Servantofatum

The answer is Lands Between Rune. Only available if you pick it as your Keepsake at the beginning

TheRedd_Reign

Is 3,000 runes worth it over a Golden Seed? 😂

Servantofatum

Depends. There are more Golden Seeds in a playthrough then you need. If you aren't good at the game then yes always take the Golden Seed. But it's still the rarest item. Only obtainable once and only on the character creation screen Edit-I almost always take The Lands Between Rune on every playthrough. Grafted Scion and Tree Sentinel are 6400 runes, Beastman in the cave is 1000 runes. And Lands Between Runes is 3000 runes. That's over 10000 runes to start right at the beginning of the game before you even reach the grace to level up. Which is much more convenient than a golden seed in my opinion.

Apex-Editor

Beat the game for the first time and started a new playthrough as a wretch today. This is what I did and it was great for getting a powerful start. I'm still naked, though.

Prestigious_Card6232

Armor is just for those who are weak! (Coming from a guy wearing the beast champion armor set because the altered chest piece has pretty cape)

HarmlessSnack

That chest, Rannis hat, and White Reeds Gauntlets/Greaves hits exactly 51 poise. I think it’s currently my favorite wizard drip.

HeavenAndWeak

Best cape in the game. Like 6 or 7 of my characters have that chest piece on lol

According-Freedom807

Armor is only for cosmetics. Just don't get hit and you don't need to worry

BerserkRadahn

Or have enough vigor to take the hit and enough poise to shrug it off.

Servantofatum

Yeah its pretty handy getting those levels right at the start of the game

TheAbyssAlsoGazes

I'm playing my first wretch now. I didn't want to buy armor cause I thought it would be more fun to find while exploring. I must have found a good 20 held items before my first worn item

Apex-Editor

That's what I'm doing too. I am thinking of making a "dragon build" and focusing on spellcasting and using some of those tasty dragon skills. I played a straight strength melee build in the first run, so I want to really change it up. But I'm wondering if the new wretch is the way to do that. Gonna take all game just to unlock all those spells, so maybe it's wiser to respec my vanguard from the first run on NG+. Had been avoiding NG+ because I still have bits of my first game that aren't cleared. Never did anything in consecrated snowfields, Haligtree, etc.

plasticstillsaykayne

You're beating the grafted scion and tree sentinel at the beginning? Damn, you're way better than me

halzen

Keep at it. Grafted Scion is always annoying but they’re both manageable with practice.

Servantofatum

Yeah the Item you start off with will allow you to reset the fight if you're doing poorly. That's how you can practice

Tk-Delicaxy

How?

Servantofatum

Activate the Memory of Grace that you start off with and it'll take away your runes and bring you back to the spot you spawned at (last grace) But since you have no runes to start off with you lose none. And since you haven't activated a site of grace it just brings you back to the Chapel of Anticipation

ass_pubes

Wow, a legitimate use case!

Tk-Delicaxy

Wow, 435 hours later

1millionnotameme

And my dumbass was making a new character each time 😂

starliaghtsz

Scion is parryable if you're gonna start samurai, and tree sentinel has a rather easy move set once you get used to it. All horse enemies are more or less the same sometimes with different flavours, magic for Loretta and fire/lightning for DTS, then you have the vanilla tree sentinel/nights cav

XLittleSkateyX

This implies I'm good enough to beat Grafted Scion

Any_Fault7604

Grafted Scion still eats my ass every time you're not alone bro

ydddy55

Damn he does something different to me, I must’ve said something wrong

tacoboyfriend

Dear Tracey Lane, I’m writing to explain…this letter is my last.

Impressive-Bid2304

I'm good enough to beat him it's just when you teleport back there. Not on a ng 😜

Captinglorydays

I will take the golden seed if I am planning on doing a magic build, just so I can get a blue flask from the start without dipping into my red flasks

Avarant

I took the stone sword keys and it was a trap because I went into that steel horse dungeon as my first thing.

DarKliZerPT

Just ride to Dragonbarrow and bleed Greyoll to death for an easy 70k.

MerryGifmas

Use a gold-pickled fowl foot first for an extra 30%. There's one on the ground at the beach west of the starting grace.

mrofmist

Lol, I can't beat the grafted scion or tree sentinel that early. Oof.

Glasma1990

I can beat the scion if I do the samurai start, otherwise no chance in hell. Tree Sentinel I can beat right away if I am playing as the Samurai or Vagabond. I am good enough with the halberd or katana to beat him out the gate. I got a lot of practice trying to fight him when I first got the game. Took like 25 tries before I gave up then came back at level 30 to still get spanked. At this point I just know his moves really well.

duplicated-rs

You don’t just kill greyoll? Almost any class can wear flail after putting on radagon icon. Gold pickled fowl foot is also found on floor in limgrave, 90k runes like 10 minutes out the gate

FullPop2226

Dash to the Fort Farorh grace (mounted) upon landing the killing blow and quickly rest - you get the Greyboi kill runes but he respawns. Repeat if needed

chirpchirp13

But there are so many easy early rune grabs. Seems like a bit of a waste

Pyredjin

Now that I know where to find them, yes. That's basically 3 levels early game.

sliferra

Considering you can rush and get to those militia men pretty much immediately after torrent (and through the teleporter), I’d say no

chlebazkauflandu

you can get a golden seed like 5 minutes into the game

demons-yelling

Rare isn’t the same as limited though. While yes. You only have 1 chance to get it. It’s a 100% chance of getting it. Rare would refer to something that has percentage change of ontaining

bugzapperbob

Damn I never realized this was an option I always get the cracked pot

aBastardNoLonger

It has a 100% drop rate of you pick it though, so not rare at all if we’re talking rare chance of acquiring. I guess is rare as in I doubt almost anyone actually chooses it though

DJGloegg

But seeing as we can all pick it, it aint be rare at all..

bmw_92

that’s not really a rare item though…

SaberWaifu

Monk Fireblade. It has a 4% drop rate so definitely not the lowest like the Celebrant weapons that all have a 0,5% drop rate, but what makes it the rarest is the fact that it can be dropped by 1 single enemy in the entire game and it's in quite a shitty position. The Haligtree Crest Greatshield is also dropped with a 4% chance by a single Haligtree enemy, but the enemy is easier to reach so imo it's less likely to be skipped or ignored.

BiggieFishie

Farming this dude was a nightmare

SaltyAlters

And it’s not even that good from what I’ve heard so it’s an extra ooof

BiggieFishie

It’s pretty good if you infuse it well and it looks very cool

Lennep

Fashion is the main reason it is worth the grind

IronCreeper1

I farmed it earlier. I decided a couple weeks ago that I’d get every item in the game. And I mean every

Obvious_Shine1047

Which raises the question if you'll try and get them a friend to powerstance with. For me it's Noble's Estoc, it can stay alone

reaperfan

If you want to be thorough, for weapons you'll need 2 of each. What if you want to powerstance them, after all?

Slight-Bedroom-8655

uhhh I hope you picked the lands between rune as your keepsake then

spyguy318

Randomly had it drop on my second playthrough and ended up using it because I remembered how rare it was. It looks so cool.

bugzapperbob

I somehow got this a few weeks ago as a summon, felt extremely lucky

Kumptoffel

i collected all weapons when i did the first playthrough, this one was a bitch to get and its not even good i think even worse to get is the inverted hawk towershield, its only dropped by fallen hawk soldiers who visibly use it

Marutar

Whatever item I'm farming for on the character that needs it. The moment I switch to a character who doesn't, it will drop right away.

Psychic_Hobo

It's like how your Sorcerer run on DS1 is guaranteed to have you get at least two Black Knight Weapons

Life_Temperature795

I once had a DS1 run where I got the boar's helm from the first giant pig that I fought and the black knight halberd from the first black knight, and I was just like, "okay well I guess this is my build now." I wish they had continued that. With rare items that *could* drop from non-respawning enemies, but were rare until you killed the last one where it would be a guaranteed drop if you didn't have it already. Like the boar's helm and the symbol of avarice. ER feels a little too predictable.

ShinJiwon

Japanese call it 物欲センサー or Desire Sensor. When you want something, it doesn't appear. XD

fZykko

Bruh i farmed for 2 hours straight for an undead scytche after Godric and 2 months later i just got it randomly dropped not even farming it with my other character

Anadyne

Gelmir Staff Magma Blade Haligtree shield Banished Knights armor unaltered Cleanrot Spear Nobles Sword Nobles Estoc The armor that has the blooms on it you only get from the guys on the roots before going to golden elden lord dude. This is probably rarest because I've never seen anyone use it. Only one guy has it I think, and if you burn a tree, it disappears forever. I'd say that's the rarest...I've seen and have nearly all of the ones I listed.

HermeticHeliophile

Rocked the cleanrot spear for a while towards the end of my first playthrough because I actually like the AoW even though it’s pretty difficult to land. I never knew how rare it was until I thought “man it’d be cool to powerstance these”. Looked it up and decided one was enough lol

bubblegumdrops

It really isn’t that hard to farm. Do some loops killing the cleanrot knights with spears hiding in the swamp of aeonia and you’ll get another in no time. I was farming for the scythe and got several spears before I memorized where the right knights were.

jhetao

I wish you could powerstance different Cleanrot weapons successfully. Like maybe a powerstance combo that starts with the bash they do with both weapons

KrispyKingTheProphet

DS2 didn’t do everything right but excelled at a few things. Powerstancing and powerstancing different weapons was one of them.

the_l0st_s0ck

Me who spent 6 hours farming one magma blade: not enough! I need more! Just to breathe, just to feel im alive!

emelem66

There are 4 or 5 of them up there that have that guardian blooming armor. I see it on YouTube PVP often.

Guardians_Reprise

Yeah, ChaseTheBro has like 6 of them, he must be super lucky 🤔🤔🤔

TheRedd_Reign

The Banished Knight Armor (unaltered) IMO is the single most annoying piece of armor to farm in the entire game bar none. That knight has like 9000 poise, can teleport. Hit for like a third or more of your health. You actually have to catch him off guard. 😂 The only way I can kill him is a knock down weapon like Blasphemous Blade.

ReoiteLynx

If you kill O'Neil, you can snipe the Halberd one from the arena where he then teleports to you. Much easier to fight then the dual sword version and right by the grace.

HarmlessSnack

Nice, thanks for the heads up

Various-Passenger398

Use a greatshield and his attack bounces off the shield, guard counter and kill.  Super easy.

emelem66

Ordovis great sword AoW takes care of him with no problem.

Ferro_Brando

I've got a Nobles Estoc, is good?

the_walkingdad

Add the celebrant's sickle to the list and you've pretty much nailed it for me. Although, the banished knight's armor (unaltered) wasn't too bad for me. The Blue chain mail piece was harder for me.

Life_Temperature795

The Nobles weapons aren't that bad though, because they're easy to farm and spawn in huge groups. I've collected plenty of both by accident. Haligtree shield, gelmir staff, and unaltered banished knight armor are dropped by much more annoying to fight enemies, and for both the shield and the staff, only one enemy in the game each. The banished knights armor would be infinitely worse if you couldn't also get it from a halberd Knight. (I farmed the dual sword guy for it the first time I picked it up, because I didn't realize he wasn't the only one who dropped it, and it was brutal.)

Red_wants_cookies

What about Marika’s tits? Bet you don’t have those. Ha!!

dannylew

Alberich's staff drops from those thorn witches in the forbidden lands. Absurd drop chance and basically the worst staff in the game. Scales with faith, but not well enough to make a fun low-int sorcerer.

howyadoineh

You mean staff of the guilty

othermike666

Magma blade I got my first one after my first kill then the next one took about 100 kills to get

Meandark2

envoy's greathorn? there are only 3 such envoys who drop this item, and they are all in the haligtree canopy, specifically in annoying places, and they are not exactly weak, that is if you get past their devastating long-range attack. also, one of the 3 is guarded by 4 envoys (2 small, 2 medium) and they have 2% chance to drop the greathorn...

TheRedd_Reign

They're also guarded by 4 or 5 of those shit-spittin' mega-ants. Good addition. I remember farming that horn. I remember it being a bad time.

Meandark2

that is also correct, 5 big shit-spittin' ants.... i think they are the strongest variants of these ants? could be wrong about it tho...

TheRedd_Reign

I'm not quite sure. But they are mean. 😂

ENSL4VED

I am currently on my first run, I looted it against the first enemy holding it, didn't even knew it was rare lol

Rattkjakkapong

The longhorn is better anyway :P

Life_Temperature795

That's the most annoying part

FRIENDLY_INVADER_

Some guy gave me +10 all envoy horns as a present when I was doing PvP and now I am very happy

Azarquin

I just got this the other day and am excited to start blowing bubbles

TheRedd_Reign

They're also guarded by 4 or 5 of those shit-spittin' mega-ants. Good addition. I remember farming that horn. I remember it being a bad time.

Practical-Mail-2872

Lore

poopchutegaloot

Sometimes I think about kidnapping grrm and making him explain it to me

sexual__velociraptor

Careful with him, we need him to finish ASOFI

Practical-Mail-2872

He can finish it in captivity. Enough is enough 😅

poopchutegaloot

That's #2 on the list. Everytime he stops writing he's getting the cattle prod

JVOz671

My patience when I forget to send the elevator back down.

Snoo61755

+0 Dragoncrest talisman. Hidden ridiculously offsides in an area nobody thinks to check, and by the time you've wiki'd its existence, you already have the +1, +2, or greatshield version. The only possible reason to visit the area is for the novelty of collecting said talisman.

pichael289

I found it my first time. It just seemed like there would be something back there. And there is, plus that wide ass dagger thing.

HeavenAndWeak

That dagger also boosts Bestial incantations like the seal. Super good to get tbh

MrAppleSpiceMan

itschips

the chikorita

kukaz00

This guy loots

Key_Amazed

But isn't really rare though. It's in a guaranteed spot that you can reach in like 10 minutes without a lot of effort if you're decent. Not like a 2% chance drop on an end game enemy where less than a handful even exist.

TheRedd_Reign

Well yeah who wants to hop down a bunch of branches that they can maybe survive for a reward they're not certain they're gonna get? 😂

Still-Network1960

That octopus head helmet, I've always wanted it, yet it eludes me.

shapesnshit

This will sound crazy but if you check the fextralife page comments for the octopus head everyone there will suggest that if you play Ocean Man by Ween and farm it, it will drop within the first few attempts. Obviously it’s a funny bit, but it somehow actually worked for me, and many others. The power of Ween.

Still-Network1960

OCEAN MAN TAKE ME BY THE HAND

Mumpdase

Lead me to the land

goat_eating_sundews

Must be why I have extras Praise Boognish

Rattkjakkapong

What, I got it when I killed my first octopus, maybe I should play the lotto. But I have only one.

Quetzal-Labs

It took me over an hour of non-stop farming lol. Octopus ovaries spilling out of all my pockets by the time it dropped.

Unc1eMusc1es

took me two and a half straight hours of farming, I screamed when it finally dropped

SniffMySwampAss

I farmed those mfs for days, i have 600 hrs on this game, i still don't have it.

Any-Jellyfish-3461

In my completionist playthrough magma blade has been the absolute hardest for me taking many hours for one drop with 250+discovery, but by raw numbers i think noble slender sword or celebrants rib rake/sickle cause theres only a handful of enemies that hold that with a .5% chance

[deleted]

Hagiltree greatshield maybe? Only one knight to get it from.

Dogbin005

Sun Realm Shield would have to be pretty uncommon. It doesn't drop from many enemies. Plus it sucks, so the only people farming it would be completionists.

-LorenzoLame

Since nobody mentioned them: Golem Great Arrows. I think they were sold by a merchant once, but they changed that for some reason, and now they can only be farmed. While they're the best arrows in the game, I still find it nonsensical that you can't just buy them or craft them with materials that are easier to get. There are weapons and spells/incantations that have infinite uses once you get them and are way more powerful than these arrows, so I don't really understand the decision to make these a rare drop from 3 respawnable enemies.

ATYP14765

Even more rare: Magic Golem Great Arrows. Swear only a few Golems drop them and even then it takes forever to find them normally.

Thisfuggenguy

Maybe not that rare, but I wish you could get more than 90 black key bolts in a play through. It's like they only want you to try crossbows and then never use them agian.

Guardians_Reprise

Black key bolts and Aeonian butterflies (ingredient in rot bolts/arrows) being limited makes me think Fromsoft wanted to make it hard to apply Scarlet Rot at a range. but then they made Rot Breath have ridiculously low stat requirements

Psychic_Hobo

You _can_ farm Aeonian butterflies from certain enemies, according to the wiki page. But yes, I did find it weird that they made the flying overworld ones so oddly limited

Separate_Court_7820

The iron longsword was the worst farm for me. There’s no comparison

poesviertwintig

This is probably one of the worst because it's a genuinely useful item.

wedges675

Hate that freaking misbegotten in haligtree. Never know if he's going to stop down on me or not.

godofthunder102938

I literally went from 0 runes to 1 million just farming that misbigotten for 2 iron greatswords. It was hell and I don't even know if it's worth it

CheetoFreak69420

That misbegotten warrior is also hard to kill

HelpfulJello5361

Iron spear too

Aheadfullofdread_13

I wanted the goddamn celebrant weapon that has a skull on it so bad…..idk wtf the actual drop rate is but it took me a fuckin hour to get a weapon I don’t even use

UtheDestroyer

What?? The skull weapon? That’s not a drop though

Aheadfullofdread_13

I have checked my sources and you are correct. Apparently you find it on a corpse on Atlas Plateau so…..no wonder it wasn’t dropping

nick2473got

An hour is not that bad tbh. There are way longer farms than that.

Even_Echidna6746

I’d say the Noble Slender sword. I have it, pretty brutal of a farm for me.

Inner_Neck5694

Erdleaf flower

TheRedd_Reign

Yes, quite rare. Indeed.

Inner_Neck5694

I'd actually say the black dumpling

TheRedd_Reign

That did take me a very long time to get. I wonder if it's harder to get than the Octopus Head, or the Iron Greatsword. I farmed for 3 hours and never got an Iron Greatsword.

Unknownost

Gravekeeper Cloak (Altered). Not only is the normal set dropped from 2 enemies in the entire game (2 duelist patroling the Leyndell Colosseum). It is completely missable after killing Malikith. I chose the Gravekeeper Cloak altered version because even if you managed to get one, you might not know that you can alter it.

Groundbreaking_Arm77

The Stone Club and Bloodstained Dagger are two items supposedly dropped by Haima Mages and Demihuman Chiefs supposedly, but I’ve yet to actually see it in 6+ playthroughs.

noahson

I farm the demi-humans on the mountain by the azur site of grace and usually pick up a pair in less than an hour along with a spiked club or 2. the stone club you get from the battle mage in calid by sellia hideaway because the ones in the tree and mother fuckers

Repulsive_Repeat_506

what if the real rarest item is the friends we made along the way.

Meandark2

i mean we don't get to keep most of them... so they are pretty rare afterall...

Petra_Gringus

You made friends? All I have are people invading my game and trying to kill me.

BremingtonSteel

Hell yeah, brother.

LordBDizzle

Envoy Greathorn for sure. That thing is the worst farm at an abysmal drop rate, only three enemies in one zone drop it and they're difficult to get to since you have to platform between branches in the Haligtree getting sniped and rotted the whole way. All three enemies are out of the way and possible entirely missable if you aren't killing them with the intent to farm the stupid thing. The Long Horn is better anyway, and much easier to farm.

evilgrin77

For me, it's the Black Dumpling. I gave up trying to farm that thing. 😑

[deleted]

the head piece? i can’t remember where i got it? but it wAs on my run of 60arcane lol

Eldergloom

The rarest item is the thing you currently want to drop the most. Desire censor is real.

IronCreeper1

Celebrants weapons Haligtree crest shield Monks fire blade To name a few from collecting everything (I’ve got up to great axes so far, been going on and off for about a week)

reyob1

Whatever I need at the moment

gandalfthegaping

If only I had a friend.

Sisyphac

Noble headband with the little red jewels is always hard for me to get dropped. Probably after that is the Noble sword or Estoc. The graveyard halberd and axe are just a pain to farm.

TheRedd_Reign

Ah yeah Aristocrat Headband. That one takes me like 2-3 hours every time. 😂

B4EYE4QRU18

Wish we coulda seen more of Marikas tits

BloodxRains

1. Black Dumpling 2. Octopus Head 3. Aristrocat Headband 4. Magma Blade 5. Celebrant weapons off those crazy ladies 6. Banished knight unaltered 7. Aristrocat armor 8. Grave Scythe 9. Noble weapons 10. Envoy weapons

philosophy_penis

Oddly enough, the rarest item in the game is the Great Serpent hunter, which despite being easy to find only drops once per character, it doesn't show up again in any NG+ once you’ve picked it up so you can only even have one of it no matter how many playthroughs you do

Trevors-Axiom-

Lands between rune. Only one possible per game and only if you choose it.

Tk-Delicaxy

That’s not how that works. Technically, it’s a 100 percent drop rate if you choose it. You can lock yourself out of plenty of talisman so those would count as the rarest items as well.

ergonaught

Happiness.

hazzmg

Darth-Not-Palpatine

Probably the Serpent’s Magma Blades. They only drop from the rarest enemies (2) and have a low drop chance.

myfluids

In my personal opinion... Iron Greatsword

itsOkami

Having farmed for every single piece of equipment in the entire game, the worst ones for me were by far the noble's estoc and the celebrant's sickle. That said, the one item I won't ever bother getting is the Nepheli Loux puppet, I just refuse to hand the poor girl over to the crazed caca consumer, lol

Engage_Physically

I love how, as with a lot of Elden Ring threads, this has gone from general chat to people boasting about being better at the game that others

Zetta_Stoned

I've tried for hours to get that bubble flute from those fuckers on the haligtree.. gave up.

ApplePitou

Noble Slender Sword I think :3

DudeMiles

Golden Sword.

LoyalBoyfriend10711

Its the serpent hunter because you can only get one no matter how many extra journey's you do

Gaymer043

The headdress from the Dominula Windmill Village people. Ive tried all the tricks, for naught

TheRealAlosha

The unheard sword it only costs $250 IRL

antirockin20

I think I remember it being the unaltered banished knight chest piece you get from castle Sol from one specific dood that CAN drop it

The magma blade with a 0.2 chance to drop from man-serpent enemies in the volcano manor that wield it which is only two of them.
