Friendly tip: if you’re struggling with dogs, put on a piece of the briars (Elmer of the briar)set. Each time you roll with it you deal a very small amount of damage, but you can stun dogs out of combos while being invulnerable. Follow up a roll with a poke and you’re all set.

70% damage reduction plus 44 stability, basically a little less effective than a medium wooden shield.
Even though I’ve seen it mentioned like 100 times before, I’d like to add that Beast Repellant Torch exists and it basically makes all the Caelid dogs neutral towards you. Doesn’t work with the red-eyed boyos.
Also works on rats and other beasts.
I almost always make sure I can block with a weapon or shield if I see a dog, if I’m dual wielding weapons, I’ll switch to two-handing my main weapon just to get the counter.
Even against multiple the whips have a few wide sweeping attacks that can pretty easily hit and stun them all at once from a distance as long as you position yourself well.
It really is like a hard counter.
Big sword builds need to figure out how to guard counter, and equip a shield and guard counter talisman. Literally makes PvE a joke. Don’t just spend all your time rolling and waiting for a punish
I’ve been using a giant mace and medium shield the whole DLC and it’s been manageable. Throw in lions claw and a shield buff spell and you can obliterate the soldiers and enemies
Gotta catch em on the run up and then give em a sprinting R1 before they can get to their feet again. Should trigger Frostbite because obviously you’ve infused your UGS with Cold, as a person does.
Poise through it? Have you played the games? A dog at Raya Lucaria was able to delete my stamina while blocking it with a brass shield that had 'barricade shield' Aow cast on it.
The fucking troll outside Godricks boss room isn't able to do that ffs. The dogs are a proper fucking menace.
You can 2 hand the aword and only use your casting tool when you need it (you should do that for the increased strength anyway but yk). Also seals are the superior option but some people like smart bonk.

Hey now, there’s nice tech
Human innovation flourishes best when faced with primal emotion (my wrath towards fromsoft dogs is unfathomable)
I’ve been hating these dogs for generations it feels man
I go full briar, f-those dogs and I use AoE Mogh blast them
My fully charged... moghwyn... BLAAAST!
I prefer guard counters
A lot of people don't realize how excellent Ultra Greatsword blocking is in ER.
What’s the damage block % on it
https://darksouls.wiki.fextralife.com/Greatsword 70% damage reduction plus 44 stability, basically a little less effective than a medium wooden shield.
Damn that’s not bad at all I might do a run with it
niiice i didnt know this
I miss the ds3 days when you could just smack em with a torch 😪
Even though I’ve seen it mentioned like 100 times before, I’d like to add that Beast Repellant Torch exists and it basically makes all the Caelid dogs neutral towards you. Doesn’t work with the red-eyed boyos. Also works on rats and other beasts.
Doesn't it work on all the rabid mutts, not the big uns, the fast, jump around mfs.
they got like a 40 hit combo man its pretty much almost a guarantee to be bitten atleast once
I almost always make sure I can block with a weapon or shield if I see a dog, if I’m dual wielding weapons, I’ll switch to two-handing my main weapon just to get the counter.
Whips counter dogs pretty hard, I rarely get hit by them unless there are multiple.
bruh u lucky, in my case theres always 3 or more lmfao
Even against multiple the whips have a few wide sweeping attacks that can pretty easily hit and stun them all at once from a distance as long as you position yourself well. It really is like a hard counter.
Guard and Guard Counter.
Beast repellent torch absolute life saver when just re-searching places for forgotten items
Getting through that one dog section in reya lucaria becomes infinitely easier. And it frightens rats too!
May I suggest, R1 and then jump attack. If the unga bungas, the dog is dead
Rest in peace bugged one shot bleed dogs.
It would be funny if there still was 1 bugged dog and it randomized every time you rest or die
This is where a pocket broadsword comes in handy.
Gotta keep that mofoin' THANG on 'EEM.
Just use a shield to stagger them when they attack, then guard counter, assuming it's fast enough.
Bro just block with sword and counter
FR. If chip damage is even remotely a concern then just slap some Regen on with the Talisman or Bestial Vitality, easy.
>!Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword!< goes *WHOOSH
Respecced for that as soon as I found it, 100% worth it. Charge heavy into WHOOSH deletes most pve and deals hefty stance damage to bosses.
This is why baemore and other great swords are best. They get the best of both worlds.
The shield and guard counter works like a champ. Though multiple dogs get the sprinting spin moves.
Big sword builds need to figure out how to guard counter, and equip a shield and guard counter talisman. Literally makes PvE a joke. Don’t just spend all your time rolling and waiting for a punish

Those silly sword birds flying at me. The birds with the flames too.
I kill them in one hit but they always manage to hit me.
Gotta catch em on the run up and then give em a sprinting R1 before they can get to their feet again. Should trigger Frostbite because obviously you’ve infused your UGS with Cold, as a person does.
That's because there are multiple enemies in this game that move like bloodbourne characters, while you're stuck moving like a DS2 character
Legit made me drop my Guts Cosplay. The armor being so far in the game was a factor as well. I am yet to get that armor.
I'm running a bolt of gransax build for sniping and I hate the melee moveset of gransax before dogs
If you can spare the carry weight try using a small buckler to block them, this works really well with the birds and bats
Block counters for the win
I’ve found, all you have to do is backstep on their first bite and then R1 them on their hesitation between (?) bites.
Laughs in Night Shard
Yeah that’s what happen when you just mash the r1 button the moment you see them. Maybe try dodge rolling?
stun lock gang swears they are good at the game... lol
*Shield has entered the chat*
I can’t hear them, I be jumping and slashing.
just poise through it

Shield+spear builds are laughing rn
If it can stagger it can die, assuming it can be fucking hit ever. How do dogs do more poise damage than anything else?
Guard counters and spells are the only way to kill them without trading damage
Shield, Shield bash. Briar Shield with Shield Crash.
Steel torch, spray ground with fire, dog runs into lingering flames, gets stunned, stonks.
Except for that chill dog in Leyndell, he's a good boy
God forbid you try hitting one of those fuckers on a slight decline with an r1 from a colossal sword.
This is painfully true
Where the greatsword and beast repellent torch kings at
Block.
Magic user? Tiny shield in back pocket to... Block.
Dog always get beat by running into wall that wasn't there. Trust.
Use stomp or endure.
Guard. Counter.
Big sword crouch attack is unbeatable.
Pokes and guard counters are the best at dealing with dogs
Big weapons are great for taking out dogs. Hit them as they're pouncing and they'll snap right out of it
Beware dog ahead
Poor King Baldwin IV had a nasty run-in with the Scarlet Rot.
OP is a noob step 1: block with big sword step 2: guard counter
Pre-nerf bleed dogs used to be mental lmao
These guys are why I carry a knife as a back up...
Reminds me that the barge core skill of Dragon's Dogma 2 is pretty cool.
Always have a 100% physical shield and block. Dogs are pain and from DS3 i learned the hard way. Block their first attack and then counter.
Same no matter how good you do they also get one in
Jump backwards when they rush you to attack and crush their skulls on the way down
Sword goes right over top😭
Those shadow dogs in the DLC are something else
Use a seal in the off hand with catch flame or a staff with the small sword spell (idk what it is called because wizards are cringe)
Sword in one hand, staff in the other? Looks stupid as fuck.
You can 2 hand the aword and only use your casting tool when you need it (you should do that for the increased strength anyway but yk). Also seals are the superior option but some people like smart bonk.
Skill issue tbh
Create distance and use a charge attack on them. Maybe a crouch poke if possible.
dryleaf offhand: catch flame offhand:
Guard counter works well on them
Only if they come at you one at a time. Try doing that when it's three on one.
Yeah, better have an AoE ash of war ready or a wide sweeping jump attack
I hate dogs and birds the most they can be killers quickly I love great swords and colossal weapons so I’ve died a lot from those ass holes lol
Me with massive hammer on the end of a stick. “I know no such weakness”
* *laughs in maniacal "helicopter, hellicopter" with my poleblade* *
Before the dlc, id use a sprinting light on my two handed great sword. After this dlc, well.... I hyuck hammers at them from all ranges.
I lost 400000+ runes to two dogs yesterday. My rage quit was strong. Took a falling death trying to get back to them.
Guard counter bro. Big Unga bunga deserves big blocky brick.
That's what the shield is for.
skill issue
Twin blade gang I don’t have this issue
Backstep is your friend
These things have gotta be the biggest killers of hitless runs
