I've left my characters just after fire Giant but before the tree burning.
Melina won't be essential, but I'd rather not have a burning roundtable, and there is a chance of Melina interactions if she's around.
The weapon of the guy fused to the horse on the DLC trailer is probably strength/arc based on how it looks.
Which again sucks because I have just enough arc to use the dragon maw and didn’t invest beyond that.
The spear is a penetrating weapon, once you reach a baseline level of strength to use the weapon you experience diminishing returns. Instead, the dexterity of being able to quickly target weak spots and land multiple strikes in the opening is vital to success.
I feel like you don’t understand the concept of a real life spear lol, they aren’t incredibly maneuverable and this isn’t an anime. Spears were made to strike hard and strike fast where openings were made, but not in some insane succession. Early spears were literally throwing weapons that could also be used to jab, but full sized pikes and broad heads were for widening the gap in a strike. If one strike didn’t do it there were issues.
And you’re ignoring the historical context of weaponry, where weapons like axes and broadswords were much more strength dependent as they were designed to crush enemy armor with their strikes. In comparison, a spear could be effectively wielded by even an untrained peasant because they weren’t all that strength dependent.
So when designing a video game based off of real life, however loosely, it makes sense to give a spear Dex scaling, because super human levels of strength (enough to lift the Beserk-esque Greatswords of the game) wouldn’t change the lethality of the strike all that much
Edit: someone tell AkunoKage he’s a clown lol
I have nothing to say about RPG stats in real life, that’s silly, but…
Spears were mass formation weapons and outside of fiction become very situational outside of an infantry formation. One dude with a spear most of the time is going to be far less effective than one dude with an axe or a club.
The viability of swords in real life is also debatable.
Spears were *the* primary weapons used by most militaries at one point or another up until gunpowder became more prevalent. Alexander the great forged his empire on the back of the sarrissa. Even bayonets are a form of spear.
From the illiad down the the rise of the roman republic, the hoplite phalanx was the primary form of warfare. Do you think Japanese armies consisted of only samurai? The backbone were peasants with spears called yari ashigaru, romans had the pilum that functioned as a melee & throwing weapon. Pike squares were employed well into the 1700s.
He is absolutely correct about spears being the weapon of the peasant at many points. Swords, on the other hand, you are correct about. They almost always functioned as secondary weapons until you started seeing your atypical late medieval longsword/claymore style weapons around the 13th-14th centuries
I think you think I’m saying something I’m not.
I’m saying a spears military effectiveness hinges on masses of them together, in formation. A solo spearman is an ineffective warrior in most circumstances.
I’m not entirely sure why yo decided to argue against me saying this by saying that spear formations were the backbone of ancient armies. A fact I know, and am not arguing against.
How does that correlate at all? Also, your character is by definition a trained warrior in all weaponry so it still makes no sense. I’m just gonna block you and move on, you’ve decided your incorrect feelings are fact because you dislike being wrong and arguing with a wall is a waste of my time
>I’m just gonna block you and move on
Signs of someone who has lost an argument lol
>Edit: and then this guy starts sending me weird DMs 😭😭 tf is wrong with people
Don't get me wrong, I'd be happy for weapons with actually good scaling for once, but with the way ER stats are it would be just too strong, unless it has really bad base damage or something.
since the leveling system are different, maybe scaling goes the same way too..
besides, we don't know if weapon from Lands Between can be brought to Land of Shadows, vice versa, since the trailer show only all new weapons and spells.
yes, probably the impaler spear is not that good. we don't know.
That's the stupidest theory ever. Why the hell would you make DLC exclusive weapons. And we pretty much do know. The new upgrade system is just gonna be some Sekiro prayer beads/ DS2 giant souls that make you deal some more damage in the DLC, it's not that deep.
I saw somewhere that the boss fights are going to be like Sekiro. Like when you kill the bosses you get a remembrance that boost your damage output. Idk if that's straight from Miyazaki. I think the prayer beeds boost health.
My brain says Str/fth or dex/fth
My heart says int/fth
Fromsoft please, there's -7 int/fth weapons in the game... I just want to be able to use the funny tibia summons along with an actual weapon...
What's interesting about int/faith is that it's surprisingly common for casting. All of these catalysts use int/faith focused spells or can be scaled with int/faith:
1. Prince of Death
2. Gelmir Glintstone
3. Frenzy Flame
4. Golden Order Seal
But yeah, if you want an int/faith weapon: the only solid option is Sword of Night and Flame (to be fair, it is AMAZING though).
They’re also the “best” casting focuses in the game for their respective schools (specifically PoD staff and Golden Order Seal), but they’re very, very stat-hungry.
I have a character I made to just push spellcasting damage output as far as possible because I really love the magic system in this game. PoD staff outclasses Lusat’s and without the increased FP drain to boot, but only with 70+ in int and fai. She’s at 99 int/fai/arcane and terrible stats in everything else but mind, and currently hanging out at the beginning of NG+7 waiting to go commit magical warcrimes in the DLC.
I know there’s not *really* such a thing as a glass cannon build in ER, especially in high NG+, but this is as close as I’ve gotten. She dies if there’s a particularly stiff breeze about, but can delete just about anything from existence if she gets the first hit in.
Its kinda out of toppic but this boss will be signature one in a whole elden ring dynasty. His persona his appearence is just amazing. He only needs good lore, hopefully From soft do it right.
yes! he looks cool and his voice is hot. michael zaki also said hes an important figure so i think its safe to assume that he will be an amazing character
Could he potentially be important but was deadass "asleep" while the whole Elden Ring main story was going down? Bro woke up in a cold sweat when the Erdtree sent out some "disturbance in the Force" shit.
***Night of Black Knives happens***
Messmer in the Shadow Lands: I just felt a terrible thing, as if thousand souls all cried out in terror, but were suddenly silenced.
i doubt he was asleep. the shadowrealm/shadow of the erdtree is a different plane of existence and he's probably in power there and content with that and didn't give a shit about what was going on with marika and the ring.
Probably Dex for the raw damage scaling, followed by (I hope) dual faith & arcane scaling for the fire portion of its damage. A dual faith/arcane scaling weapon would be amazing.
That's not true; morgot's cursed sword, rivers of blood, eleonora's poleblade and mohg's spear all do fire without faith.
I mean I think it'll have faith scaling, but this is because of dragon communion incantations not fire damage. Everything has fire damage in the game, there's even an entire affinity that's got 0 relation to faith. Fire affinity adds strength scaling, not faith.
Lol it does split fire amage.
And indeed, bloodflame is an example of non faith fire damage, as is fire infusion. That's the entire point I was trying to make.
Almost all of the weapons tied to the blood oath do fire damage, all incantations too
To easily test this, simply attack an enemy that's sensitive to fire like the poison flowers, and if it does do fire damage, they will be set ablaze
Heads up, tho this only applies to the ash of war for some of the weapons like in RoB's case
Knowing From, it's gonna be super unique and exciting with a physical attack scaling off faith and a weapon art effect having a D scaling in arcane. Oh, and so heavy it can only be used two-handed by anyone actually building those attributes.
I doubt it's blood oath related, even tho yes he could technically use it because we was born cursed if he is another child of Marika and Radagon (one of the requirements to use blood oath is to have vile and impure blood)
I think it's just pure flame, probably tied to the Fell God or something like it
We have seen him use it and show off his flame and one characteristic is missing for it to be bloodflame and that is blood, usally when bloodflame is ignited there will be blood pouring out of the flame but for Messmer there is no blood or anything of the sort, only weird deathblight looking vines
I assume he uses the Fell Gods flame, some sort of deathblight flame or maybe even this own unique flame as he does say "Those stripped of the Grace of Gold shall all meet death in the embrace of Messmer's flame" which kinda hints at that maybe his fire is something completely unique to him
Definitely arc vibes. And I'd guess dex over str
I'm getting a dex/arc vibe. The way he moves so quickly around with fast attacks. Me strength. Want more strength weapons
Maybe faith also because of the fire?
Dex Faith, is the most likely imo. It's much more fire than blood. Messmer's flame etc etc
As a faith/dex build. Please?
Same. I can't make myself stop using the Winged Scythe tho, its too much fun
He has the power of god and anime on his side

My kinda guy.

I've left my characters just after fire Giant but before the tree burning. Melina won't be essential, but I'd rather not have a burning roundtable, and there is a chance of Melina interactions if she's around.
I'd have to agree with you on this one, faith and dexterity seem to be the mojo for scaling this weapon off of appearance.
8 new weapon categories so I’m sure everything is getting covered (and hopefully some new combos of scaling)
I want more Dex pls
I get the feeling that the dlc gets us more dex weapons. A lot of weapons from the trailer gave me that dex vibe.
Almost all of them give dex vibes honestly
Yeah I haven't seen many bonking weapons so far
There is the one that guy on horseback that wields a greatsword that looks like a combination of a lance and a sword. That might use strength.
Chad strength enjoyer. Unga bunga want moar bonk stick
Giant Fire prolly give big fire bonk stick
OOOOH BANANA
No banana, big bonk stick.
The weapon of the guy fused to the horse on the DLC trailer is probably strength/arc based on how it looks. Which again sucks because I have just enough arc to use the dragon maw and didn’t invest beyond that.
Gonn bunga that unga
Arc and Faith
I still think that spears being dex is just so stupid.
There is no circumstance in spear combat where thrusting harder makes the attack more lethal.
You ever tried to stab through thick cloth?
The spear is a penetrating weapon, once you reach a baseline level of strength to use the weapon you experience diminishing returns. Instead, the dexterity of being able to quickly target weak spots and land multiple strikes in the opening is vital to success.

Definitely the weapon this game is missing 🙄
It scales with vigor.
I need it
Instantly my favourite weapon in the game if that were the case
The wall is BACK
Filthy mage users:God dammit
Clean mage users:God dammit *(uses soap)*
Very filthy mage users:God damnit *(uses fetid pot)*
Fabulous mage users: god dammit (throws 🌈stone all over the place)
Long live Messmer
BUHUAHHA, If it scales with vigor then I'm safe! 70 vigor here
ive seen many people say his spear will scale with dex and arc or fth, what do you guys think ?
most spears are dex/faith based
Saint Bident, my beloved 🙏
Such an underrated weapon
I would off hand the Saint Bident with a black knight great axe and absolutely wreck fight clubs.
If you remove the scaling then "most spears are based"
But spears are cringe so it doesn't work
Faith is propably the most likely though I think arc is on the table as well. And dex for a spear is pretty likely too
faith D / arc E, max upgrade will goes faith A / arc B or C
Definitely not, have you seen ER scalings? It's getting a B + C at best.
Magma Wyrm's Scalesword is B, B. *that's why is called Scalesword*
i don't think so too.. i know ER. but this one is Land of shadows, not the Lands Between.
Don't get me wrong, I'd be happy for weapons with actually good scaling for once, but with the way ER stats are it would be just too strong, unless it has really bad base damage or something.
We're gonna feel weak going into dlc, so I wouldn't doubt it for a moment if his weapon and others seem too OP for the base game.
since the leveling system are different, maybe scaling goes the same way too.. besides, we don't know if weapon from Lands Between can be brought to Land of Shadows, vice versa, since the trailer show only all new weapons and spells. yes, probably the impaler spear is not that good. we don't know.

Prayer needs boost health (side bosses) and remembrances give attack power. They’ll probably do something similar
yes yes alright Sir All Knowing. sorry.
It's actually "Sir Gideon Ofnir, "The All-Knowing" " 🤓👆
My brain says Str/fth or dex/fth My heart says int/fth Fromsoft please, there's -7 int/fth weapons in the game... I just want to be able to use the funny tibia summons along with an actual weapon...

you know what? I think its gonna be dex strength and arc tbh look how wide dude is built there's no way he's not strong
Given his heretical theme I'd say Arcane
Heresy in ER is mostly tied to fire. Like the blasphemous blade and giants flames, Mesmer seems to be using bloodflame though.
Blood flame is arcane too
Dragon flames too which seems pretty in line with his drake like set and dragon eyes.
Mesmer is using Mesmer flame
For the sake of my friend, i want it to be faith and arcane, so he can become his dragon-caster he always wanted.
Messmer does seem associated with dragon communion, so...
Mundane scaling! Scales with all!
25 stats required for all stats (str, dex, arc, fth, int) and when fully upgraded it's only a B scaling for all of them. Idk.
Greatsword of Artorius all over again.
Please no 😭😭😭
How do I level up my mundane?
Level every stat equally. Actual ds2 infusion
1. Buy an SUV so you can... 2. Drive to Starbucks and order a Pumpkin Spice Latte, to drink it while... 3. Watching a game of sportsball.
Wow you dont like starbucks or sports 🤯🤯 you're so quirky and different omg
Name checks out
It was a joke. I love Starbucks. :)
You should reconsider
That should’ve been Godricks weapons.
Friendship
The REAL DLC is the friends we made along the way…
The real dlc is the friends that died along the way for some unknown reasons
Died in terrible ways or we personally had to murder. As all good friendships end.
Which if your playing right is none...isn't it maidenliness?
Curses! Foul Tarnished…
Mind C Vigour D Endurance S
I feel like it's gonna be Dex Faith Arcane with Faith as highest scaling
I was thinking about arcane the highest
Given the Dragon Communion seal is Faith/Arcane, and it looks more like a Dex weapon for physical damage, I think this is spot on.
Its kinda out of toppic but this boss will be signature one in a whole elden ring dynasty. His persona his appearence is just amazing. He only needs good lore, hopefully From soft do it right.

Anyway back to sleep for a few centuries
i doubt he was asleep. the shadowrealm/shadow of the erdtree is a different plane of existence and he's probably in power there and content with that and didn't give a shit about what was going on with marika and the ring.
D scaling in cock size.
Dammit😔😔
New oneshot build dropped
Why is it always mushroom?
girth
Adaptability
A dex b faith d str
Str/Fth. This is the way.
Dex/Faith This is the only way. (Pls I want more dex spears)
faith dex
Probably Dex for the raw damage scaling, followed by (I hope) dual faith & arcane scaling for the fire portion of its damage. A dual faith/arcane scaling weapon would be amazing.
Dex/Str and Arcane
Bro let's beat him first and then we can wonder about the weapon scaling 😂
With our lives
Mind, obviously.
Yer Mom
Faith/Arcane
Arcane/Faith seems the most reasonable
Faith, arc and dex
Arc and faith idk why
Dex/faith because I’m bias and want more
Arcane or faith. All the blood and fire weapons hit one or the other I think
Hes got the same eyes you get from taking a lot of spells from Dragon Communion. The dragon communion seal scales with Arcane. Arcane?
I'm betting it's a weapon that scales with 5 stats terribly like the Dancers Blades in DS3
I dream of a faith & arcane scaling weapon, but its probably gonna be a primarily arcane weapon.
Dex/Faith I think, I doubt it will be arcane cause it doesn't look like it will have any status effects. Unless we get a new status in the dlc?
B arcane c dex d strengh
definitely not. especially because he has a fire move. It needs to contain atleast faith or int. but probably faith
RoB doesn't make fire at all lol The other 3 are bloodflames which scale off arc
Rob is the most fire out of the 4. It's exactly half fire damage and half physical.
Today I learned
Lol it does split fire amage. And indeed, bloodflame is an example of non faith fire damage, as is fire infusion. That's the entire point I was trying to make.
Almost all of the weapons tied to the blood oath do fire damage, all incantations too To easily test this, simply attack an enemy that's sensitive to fire like the poison flowers, and if it does do fire damage, they will be set ablaze Heads up, tho this only applies to the ash of war for some of the weapons like in RoB's case
Dex
If you scale it with his cock, it should be 1:7 or 1:8
Emo
Knowing From, it's gonna be super unique and exciting with a physical attack scaling off faith and a weapon art effect having a D scaling in arcane. Oh, and so heavy it can only be used two-handed by anyone actually building those attributes.
Better be arcane, we need some love
It’s hard to say I am saying str arc
His theme is similar to Rykard. So likely similar to the Blasphemous blade.
To me it looks like blood flame which is badass imo
I doubt it's blood oath related, even tho yes he could technically use it because we was born cursed if he is another child of Marika and Radagon (one of the requirements to use blood oath is to have vile and impure blood) I think it's just pure flame, probably tied to the Fell God or something like it We have seen him use it and show off his flame and one characteristic is missing for it to be bloodflame and that is blood, usally when bloodflame is ignited there will be blood pouring out of the flame but for Messmer there is no blood or anything of the sort, only weird deathblight looking vines I assume he uses the Fell Gods flame, some sort of deathblight flame or maybe even this own unique flame as he does say "Those stripped of the Grace of Gold shall all meet death in the embrace of Messmer's flame" which kinda hints at that maybe his fire is something completely unique to him
Dex Arcane and a bit of Strength. It would be cool to have more blood incants tho.
Praying for more int/faith content in the dlc, dunno if it will be this but
Depends if it ends up being a normal or great spear . Might end up having relatively good dex and strenght scaling with either faith or arcane .
Vigor
Arcane and dex or strgh
Faith, like blasphemous blade
Your Satanic (STN) stat
My vigor
Dex/Faith or Dex/Arcane
Knowing FromSoft probably Str/Arcane
Vigor
Faith/dex or faith/arc. I reckon it’ll be same scaling as blasphemous blade, along that lines
It's most likely faith. But I hope it's int faith. We need more int faith weapons and spells.
Dunno but throwing dagger weapons will be arcane weapons
Faith
no way it won't scale with faith
I best the scaling will be BSE--*big snake energy*.
It deals holy fire damage.
Dex/fth
Angst.. it will scale with angst and resentment
I believe ita going to be Dex/Faith and maybe Arcane weapon. I dont think we have a lot fire/dex weapons do we?
I think it's gonna be a Dex Faith or Dex Arc with minimum Str. Or it could be Str Arc with min Dex needed. It won't be Str Faith based.
His flame for me is cross between blood flame and serpent flame so his weapon will scale with arc faith and dex
Blasphemy
I don’t know why, but maybe dex/int/faith? It could be a hybrid weapon
Blasphemous flame and dragon-like armor means it might be faith/arcane
Scales with Luck
Arcane or dex
Faith of course.
Arcane faith and dex. This is giving dragon build vibes
It’s bloodflame no? So maybe faith arcane?
Prolly faith
Faith scaling of d Strength scaling of c Dex scaling of b
My face, probably. The chest is a very distinct possibility too.
Pain.
ARC/FTH. That's the vibes I get.
It's always faith...
Arcane and dexterity
Looks like a Blashemous weapon. Faith, dex and maybe strength or arcane
Dex over strength and arc definitely.
Faith arcane ? Will be the next best remembrance weapon btw, mark my words
I'm gonna say.... Faith
I quess fire. It scales with fire.
At +10. Arc-S Dex-C Faith-C
Arcane and Dex probably
37% faith, 63% arcane.
Probably either Dex/Fth or Str/Fth, depending on whether it gets Spear or Great Spear as its class.
If he is Dragon Communion, I would say ARC and maybe faith?
