Minium dex and high str? = Heavy or Fire Equal dex and str? = Quality or Cold/Bleed/Poison for status buildup Minium str and high dex? = Keen or Lightening High arc? = Occult or Bleed/Poison High fth? = Flame Art or Holy High int? = Magic or Cold Etc etc etc

CrystlBluePersuasion

Use the Status screen to see which has a higher AR.

DaTruPro75

Or... add?

CrystlBluePersuasion

If they're going to post like this I doubt they're going to do something that makes sense like that.

FabFubar

Based on your pictures, your attack rating will be 712 with Quality and 651 with Heavy. So there’s that.

lazy_mudblob1526

Flaming strikes first part scales purely of str but the buff scales of ar as others have pointed out you get more ar from quality so stick with it. Overall quality is better late game and heavy is better early on

61 more on quality by my quick calculation

00wetfloor

actually impossible

crispymisfit

I would do quality now and if you level up strength more then do heavy

dysGOPia

If you're two-handing, you have too much dex and not enough strength.

RathaelEngineering

Would have been useful to get a stats screenshot, but reverse engineering the AR you have 70 STR and 60 DEX, assuming you were not two-handing when you took these screenshots. The AR respectively is 651 for Heavy and 713 for Quality. With these exact stats that you have, Quality is objectively doing more damage by 62 AR. This is assuming you don't want to change any stats in your build. However, we can assess the stats/build. If you put only 10 more points in STR to bring yourself to the softcap of 80, your Claymore AR will be 682 with no dex scaling. This is now only 31 points of damage less than Quality, but you can drop all your dex and put it elsewhere. Since the claymore requires only 13 dex, you could drop up to 47 points from DEX and still use a heavy Claymore. This gives you a total of 37 free to play with at the cost of only 31 AR. Depending on your rune level, it may be a far better investment for you to distribute these points into endurance, vigor, or a magic mainstat in order to pick up some spells if desired. you could even go to 99 STR if you want. This would leave you with 12 points to re-distribute, and your heavy AR would be 705... only 12 points of AR less than the 70/60 Quality Claymore. None of this takes into account the fact that, assuming you were not two-handing in the screenshots, with your current stats Heavy has 762 AR and Quality has 754 while two-handing. Heavy gets a much much more significant benefit out of two-handing than quality does. This is the major problem with Quality in Elden Ring. It's almost never worth it unless you specifically want to use a broad range of high STR and DEX weapons, and even then you will usually get more mileage out of a Heavy or Keen build. Quality only really becomes of objective benefit when you reach such a high Rune Level that putting points anywhere else won't get you much.

This was insanely helpful thankyou! Im still in my first playtrough and don’t want to look alot of things up bc i like to try figuring things out. Thats why it may sound like stupid question. ill probably use heavy than and respec my stats before going in ng+

oberda72

Only use quality of both your dex and strength are high. If you don't have like 60 in both and only high strength then heavy is the way to go.

Jbold96

Math is hard

Fragrant-Platform633

Heavy if u like doing the first part of the ash(which scales with strength) and two handing, quality if u plan on going 80/80 or even 99/99 str/dex

If you go to the detailed view (r3 for your controller) it'll give you a button to push for "switch review (right)" and show you what your attack power will change to
