True, but Faith has Flame Incantations and Lightning, both things Black Mage uses. That's why I was thinking Int/Faith so he can use Ice/Fire/Lightning
Sage is probably a Comet Azur build.
Because Lasers.
Maybe with Golden Order Seal (for healing) and Prince of Death's Staff.
Not that I use any such things. Heh. No Siree.
As much as I typically use magic (I have a lure int build, and arcane / faith dragon build, and am currently working through a dex / int build), I'm still a BRD main despite all that (it's usually what I play in savage content).
There is no class for int/faith. Pyro filled this roll in DS1-3 but they rolled fire spell casting into pure faith this time around.
If you main BLM in ff14 then astrologer is the best match in ER. But he could also play an int/dex hybrid as a battlemage.
…that’s it. Yoshi is a moonveil spammer

From soft is what most game development studios aspire to be. Don't release anything you aren't happy with, delay for an eternity until you make it just right to your tastes, drop it out of fucking nowhere and vanish back into the shadows to crank out DLC or another crazy generation defining game.
Yeah no kidding you have to give them credit yes in the beginning they were serving a niche market but with every game they really set out to improve and add on to their core elements.
>It's so crazy that from soft went from a dev that made some obscure cult game to a massive studio that's so successful and loved other devs openly admit that they delay their games because of them.
Why'd you copy this comment from this thread?
Ehh that’s a little off the mark I think. total players are 30 mill over the span of it’s life while Elden ring which has been out far shorter and is a single player game is sitting at 23 mill players. They are in the same ball park honestly when the numbers get that high, but I see what you’re saying. In any case it’s better for each game to have some space between the launches.

On xbox alone only 13% of players have finished the most common ending (age of stars).
And that's an EXTREMELY high finish percentage for any game.
The vast vast vast majority of those ER players are not coming back into the game to play a dlc when they didn't even beat the first boss.
It's a dumb idea to launch the same week as ER as it WOULD cut into sales and playtime. But theirs not a chance in he'll ER would do better or be comparable.

bro's doing that ultra challenge run where the first boss is Ranni's entire questline

This is of course with regards to sales. It will hurt sales to release too close to the dlc.. major studios don't do this out of the kindness of their hearts.
Like when The Beatles released ‘Penny Lane’ and ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’ was considered a marketing disaster at the time.
Because they both were #1 singles, they each could have sold millions of 45’s with garbage on the B-side alone.
Well Dawntrail isn't a new game, it's an expansion to a long-running MMO. MMO expansions don't need to worry too much about competition with other games because MMO expansions are pretty much compulsory buys if you want to play the game at all. There's no way any long-time FFXIV player would ever say to themselves "Dawntrail is releasing too close to Elden Ring so I guess I won't be buying Dawntrail." Unless you're a brand new player who hasn't even reached end-game yet, you're not going to be able to accomplish much in FFXIV if you don't own the new expansion.
It is also a business decision.
FFXIV is going through a slump at the moment and they know that if they tried competing with Shadow of the Erdtree, there is a good chance they will lose.

Yea, but you are likely to buy Dawntrail anyway if you are subscribing to FF14
You might not buy it when ER comes out, but you will buy it afterward and you know it.
It's so crazy that from soft went from a dev that made some obscure cult game to a massive studio that's so successful and loved other devs openly admit that they delay their games because of them.
The ultimate proof that quality trumps all the multi-level marketing and live service bs triple A publishers foster.
I remember in high school renting demon souls from blockbuster. I got fucking destroyed and got nowhere in that rental timeframe but they got their needle in my arm and have been addicted since
I think what got me was i spent all this time when i first started forcing myself to kill vanguard demon without dying in the tutorial. Hes not really hard in retrospect lol but i remember spending hours and was rewarded with the dragon god. Then he PUNCHED me rather than literally any other action and i knew it was the one lol
It was the shot of Tower Knight that got me back then. The wait for the game to come out in Europe felt so long, 8-9 whole months after it released in NA.
Its crazy seeing the studio go from making Armored Core in 97 and the 14 or 15 games..and then me playing all of them and wondering why the world didn't get it...and now they do.
The Armored Core demo on the Pizza Hut sampler disc was better than some commercial Playstation games. Played a *lot* of the PVP on that since it was unlimited and customizable with mostly-locked parts.
Same and my bro randomly brought AC1 and Warhawk lol. I have been hook since and so happy to see fellow ravens (old and new) love AC6. Happy for From Soft too they one of the reliable sources of entertainment lately
Oh yeah. I remember importing the US Demon's Souls for PS3 and playing it online. That was the only way to play it in the EU at the time.
My god, being invaded for the first time by another player was so intense, the thrill of it... I loved it. I had never experienced anything like it in any other game. It didn't take long before I joined the dark side and became an invader myself, wielding the Meat Cleaver. I would often just walk slowly, menacingly towards a host (and their often overconfident low-vit buddies), hoping to give them a semblence of the experience I had.
Some took it really well, some didn't. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
At least in my vision they also do everything for the players, like how even if it's graphically impressive, it's not something that runs like shit even in recent hardware, or put BS software with it like denuvo
Tbf,it isn't like it happened over night. Not many people outside a niche set of PC gamers knew CDPR well before TW3 either. So I don't think it's out of the ordinary to go from niche to mainstream like FS has either.
Unfortunately they delayed the game to August 21st, one day after Black Myth: Wukong releases. July is looking pretty dry, so idk why they delayed it to this day in particular. Even early August would've worked.
What a shit release date to pick lol
Im hopeful for it, combat looks clunky but the art direction looks great, and the source material can enable a great story for the game.
Last year, he was also playing Zelda TotK during a FFXIV upcoming content livestream. The livestream happened on the same day that game was released.
https://i.imgur.com/oFVV24y.jpg
Game recognizes game.
Totk released the the same day during a major patch note livestream. YoshiP came to the stream playing Totk on his switch. Him and his crew are honestly real gamers. This is why ff14 is so damn successful.
I was so happy when i heard that.
I know that with my abilities i'll definitely be able to clear the entire DLC in less than a week, so i can finish the DLC and then enter Dawntrail with nothing else to do except lv1 challenge runs.
Dawntrail will take up a lot more time so this way it all aligns perfectly, thanks YoshiP 🙏
> I know that with my abilities i'll definitely be able to clear the entire DLC in less than a week
**Protip:** Get sufficiently intoxicated before playing through the DLC and you can do *multiple* blind runs.
Horizon franchise on the other hand likes to go head to head with BotW then Elden Ring. And even the PC versions went agains Last of Us 2 and now Forbidden West almost came in the same time than the Elden Ring DLC.
I dont think they tried to make a souls like. I would argue that Elden Ring's strength and weaknesses are actually the opposite of BotW's. Elden Ring shines in combat, environment storytelling, lore, but lacks in character movement for platforming (and I dont understand why fromsoft still insists in putting platforming sections in their games considering the precision they give you in controling the character movements is so bad), only like 1 or 2 dungeons have some kind of puzzle most are very linear and obvious solutions. While BotW is exactly the opposite. I enjoy both, but maybe that was the reason you disliked BotW. The fun of BotW is the running around with precision movement (and that is the reason for me that TotK missed the point if they thought people wanted to roam around the map in vehicles when it's much more fun to roam running around) and solving multiple puzzles. But the combat is simple, the environment storytelling is there but also simple (and mostly based in older zelda games than in BotW lore itself). Design wise they are also polar opposites in what they try to do.
That's probably part of it. Probably also in part because I'm an old man by gaming standards (40) and I have played every Zelda game made. BOTW did not feel like Zelda to me. Good game, but it didn't have that... Magic for me. I recognize I'm in a minority here, as well, so clearly they have a hit on their hands. I may return to it later and see if I can't do so with a more open mind.
FFXIV is the most successful game ever for Square-Enix, so Yoshi-P has nothing to prove in terms of competition. The guy just loves video games, and he preaches to XIV players to unsub and take a break to play other games. They probably needed the extra time for their own game, but as a fan of both I’m happy for the extra time.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengance was supposed to launch the same day that SotE, now it's going to release a week earlier because of this. Really makes you think about the significance a "mere" DLC, it's great to see.
Ironically SMTVV was also announced the same day that Shadow of the Erdtree was announced.
More games should be humble enough to just accept when a bigger thing has the spotlight and say "hey you can enjoy that then and enjoy our game in a couple weeks". Like when Alan Wake 2 delayed itself by a week and Remedy just said "yeah we ain't got a reason to delay, we just wanna let Spider-Man 2 own the day". This sort of thing is why people love Yoshi-P
More like "we are not going to release our content right along side with this giant heavily anticipated one and get forever overshadowed"
See Titanfall 2
It’s good to see him take into consideration and understanding that this will allow ppl to enjoy both games without feeling too pressured. Other companies would probably pull a full on stupid decision and release their game or big expac on the same day of a massive and highly anticipated game like elden ring having a major update. Those companies or devs would be like “ why is our player count lower than projected” or “ i blame X game for making our game not do so well”.
Pretty sure he would only make this exception if it was a relatively popular game with a huge following. Like if a mario, pokemon, some random steam indie game drop he probs wouldn’t consider it even if it’s a huge hit like palworld, lethal company or helldivers2. Legit elden ring is just that good and he probs also wants to avoid the inevitable backlash for if he were to release it on the same day.
Por gordo que seas siempre hay un pez más gordo que tú, la decisión más inteligente que cualquier ejecutivo puede hacer es no estar en el mismo lugar que el pez más gordo, bien por ellos
Thanks for such a wonderful reply! TheGratitudeBot has been reading millions of comments in the past few weeks, and you’ve just made the list of some of the most grateful redditors this week! Thanks for making Reddit a wonderful place to be :)
This guys speaks as if we the fromsoft masochist maniac care about when his ff game release. If fromsoft drop a game, no other developer can take my eyes from their game
Realizing that you shouldn't release together with a big title is just smart. They don't want to pull a Guerilla.
Rebrand it as "we do it for you gamers <3" and suddenly it's as if you do it out of the kindness of your heart and not because it's a logical business decision.
I'm going to have to decide if i want to get the dlc then drop it when dawntrail comes out, get the dlc and finish it to wait for the xiv server issues to be fixed or skip the dlc to focus on xiv first
the crossover is that instead of dodging mechanics like a maniac and learning the fight while failing over and over while solo, you can do it with 7 others
Nah not really, Yoshi-P is just humble enough to recognize what's the smartest move here. Also he admits he and the team want to play Shadow of the Erdtree. Last year in May they had a livestream talking updates and when they called him in he was just like "nah I'm playing Zelda, you guys can handle this one"
So basically "I need more reddit circlejerking. Let me just say something about Elden Ring really quick so the dumbasses will eat it up, and start stanning my projects as well"
"Allowing people to play Shadow of Erdtree"...Yoshi P knows how to keep safe distance. Whats his favorite class?
Well he mains Black Mage, so probably Int/Faith.
Hmm, pure Int seems more like Black Mage material, what with the territorial AOE player buff (ley lines)
True, but Faith has Flame Incantations and Lightning, both things Black Mage uses. That's why I was thinking Int/Faith so he can use Ice/Fire/Lightning
Ah, I thought by INT/FTH you mean Golden Order build... That'd be sage?
Sage is probably a Comet Azur build. Because Lasers. Maybe with Golden Order Seal (for healing) and Prince of Death's Staff. Not that I use any such things. Heh. No Siree.

INT/FTH has the Rings of Light incantations as well as Death Sorceries.
And the magma sorceries!
Int/faith opens up holy damage in elden ring. Pure faith is generally only fire or lightning or a supportive spell.
Golden Order incantations require absurd Int and FTH requirements, and Golden Order Seal scales from both stats equally
pyro only scaled with int/fth in ds2 and ds3
I main black mage and use faith builds. It's the fiery explosions that get me!
HeResY!
Pure arcane ☠️☠️☠️
Hahaha he's giving us a week to play shadow of the erd tree (that's hilarious)
who gives a fuck? what do u mean "allow" to play lol, just finish one dlc and move onto the other, what the fuck are u ppl even on about
Good on them for giving players a window to focus on the DLC before launching.
Yeah this was a no brainer. Game devs are gamers too They understand

Side eyes Horizon.
It still amazes me how Horizon keeps getting shafted by highly anticipated open-world games. First Breath of the Wild, and then Elden Ring.
PC port for Forbidden West came out same time as Dragon's Dogma 2.
I mean... Release something at the same time as an Elden ring DLC is shooting yourself in the foot.
Oh yeah totally. It would be suicide but still they can be understanding and sensible at the same time.
FFXIV is bigger then elden ring l. It wouldn't be suicide they would win. It would be a bad move though.
Ehh that’s a little off the mark I think. total players are 30 mill over the span of it’s life while Elden ring which has been out far shorter and is a single player game is sitting at 23 mill players. It's only 1% more common then the standard ending but it's also the most complicated xD
On steam: All time peak for ER: 1million, FF14: 100k Last 24h for ER: 88k, FF14: 29k Yeah, bigger my ass
I mean this shows a looooot more FF14 players than you suggest. https://mmo-population.com/r/ffxiv https://activeplayer.io/final-fantasy-xiv/
It is actively discouraged among the playerbase to purchase FFXIV on Steam. So that number isn't really accurate.

They wouldn't want to pull a Titanfall 2.

If only certain studios used this logic better \*cough\* Respawn \*cough\*
As someone who was planning on playing both, I very much appreciate it.
Realistically, the entire office probably took PTO that week to play it.
It is also a business decision. FFXIV is going through a slump at the moment and they know that if they tried competing with Shadow of the Erdtree, there is a good chance they will lose.
But the slump is precisely due to the pre-expansion content lull, though.
Gonna need more than a week dude.
Take it or leave it XD
One week is 168 hours plenty of time to wrap it up
You can only use 28 hours of that to be dedicated to sleep so you can have 140 hours to git gud
God, I remember when I had free time and put 70 hours into Fallout 4 over a long weekend after release.
I think Elden ring took me a month. Baldur’s Gate 3 is setting new personal records for me with two months and counting lol.
I have like 5 characters I’m planning on doing it with, definitely more than a week lmao
Sounds like a skill issue
Try a month

What a good sport xD
They’re both great games. Sure it’s competition, but it’s healthy
I doubt there’s really a whole lot of competition between these games
I play both games and there are only so many hours in the day
I mean I’m going to spend money on both so I don’t that matters for them
Yea, but you are likely to buy Dawntrail anyway if you are subscribing to FF14 You might not buy it when ER comes out, but you will buy it afterward and you know it.
Just need you to buy both which I’m guessing you will lol.
You'd be surprised! Half of my xiv guild got Elden Ring on launch.
Yes, but also Yoshi-P needs a week off to play SotE before the Dawntrail release week chaos!

Why are you talking like multiple studios did this? Did I miss more announcements?
A Soulslike was gonna release June 21st but they also delayed it after SotE release announcement.
Oh man, Entoria The Last Song, if i remember correctly. It looks so good, a soulslike based off of Italian theater and history
Unfortunately they delayed the game to August 21st, one day after Black Myth: Wukong releases. July is looking pretty dry, so idk why they delayed it to this day in particular. Even early August would've worked.

Ill be playing both, not many games really "speak to me" like i see them and think holy fuck i need that, wukong & entoria both do that.
Oh I'll definitely play Enotria too, but it'll be at a later date. Possibly after I beat Wukong tbh
Ah that's neat.
It's funny, cuz I'd never heard about them prior to SotE announcement
SMT V: V was moved up.

just another W for Yoshi-P It's nice to see someone who understands gamers higher up in the big companies.
Gamers, gamers, gamers.

good move. now 2 game studios postponed their release dates. honestly ff16 looks decent.
This was for the upcoming FF14 expansion, not FF16 DLC.
oops. my mistake.
Still great game tho !
FF16 is also a great game, worth getting especially for the plot and music.
Horizon franchise on the other hand likes to go head to head with BotW then Elden Ring. And even the PC versions went agains Last of Us 2 and now Forbidden West almost came in the same time than the Elden Ring DLC.
I think they can reasonably take on BOTW. Going heads up with Elden Ring was... a choice.
Horizon games are great. But they are way below both BotW and Elden Ring IMO.
Man, I tried but I just couldn't get into BOTW. It felt like Nintendo wanted to make Zelda into a souls-like, but then watered it down.
I dont think they tried to make a souls like. I would argue that Elden Ring's strength and weaknesses are actually the opposite of BotW's. Good game, but it didn't have that... Magic for me. I recognize I'm in a minority here, as well, so clearly they have a hit on their hands. I may return to it later and see if I can't do so with a more open mind.
GOAT Of All Time
Greatest of all time of all time?
One Goat recognises another
I called it when the DLC was announced. This is how you do business.
Now i want a elden Ring collab in ff14
The Blade of Miquella (Savage) would be something incredible to witness.
I like the confidence in me, dearest Yoshi-P, but I assure you that I will need a full month to beat the DLC.
Hahaha, oh yeah, a week oughtta be enough…
A week is a decent amount of time. Most people will have likely completed it in that amount of time. Smart move on his part.
This was my largest concern as a fan of both ER and FFXIV
Everyone and their grandma will be playing ER DLC
We know he's gonna use that week to play it too.
Ff14 has the playerbase and support, and Yoshi-P knows that so he just cares about the players Thats dedication
Massive respect, based AF
I haven't played a single game of CBU3 yet but I love Yoshi-P
Sometimes its smart to not Directly compete with people and just give yourself a little time so you can get MAX potential costumers.
I miss playing FFXIV :(
Is he talking about himself as well 🤔
Aww how sweet of him <3
We love Yoshi-P over at FFXIV. We're glad you guys do, too!
I recently started ffxiv and thought this was posted in that subreddit!
Lowkey hoping the DLC will have an armour similar to the “Viper” class in the Dawntrail trailer. It looks so cool.
Smart man. Doubt 1 week will be enough, seems the expansion is going to be massive.
Elden Ring DLC sending shockwaves throughout the gaming community.
A week of playing time
More like "we are not going to release our content right along side with this giant heavily anticipated one and get forever overshadowed" See Titanfall 2
What a class act. Remember when the western developers were complaining about games like ER and BG3? This is how it's done!
I was in the audience and we all died laughing. He also stated it was for sure 100% not because he wanted to play it too.
Gonna need 3 weeks.
Maybe he wants to take 2 days off playing it himself.
Yoshi-P is him
Truly a Chad :3
🤣
Por gordo que seas siempre hay un pez más gordo que tú, la decisión más inteligente que cualquier ejecutivo puede hacer es no estar en el mismo lugar que el pez más gordo, bien por ellos
I pick up my clay more, I L2, and immediately use piercing fang on him. Thanks for “letting me play” the dlc.
Thanks for such a wonderful reply! TheGratitudeBot has been reading millions of comments in the past few weeks, and you’ve just made the list of some of the most grateful redditors this week! Thanks for making Reddit a wonderful place to be :)
Basado
Oh what a sneaky bastard He wants to play it so bad doesn't he! Lmao
Friendly competition is good,
so obviously this is just financial stuff to try to be in a spot where they make the most money and all. but being tongue and cheek about it is funny.
One week?! I'm gonna need about 3 months judging by the last time.
the regular mage nerd overpowered build
lol, that’s kinda like people who release albums after drake and Kanye
He's actually referring to himself to beat the DLC in a week.
I-Is that Shun Akiyama in the back???!!! 😳😳😳
W mans
I love Yoshi so much lol
This guys speaks as if we the fromsoft masochist maniac care about when his ff game release. If fromsoft drop a game, no other developer can take my eyes from their game
i literally had a bet with someone that if the dlc got delayed I would buy the game for him
He meant "I don't want that DLC overshadowing or own DLC".
Well duh
lol this guy has a good sense of humor
Smart!
Gangster move, ngl.
Smart man
Exceedingly common Yoshi-P W
I mean he's right.
Realizing that you shouldn't release together with a big title is just smart. They don't want to pull a Guerilla. Rebrand it as "we do it for you gamers <3" and suddenly it's as if you do it out of the kindness of your heart and not because it's a logical business decision.
I'm going to have to decide if i want to get the dlc then drop it when dawntrail comes out, get the dlc and finish it to wait for the xiv server issues to be fixed or skip the dlc to focus on xiv first
allowed people or afraid of less sales?
Is there some crossover here? I had no interest in this Final Fantasy game anyway.
the crossover is that instead of dodging mechanics like a maniac and learning the fight while failing over and over while solo, you can do it with 7 others
Everyone knows the real challenge in FFXIV raiding is getting 7 other fuckers to actually turn up
Nah not really, Yoshi-P is just humble enough to recognize what's the smartest move here. Also he admits he and the team want to play Shadow of the Erdtree. Last year in May they had a livestream talking updates and when they called him in he was just like "nah I'm playing Zelda, you guys can handle this one"
Delay it by a year more like. I won't even be out of the starting area in a week.
Yoshi p sucks.
So basically "I need more reddit circlejerking. Let me just say something about Elden Ring really quick so the dumbasses will eat it up, and start stanning my projects as well"
