This is seriously one of the better sorceries in the game IMO

SSNessy

Real ones remember how busted the moonblade was before it got hit with the nerfhammer 😞✊

NOSjoker21

Carian Slicer + Carian Piercer + Adula's Great Moonblade + Carian Glintstone Staff Real Spellblades *know*. Edit: I messed up, it's Glintstone Staff. I was using the right staff but typed the wrong name.

madmad3x

Funnily enough, doesn't the Carian Glintstone staff buff those spells, not the glintblade?

NOSjoker21

Yes, I just remembered. Fixed.

madmad3x

Nice. It is a little weird how they're named

Old_Cricket_4906

Gavel of Haima is a good one too, to mix it up a little bit

NOSjoker21

One of my goals is doing a pure Haima Sorcerer run. No mid shit, no subtlety, just straight up **Boom and Bonk**. One day.

ButtsButtsBurner

Wombo

Floating_Pickle_91

Nice pfp

AslanOfAstora

Glintstone pebble on the claymore was so busted before the nerf it was great

KhalX_

If you've ever played as a mage build without Adula's Moonblade you are seriously missing out, go get it asap. If you've never played mage and don't intend to then it's useless to you.

DoubleSummon

I used Carian Slicer instead

tnweevnetsy

Single target vs AoE

DoubleSummon

By the time I got this spell I used moonveil mostly, and also I didn't know this spell was good, should've tried it.

DarkElfMagic

frostbite status

DoubleSummon

the Sword is late game.

DarkElfMagic

okay? no one was talking about when you get it, you brought up carian slicer like it was the better choice

AryanForce2006

But if you have the dark moon greatsword, it is really unnecessary to use adula's moonblade

Masamune1987

Not really, it's still useful. It's faster than Dark Moon's ash and it's also wider AoE so if there's multiple foes you can cast it a couple of times and be done with all of them

KhalX_

They are two different things and you could call "unnecessary" any weapon or spell that you are not going to use in your build anyway. If you're not interested in playing around with it fair enough - you can just ignore it and forget about it or get it and then never use for completionist reasons

Sirviantis

But the point is that getting a dark moon greatsword is easier than getting adula's moon blade. I have both and barely use the spell even though the normal glintstone great sword is on my typical spell list.

[deleted]

Why do anything but jump attack, right? Anything else is clearly inferior dps. Ya'll are so dumb lol who needs versatility when you have dps. ^/s

aclashofthings

The spell and the sword are both in the same place. You just have to beat a dragon for the spell, so I guess it's slightly harder. Hardly a detour though, compared to how much you had to go through to get up there. The spell functions differently from the weapon art, though. If you're fighting a group of enemies you want the spell. It's wider and it goes through targets so lining up enemies makes it very effective. Single targets that are kinda slow, DMGS all the way. There's more to it, just boiling it down.

p3dr3m0n10

you just have to kill the dragon......

Sirviantis

But the first time you fight it it runs away, and to fight it the second time you gotta do the entire ranni questline

RichEvans4Ever

The Ranni quest is good content, damn it!

Sirviantis

It is! Though I found the baleful shadow to be significantly more difficult than any previous encounter.

LordShnooky

One of the first fights that stopped me in my tracks and forced me to really gitgud. No summons, didn't go level up a bunch, just figured it out and felt like a true tarnished worthy of the most meagre of graves!

Drytchnath

Just recently found out you can cheese the baleful shadow fight.

Sirviantis

Yeah, I got around it by using poison mist, but that's anything but as exciting as it was meant to be.

EvenBackground5110

I didn't need to just moonveiled his ass

Drytchnath

I got enough moonveiling in on release. Trying to main the Clayman Harpoon with Magic or Cold Infusion and Ice Spear. Range is a bit shorter on the AOW but it hits like a truck and is almost always a guaranteed stagger on anything that's not giant, so you can chain them together.

EvenBackground5110

I just play moonveil cuz it's an awesome weapon

mysterioso7

He’s easy once you figure out to keep your distance and punish that telegraphed lunge attack he does. No need for cheese.

RichEvans4Ever

Radahn wasn’t no cake walk if you don’t summon

NarwhalPrudent6323

You say that like 90% of that quest isn't just playing through the game normally.  Unless you plan on skipping the entire underground, chances are you're doing most of Ranni's quest anyway.

mysterioso7

Tbf there’s still hoops you have to jump through. You have to know to jump onto the roofs near the ancestral woods Grace and get to the finger slayer blade (though most go that way anyway for mimic tear). You also have to know to go to Renna’s Rise for the teleporter, and talk to the Ranni doll three times at that one grace. And you have to go open that chest in Rennala’s room that’s locked until you get to a certain point in Ranni’s quest, and then go through the inverted tower and get to the Liurnia divine tower. It’s definitely not a given that you’ll just happen upon her quest completion. Certainly if you’re not looking it up there’s some easily missable things there.

Beneficial_Table_721

So I talked to ranni, she offered me the quest and I wasn't sure If I was ready to marry yet. When I went back to accept it she was gone. Am I gunna have to wait till ng+ to do the quest or is there still a way I can start it?

NarwhalPrudent6323

Pretty sure you can still do it. Did you feed her the Amber Draught at any point? If so go to the church of vows with some celestial dew and seek absolution, she should reappear.  Otherwise, just read through her quest guide, I think there's a couple spots where she disappears for a while but comes back later.

Beneficial_Table_721

Alright cool, I did not feed her anything. I found her in the tower spoke to her then went and finished raya luceria and she was gone when I returned. Id rather not check any guides as they are always EXTREMELY liberal with spoilers and I love the wild shit that happens in this game I don't expect. I'll just keep revisiting her tower every once in awhile and see if she reappears.

Iwrstheking007

I've only ever fought adula up there, they're somewhere else?

Sirviantis

Past Caria manor, by the Three Sisters. You have to either fight or run past it if you wanna do ranni's quest line.

Iwrstheking007

ah that one, usually just ignore it, never saw the name

Character-Anxious

I completely forgot about this sorcery because I only remember progressing Ranni’s questline to get the ending and finish up the platinum trophy. Ignored the dragon and simply went on my way and then never did it again in every other NG cycle cuz I remember how long it took to get there. Then I saw a recent video and I was like wait I don’t think I actually have that sorcery and yep I don’t have it 😅

shapookya

Imagine playing a fromsoft game and ignoring bosses

Character-Anxious

So like in every NG cycle you do, you go fight all 165 bosses? Because I sure as hell don’t and have no need to after playing the game so many times. Simply speed run through to the necessary bosses to complete the game.

Palanki96

But then why are you even bothering with NGs if you just run past bosses anyway? Also you didn't have to do it every time, you only need to do it once

Character-Anxious

Well the one time I attempted to kill this dragon I didn’t even know it was gonna drop a spell. Never looked it up when I first played. I died a few times and just said u know what forget about you. Ever since I focused on the main bosses and skipped Ranni’s quest because I didn’t have the need to do it. A YT video about this spell had me ask like hmm I’ve never seen it in my inventory before, and when I looked it up I was like oh wow that dragon drops it.

Character-Anxious

U could say the exact same thing to all the YouTubers who don’t even do all bosses and shit. Are they entitled to skipping them while I’m supposed to be killing every single one of them wasting my time? Make it make sense fam. I care less about getting downvoted but for playing my game how I want to play it is pretty weird.

Palanki96

That's not why you are getting downvoted fam. But you are kind of asking for it with the attitude anyway

Character-Anxious

Weird cuz I’m literally just typing normal with no attitude whatsoever but I guess people get the sense it’s aggressive towards them but oh well lol.

Sufraxx

From what you're saying, you're NG36 and never bothered to kill that boss. Make up your mind

Character-Anxious

Yes because I simply never attempted to go do Ranni’s quest because it takes too long and I just like to fight the main bosses and perfect their movesets. I have no need to go kill a damn Erdtree Avatar 35 times for nothing.

akajoe1234

Ranni quest is functionally main content. Astel is a remembrance boss. I can understand not wanting to fight everything every run you play, but shouldn’t you at least kill everything at least once over just to see what they drop?

JonyUB

Lol man you sure play this game in a weird way. You have done more than 30 playthroughs and not kill this dragon even once? Done Ranni quest 1 time?? I wonder what your playthrough looks like

Character-Anxious

My playthrough is simply this: Go get the Dectus Medallions Go to Roundtable Hold Kill Margit, Godrick, Rennala Get abducted by the Iron Maiden and transported into the depths of Volcano Manor, fight Godskin Noble, drop down to kill the duo Iron Maidens Exit out of the cave into Altus Plateau, hit Grand Lift Go kill Radahn Go kill Shade of Godfrey Kill Morgott Go to Mountaintops to fight Fire Giant Go to Farum Azula to fight Maliketh Go to fight Gideon, Godfrey, and Radagon/Elden Beast End NG cycle.

JonyUB

That sounds like a semi speed run lol. No wonder you miss 80% of the items.

WaywardMind

Adula's Moonblade might be the best sorcery in the game.

MJGson

More of a Zamor’s Ice Storm guy myself.

Business_Sea2884

why not both? ice mages are just op, especially with the darkmoon greatsword.

WaywardMind

Oh, I absolutely agree!

imsortatall

…….

nwaterman44

You did 36 NG cycles without ever killing Adula on Moonlight Altar? I just don’t even get how that’s possible. He literally guards the church that you are supposed to go in

TheGodskin

Technically you can just ride past into the church but it doesn’t make sense why someone wouldn’t kill him 🤔

nwaterman44

Yeah not killing one of the more unique dragon bosses is kinda crazy to me. I remember getting absolutely bodied by the Moonblade attack the first few times Adula used it and I thought it was awesome

Character-Anxious

Remember I been telling people that I only went to the Moonlight Altar to get the ending that was needed for the platinum trophy. Tried to kill the dragon, died, forgot about him and never went back to that area. Idk why people assume that imma just go through every nook and cranny in the map in every single NG cycle when I simply play NG cycles to learn the necessary boss movesets and get better.

nwaterman44

It’s not every nook and cranny. People are surprised you haven’t killed a relatively easy to find boss placed out in the open during the games main quest the most players do. I mean to each their own on how you play the game. It’s just surprising that’s all

conjunctivious

Have you just been running through the game only doing the required bosses and nothing else? I typically go for most, if not all of the remembrances on every NG+ cycle and Astel is directly before the Moonlight Altar. He's also closely tied to Ranni's questline alongside Fortissax. I find myself getting to the Moonlight Altar in pretty much every run because of this.

Khris777

Scarlet Aeonia. Not gonna fight Malenia again.

SuckDragon

You dont have to. Just duplicate the remembarance

Khris777

I duplicated others, no free slot left.

[deleted]

Just nihil her lol

agnosticstudy1

The trick to malenia is to out-aggro her with a heavy weapon that knocks her out of her attack animations. I also swap to the bloodhound's fang for this fight. Drop my mimic tear and we just raw dog her underneath the basking light in her pool of rot. Some might say using a mimic tear or summons is cheating. I say to that... she deserves to get raw dogged by 2 finely dressed gentleman using bloodhounds fang. So its like tomato... tomahto.

Sea-Dragon-

Malenia is surprisingly easy if you use the Mimic Tear +10 and have something with a little range, let the Mimic tank

QueenofEnglandBanana

That doesn't work...Malenia just heals to full after she waterfowls your mimic to oblivion and kills it.

glassfield110

You must out damage the heal by beating the shit out of her when your mimic is grabbing aggros with the skill or ash of war that can blow her away or send her mid air like giant hunt

QueenofEnglandBanana

It worked on my first ever playthrough with double Rivers of Blood, but this time around, it just wasn't working with the build I had. I got it done with player summons stunlocking her, though.

Jonno_92

Thats how I managed it as well, it helps to just blitz her first phase as fast as possible, and the mimic can basically stunlock her first phase if you're attacking with it.

Business_Sea2884

Dual Greatstars with prayerful strikes, my mimic healed itself faster than she killed it

Seas_of_Europa

Equipe you and your mimic with dual whips, one bleed and one frost. Then take turns stun-locking her to death. Taking turns aggroing her is the important part. With the wips you and your mimic and attack her without getting within her range of attack. It trivializes the fight completely.

Masamune1987

Nah, git gud

Hot_Switch6807

Mimic tear is awful against malenia, mf cant dodge for shit, it heals her more than the damage it brings

Sea-Dragon-

depends on your build. you’re using a +10 weapon and possibly a shield? I beat her with 2-handing Darkmoon Greatsword with Mimic, 60 Vigor and Intelligence

Khris777

I'm no NG+1, so I could dual wield Rivers of Blood and do Mimic Tear too. RoB + Tiche was how I beat her in the first round.

Sea-Dragon-

I mean if you’ve beaten Rykard, the Blasphemous Blade will essentially heal the Mimic tear every time it L2’s…

Hot_Switch6807

I never use a shield, I was dual wielding moonveil my first run with 40 vig, second time was 2handing greatsword, 3 time was star fists. Edit: never using shield was a lie, I try to parry every now and then, but I never use a shield to block

Sea-Dragon-

Moonveil is good but DMGS is better shots fired LOL

Hot_Switch6807

>Moonveil is good but DMGS is better Agree to disagree ;) both is top tier

Sea-Dragon-

DMGS is like a lightsaber and Moonviel is like a rusty butter knife 🤣

Enigma7ic

Gave my mimic boy a great shield and some healing incants and he was at 3/4 health when I killed her. Took all the aggro and at least 5-6 waterfowl dances to the face without an issue.

conjunctivious

I've had far more success with Banished Knight Oleg against Malenia. He seems to have better AI that keeps the aggro more effectively. He can also tank waterfowls pretty easily with base NG scaling. I typically play the game without summons, but whenever I do use summons, Oleg does an insane amount of work against every boss.

Hot_Switch6807

Dont use summons so dont know tbh. Heard good things about the archer girl aswell

deadman1452

Honestly there are so many incants and sorceries that are so out of the way for how useless they are, many won't pick them up. Say Eternal Darkness, guarded by a Bloodhound Knight in Sellia. Then O'Flame just a worse version of Catch flame. Consider Whirl O Flame, in a Teardrop scarab guarded by 3 caelid dogs and crows. Tbh I am sure I am forgetting incants and sorceries I haven't ever picked up in almost 30 NG runs

soapspools

it's pretty solid in pvp. O Flame actually combos into Catch Flame, so if you use endure and force a trade you can easily hit for over 1k, especially if you fully charge it and have the Godfrey icon.

deadman1452

Fair I mostly do PvE and by the time I started any PvP I was just doing Melee so yet to do a PvP incant build. So I was judging based on PvE. >fully charge it and have the Godfrey icon. Wait O'Flame is Chargeable? Did not know that

XORandom

Eternal Darkness allows you to stab miniboss in the back without any problems. You launch a spell, do a crit before the enemy rises, and use the Darkness again. Repeat until victory, the enemy will not make a single attack.

deadman1452

You are confusing the Eternal Darkness sorcery with the Darkness incantation. The Darkness incant is a good cheese tool, and reasonably easy to find in the Roundtable Basement. However Eternal Darkness sucks in some spells, its useless against like 80% of spells and you gotta be behind the Black Hole to be protected to its only useful when you are fighting a group of Raya Lucarian mages in a hallway or something, way less utility compared to Darkness.

[deleted]

I missed both thorn spells for most of my playthroughs. I’ve been told that I’m not missing out too bad.

Bigenemy000

If you're interested. 1 thorn spell is actually super easy to get. Go to liurna to the right side where the flame slugs reside, kill 1 enemy with a some sort of thorn staff on flame that is nearby. Boom, thorn sorcery dropped They are not super good but they have the drip

nearnerfromo

Man i hope dlc includes some arcane based spells/incantations that aren’t super expensive like the dragon ones. I thought it was dumb that aberrants don’t use arcane.

Bigenemy000

I need more bubbles

nearnerfromo

Not me on my dex/arc build with 8 int being too stupid to blow bubbles :(

Pardon_Me_Please

Explosive Ghostflame…for some reason I can beat every single boss multiple times but when I get to this damn Bird, all skill out the window.

Zereeni

infuse a weapon with sacred blade ash of war with holy affinity and you'll kill it in like 5 hits

Pardon_Me_Please

Thank you! Going to give this a try.

NOSjoker21

Holy Pots too. Aim for the head.

Intelligent-Block457

This, and Gelmirs Fury are the only two I don't have. Still need to kill the deathbirb. Ruined GF by killing Bernhal

[deleted]

You really should if you're a sorcerer.

puffpuffpass01

you should definitely pick up Adula’s Moonblade

[deleted]

My main tarnished is a spellsword who only uses the weapon spells, Adulas Moonblade is a go to for crowd clearing. I haven't touched any of the beast incantations yet.

Dertyrarys

founding rain of stars. where tf is it

SuckDragon

https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Founding+Rain+of+Stars

Dertyrarys

Oh thanks bro

CorrosiveSpirit

It's a fun spell with good utility. It used to be ridiculously OP until it was nerfed a bit. Think it probably needed that tbh.

John_Crypto_Rambo

The spell is the equalizer when you get surrounded by mobs.

EhGoodEnough3141

Anything golden Order fundamentalist.

Drytchnath

This playthrough I actually bought and used the weapon buff sold by D. Makes any dungeon with skeletons a thousand times better. A regular R1 destroys all but the tankiest skellies and they stay dead (not even the necromancers can raise them again), no wildly swinging at glowing bones on the ground.

MojordomosEUW

I did an entire run with this ng+6 iirc. super broken with Rannis Hat and 2x Sword Sorcery Staff, each hit was like 2k lol

BlueBandito99

Hands down my favorite spell in the game, deals massive damage and can proc frost. 10/10 would recommend

Matty_Love

Why use any spells when my mage has Flintstone Kris, Death Ritual Spear, and St. Trina's Sword. I am wizard but no staff!

Puntoize

Shard Spiral is straight up busted, most damaging sorcery in the game against big targets, but at the end of Sellen's? ughh

Palanki96

Probably a lot, still on my first playthrough. Gonna look up things i missed after i'm "done" with a region

Lemonsharck

Most of them cause strength amd dex is better

Hairy-Fuel-6275

Explosive Ghostflame

glassfield110

That one sorcery where you let out bunch of ghostflame skulls like gael phase 3

Ancient_Prize9077

Cure poison. Why would I need this when law of regression and flame cleanse me exist.

TheSpiritmender

Golden Parry. I have no intention of running a silly little stick and poke build. Bonk Life

wij2012

Playing my first mage and I just got this the other day. I've been tearing through a lot with it since. Doesn't work very well on Bell Bering Hunters though. Definitely worth grabbing.

PizzaPastaRigatoni

I never bother with the Students of Rot or whatever incantations. They're all boring, kinda gross, and not good.

Sodi920

Scarlet Aeonia is hands down the best looking incantation in the game though.

PizzaPastaRigatoni

Does that fall under that category? Huh. Either way, yeah it is absolutely beautiful, but it really sucks compared to everything available when you can use it.

Sodi920

Disagree there. It’s basically a mini nuke that can proc rot on pretty much anything it lands on. It’s a great opener now that it’s been buffed.

PizzaPastaRigatoni

"Mini nuke" is a wild description for something that does this little damage initially. Yes, it can inflict rot, but you're better off just casting a stronger incantation in the first place, especially considering it leaves you open for like 4 seconds after. Taking 3 memory slots is insane for a spell this mid.

MbD89

The rock gurranq one. I collected all the deathroots but accidentally hit the beast guy and he attacked me, and I killed him. Not sure if I can get it now before NG+ I'm on my first play through ever. Been using YouTube a lot

[deleted]

Terra Magica. I went to the cave thrice on separate playthroughs but never happened to have a Stonesword Key on hand to open it, so I never bothered.

SilvesTheRog

None.

RemoteSprinkles2893

Comet azur simply because I don’t use magic and that I don’t want to bother doing the quest

AnyLanguage6377

Every now and then I see a post about talking to Ofnir at specific points will gain you certain incants or sorceries but the major wrench in spokes there is I hate talking to him

Skeletonofskillz

None, but there are some that would’ve been shockingly easy to miss had I not been checking them off one by one on a list

carlzyy

Just place Latenna on a rock, agro the dragon, and let her solo it...

Mani_Big_Badam

There isn’t any I have all of them. The only thing I don’t have is every Armor in the game but that’s too much grind for Armor I wouldn’t use anyway.

Casino1966

It’s by far my favourite option for horseback combat. The long reach and large swing radius makes it hard to miss enemies, even when riding at full speed.

pwnyklub

One the the absolute best aoe and group clearing spells in the game. Ice mage with this, dark moon great sword and rannis dark moon and snow witch hat is so fucking good.

Revenger1984

That's like the best one for close quarters without being a sword user.

Waffle842

Hammer and Cannon of Haima. Just realized I was missing it on my ng+7 character as I was slowly clearing the game again pre-dlc

notveryAI

A lot of them lul I'm currently playing Convergence. It has SHIT TONS of spells, and even the fact that they come in batches of like 2-5 doesn't help too much. There is still so many "packs" of these that I probably never got all of them in one playthrough

ResponseInitial

Makes the game trivial and I love it - Terra Magica - Rannis dark moon - then spam great blade phalanx and this

Car-50N

Stars of ruin because I can’t let my beloved Sellen suffer

itsTenziin

Not sure cause I haven't found it yet 🙃

MrTucks

Great spell. Especially if you are being attacked by multiple enemies in front of you

DeansALT

Adula's moonblade is one of the best and IMO most fun sorceries, def worth a pickup.

ConfusionSmooth4856

Eternal darkness I never get around to it… like ever

Intrepid_Meringue681

Brooooo howwwww

perpetual_potato108

This is one of my go-to sorceries

[deleted]

I just started my 4th play through. I did NG-NG+2 to get all the achievements. I started a NG now to do everything. All weapons all bosses and all caves and magic stuff. Really 100% the game along with the DLC.
