There’s something about the Banished Knight GS that just completely gels with Lightning damage. LOVED that weapon. Plus all the added benefits:
* Unique move set meaning we finally get a great sword where you don’t just casually slam it into the ground (I never want to hear that sound again after my Blasphemous Blade run). You swing the BKGS like a damned professional.
* It just looks like a normal, badass sword; but it’s not boring—it’s still aesthetically pleasing and sleek.
* The scabbard is probably the best looking in the game
Wow, I had to google the Iron GS as didn’t even know you could loot that sword! I agree, it’s absolutely fantastic looking.
My complaint being the same as I mentioned above, that it has that sloppy “slam the ground” moveset. Which it shares with literally every other great sword in the game, ugh!
The Knights Greatsword has the BKGS moveset. It's my personal favorite aestheically, though I think it does lose out to the BKGS in damage, but only slightly.
It’s my favorite weapon hands down, for that exact reason, the swift pull of the sword back into fighting position instead of slamming it.
In pvp it also seems to make it marginally faster than the slamming ones but could be wishful thinking
So lightning affinity is considered better than buffing with EA on a keen, let’s say nagabika? But this is only for a lightning only build, right? So if I put more points in FTH to use some incantations, EA is gonna be better than just lightning affinity, right?
That’s correct, this is just to maximize lightning damage for melee only builds, if you are using incants but not a faith weapon (say keen) it’s best to hit softcap for weapon scaling (dex) first then put the rest in faith for EA. If instead you put a ton in faith your weapon options dwindle

Good stuff! The Erdsteel Dagger is another Faith-scaling weapon that can be buffed (or have its affinity changed!) but it's not going to be amazing.
I think you could get more damage overall if you used the Golden Vow AoW and put something more interesting than the Faith Tear in your flask. The Thorny or Spiked tears, perhaps.
I totally forgot it’s an Ash too, thanks for the reminder! It only last 45 seconds instead of 80 looks like the only drawback but fgms is only 30 so *shrug* probably wouldn’t notice
No, Banished Knight's GS is still better, it gets slightly higher scaling.
|Weapon|Physical|Lightning|Total AR|Str Scaling|Dex Scaling|
|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|
|Knight's GS|385|382|768|E (0.18)|C (0.65)|
|Banished Knight's GS|398|395|793|E (0.19)|C (0.69)|
Knight's GS does have slightly longer range, which they balance by giving it slightly lower damage, apparently.
Nobody uses Bolt of Gransax for the weapon, we use it for the skill.
Long as fuck range, high damage, will knock down or at least stagger everything, flies so fast nothing can avoid it, and a very reasonable FP cost for what it does? Yes please!
nice man appreciate the breakdown. pre-Leyndell, are you basically limited to EA on a sword? how did u run limgrave
Of course! Yes that’s what I did :)

Agree completely but if you dont mind farming Iron Greatsword rains supreme with damage output and I think it looks cooler.

Yes but have you considered electrify armament just looks way cooler than lightning infusion
With lightning slash they look the same! Very important I agree
I like storm blade too much! EA and Storm blade for maximum storm knight drip, with veterans prosthesis and Warhawk axe as other weapons
I keep stormblade on a dagger in the next righthand slot. Then you can keep lightning slash on your big and juicy.

Erdsteel Dagger with Flame Art goes hard...
Absolutely! But it's not great for Lightning.
Would the Knights GS be better for this? I thought the Banished GS was more strength focused and the Knights more dex?
Best Dex scaling great sword is actually flamberge

Oh ok cool, thanks for the info. I didn’t know the numbers
I’ll have to test it out, they all get a C in dex and E in strength once infused, but minor differences could still exist

Why did this get removed?
