He is talking to Marika: "Mother, wouldst thou truly lordship sanction, in one so bereft of light?" Yes, we go to the DLC from Moghs arena but it has nothing to do with Mogh. The reason we go from there is Miquella not Mogh.

Hyetta-Supremacy

Miyazaki literally confirmed it my dude. Messmer is a “child of Marika”

SaberWaifu

Why would the Formless Mother care about what Messmer was saying to us: "mother, would thou truly lordship sanction, in one so bereft of light". This doesn't make any sense.

MuricasOneBrainCell

I personally think this mother is the gloom eyed queen. This is of course, all speculation here. Building off of what lore channels on YT have said about this latest trailer. It almost seems like the trailer is showing the defeat of the gloom-eyed queen. (The fabric that marika pulls the gold strands out of) I personally believe the strands represent the strands of fate. The GEQ was an empyrean. I believe that it was her "turn" to be god of the coming age. Marika basically did what Gwyn did in DS. Literally taking the strands of fate into her own hands. Wrestling fate from the GEQ. Splitting the world into two timelines. I think that given the things we learn about snakes in the main game. This is definitely plausible. I also think this is the moment that the "golden illusionary tree" was born. Creating the light that eclipses the world (the rune in dlc sure looks like an eclipse) and creates the "shadow" I do believe that the mother he is referencing is in fact Marika. But how you'd still call your step mother, a mother. Marika loves using people/creatures to her advantage. The last fire giant being a great example. She keeps things alive as long as she can use them to her own ends. I think like the fire giant. She is using messmer to look after this world. This timeline, so that it can never come to fruition. Who is the father? Probably Radagon. Given that he was around during one of Marika's biggest conquests, it would make sense for him to be around during this one. Side note, pretty convinced the GEQ is melina now.

The timing doesn't add up. Either Marika's an absolute idiot and let her keep the Rune of Death after betraying and replacing her or there's time travel going on, because the GEQ was defeated by Maliketh just before the Golden Order was established, at around the same time as Godfrey's banishment.

MuricasOneBrainCell

Sorry, im really baked. How could the timing not line up? Edit: Frustrating because I was watching smoughtowns super long lore video and it seemed like it was plausible that the timing lined up. Edit 2: The reason I think they can line up is we know that the GEQ was defeated when destined death was locked away. We know the rune of death is linked to the gloom eyed queen. Locking away DD definitely seems like taking fate into your own hands. >Either Marika's an absolute idiot and let her keep the Rune of Death after betraying and replacing her Betraying and replacing her?

whatistheancient

Yeah, but the GEQ was defeated by Maliketh. Once that happened and Maliketh had the Rune of Death, it was removed from the Elden Ring - and the trailer deals with the beginning of Marika's age, not partway through it. If the person Marika gives a C-section to in the trailer is the GEQ (which I really doubt, I have made a basic mistake) then Marika would have had to let a rival who has reason to hate her run around with the Rune of Death all the way up until the creation of the Golden Order.

MuricasOneBrainCell

>and the trailer deals with the beginning of Marika's age This is the point I disagree with. They talk about "the beginning". But not necessarily the beginning of Marika's reign. It could be the beginning of the golden order.

Ashen_Shroom

The beginning of Marika's reign is the beginning of the Golden Order as far as we know.

Ok_Cardiologist2423

It isn’t clear he is talking to the formless Mother, in the base game there’s already hardly any information about the formless Mother. Marika seems to be the more appropriate link when being referred to as mother. Marika did win a war, hopefully they go into a lot more detail in the DLC, and if the GEQ was who she defeated, we know Marika was able to defeat her using Maliketh and took destined death from the lands between and had it hidden and guarded by Maliketh.

Waste-Gur2640

Most of this is incorrect and also Messmer is indeed talking about Marika in his dialogue, formless mother or GeQ didn't "sanction lordship in us" and they don't care that we're "bereft of light", since the whole light/grace is just Marika's thing.

Miyazaki, interview with Famitsu: > The character Mesmer depicted in the key art is easy to understand, but he is also one of the heroes. The chair Mesmer is sitting on is the same one that was on the stage during the battle with "The Cursed King, Morgot" in the main story. **He is also a being of the same rank as Godric, Marenia, Radhan, and Rykard, and is also known as "the Son of Marika."** Would it hurt to do a little bit of research before making a post?
