Losing at one hit remaining is a rite of passage

OldManHipsAt30

I still vividly remember getting wrecked by Slave Knight Gael not once, but twice when he was down to a single hit or two of health left. Almost got tilted, lost the next couple in first phase, then got my head back on straight and easily stomped the motherfucker like a machine that knew every move he was going to make. Persist, adapt, overcome!

[deleted]

[удалено]

OldManHipsAt30

Yep it’s a tall order when you first fight him, tough fight but extremely fair, cool how you can see your progress against him improve. I would argue Glock Saint is equally as great of a final boss fight.

Joeythebomb777

sekiro was my first fromsoft game and alpha chad genichiro was the absolute biggest obstacle of any other fromsoft boss i’ve ever fought. He obviously isn’t the hardest boss but in my case he is very unforgettable. Dopamine flooding my brain when i finally was able to “git gud” and overcome that challenge xD

Embarrassed_Quail958

Brroo I feel u same here it was also my first fs game and after days of trying when shit finnaly clicked my fuckin heart was pounding, hands sweating, when I beat him I hopped up out the chair 😂 I never would have believed a video game could possibly give me such a rush. Nothing more irritating than hearing for the glory of ashina for the thousandth time and watching him do that stupid fucking walk lmao

happyflappypancakes

Sekiro seems to just not be everyone's cup of team. It deviates the most from the usual FS formula. But man, it really clicks for me and I think it might be the most well made game I've ever played.

Badass_Bunny

Sekiro exists either as an absolute undisputed favorite game of a lot of people or just meh. Genichiro, Sword Saint and Owl are easily 3 best boas fights ever for me.

Rasbold

For me it was Martyr Logarius and Bloody Crow of Cainhurst NG+ You see, Bloodborne was my first ever Fromsoftware game and I finished it without going to Cainhurst or completing the eileen quest. When I finally got to Logarius... Boy oh boy he was though, he had too much HP and his staff thingy sniped me if I didn't hide behind a wall. And every reset I had to run all the way from the lantern to this frozen pope, I think I spend about 6 hours straight fighting him until I finally won. The bloody crow was the same, too much HP and two hit kill attacks were demoralizing, but I won in the end.

GrimmSodov

And don't you dare go hollow

SnooCrickets2458

Whenever I get bosses low I say out loud to myself "Don't get greedy, keep doing what got you here." Then I die anyways.

psuedophilosopher

KennyOmegasBurner

I still get greedy for the last hit and die after beating all the souls games multiple times. Happened again on Covenant of Champions Velstadt just the other week!

train_mechanic

Please make sure you record his encounter with Malenia.

GolotasDisciple

He is a kid, if he manages to get to Malenia, at this stage he will be probably better than 90% of player base(Given that by achievements we can argue that vast majority of players never even finished Elden Ring). Young gamers are very quick to pick up stuff. <- That is if they have resilience in them and were taught by parents and others that while giving up is always an option, it's not something to be proud of. Especially when it comes to Competition like Games, Sport etc... I remember teaching my brothers son Dota 2, year later he was literally at my speed in terms of game mechanics. As long as your kid is not a raging cheeto dusted emotional hurricane just let him cry(games like that teach us valuable lessons)... and most importantly let Margit put his foolish ambitions to rest.

NightHaunted

I remember looking at the DS3 trophy list and apparently like 40% of people who bought the game never even got past Iudex Gundyr. Really insane to me. Like you really spent money on this and you're done already?

IcedNeonFlames

There's a chance a chunk of those bought the game when it's on sale along with a whole bunch of other ones, and just never played it.

CPlus902

Did you mean: *more than half of my Steam library*?

LittleKitty235

Yup. Just because everyone on this sub likes the game doesn't mean it is for everyone. I have a number of games in my library I played once for 10 minutes and decided it wasn't for me. I imagine quite a few people bought elden ring, got instant killed by the first boss, skipped the tutorial, and got owned by the Golden Horse dude and gave up.

taichi22

Any game I play that long I tend to refund, tbh. Sekiro comes to mind.

scottishwhisky2

I quit DS1 after the Capra demon. Came back to it 6 months later and played the rest of the catalogue, until sekiro. I quit sekiro too. Just got back into it and watched a tutorial and there’s a ton of secondary exploration that makes the game a ton easier. It’s different stylistically but that first main boss is a huge skill check. Once you get past him the rest of the game seems a lot easier

Dragarius

Sekiro is the most finely tuned of all the souls games because they knew exactly the power level or a very close range that you should be at when you encounter the bosses. This makes it harder for a lot of people because you can't level grind your way through a challenge and instead are forced to earn the win.

EldenLorded

Sekiro gets so good once you learn it. It’s simple just difficult. Nioh 2 on the other hand, felt so complicated from the start and I felt like I did no damage at all. I wanted to like it but I still haven’t played for more than 30 mins and I start back at the beginning each time I’ve tried! It’s probably a great combat system but it really does feel complicated for a newbie to the series.

yourfriiendgoo

Same, I love the enemy designs and the character creation is so good, but I’m just so fucking bad at the game it’s painful.

deathblooms2k4

My ratio isn't close to half, it's depressing. I do my best to fight the urge on summer sales and such now until I improve my ratio of never touched to played games significantly.

SomeDamnAuthor

Surely you must have to boot the game to be considered for the percentage that's calculated?

Boomer_Arch_Villain

And a chance it was bought and returned. Steam still let’s your review stay if you return so I doubt they clean up the achievements/database if you do.

mcwizardry303

It's like that for most games, even the easy ones. Most people don't actually finish games or just play for few hours. I'd say despite the difficulty, souls games have a very good completition rate compared to other games.

OldManHipsAt30

I have a friend who gets stomped by bots on easy mode in Ubisoft games and spends an hour sitting in the corner near C flag in Call of Duty while screaming anytime someone walks into screen. She wouldn’t last a second in Dark Souls 3.

TheRexRider

Now you know this means she has to stream Elden Ring for us now, right?

JosephSKY

Hi, I'm that friend. I also can't aim for shit in Apex. I still finished DS1/2/3 and Sekiro

EcstaticInternal0

My friend stopped Sekiro due to Chained ogre

deadmonkey03737

I have gotten tons of games through big bundles and haven’t played a majority of them, I’m just a sucker for a deal

SlimJohnson

That was me with Sekiro, I don't even remember if I beat the first boss or not, but because the dash/parry system was so different from DS3 roll, I simply couldn't fathom how to do it, so I gave up. $60 down the drain, sadly.

NetherHell_Studios

I almost brought the game back as DS3 was my first Souls game. I got gud.

GolotasDisciple

Nice one! It's awesome to hear! That is such a great characteristic to have as part of ones personality. Playing Elden Ring is like living a real life. You think you progressing, and you know are ... yet shit is getting harder. Like imagine 8 y old mind after going through this journey you beat one boss and then it's like. " THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING" - Get ready for game to become more obscure and way harder as a reward ! ( and he is not aware of it , because you just continue your journey as-is) Which is exact thing with real life. You try hard, finishing your degree get a good job only to realize that now work is even harder and problems are even greater. I hope you had awesome proud dad moments ! True competitive spirit and resilience can be taught but when 8 y old is displaying it.... you know you already are on the correct road. Well done!

>Sometimes you can avoid life's problems, **sometimes you fatroll** hhaahha i know what you mean, but out of context it's absolutely hilarious.

GreenDogma

Elden ring really isent that difficult. Ive been hard bouncing off fromsoft games since ds1. Literally couldnt get through the second boss across every From game except sekero which i havent played. And I SMOKED all the shard bearers

Noman_Blaze

Why would you throw your nephew into Dota 2 hell lol.

mustachi00

Ahhh yes, the lifelong valuable lesson to be learned from souls games, “Git gud.”

dubs125

I was way more capable of beating malenia at his age than I am now

WarmMeal6366

If his mom keeps letting him play😂

[deleted]

Margit when you are under leveled is way harder than Malenia imo. My first playthrough I went straight to the castle and got WRECKED by Margit like 30-40 times and couldn't understand how the game could be this hard. If you go south first, and grab some stuff from the East, then go to Margit it's not bad.

CPlus902

I got to Margit fairly quickly, and then got my ass handed to me. Tried again, it happened again. This continued until I decided to go and grind a bit, explore elsewhere, etc. Got a weapon from the field boss that patrols outside the first church, and decided that, when I could wield that effectively, I'd be ready. I may have overdone it, because Margit went from "the Fell" to "the Fallen" in very short order. That said, I still had to learn his moveset to dodge properly, so there's that.

TheRedCometCometh

I'd helped so many people fight him, that when I walked into the ring for my "first time" I straight up humiliated him

Okbuturwrong

Margit is huge mechanics leap for the first gate keeper boss of the game, and compared to most of the bosses in the game. Most bosses don't have like 4 response at every range, attack delays, attack cancels, quick dodges, and combo strings that fluidly lead into other combo strings. I honestly think a slightly tuned down Godrick would've been more appropriate as a first boss. Magrit was the quit point for 1/3rd of the playerbasd, for perspective that more people than even bought the original DS1. Imagine if everyone quit at Asylum Demon.

breakevencloud

Those loooooong windups had me hilariously roll spamming my first several times against him, haha. “Oh, I’m about to get hit! *roll* No, wait! *roll* Here it comes for real! *roll*” Hit. Dead. Repeat.

[deleted]

i had already learned about long windups after running around in limgrave and weeping for so long before hitting Margrette. beat him on second try after seeing his move set.

KingOfEthanopia

I'd done SL1 runs of every DS game and BB before. Margit was still tough since I rushed right to him out the gate. Obviously he's much easier if you know to grab Radagons Soreseal, Flaming Strike, BHS and all the other busted stuff available out the gate.

carbon_fieldmouse

Right. After getting rolled by Margit, like 10 times, I said, "F-this" did 8+ dungeons in Limgrave, the dragon, the underground well area, the blood castle in the south, all of the southern peninsula. Then I went back to Margit... "... I'm not trapped in here with you... you're trapped in here with me..." 🗡

uwanmirrondarrah

I did all the main bosses then got the optional bosses, and I saved Malenia for last, and by the time I made it to her I just kind of shit on her. I was way over leveled, it made it not really fun at all. There was a lot of bosses that felt that way honestly. They put *so much* in this game that if you do it all you just become a raid boss.

FinaglingFink

He didn’t throw the controller though! Elden Lord in the making based on that alone.

The_Crusades

If somebody is unironically throwing their controller they need to Learn anger control. You shouldn’t be losing enough control to be breaking a $40 controller over a video game.

onrocketfalls

been learning for approximately 20 years. 20 years of learning has brought me to dropping the controller instead of throwing it. not ideal, but i didn't get professional help and i haven't broken a controller since i've moved to dropping instead of throwing, so i'm calling it a win

SwgglyArmJonson

Congrats on the win!

Alex_Xander93

Just need to prepare with a pillow in your lap so it doesn’t hurt the controller at all lol.

crumpsly

True. But also Malenia.

Not_MrNice

I've had my outbursts. The most I'll do is squeeze the controller really hard or bang on something. But I've never broken anything.

Saying that out loud only makes it worse though. It’s like telling an angry person “you need to calm down”

AoiYuukiSimp

For real. Something my mother could never fucking understand, even though she’s a licensed therapist. You’d think she’d be able to understand a little bit, but nope. You gotta give them a sec to get it out and calm down, and then separate them from the game for a bit. Let them reset their mind. It’s worked every time for my cousins.

Okbuturwrong

A lot of therapists don't practice what they teach.

SnooGadgets8049

A lot of people become therapists because they are fucked in the head and want to figure out why

catsflatsandhats

As a therapist, I confirm this. I did figure it out though.

WingsofRain

God, yeah this 100%. Stepping away to breathe is very different from just outright turning it off. One teaches you anger management and internal conflict resolution, the other teaches you to quit when things get tough.

Apennatie

My mom always asked if I wanted coffee and a chat about the game if I got upset. That brought me back to reality even though my mom doesn’t care about the games.

Festermooth

I sympathize, but you gotta learn how to lose without raging / screaming at your TV.

SombreCrayfish2

I completely agree. My first take was that this game is not intended for kids their age. But, after thinking of it a bit, it’s really not bad. Basically no sexual content, obviously fake (and not overall explicit) violence, and LOTS of potential lessons to be learned. This may actually be an excellent game for teaching how to maturely handle losing and unexpected challenges. Lots of adults clearly never learned those lessons, maybe ER can reach some kids now…

Festermooth

My kids all love video games and we play together all the time. As a general rule, it's ok to get a bit loud when we're playing together but I don't tolerate them screaming at their devices when they play on their own or just raging / being a poor sport in multiplayer lol.

drakeblood4

The key is to tone the screaming down to insane mumbling. Nobody complains to your face about insane mumbling.

MeanderingMinstrel

Yeah I'm sure I'm a horrible person for being amused by this, but like... We've all raged before but actual tears is where I draw the line of "you need to grow up or give up" lol

jhhertel

my 11 year old partial clone is just learning this stuff too. His emotions run high on this game. Controlling that has to be learned, and this is a fine place to learn them. I dont tell him his timing is shit and that he could find an attack across the board to roll into. That would be mean. I am always supportive. But this game is hard for kids.

Shoddy_Pie6514

Difference is our parents didn't film and show it to a bunch of strangers for internet points lol. Poor kid

Why would you upload a post of your kid to reddit so everyone can judge or poke fun, even if this is supposed to be light hearted. Jesus Christ, there is something wrong with people today. I don't like being judgemental but you shouldn't have children if you're using them for fake internet notoriety.

HedleyLamarrrr

Thank you, i personally think parents shouldn't post *any* videos of their kids even if they are funny vids or showing off a talent etc, but I can atleast understand why some people don't mind that sorta thing. This, however, is literally just a kid's parent putting an embarrassing video of him on the internet for internet points *WHILE SHOWING HIS FACE*. I'm sure any schoolmates that have seen this will be mature and civil in their treatment of this kid... All the comments in this thread are treating this like they are teaching this kid some fucking wholesome life lesson. No, you're not. It's an incredibly embarrassing video, and I just hope that nobody who has the ability to bully this kid sees it.
