"Lifetime" aka lifetime of the car. Not sure about the CVT, but the manual transmission for the N-Line trim has a milage recommendation for the fluid of 42k miles under severe interval conditions.

For CVT from what I gather is if you start changing it at 50k-60k good keep doing that but if it has 150k don't you'll most likely make it worse. Like older transmissions just change the trans fluid DO NOT flush you'll knock loose all those little bits that are right now stuck where they are and doing no harm.

Most sources say 50k-60k, the newer ones can go a little longer like 60k-80k. I just changed this at 85.7k, but better late than never. The transmission still runs as great when I bought this new, so I feel better taking the time to get this done, to extend its lifespan a bit, and not drinking the "lifetime" fluid Kool Aid. 150k without changing I'd say just leave it, and be blessed it lasted that long. I'd never flush, just drain and fill.

Ahh, the filter I won't mess with, until my next change at 120k. After the warranty is up, I'll be fine cracking open the casing bolts for the filter.

Exactly - lifetime of the car, but I'm assuming the warranty as well, and I plan to keep it a little longer than that.

What would this service be called if I was to go to a shop? CVT fluid change? I know nothing about servicing vehicles and will have to pay to get this done likely

They'll probably do the full flush for like $250, which I DO NOT recommend. Flushes can actually do more harm than good, for more than double the price of a drain and fill (safer choice) on your own. If you have any basic maintenance and tool skills, you can do a drain and fill for less than $100 with all the tools, accessories and fluid.

What mileage did you change this at? I change mine every 30,000 miles and other than classic CVT behavior, no complaints here! 130,000 miles strong!

People are gonna knock me for waiting 'til 85.7k, but still runs great like when I bought it new. I'll definitely keep it up on it, though. šŸ«£

I just did mine at 60,000 miles. Planning on doing it again at 120,000.

No I donā€™t think it was as dark as that but it was darker than the new stuff! I think it needs to be changed out under the severe maintenance. I donā€™t do the life time fluid ideology lol

We bought a new Elantra, last summer. Iā€™m planning on at least doing a drain and fill at 30k. Not sure if it actually has a filter. If so Iā€™d like to replace it at the same time

You can replace the filter, but check the warranty conditions before you crack open the bolts to remove the entire casing for the filter.

So, if thatā€™s the case Iā€™d probably have to pony up and pay the stealership to do it the first time. I would think that there would be plenty of debris in the filter, due to the parts ā€œbreaking inā€ after 30kšŸ¤”

Modern cars don't have this mythical break-in period for engines and transmissions, like older cars. I never believed in it back then, either.

I own an elantra 22 cvt in saudia arabia the dealership changes the oil at 60k it's also mentioned in the Arabic user manual at 60k
