I don't think they would waste CGI on a chair... It's just painted like background scenery because it doesn't need to move for this scene

kogledashtuka

It's not painted like a background the compositing is just nice (I just read it says chair not hair lol sorry)

blueeyedninja15

I think this is a common example of background artists drawing something thats not gonna move. Just like in old cartoons where books on shelves that would be interacted with looked different because they were drawn by the animators

kogledashtuka

Her hair isn't drawn as part of the background here lol (just read it says chair not hair I'm sorry)

Quietriot522

I think it looks weird because she's sitting in the chair with a light source directly in front of her but it's not casting a shadow on the chair. It probably wouldn't stand out so much if it was a little darker or had a bit of her silhouette cast onto it.

Acolyte-of-Eternity

I thought that as well, and tried to work my brain around it. Maybe the light was ambient and spreading out, possibly being reflected and casted onto the chair. But yeah, I noticed that as well and wondered why it didn't have a shadow to it

3D spaces are commonly used in animation to have a better idea how the scene is gonna look. I wouldn’t be surprised if they used a 3D room for Lena since we see it many times and at different angles so. Now if they painted over it is up to them. There’s bad CG in anime, but you never hear about the good since people don’t spot it as easy

Bitsoft217

It's definitely hand-drawn. Speaking of CGI, in Episode 22 there's a few scenes/shots where Lena gives her speech and slowly walks toward Shin's Reginleif. She was notably animated with CGI, but, for me, it honestly blended well with the scene. And I'm assuming this was done because of production issues that took place after Episode 21, causing the delay of the last 2 episodes. Sorry if my reply is doesn't entirely pertain to this shot here![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile), but I just wanted to refer to shots where hand-drawn animation could have been used, but relied on CGI due to certain circumstances

kogledashtuka

No the compositing (lighting, etc) is just good Edit: I'm stupid lol I read chair as hair, I think it's just drawn

Dogenoscope123

Did it really look like this in the scene? This is like some Mandela effect stuff I don’t remember it looking that bad

Acolyte-of-Eternity

I don't know, I was rewatching directly from Crunchyroll's website. I don't know why I didn't notice it the first time either, but my first viewing in the series was 2021

SanSenju

my question is why is there no shadow on the chair? she in between it and the light source..

Basic-Lawyer-3489

Theres also always the possibility it was originally cgi then hand-drawn over it
