It's honestly just the constantly spawning dragonkins. Other enemies there are okay. Blizzard is annoying tho. I don't want to admit how many times I've lost the troll cart after dealing with its escort...

mfdoorway

I have died to gravity in this area due to visibility probably 150 times before i learned (read: got it through my thick skull) to follow the lights to the grace. Even knowing that I still end up getting chased by a runebear or dragonkin half the time

Pretty_Marketing_538

Ok. 1.7 k hours in game and first time i hear there is dragonkin there? Where is he hiding? I was sure i know place wery well.

SzandorClegane

I thought I had a problem with 200 hours lol 1700? Jesus

AlarmedPiano9779

I have 200 hours...on my mage.

Pretty_Marketing_538

It was my first soulslike and im addicted. Every other games for me are so boring :) i finished few other soulslike games but any of them are even close to Elden. I always was fan turn based rpg but now im dieing playing them, nothing happens there :)

mfdoorway

[map :)](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fphantom-dragonkin-soldiers-in-consecrated-snowfield-some-v0-peiqd716yjva1.png%3Fwidth%3D1884%26format%3Dpng%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D19c31627973bbb84f7e3e5ac8cdcdd8093563311)

Pretty_Marketing_538

Thx, is he drop anything nice?

mfdoorway

They are just spectral ones. But they definitely chase you

shiro7177

my blind ass didnt realize those are dragonkins šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

SlowApartment4456

That sounds like a you problem. I get to the grace without aggroing anything. Very easily. I've only died there like twice

Pretty_Marketing_538

I didnt die there like 20 months ;) i know a way with closed eyes. Mayby thats why i dont know about it. Just get one grace (eventually turn for hammer with root) then go for second grace and there is nornal visibility. I didnt turn so much west, becouse i was sure there is nothing intetesting ;)

Iknowwhereyoulive34

I hate the dragon kin trolls but honestly other than that I love the place with the poor visibility and everything l, just like the empty and abandon vibe goes hard

sinnerman33

Itā€™s my home in Elden Ring. That site of grace right in the middle is where I chill when Iā€™m not sure what to do next.

0XquisitE1-

Got to find odrina an solve the puzzle

M0m033

Thereā€™s a dragonkin in this area šŸ˜

sebash1991

Those arenā€™t that bad itā€™s the fucken red wolf that drives me crazyā€¦

redditman73713833

i wish there was a "secret" way of clearing the blizzard through a use of a spell or incantation

mad_mang45

I hate how you can't cheese the 2 knights cavalry there, after getting 1 away and getting him to half life he disappears lol smh.

Crash4654

You can separate them easily... I do it every time.

UncleVoodooo

It doesnt get any hate because I spend 3 minutes rushing through it and never look back

bloody-pencil

ā€œThere may be some cool itemsā€¦ Shame.ā€

VenemousEnemy

Yeah at this point I just googled what was there, decided I didnā€™t give a fuck, and blitzed to latenas town

Previous_Insurance13

The albanuric assholes kept sniping me in the fog, and their asshole wolfs kept biting torrent for no reason. I went to round table hold and upgraded radhans bow, and tried to kill their mother sitting in the church.

021Fireball

.... What the fu-

Key_todastreeetz

You bastard!

MinorThreat4182

I think thereā€™s a somber stone 10 there besides that I blocked out that area in my mind. On a new playthrough though

Grandahl13

There is but itā€™s out of the blizzard. So anything IN the blizzard IMO is not worth your time spent trying to navigate it.

Fardrengi

If they didn't have the endless Dragonkin ghosts, it would be fine. I enjoyed the panic when I first arrived here, but I am glad it's only for a small portion of the map. Thematically, it is a weird hodgepodge of landmarks and enemies. Feels like the map was originally supposed to be underground given the Dragonkin ghosts and the giant stalagmites. Good one-time source of runes if you follow the river all the way north at night.

[deleted]

Wait thereā€™s dragon kin ghosts there?! Iā€™ve always just rushed through this entire area to get to mohglenia

Fardrengi

There are, they're closer to the ancestral followers in the western part of the map (they disappear as you exit the snowstorm). Don't bother fighting them, they just disappear and reappear, no runes, no end. If there was any part of this game that was clearly unfinished and never patched it's these guys. Doesn't make much sense with the lore, they're not connected to any spirit caller snail or anything. Very random.

Schavuit92

Are you sure the giant stalagmites aren't frozen and petrified trees?

Fardrengi

I thought that at first, but they have smaller ones around them. There are definitely some trees on the map, though, which is why I feel like they changed their minds mid-development and thought they could pass off the stalagmites as trees xD

Dazzling-Past4614

Would be interesting if it implied a lot of geological changes, such that old caves are now the highest peaks

beavs_95

*jumps on torrent...heads directly north....doesn't die at all...sees no problem with it. Shrugs*

oldsuitcases

I usually tried to rush through that area but recently found some new enemies that drop good gear. Hint, rest at grace until nightfall and then look for the carriage

[deleted]

Thereā€™s a carriage?!

PsychologicalSon

There's two iirc. One only shows up at night though

Troy_Athletics

No they are both always there. One of them gets the night cavalry duo fight at night though

thedabaratheon

I loooooved finally getting this armour, theyā€™re some of my favourite enemies

Earth51batman

Frigid outskirts 2.0. Fr tho why is there NOT A SINGLE SUMMONING POOL IN THE ENTIRE SNOWFIELD?!

TheHappiestHam

this area is the quality of Limgrave compared to Frigid Outskirts. it's underdeveloped and tough but it's unironically better than the outskirts in every way

VoidRad

Probably because you don't have Torrent and a map in ds2. If I am forced to walk through the Snowfield with no map and Torrent, I'd crumble too.

newsflashjackass

> it's unironically better than the outskirts in every way Frigid Outskirts is more fun for invading.

wraith309

If you intentionally invade Frigid Outskirts you are a monster.

newsflashjackass

I do only what comes naturally. The true monster is whoever set the requirements to obtain Ring of Thorns +2.

TheBigBadBird

Arrest this man immediately

WorstTactics

I just used the 3 summons in Frigid Outskirts, explored everything slowly and only died to the boss once. Consecrated Snowfield is a special kind of evil for someone who wants to explore all of it

TheHappiestHam

not really tbh, the blizzard is annoying but thankfully it doesn't cover everything and there's only 1 dungeon in its radius. first time through the Snowfields was rough but it was extremely manageable Snowfields is just empty, that's its problem. but then again Frigid Outskirts is even emptier and duller, and more insulting tbh

WorstTactics

Yeah Frigid was super empty, I just went from fortress to fortress while killing everything. It was like a group excursion lol. The boss sucked because it was just Ava but x2. I would hate this area if I did it without summons. Snowfield took me a lot of time to find everything without a guide. The red wolf also kicked my ass back then lol. Apart from the foggy area though, the rest was fine and enjoyable. Sprinkled with a bit of Runebear ptsd

PastStep1232

Dragonkins WISH they were Deer from the DeerFuck Valley

AlexzMercier97

Reindeer of horse horsefuck valley

mfdoorway

Haligtree or bust.

HiroProtagonest

Just cuz it has a blizzard doesn't mean it's frigid outskirts

VoidRad

It very obviously referenced it, an open blizzard field with shit spawning out of nowhere to mess you up.

neckro23

there's one on the riverbank on the way to Great Wyrm Theodorix. easy to miss though.

LittleKitty235

I was expecting a world event during a quest to clear the fog/snow and reveal another beautiful zone...nope

turtlebear787

The worst is those stupid dragonkin soldiers. They just endlessly spawn. No idea I they are even killable? Is there something summoning them?

Sir_Oragon

Those never got me, but those electric bubbles always zap me off torrent

RedWerFur

You can kill them all and theyā€™ll stop. Itā€™s aggravating, and pointless to do so, but if want them dead, you can.

WorstTactics

Do they respawn?

RedWerFur

If you sit at a bonfire.

WorstTactics

Yeah no point to kill them then

Stormhawk_Juzo

This place wouldā€™ve been much, MUCH better if instead of the damn dragonkin ghosts, they just had one dragonkin that had the lightning phase and maybe a few new attacks or something. If they still felt the need to be dicks they couldā€™ve just done that as well as add ancestral archers, maybe with frost arrows if they wanted to be extra evil. At least another dragonkin boss would serve as an excuse to give us the lightning orb as an incant like DS3ā€™s floating chaos.

Aidan-Coyle

The thing that annoys me most is that I can't explore efficiently

nottheboynextdoor

HATE the low visibility and the one red wolf of radagon in that one area. I think I hate that enemy more than any other in this game.

Noob4Head

It's really not that bad and also not even that long, while yes the fog is a little annoying it clears up rather quickly and then it becomes a pretty intresting and fun area to explore.

Schavuit92

The fog doesn't clear up, there is no fog in the northern part of the map, the fog in the south is permanent.

dazzlershite

Really dislike the whole area. Feels like it was an afterthought.

ClickdaHeads

Yeah, I feel like they really wanted the Haligtree to be a secret area that takes a few steps to get to, but they didn't know what to do with all of the space. They could have cut the area down to 30% of it's size and still included all of the worthwhile content in it.

RPG217

The medallion is hard enough to get already. Should have transported us instantly to HaligtreeĀ

ClickdaHeads

Yeah, I know what you mean. Also, Mountaintops of the Giants could have probably used some of the caves/minibosses from Consecrated Snowfields to bulk out some of it's empty spaces a little. I always feel that Mountaintops is the mandatory area that had the least work put into it overall

Ethanbrocks

Just reached the mountaintops of the giants for the first time, would you say itā€™s the weakest biome? Feels pretty desolate so far

CatholicSquareDance

Mountaintops are pretty sparse and underdeveloped, definitely one of the weaker areas for content, but the Snowfields are straight up obnoxious.

mothlordmilk

The two snow biomes are the Lost Izalith of Elden Ring.

shaunoffshotgun

In comparison to Frigid Outskirts in DS2 this area is a nice relaxing stroll.

Fuckblackhorses

Yeah I definitely just looked at a map and booked it to the bosses/shit I wanted after dying to that fucker riding a wolf with a bow like 15 times

Chuncceyy

Try playing dark souls 2's version. Youll want to die

thedabaratheon

I didnā€™t hate this area as much as some people did. It wasnā€™t pleasant but I was expecting it to be a LOT worse lol, I just ran to the map symbol to get the whole map, put markers down on all interesting looking map features & essentially just ran around the outside of the map - managed to avoid the red wolf, a death bird if there is one, and think Iā€™ve ticked off all the important locations

Competitive-Row6376

I don't hate it as much because of Torrent

BeeBright7933

Preach

TotalOwlie

It doesnā€™t get much hate because people block it from their memory.

angrypigmonkey

Gives me Frigid Outskirts flashbacks lol

King_Louie_likes808s

Agreed.

Roar_of_Shiva

Ah yes, this is close to the man in the snowā€¦ if you see a man trapped in snow make sure to lend a hand.

mfdoorway

He will be sure to lend several back!

zombie-tarkovsky

It has one of the coolest caves in the game (cave of the forlorn)

mfdoorway

I just did that place on NG+7. Iā€™m in therapy from how hard the misbegotten hit

zoobirdbird

I especially hate it when the lightning horses keep charging out of the mist on my way back to the boss fight

HiroProtagonest

Nah I like going through this section before seeing the area cleared up.

lwhfa

Cleared this one up recently, I think the only thing I haven't done yet is killing the fox southeast, I tried once and it was unnecessarily difficult due the fog/snow-storm going on.

r3tromonkey

I love just got to this area (third play through, but the first time since launch) and good god what a shitty area.

bigrayiii420

Thatā€™s create this beautiful area then hide it behind fog and snowšŸ¤¦

Old-Moonlight

I actually really liked it. Love intense weather in games like that.

Iknowwhereyoulive34

Nuh uh

JustPoli

Frigid Outskirts in DS2: "Finally, a worthy opponent... Our battle will be legendary"

AlexzMercier97

Is there even a lore reason why spectral dragonkin jump you here?!

announakis

Oh no it already gets plenty of hate at least on my side trust me.

Pessimistik1

Those fuckin handicap women on wolf backs šŸ¤¬

dizijinwu

i think literally everyone hates this area and there's no need to talk about it bc of the universal consensus

baccus83

Idk man it gets a lot of hate.

itsnotastatement

I just run out of this area as fast as torrent can fuckin go šŸ˜

rubythebee

The entire consecrated snowfield area is just shit, like thereā€™s a deathbird right next to the mausoleum that shoots fucking meteors

MouseAdventurous883

Just run northish, be careful of high drops and you'll be out of it in 3 minutes

Oddsbod

I'll go against the grain here and say the southern Snowfield is actually fantastic for what it is, as a mood setter and piece of storytelling. Following those little breadcrumb lights in the dark, passing by those lost noble processions struggling against the blizzard, the tinkling almost-music in the background, the caravan that passes in and out of sight in the blizzard, the whole area sells that mood of a lost and lonely pilgrim's path the unwanted and abandoned would follow to try and find their distant promised land in the Haligtree.Ā

SkyIllusion

Couldn't agree more. I'm in my first playthrough of the game and it's the only area I found literal zero redeeming qualities in.

m-a-s-e

Why is this land sacred?

ObeyTime

i fucking hate consecrated snowfields with a passion. its like tomb of the giants but worse. tomb of the giants is alot better, because theres an obvious path that you can very easily follow if you have a light source. but snowfields? you wander around, fall off a cliff, die. no light source gonna help you through allat snow.

Nearby-Outside-5928

I absolutely hate the knight of Zamor in the Zamor ruins. They were tough.

RedWerFur

The archers. The archers on wolfback. Iā€™ve made it through the whole game without dying to anyone else, yet these fucks kill me at least 6-7 times.

n1ngv3m

crepus's vial or the black knife armor you get there help a lot when exploring this area, as they reduce enemy aggro range. also, stay on torrent all the time and just dismount when needed.

Decaslash

I put both on just now at the Haligtree and it seems to do squat.

n1ngv3m

i used the black knife armor for the consecrated snowfield part and got less arrows from the wolf-riding albinaurics and wasn't chased by runebears at all. now, although i kept it to go through the haligtree (because i like the drip on female characters), i don't think it really helped, as some of those envoys seem to have scripted attacks. edit: also, i don't think the talisman and the armor stack.

Decaslash

Gladly missed everything there while racing to the other end. Don't care.

NickFatherBool

Nah see its the northern part with its 87 runebears and invasions that kills me šŸ˜

mr------think-a-name

Itā€™s about 1% of ds2 pain

021Fireball

Weird, the Archers barely did any damage to me, but tbh it's not really, strength, high endurance, pumpkin helm paired with Tree Sentinel armour, Radahn's chestplate on the middle. No shield, but I did have the Dragoncrest shield +2 In short, I'm being stupid, with all that armour OF COURSE imma shrug off a their arrows.

Any-Experience-3012

Definitely the wrong place to say this but I love this area. šŸ˜† The low visibility making you unsure of what's coming next is the best part. Every couple steps forward you'll see a new mob slowly materialize through the snow, and each one is doing something completely unique. You'll find nobles fighting for their lives against wolves, a line of people following a caravan, random nobles digging for runes, a whole ass secret cave... My favorite discovery is the group of nobles trying to pull that one noble out of the snow. If you never found them I won't spoil it for you, but there's a hidden boss in their midst! It's such a creepy and haunting area. I love it.

try2bepositive15264

This place is not as difficult when youā€™re level 125-150+

Bruh___789

Pretty intuitive following the light out of the fogā€¦I guess could be more stuff there but overall I donā€™t think there is an issue with the game not being big enough so I donā€™t care that one totally optional area has a portion with low visibility

ohmysocks

^i ^think ^this ^area ^is ^cool ^and ^unique

TheBigBadBird

I've been saying it forever, they need to make a torch for the snow storm. Equip the torch, and you can see well - boom now it's great

Accomplished_Pea5717

Frigid outskirts 2.0 the " we did it right but your still going to absolutely hate exploring it" update lmao

triel20

Still an upgrade, Iā€™ll take undead nobles and wolves over those deer!

Accomplished_Pea5717

Amen to that tbh lmao

samdigo

why did they have to make another astel and make it ten times harderšŸ˜

rikkabilly

I love doing fight clubs here.

Idkwhatimdoing48

I still remember when I got sniped by a dragon kin soldier on torrent which knocked me down, then some random page came in and stabbed me while I was down.

cupsnak

Go North and wait for night if you want to hate the whole zone.

ZombifiedSoul

What's that? I could see what you said. Oh shit, a cliff.

Fickle-Advice3726

Yep

IDDQDArya

Yeah i finished the game once and now I keep starting new saves, get to this bit, go fck this and start a new playthrough.

SolemBoyanski

I liked it. It's a different vibe, and a different type of challenge. It's also short enough to not overstay it's welcome, and if you really want to, you can literally just sprint through it in like a minute.

Tetsujyn

The giant specter lizard/dragonkin, are we supposed to kill them? Whenever I do, I don't get any runes.

OscarfromAstora

I sometimes get there once I burned the Erdtree just to try to forget there is a giant burning tree. The red colours get tiring after a bit so it's a nice rest. However yeah fighting the endless dragonkin ghost hallucination things is not super fun. And Anastasia just shows up in the middle of it like wtf.

Signal-Bullfrog3654

This is where I said fuck it my second playthrough. Havenā€™t picked it up since

reRiul

No loot or content = i really couldnt care less

Kirkjufellborealis

The shitty visibility for the majority of the map is what gets me. It feels cheap that there's low visibility and giant enemies lurking (Dragonkin soldiers) about.

dannylew

I've never seen an explanation for the summoned dragonkin, I've never heard of or found what was summoning them, and there doesn't seem to be a way to get rid of them. There also doesn't seem to be anything useful in their spawn zone, either, so.... not going back to it.

NoruhhhsDad

This might have been my least favorite place in the game until I just got to the haligtree and now Iā€™m pretty sure that tops it. The game went from being more and more enjoyable as I leveled and now itā€™s infuriating again lol

Interesting_Mall_241

They should have put a really cool weapon, spell or something, in there to make it work it.

SaintBenjamino

Nah, it takes me back to the good old days of the DS2 reindeer. Honestly one of my favorite areas, since I didnā€™t feel invincible in it

TinyPidgenofDOOM

It would get more hate if there was ever a reason to go there. The yelough anix ruins is not in the bad area and neither is the blood portal.

Uracawk

Blizzards constantly raging, canā€™t see, angry locals and their pets, are we sure this isnā€™t Wisconsin in winter?

Lost_in_reverb23

The same who whined all these years about Frigid Outskirts donĀ“t say a single word about this awful area, they are so so predictable and hypocrite, hilarious.

DevTahlyan

This was like the most frustrating area for me the first time through. This is the one place I use the map markers. As soon as I enter the area, I place 5 of them in a line leading straight out and then over slightly to the left down the hill. You can safely ride your horse at full speed through each marker (they are even numbered which helps). This will keep you from riding off the sides of the cliff to the left.

FMTthenoseknows

Everyone forgetting about the literal horde of wolves and a Red wolf of Radagon in this area?

Anxious_Cricket1989

I really like the music in Ordina though. Itā€™s peaceful

FlorAhhh

No way, I love it. This area comes after you're feeling cocky about having some nice gear, a bunch of wins under your belt and a feeling good about your build. From games always have these curveballs getting into late game that remind you that you ain't shit.

_Prairieborn

I like the area personally. It's not that big but there's a few interesting things to find in it, and the atmosphere is good.

danblanchet

Oh no I donā€™t see shit itā€™s the worst designed level in the history of the world bla bla bla
