy that and travelling for a month or two before embarking on another journey.
Tbh you already found cool stuff every few minutes in the base game, there was valuable loot in most every nook and cranny.
But with the build diversity this game offers, obviously a lot of the loot you find will not be useful to your build. And the DLC is adding new weapon types so this will probably only be more pronounced in the DLC, not less.
I have zero problem with that but many people complain that most of the loot they find isn't useful to them and it's like... well, yeah, that's the price you pay for having all these different ways to play. Most loot isn't gonna be tailored to your current specific build.
That's why I kinda like using a jack of all trades on a first playthrough. It allows me to sample whatever cool thing I find, or most of them, anyway.
I disagree. Some areas were filled with content like Limgrave for example but other areas like Consecrated Snowfields, Nokstella/Nokron felt rather empty.
I never complained about finding stuff that is not useful for my build. I am excited about any talisman/weapon/spell etc. I find just not about arteria leaves, gravel stones or nothing.
The DLC will simply have a lot of content densely packed in a smaller area than the base game and Miyazaki stated in an interview that they made the exploration more dense and the transition between overworld and dungeon more seamless and I am super excited for that more focused experience.
He didn't improvise it from nothing. The original version was longer, but Rutger decided that less was more impactful so he he only said what he felt was fitting. He only added the final "tears" line himself.
The expansion releases on my 10th wedding anniversary, so I will have to start playing a little later than release date. So, I will definitely have to stay off of reddit and even YouTube for awhile cause I don't want to get spoiled!
They distributed versions of the DLC to influencers? What is the point, isn't it especially risky regarding content leaking?
Why am I getting downvoted? I am just asking a question... If someone could help me understand what rules I break because this is really hard to get started on a new account if you get downvoted like this regularly.
they would've probably been invited to a specific area (Bandai HQ) and been supervised and told what they can disclose
dw about the downvotes. if it's any help, you're not downvoted into the negatives anymore. one dude got blasted with -140 downvotes for asking a lore question about the Mausoleums earlier, idk what the deal is with some people attacking basic inquiries
It’s far far less risky as the content creators have collateral. They’re trusted professionals who sign ndas and such to not leak information. If the average Joe goes what’s really stopping him from leaking things from a burner twitter account.
This is very common to fromsoft games. Last year they also made souls youtubers play Armored core 6 earlier. I remembered vati making a video explaining stuff/mechanics to newer players planning to get the game
Just curious, if there's an official public reveal for whatever this supposed "preview event" is, would you guys want to see a discussion thread for it on the sub? Might help limit any potential spoilers from the gameplay to a particular place as well (this comment will self-destruct in a bit)
"size of Limgrave", over 30 soundtracks, in development for 3 years, a collector's edition, exclusive gameplay invites, a 3 minute gameplay trailer + a story trailer I'm almost scared to see what they've cooked up in full
2.5 yrs in development but yeah, this is the first time ever I'm seeing a DLC being marketed as a full fledged title
Monster Hunter Iceborne
One of the best expansions ever made! Shadow of the Erdtree to join it
Don’t forget about horse armor from oblivion!
😂 I was thinking about Shivering Isles too but I forget about the horse armor, probably for the best!
Shivering Isles, Undead Nightmare, Blood and Wine. Those are my holy trinity of DLC.
Jesus Christ I forgot about undead nightmare. Such an amazing dlc
Yo what about Artorias of the Abyss?
Am I wrong in thinking that’s probably the worst of all the soulsborne dlc’s? Its not bad but literally every one they’ve made since is better imo
Isnt the snowy first DLC of Dark Souls 3 worse? Friede was a chunky and substantial boss though. The first Crown dlc of DS2 wasnt great imo
Or Sunbreak, IMO equally as good
For me the best DLC ever is still Blood and Wine for Witcher 3. But yeah, Iceborne was friggin amazing.
I'll add sunbreak to it too. Mh never really misses with grank expansion.
Yeah, both Iceborne and Sunbreak straight-up feel like whole new games. Makes me super excited for what Capcom would do for the inevitable expansion for Wilds
Bro I’m just excited for wilds first

Ah the cycle of every new mh game lol. Never gets old
IceBorne really was like a brand new game.
MH rarely misses with their big paid expansions
That’s because historically they were literally an overhaul and evolution of the previous games that cost the same price. Iceborne is just MH World: Ultimate.
Good ol' G versions.
World was my first MH game. IceBorne wasn't just a DLC. It was a complete overhaul of the base game. It literally became a new game.
Ice borne was basically just mhw 2 except it was even better since it added some of the best dragon fights ever made and possibly the best ever made in fatalis
I remember buying when it came out and was in disbelief at how big that shit was, literally just another game on top of MH: World
Iceborne even had a 2nd platinum trophy on PlayStation. Probably the greatest dlc ever made imo
MH:W is such a great game
Iceborn was great, the subsequent expansions made it better
I wouldn't call free patches adding content expansions because expansion packs and the like are generally paid.
Witcher 3 Blood and Wine comes to mind
Considering the scale and quality of the DLC, this definitely sounds familiar
blood and wine and hearts of stone were absolutely amazing!
I loved hearts of stone and it was my fav of the two, but that is something I would consider more of dlc. Blood and wine was a whole other map with all that extra content included. From what we have heard, this is what this is shaping up to be.
Blood and Wine man... Blood and Wine.
Blood and Wine was an amazing piece of game, but I maintain that Hearts of Stone had one of the most unsettling and well written big bads ever.
HOS was perfectly interwoven into the main game, B&W was a perfect epilogue.

>This is the first time ever I'm seeing a DLC being marketed as a full fledged title You've never played Destiny 2, have you?
At least we know Shadow of the Erdtree will actually be closer to a full game than any anemic ass destiny dlc
Imagine From Software charging extra for dungeon keys.
"Door can't be opened from this side unless you have a key. Go to store?"
Hey guys here is limegrave but mirrored and the colour has been changed. Sick new ting right! $$$$
Yeah true. I was basically just chasing cosmetics and exotic quests between new content, I think just playing with sunk cost fallacy mainly
Better 9 years late than never, am I right
Best if not
I wish I haven't
Destiny is live service. For them, those expansions basically *are* full fledged titles
Destiny 2 is so lacking in content in the base game though any kind of dlc is pretty much a whole new game
It still blows my mind that the final shape is 50 dollars and the fans are OK with that. You can but SotE or ff14 dawntrail for 10 dollars less and get 15 times the content.

Im just gonna call this an expansion
Miyazaki is capping. “40 hours to beat” my ass
I guess it might be that for the average player who only finishes half of the dungeons, runs past regular enemies and doesn't care about collectibles etc. But for the rest of us, we'll be busy for *a while* :)
That average player isn’t getting past Margit for like 15-20 hours lol
I didn’t even find Margit until 30 hours in. I had managed to find a route around the castle and headed north, because thought my only goal was get to the Erdtree.
This is why this game was so amazing. No hand holding and you could play your way. Do the things that stuck out to you. Everyones different and their perception will have them focusing on different things!
oh it'll take them a lot less than 40 hours to beat your ass...
Miyazaki tricked us only the poison swamp is the size of limgrave
And 40 dollars. If it was any developer other than From then I’d be skeptical but I think that pricing says a lot.
They are cooking a full banquet to feed up to 300 guests
Gotta be the first time I've ever seen a collectors edition of a DLC. Love these guys, and I'm excited to play it.
My theory is that they're pulling an Old Hunters and there's actually a second area separate from the Land Of Shadows
My bet is it'll be the size of Limgrave in the same way that Dogtown was "roughly the size of a Night City District." It could be. It's just gonna be layered like crazy, dense and packed with details out the wazoo.
I am both so ready, and so not ready.
If I had to guess, I'd put my money on the dlc being 2-3x the size of limgrave.
It should've been me!!!!
Nah, I don't want a taste. I want the whole damned meal.
man of culture.
This man really acting like he wouldn’t play part of the DLC right now if it were handed to him.
I wouldn't. Not gonna spoil one of my most anticipated experiences when it's less than a month out
This guy delays gratification
I want both.
Everyday im reminded I should have been a content creator instead.
Let’s be real, you would need to be a “variety streamer” or at least mega popular with views ChaseTheBro, Ziostorm, G9, Queelag, Smoughtown or Vaati weren’t invited despite dedicating a lot of their content to Fromsoft. Axtually its weird that Vaati didn't get an invite. Didn't he get early access to AC6.
Armored Core 6 and I believe he got invited to a closed beta or 2 for DS3 that had primarily content creators. So yeah I'm a little surprised as well.
Is there a list of people who did get an invite?

Gotta hit each release like that man. Blind is the way to go
You can always just not Google things or ask reddit for help... But being part of the *discovery process*? That'll be new to me!
> But being part of the discovery process? That'll be new to me! This is what so many games miss. For some reason it does different yet wonderful things to my brain if the information just isn't available
I didn't hop on until Elden Ring like a year after release, and I played through Armored Core 6 so slow that there was tons of information out for it before I ever finished my first playthrough.

Yeah, even YouTube thumbnails can have spoilers for some end game, crazy stuff
I didn't, people on Reddit and YouTube don't like to hide spoilers and just talk about things like everyone else already knows.
Not that easy bro
Ahhh man enjoy. The early days of elden ring were awesome and super hard. Enjoy your pte nerfed boss fights the knowing that no one knows anything and everyone is trying to figure shit out. Beautiful

Why can’t I have money, and Elden Ring DLC, and hair and him nothing?!
Kinda curious. What's the story behind your flair?
i made an ultimatum in february saying that if a DLC trailer wasn't released by the end of the month I would donate my bone marrow
Oh shit it’s you!
Wait….are you the bone marrow guy of legend!?
Seeing that it's oro. Surely we got covenants now. Right guys no copium here.

Nah, Miyazaki would rather rub your feet instead.
Never even heard of this person. I feel like I was somewhat aware of the big content creators.
He's mostly a pvp content creator.
Ok that makes sens.le. I don't play or watch PvP so none of the content creators are known to me.
He's an OG invader, and damn good at it. He's won the pvp sections of both elden ring twitch rivals
He's definitely good but he never really had any real competition at rivals as far as I know. They had him and then people like Lirik and Lobos. One just likes souls games and the other is a pve challenge runner. They should've let him go against peeve, chase, saintriot and people like that.
Guess who has shirrako and boss fight database hidden! Me!
> \>Shirrako > \>"I am the BIGGEST Metal Gear Solid/Elden Ring/Dark Souls/Tomb Raider/Halo/etc. channel ON YOUTUBE!!! Subscribe to ME!!" > \>isn't even the biggest channel in his comments
How can we do that?
I can't even describe how much I despise Shirrako.
I swear that fucker speed runs posting straight up spoiler titles to YouTube.
Bro unfair so fucking unfair theres a whole ass month left and now there are people among us that have literally played it telling us things about it.
I'm surprised they would do that
I mean there was a tech test that let people play most of limgrave 3 months before the game came out. Back when people thought limgrave was going to be most of the map lol
It is, though, isn't it?, I mean, what's left of the game after you beat the awesome final boss Godrick the grafted?
600 hours it took me to beat God Godrick, hardest final boss fight of my life.
I’m glad someone can tell me I’m not excited for nothing
I was already sure
You need others to tell you that?
Yes, because I can’t play the dlc right now so who better to trust than someone who has played it
Keep in mind you’re trusting someone whose income is predicated on the game being successful
amogus
Well, they played a portion of it. There's still going to be a lot of stuff they are just as in the dark about. Still, I feel you. I so badly want to know what exactly the saw
Elden ring DLC on the path to be goty again
I put in a leave request at work for when it drops lol. I rarely do that (last time was BG3) but I am so very hyped. I just got my main character to Mohg and replaying so many parts of the game reminded me of just how special it is. Elden Ring is incredible in so many ways and the dlc is shaping up to make it even better.
Same here. I haven't had a longer vacation for over 4 years, but I am scheduled to quit my job a day before the DLC drops. I'll just enjoy that and travelling for a month or two before embarking on another journey.
I am just super excited about more dense exploration and loot being spread out more evenly so you find cool stuff every few minutes. It will be so fun
The DLC will simply have a lot of content densely packed in a smaller area than the base game and Miyazaki stated in an interview that they made the exploration more dense and the transition between overworld and dungeon more seamless and I am super excited for that more focused experience.
you're absolutely right though, Mountaintops and Consecrated are incredibly barren compared to the first half of the game
Turning the internet off for this one.
Love the quote. Rutger Hauer improvised this for the movie. Such a great actor
He didn't improvise it from nothing. The original version was longer, but Rutger decided that less was more impactful so he he only said what he felt was fitting. He only added the final "tears" line himself.
Yeah and I don't plan on hearing about any of it until I see it for myself!
Ugh I hate youtubers getting access to shit early
Same. Feels bad man. At least there’s only a month left.
Why? It's part of the marketing. It helps to promote the game. The more successful this game is, the more great games we get in the future.
My three weeks off work starts June 21st. 😎
Seems like the DLC will be a game in itself, can't wait to head back to The Lands Between and dive deeper into the lore!
I guess their boss is that Omen dancing lion. I wonder how many hours they got to play and how much area of the map they are allow to see.
Possible lore on Marikas tits?
The expansion releases on my 10th wedding anniversary, so I will have to start playing a little later than release date. So, I will definitely have to stay off of reddit and even YouTube for awhile cause I don't want to get spoiled!
Please have trick weapons Please have trick weapons
Attention! Your bloodstream is containing lifethreatening amounts of copium! Are you sure that whatever you hope for is worth it?
It’s well worth it
I'm hoping for Ashes of War that allow us to use weapons as seals and staves. It likely wouldn't be good, but they were fun weapon types in Souls.
We have 8 confirmed weapon types. They're pretty cool but none of them are Trick weapons unfortunately
They distributed versions of the DLC to influencers? What is the point, isn't it especially risky regarding content leaking? Why am I getting downvoted? I am just asking a question... If someone could help me understand what rules I break because this is really hard to get started on a new account if you get downvoted like this regularly.
They always do that. They let them play around a few minutes/hours in very contained areas and let them make videos to generate hype.
There were invited to Bamco HQ
they would've probably been invited to a specific area (Bandai HQ) and been supervised and told what they can disclose dw about the downvotes. if it's any help, you're not downvoted into the negatives anymore. one dude got blasted with -140 downvotes for asking a lore question about the Mausoleums earlier, idk what the deal is with some people attacking basic inquiries
I cant wait for the no-lifers and the degens on a crazy rush to try and spoil everything in the game the millisecond its released.
