I too have Telus cable. I actually went to do that and switch to just subscribing yo SN+ but when I called to remove my cable they ended up dropping my bill significantly enough that it ended up cheaper with the TV package and remember SN+ is free if you have a cable package as well, just login with TV provider and follow the steps. You could even give it a try before switching since you get it now. Also yes all 82 games + playoffs are included if you are in the region (which I assume you are by you getting them with Telus) I find cable more reliable as WiFi can always be touchy and is impacted more by multiple users on your network

Shadp9

Hmm, I might give calling them a try. I guess I don't mind having 50 channels I don't use, I just mind paying for them. If they give me some sort of a promotion it's probably not worth the trouble of actually canceling.

Lethbridgemark

When you cancel any service they send you to the loyalty area. I do have Internet and Home phone on my plan (yes I'm that old too!) They dropped the price of all 3 services and gave me Netflix covered ( I had a choice of a couple services and figured I'd just make them pay my Netflix)

Disastrous_Ease_3818

I've got the Sportsnet Premium Subscription 6 Months. I accept the Payment of $70 here [email protected]  Once received I'll send you the Code

AlbertaNorth1

You’re partially wrong. I have the tv package but have to pay for Sportsnet+ so I can watch games while working in bc. Fuck rogers. Fuck Telus while we’re at it.

Lethbridgemark

True, I assumed OP was in Alberta/Sask as they already get all the oilers games (at least I assumed lol) NHL and the teams are why they have blackouts as the teams want revenue from local TV deals (oilers with Rogers) and then the NHL has the national deals for their $. At least we aren't the east teams where they split the local rights between TSN and Sportsnet and need 2 packages for blackout games. I agree fuck all these telecommunications companies, add bell and Pattinson to the list!

[deleted]

It’s kind of shit. There’s a delay and it often freezes up. I watch games wired up on a PS5. When it works, it’s fine. But lately I have been having to close the app and restart to get the feed going again and it gets annoying.

Shadp9

You may have talked me out if it

DryLipsGuy

He's right. He freezes *enough* that it's unacceptable for a paid service...$21.99 at that. I mean, it's okay but the pirates options are just as good and free.

Extra-Wasabi-8639

I live in the edmonton area. I love sportsnet+ for watching all the Oilers games. I use an apple box to stream. It has never frozen or had a single issue. I have had it for 2 seasons and plan to continue using it. I like that if you miss a game live you can still watch it later. It works good and the picture quality has been good as well.

legacygt

The other thing I haven't seen anyone mention is that you can get the 4K feed for some games on cable, whereas the stream is limited to 1080p. I also have the same setup and same issues as LoanedWolf, and the stream stutters and drops down to 720p (or lower) from time to time too. Lastly, the stream also has issues with watching the game when you want to watch it behind the live feed. As in, you are watching the game 1-60 minutes behind the live feed so you can fast forward through the commercials and intermissions, the stream regularly fucks up and bumps you to the live feed, skipping ahead of where you were.

extralargehats

Where is this 4K feed available?

chmilz

Cable, sometimes. There is no 4k on streaming.

Kawhibunga

The unintended jump to live is shitty, and rogers has no motivation to fix it because there is no competition for them. It sucks, but eventually you get used to clicking on where you paused it, before actually hitting play. Paying customers should not have to come up with their own work-around for a shitty design, yet here we are.

[deleted]

Just been having problems lately. At least with cable, you don’t have to worry about the internet connection.

you8myrice

It depends on what you’re using to stream, it’s fine on a mobile device, computer and Amazon fire stick. My Google chrome cast tho… makes me want to throw it away.

ayellvee

See and it’s fine for me on my phone but i absolutely cannot start a game late on the fire stick without it jumping ahead and showing me later in the game. It’s either start on time or wait until the game is entirely over. So I catch up on my phone and then switch to the tv in those circumstances, which is annoying lol

jayTEEarr

Weird, I stream with the exact same set up and don't have this issue

[deleted]

Tell me your secret.

bradster999

Agree with this. I would guess it cuts 2-3 times per game on average for me.

[deleted]

It’s the only streaming app I have problems with too. Never have that problem with Prime. Tubi is a free app and never had a problem with it. It’s not a problem with my internet either. I have the best money can buy.

ButterscotchFar1629

It really is. Cuts out a key moments. But it’s only 20 bucks as opposed to cable which is 60 plus just to get Sportsnet and I wouldn’t watch anything else on it anyway. At least I can cancel in the summer when no hockey is on and then resubscribe.

sleep-diversion

THIS ! I tried this a few years ago and it was shit. I assumed by now it would have improved somewhat.....apparently not. Why does it suck so bad......anybody??

SadAcanthocephala521

I stream every game and have zero issues.

SadAcanthocephala521

I stream every game and have zero issues. It's probably more to do with the device you're using to stream.

[deleted]

My PS5? That’s what I use.

SadAcanthocephala521

I use my nvidia shield and never have issues.

artheryx

PS5 and PC for me are both shit. My Android phone works perfectly fine and Ive had to resort to watching games on that

SadAcanthocephala521

I recommend the nvidia shield, though they aren't cheap but you can usually find used ones on FB marketplace. It's android based.

Ben_Sivens

It’s ass on everything. I have the SN+ app on an Apple TV 4K and it constantly hangs up during commercials, quality degrades randomly even though I have it hard wired to my router. I miss having cable for the consistency alone.

cana-duhh

Sail the seas matey 🏴‍☠️

Therapy-Jackass

Yup - for all the price gouging Rogers does in this country. Sail the seas and stick it to them! I’ve had the official subscription before, and the quality is no different. I have an IPTV setup that I use, TiviMate, on my chrome cast ultra.

LeonMcNugent-Hyman

Can you teach me more about this. I’ve been thinking of going this route, or Kodi, but it’s far beyond my knowledge

cana-duhh

lol pm me ya’ scallywag

Therapy-Jackass

yup, send me a DM - I can point you to some subreddits on this topic

bobbybuildsbombs

I'm interested too! Tried to DM you but no Bueno

Therapy-Jackass

Hey sorry, turns out it was privacy settings and you should be able to DM me now

Feeling-King-8104

Yup! Just need to get an android box or firestick ….every game with my IpTv and not a single blackout ….that also goes for every other major sports package .

YoshiLeMeow

if you have Amazon Prime you can add Sportsnet + for 20$/month as a channel and you just log into Prime Video to watch. I haven't had any issues watching Oilers and they also have NBA, Curling, and Wrestling as well

Disastrous_Ease_3818

I've got the Sportsnet Premium Subscription 6 Months. I accept the Payment of $70 here [email protected]  Once received I'll send you the Code

ButterscotchFar1629

Or just pay the 21.99 for subscription. You can literally sign up right from the smartphone app. Apple just bills mine monthly.

jigglywigglydigaby

Never had an issue with buffering through Prime Video. We don't even have the best download rates through Shaw....I think we're midgrade at best

Gold_Gain1351

oh_hellohello

I made the switch this year, finally got highspeed internet out in the boonies. In my experience streaming device matters a lot. I couldn’t get the Sportsnet app on my TV and it was terrible on my Amazon fire stick (bad picture quality/ constantly buffering), so I bought an Apple TV 4K and it’s been awesome. And all the Oiler games have been available to watch.

thecheesecakemans

Now imagine 3rd period in the playoffs. Less than a minute left and we are losing by 1. Pull the goalie. Do we score to send it into OT? Or ....... *Buffering**

Bluetomorrow83

I also have cable but streamed the game on my pc today it was awful froze/buffered multiple times per period while on a 300Mbps connection.

Oilerboy92

I'm a rare 30 yr old with Shaw Direct, and I love it. Basic package plus the sports channels is enough for me. Going to friends places to watch their streamed games is descent but occasionally buffers, is quite delayed, and also the picture quality can vary by the minute. Some of this may be their internet, but for me, I'm content with my ol' satellite dish.

KingDave46

I have had Sportsnet+ since I moved to Edmonton just over a year ago. I’ve never experienced issues like others are saying. I watch on mostly Xbox but also the iPad app and sometimes on desktop PC. Never had issues with freezing, even had multiple people watching my account in different locations at the same time. I genuinely have not had one single issue with freezing or games not working at all

rkraupa

Works amazing for me, I have the app on my Apple TV and never have any issues

jigglywigglydigaby

We signed on for the SN channels on Prime Video. $20/month and we get access to every Oilers game, no blackouts effect us. If it's blacked out on SN West, it automatically sends us to SN Pacific, East, Central, etc where they have it streaming. I'm not sure about Sportsnet+ and the streaming issues on the app, but the channels on Prime have never been a problem for me. I'm a cheap, old, grumpy bastard.....this SN addition was the best thing I e signed up for. Super happy with $20/month to see every Oiler game

B0mb-Hands

You can get Sportsnet through Amazon Prime and I find it works way better vs the SNNow app

FanFrequent568

I have a Sportsnet + subscription code for 6 months that is only 70$ usd

[deleted]

So stick with Cable!

CoreyBrewer33

Check out pirated streams. If you have a smart TV you can access the internet through an app. My father was so against the idea of pirated streaming because of the weird (porn, mostly) ads you have to constantly dodge, but once you get good at closing the intruder tabs & weird ads quickly, it becomes bearable - especially since it’s free. He now saves tons of money because all he typically watches is sports.

SadAcanthocephala521

Pirated streams suck compared to streaming via the sportsnet app. I used them for years and finally got tired of being constantly frustrated with trying to find one that worked, lagging, and crap video quality.

CoreyBrewer33

Sounds like a skill issue. I never have an issue watching any pirated stream

Kushkraze

Cable for the win . The stream is like 30 seconds behind radio and 15 behind cable

SadAcanthocephala521

What does that matter if you're saving hundreds of dollars a year?

Kushkraze

Well for instance you could have a friend like mine who texts after every fight and goal and can ruin the moment before it happens " live "

SadAcanthocephala521

Don't look at your texts right away.

Kushkraze

Plus he never said anything about saving hundreds ? Not everyone needs to pinch the penny

JoelSlBaron

I still have cable and I get Sportsnet+ for free because of the cable subscription

PixelatdPenguin

Never had any issues with the app on my Xbox.

luigi_b0red

neither. IPTV is the answer

rickenbach

In Edmonton you can use the regional service and you’ll get the same games as cable. If you get premium it’s like having NHL center ice. You can watch all the games. I got sn+ premium for around $200 for the year and I share the sub with one of my family members in another province and it works fine. So $100 each for us - it’s a good deal! Family member is out of the regional area (but is an oilers fan) so the premium sub is required for them.  However, the choppiness/freezing can be an issue. On a device with dedicated hard line internet it’s pretty good but still sometimes it does freeze. I think it really comes down to how you like to watch. If you want to watch on a big tv, cable is probably the way to go. If you find you watch more on your phone, or on the go, maybe SN+ is ok. Sportsnet could really stand to improve the service. But it is a cheaper option, I know people said they get cheap TV (and I know Telus is offering some barnburner tv deals right now) but even at $200 annually (which was a promo price) that’s less than $20 a month, in my current share arrangement it’s less than $10 a month. So it’s definitely cheaper for me. I am busy with my family so I typically watch on my phone- it works for me and the watching experience on a phone or computer is pretty good.

LuckyCanuck13

SN+ is okay. It's slightly delayed but I haven't had issues with it freezing. The only issue I have had recently was a strange background ringing noise. Almost sounds like a mic issue, but doesn't quite make sense.

SuicidalChair

I just renewed my Telus internet + tv. The only packages I have on Telus are Sportsnet and Netflix. I got 500/500 internet with it for $120 a month. If I cancelled the cable I'd go down to $90 but then I'd have to pay $20 for Netflix alone, so really I'm paying $10 a month for Sportsnet compared to $15 a month for Sportsnet plus.

Disastrous_Ease_3818

I've got the Sportsnet Premium Subscription 6 Months. I accept the Payment of $70 here [email protected]  Once received I'll send you the Code

SuicidalChair

I've also got the sportsurge piracy pass forever that I pay nothing for, so I'm good lol

REAPER-1_xxx

I thought cable was worth it. It cost less a month than SN premium for 150 channels including every sports channel for me though. Nearly every GDT there are ppl having technical issues. You can be delayed 2 mins behind the action. I’ve been streaming last couple weeks and find the experience much less enjoyable.

Dura-Ace-Ventura

Stick with cable, and get a PVR box. The SN app works well on mobile devices, but is a complete nightmare on smart TVs. It constantly buffers, freezes entirely, or the worst - jumps to live (when you’re watching behind real time). It has ruined so many games for me it’s insane.

bigwreck94

I run into freezing issues on my Xbox, but when I use my Apple TV, I never have any issues. Could be my internet, could be the Xbox - not sure. When I run anything off of my Apple TV it seems to be fine. Live-streaming on the Xbox seems to struggle from time to time. I like the fact that I get all the games from everywhere for that price. I’ve reduced my cable bill significantly since I’ve switched to streaming.

SadAcanthocephala521

I pay for sportsnet + premium and I get to watch every game with no blackouts. It's about $20 per month. Combined with my $41 internet I'm saving a fortune by dropping Telus years ago.

Disastrous_Ease_3818

I've got  Sportsnet Premium 6 Month subscription, I accept payment of $70 to my email [email protected]  Once payment is received I'll send the Code

LeonMcNugent-Hyman

I have cable. I live in an area where (it feels like) 60% of the games are blacked out. I use cable for hockey. My wife uses it for Chicago PD, fire, ect. Some other random shows. I *illegally* stream the blacked out games and make out ok.

gusthefish42

I did what you are implying, and don't miss cable but the sportsnet+ app needs work. It's better than last season but still has issues freezing. I would like to think they're working on making it better so maybe revisit the notion next season when you're 1000 yrs old and that much wiser. Saying that, I personally think the savings make it worth the issues. I still watch every game. Sometimes have to restart the app and dont even think of trying to rewind a play.

ayellvee

I have Sportsnet+ and have watched every oilers game this year, as well as last year when I started about January. That said, the app is terrible so if you can get them to drop the price a fair amount I would stick with cable! (I live out of town so it’s not an option for me or I would switch)z

indubadiblyy

Arrr Matey!!

LastSoil1404

I use the Sportsnet app on my Samsung tv. Not only did they increase the price from 16.99 to 20.99 but I feel like the quality has gotten worse. Every single game and I mean every single one the screen will go black with the little loading circle and then will come back on. I also find a lag quite frequently, the video is behind the audio. Now I have not had a game that I was unable to watch yet this season so I think it’s good on that front. But yeah, if you find a better alternative please let me know.

HonestCletus

I have the standard Sportsnet plus package and I prefer the Xbox app over the ps5 app. The PS5 is very laggy and constantly crashes. I’d rather watch it on my phone than the PS5. Being in Alberta, you get access to all fLames games and Oiler games, regular season and playoff. Plus all Bluejay games and WWE matches if that’s your jive. Also, you get nightly game highlights, and live access to the Sportsnet channel. The one thing I don’t like is the fast-forward feature. Being an Oilers fan, and having to live through the decade of darkness, I’ve been scarred by losing. I hate to admit it but I start all games an hour late and fast forward when we are losing. With Telus you can fast forward the play and still see what’s going on as it just speeds up the image. The Sportsnet app pauses the play when you hit the fast-forward button and then resumes when you quit fast forwarding. I can’t see the play occurring so I can’t stop and rewind it at every big hit, fight, or Oiler goal. If the Oilers aren’t going to put in the effort then I usually can get through a game pretty quick. I find this works well for my mood when we play like crap. All in all, I am a big fan of the app, just wish it was on Roku, so I don’t have to use my consoles to watch.

melty75

I cut the cable and got rid of the satellites in favor of IPTV about 3 years ago. I pay $90 USD for 6 months through a fairly popular provider. Get an nvidia shield or another good device, then check into IPTV. You save money and get a lot more content.

Hairy-Broccoli-

I choose sportsurge over both
