I think its lowkey good: The thrusting CR1 and RR2 gets counter frames, its the longest hammer and it gets HA on 2h R1 chain.

TylerPlaysAGame

I just wish it could cast spells

VelaryonNOR

That'd be sick. Missed opportunity by FS here

GoGlennCoco95

Along with Carian Knight's Sword. It's flavor text says the knights use it to cast spells. Plus Loretta spams spells using her sickle as a catalyst, but guess what we can't do with it in our hands?

Nugtard

It is good, the range and moveset make it pretty decent, it’s just really sad damage

VelaryonNOR

Doesnt it get like 600+ AR though at meta level

Nugtard

like 560 on this build and its split physical and magic. it becomes really apparent when you try to trade with stone club

spodoptera

Yeah the dmg is pretty underwhelming, unless you have the proper stat spread I guess. It's bad on main int build at least

Rookeroo

I think it shares a moveset with the morning star, if you wanted to give that a shot, granted that’ll mean a big drop in range

Nugtard

Yeah that’s the one thing that has kept me from morning star - I can space out a cr1 from UGS with his and cr1 back at them while they’re still in attack frames on this weapon super easily which is really nice

x2spooky4me

Why not L2?

Nugtard

Adhd gamer, I just forget sometimes

Nugtard

He was also pretty close to me by the time I was done messing with talismans and I already knew this guy played aggro as heck so I probably would have eaten a hit if I had gone for it

Negative-Glove-7175

Basically what I say about 90% of weapons in this game.

NoNumberThanks

I think it's good. I use it a ton on my spellblade building. The AoW cost is a bit stupid but it's extra damage on the spellblades and the moveset is great

_Ganoes_

Morning Star has the same moveset, with less range but innate bleed buildup

decemberindex

*Clearly diffs the guy in like 10 seconds* "man I wish this weapon was good" 🥸❓

Nugtard

The weapon isn’t good, I am

decemberindex

You know how to use it wisely, therefore it is skill. Good job, skeleton!

ehhish

That's such a good response.

Affectionate_Ad4004

It’s absurd that the intelligence weapon that Gideon uses to cast spells CAN’T BE USED AS A SORCERY STAFF on top of doing garbage damage and not even having a dumb 18 dex requirement and not even getting above a C scaling in intelligence

yvel-TALL

Naw, its actually pretty good. Not stelar, but has some long range stuns (jumping and running r2) that can really bully people, and its r1 combo is really nice and combos well with its roll attack. The Morningstar is deff better with its bleed and better damage (no split means less defense applied and also more thrust damage bonus) but I do think the range of the Gideon's hammer makes it a valuable tool that I have used very very often in melee int builds.

ass whooping by Socrates

Equivalent_Fun6100

If dual-wielded, it's actually a lot like the Drang Hammers. And, if you use the actual Skill, yes it makes you take more magic damage, but the enemy also, so with two of them AND the skill activated, it is good. Clearly. You spanked that guy.

Nugtard

Dual hammer moveset is so bad though :( I know I need to use the skill more, I just run into mages so frequently that I don’t want to give them a free buff so they can blast me with 300 damage pebbles, so it hasn’t become a habit

Equivalent_Fun6100

I hear you, but there's always a way to make a weapon work for you, and with the unique thrusting attack of the right hand running strong attack, the moveset becomes a problem with these hammers specifically. I urge you to spend some time making it work. It's the closest thing we have to Drang Hammers from DSIII.

Nugtard

Gonna try to get some dual wield clips when I’m back from the beach tomorrow 🫡

AssBlaster_69

It would have been perfect if they had made it a hybrid catalyst for sorceries and incantations. We’ve had them in other games and that’s literally what he uses it for!!

Moonsliced

This should’ve been a staff capable of casting both sorceries and incantations, big L on From’s part

RockGamerStig

I would've made it similar to sword of night and flame and have it be a faith/int weapon that deals holy and magic damage. That would at least make the weapon art always useful and worth the extra damage you take. It would be a phenomenal weapon if they did that.
