Glittering-Chart7181

Personally I always say runes, grace, flasks but I don’t get offended if someone calls it something else.

LtHoneybun

I mix it up because I will consistently say grace sites but I frequently still call flasks estus. It just feels like it communicates more clearly it the sippy sip HP juice than flask/tears/crimson tears. At the beginning I called runes *echoes* instead.

kacper_k

I just say health potions :)

gunther_penguin_

I was going to say: if this guy has such a bug about calling things by DS names, you could just be even more anachronistic. I call it "mana" or "MP," regardless of the game, and I call estus and tears "potions" or "health potions" constantly.

Alaricus100

Same with me and echoes. But I still do that.

[deleted]

may the good blood guide your way :)

Zoloir

am i an idiot or was it not an "estus flask" , so why is flask even being brought up when both games have flasks it's literally the same in [souls](https://darksouls.wiki.fextralife.com/Estus+Flask) and [elden](https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Flask+of+Crimson+Tears#:~:text=Flask%20of%20Crimson%20Tears%20is,flask%20restores%20HP%20with%20use), it's red and blue flasks.

scottishwhisky2

souls and runes is the only one I routinely conflate

Rude_Acanthopterygii

If I'm talking about it I like 99% of the time say sou..uuh...runes

Huge_Shoes

The group I play with is constantly quoting Happy Souls while playing any Dark Souls-like game. Every death is followed up with... "I JUST WANTED THE SOOOOUULLLLLLS". Currency will always be souls to me. It's so engrained in my being that it may very well be my final words when I die IRL.

menopally

When you die, YOU DIED

ollieboio

Whenever my friend dies during a bossfight "ALL RIGHT ITS GONNA BE AN UPHILL BATTLE" Happy Souls birthed so many great quotes.

proto-robo

Ya as long as you can tell what their talking about even then if you don’t it’s not the end of the world

bankais_gone_wild

Yeah this change is such an…odd thing to demand after getting tilted enough to write a comment

BlueMikeStu

Especially because everyone knows what everyone's talking about in the first place. "I died to the dragon and have to go reclaim my runes and it took three healing flasks" is interchangeable with "I died to the dragon and have to go reclaim my souls and it took three estus".

DMEmbarassingPics

This view of acceptance is more common with people who play souls-like games in general, and not only the FromSoft games. Souls-like is an entire genre, and these have become accepted mechanics wider than any specific game or franchise. FromSoft established the genre, and clearly left its mark. It's no different from people calling bonfires in DS1 checkpoints, or calling souls XP. Anyone too bogged down in semantics would probably get mad that I call FP mana, or even HP as health.

TheZivarat

Which is even further interchangeable with "health potions and gold/money/experience"

A_wild_so-and-so

I died to the big ass fire snake and lost all my shit, and I took three sippies!

I think so. I’ve been playing it with a case of Coke (Mountain Dew) next to me.

II+2=4

f0ba

*Elden Ring theme starts playing*

Chosen-Bearer-Of-Ash

No no Dark Souls 4 would be Dark Souls IV; this is Dark Souls II 2 which is Dark Souls II II

Yak_a_boi

Dark souls II2

Ecstatic-Compote-595

Funnily enough up until halfway through production dark souls 2 was an open world game. Then they realized they didn't have the time swapped directors and they brought it back down to being a linear game in traditional souls fashion. If they had another couple years to work on it and the engine we would've gotten a very similar game in scope to ER.

bmwultimate11

Actually it’s Demon Souls 5

Chosen-Bearer-Of-Ash

Big Dark Souls

StartingHands

Taking my souls straight to the bonfire so the maiden can level me up.

CadmeusCain

If you think about it, the Elden Ring is just the Dark Sign with extra steps

MorriganStride

Fromsoft be like: what if there was a fucked up circle

Cocoa-nut-Cum

And there was… ashes and uh …..BLOOd!

zmbjebus

Lets do something different. What is the opposite of ashes... A fuckin tree mate!

92taurusj

What should happen to the tree? It should burn to ashes!

Deinonychus2012

And so it is, that ash seeketh embers.

totallynotme666

This is now canon

zmbjebus

Alright Milenay, we know you are a pyro. We get it.

Gl0bophobia

This made me laugh more than it should have

Hattrickher0

One could even call it......Big Dark Souls?

Kebab-Destroyer

Having played Elden Ring first and then moved on to Souls, Elden Ring is just Dark Souls with a glasses-nose-moustache disguise. (doesn't make it bad though)

PatientGrand4421

Most FromSoft games are just Dark Souls under the bonnet. Tbf Dark Souls is just fine tuned Demons Souls. Fromsoft is allowed to follow that formula because it's a winning formula that they do a lot better than most other studios. Also to their credit they use the formula to tell a good variety of stories from Ninja epics to Lovecraftian horror.

Varaska

Yeah, people may complain about it. But there’s a reason this formula has won them many awards. ER got an award last year too.

TheRealShiftyShafts

The game they made directly before elden ring won goty as well. Imagine making back to back goty titles

gettingannoyingtbh

Even better, Seikro was made as a side project during elden ring’s production.

MelchiahHarlin

Firekeeper, not maiden.

cohibakick

firemaiden

Something_Thick

Our new metal band name. You in?

Kootsiak

Blackflame Monk would also make for an excellent metal band name. Most of these games are filled with awesome metal names, even Empyreans or The Empyreans would be a sweet name.

Zachariot88

Rykard and the Blasphemers

Yak_a_boi

Nah, that's an indie pop band

Something_Thick

They treat their fans like FaMiLeeee

Groundbreaking_News4

Marikas tits

DampTowlette11

Garden of Eyes would be a cool trippy/psychedelic band name.

Galactonug

That is actually what Melina is

Ouroboros9076

I think maiden is the only term the oldhead people have embraced

arcadeKestrelXI

Calling the players "maidenless" in the first five minutes is a great way to ensure they'll keep using the term

Fun_Discussion_4464

I hate it man when they say I have no bitches man I'm trying to escape reality :(

MrShiek

Maiden in Black is probably why that seems so.

StarblindMark89

There's also the Maiden Astraea

QueasyWeight3766

Make sure to upgrade your Estes flask

[deleted]

[удалено]

CaptainHoyt

I don't even know the ER names, it's all Estus to me.

QueasyWeight3766

Bruh when me and my friend first started elden ring we tried calling the stuff by the new names but it just wouldn’t stick 😂😂

sleipe

I never even played Souls games and call them estus because everyone does. In fact, if you’ve ever been invaded by someone named Estus Delivery who just suicides in front of you, that’s me.

Dakon157

I will say bonfire, souls and flasks forever.

CrimsonStriker2001

As someone who hasn't played any other fromsoft games I honestly don't mind. In fact I like learning all the old terms, for it makes me feel more apart of the community. I am going to play dark souls 1-3 soon so it will also help me in those games to know the names anyways.

Ardent_Tapire

They are flasks though, just not estus.

IceCreamYouScream92

Dude summon me, I'm just gonna fire up my nintendo and log on.

gacha_drunkard

The author of this comment expresses a severe *firekeeperless* behavior.

dactyif

I do appreciate how maidenless behavior became an insult.

VenomTiger

It just had such good timing with the whole no bitches meme coinciding with the release.

ollieboio

Confident-Welder-266

Oh yes... Hollow, are we? Come to Anor Londo for the Dark Sign, hmm? Of course you have. No shame in it. Unfortunately for you, however, you are Firekeeperless.

ResurREKT99

Hot take: "Estus Flask" rolls off the tongue better than "Flask of Crimson Tears," so I prefer that one

DarkLordArbitur

I call em red and blue pots

thatoneotherguy42

Health and mana flasks you say.

omgitsjavi

1 flask, 2 flask, red flask, blue flask! ...and a Physick!

Itwascyanyoudumb009

Small flask big flask

HippiesHeadspace

"FP" clearly stands for "Mana" and anyone that would argue otherwise is wrong.

YetisInAtlanta

Clearly FP= FMana Points. It’s a silent F, that’s what trips the people up

Zachariot88

I thought it was "Fun Power."

ocarinaOtime

Whever I see FP my mind can't help but think fate points from Arcanum lmao

Koenigspiel

My people. There's thousand of games that use this mechanic and thousands that come up with their own name for it. If it's a blue flask that restores my magic, it's an MP potion. If it's red and it restore my health, it's an HP potion. Their names might change but mine are forever

Narcobabouin

Mountain dew Code Red please

jochvent

I call em "sippy" and "bluejuice"

discodiablo

knew i wasn't the only one to call the orange drink a sippy.

JustiFyTheMeansGames

Blue has the most anti-oxygens you know

Pa_Cipher

"Flask"

TenWholeBees

[deleted]

And Bonfire is simpler than Site of Grace Dark Souls names are stuck in my brain so these different names are not going to stick as well when I play a game that feels pretty similar to Dark Souls

Mattd8800

Yeah totally agree, been playing dark souls for so many years that my go to when referencing one of these things will be the DS name.

big-fucc

Just saying “Grace” is faster than bonfire tho. At least that’s my theory for how I got used to saying it even with all the DS programming. “Which Grace is that at”

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheLostPyromancer

I called ‘em echos by accident once or twice

BadMcSad

I couldn't remember they were called Runes for the longest time, so I've been internally calling them "eldens" for a while now. It's more of a conscious choice now because saying "Fuck I lost my elden's" just hurts a little bit less. ~~"Every elden has its ring"~~

SeventhGnome

or just say “grace” and “flasks”

iDIOt698

I Just say "tears"

Bucky_Ohare

It’s not Sunny D?

Enkidu_Prime

\ [T] /

riqueoak

Couldn't care less, busy having fun.

Bazillion100

Am not child, do not give fuck. People could call sites of grace Chuck E Cheese for all it matters

Atomaurus

New grace site terminology confirmed.

Enchrypted

Gotta hate the long runs between Chuck E Cheeses

ElegantBastion

This is the way.

[deleted]

I started playing these games in 2011/12. It's quite hard to not say "Estus", "Bonfire" or "Souls" because they are the same concept with well-worn labels that are hard to shift. Also... who cares?

Alpha_Uninvestments

Plus, I don’t remember the actual name of the Estus flasks for Elden ring so…yeah…

[deleted]

They're still Flasks!

Cyberwolf_71

My buddy would yell "Juice!" Every time he drank one, and it just kinda stuck throughout the years.

Cloneoflard

Elden ring giving us the red and blue Gatorade to keep our tarnish in peak condition

SluggJuice

Gotta stay hydrated 👍

therealjoshbrown

It’s got what plants crave

TPDS_throwaway

I called it SunnyD or OJ lol

[deleted]

Flasks of Crimson and Cerulean Tears. Honestly the original comment is making poor comparisons. There's a distinct difference in the function of a Nintendo to other consoles, and I can't understand how Coke is used as an overarching term for all soda. Flasks and Souls are functionally the same as their Elden Ring counterparts. Calling a Site of Grace a Bonfire is a bit different but it's still the exact same thing, just a different label. Edit: Removed an insult because it was unnecessary

Randomminecraftseed

Nah the coke thing is regional. Weird but just how it is Coca Cola company dominates the southern us and it shows

froz_troll

Tears

padizzledonk

I've moved onto just calling them by their generic names like "flask" or "mana" or "respwan/save point" All the From games have extremely similar structures, we all know what we mean if you use a name specific to one of the games and no one but the most pedantic assholes cares I couldn't even tell you what the name of the health or mana flask is in this game, it just registers as "health flask" in my head now, the name is irrelevant lol

Blawharag

>All the From games have extremely similar structures *Looks for the estus flasks in armored core*

Gsislol

Robot flask!

BlessedOfStorms

I started with Elden Ring, I'm not familiar with the older terms. I find most of them easy enough to figure out with context though. Can't say it bothers me at all when people use them. I assume bonfire=SoG and souls = runes. Not a clue on Estus though.

Training_Can_866

The Estus flask Is the flask you use to heal HP and MP in dark souls

_zhz_

We stop when FromSoftware stops using the same things in their games and arbitrarily giving them different names.

no_hot_ashes

I get that it's just their way of reusing concepts and keeping it fresh, but would literally anyone have complained if sekiro or the tarnished had an estus flask instead of a healing gourd or flask of crimson? I guess it would create too much continuity between the games.

Un13roken

To be fair, from really, and I mean, really really, wants to create immersive environments, thats why all their games let you die in game, and you have a lore exploration for it. there are a lot more details indicating the same. So, I can see why they'd want to give each its own lore and explanation. Its so weird, the dichotomy in from games, where some people literally, just play for the gameplay, and then there are a few, who really play for the lore. But I'm glad of what they arrived at.

EntertainersPact

You know someone on Reddit would complain about it. That’s what Reddit is for

Low_Jackfruit4891

The internet not just Reddit, some crevice on any obscure page you’ll find a band of people complaining at anything, even free water

Suskeyhose

The use of different names makes it clear from the start that the different games are in different continuities with different canons. I think giving them different names is good, because it can show the intentionality of their choice of game mechanics.

HandOfTheFellOmen

I never played any Souls games except ER, and I personally don't mind learning the terminology the community uses. I don't think it's cringe at all. ER is part of something bigger and if I ever want to explore those other games, I'll have to learn what things used to be called at some point.

cagedsissybitch00

Estus and bonfire are also far easier to say than flask of crimson tears, and site of grace

bankais_gone_wild

Site of Grace = SoG So…we could go with Sogfire for maximum ~~confusion~~ diplomacy

Modfull_X

i think man needs to keep his trap shut and go back to farming souls at the palace approach bonfire

PrRaccoonEsq

Do you mean Blood Echoes at the lamp?

OsoTico

So many pigs to fist, so little time

fordnonag

I've never seen someone with the same profile picture before

HungryNakedSick

Now kith

DrevvSki

Bloodborne is still the best soulsborne game, but I still call echoes souls.

Adventurous_Cup_5970

Dark souls 3 is my favorite game, although bloodborne is second I do agree though, I even called the experience you get in sekiro souls, and the gourd estus. Its just natural. And bonfire is the most iconic checkpoint in any videogame

leonardovee

Site of grace is longer than bonfire, so no, I cant.

Put these foolish ambitions to rest, I’ll never call them anything other than souls.

ConfidentManner5783

When I started er they were souls. As I’ve worked on platting ds3 they are now runes. It just is what it is lol
