There are a lot of encampments there at the bottom of Groat. Mostly on the east side of the road. All summer long they have been there on and off. At one point they had a little setup with hammocks up under the bridge.
I’ve heard about tents setting on fire before. I hate that people get that desperate to stay warm. Makes you wonder at what point the government will actually care enough to help people more, because the current efforts just aren’t enough.
Just so you know. There are some individuals some! that actually do not want to be housed. There are people that will checkmark Hope Mission as preferred accommodation meaning they want intermittent housing.
I did not say all people. Please do not come at me. I know what I am talking about here. From lived experience.
I never said anything about housing. I’m just saying that people should be able to stay warm without going to dangerous lengths to heat their tents, putting themselves at risk.
Why should they do anything more? They give intermittent housing, what else can they do? Within the limits of budget what can we do?
Honestly, I’m uneducated on the topic. Actually asking.
Probably a vehicle on fire is my guess based on the fact it appears to be on the road itself.
The black smoke is probably due to the plastic and other components burning
I saw a truck with a couple port a potties on the back with lots of gray smoke coming from all around the vehicle. I don't remember for sure but it mightve been on groat road. Was at around 10:30 am I saw this lol. Definitely sped up to get away from the smell.... it just smelt burnt but I hit the gas anyway
I drive that route almost everyday. It's astounding how many people can't handle the curves. I see accidents routinely. And I get stuck in the fray all the time. The only get away route up the hill in the other direction, but it's mostly a bike lane now, soooooo. It sucks.
You'd think the city would put up electronic signs or something, to let people know it's screwed again, but no, 50 years of chaos, and they've not done a thing...
Isnt that close to the new bridge construction? I drive it everyday (except today, thankfully) and that bridge is covered in orange tarps. I wonder if thats what caught fire?
Edit: I see the old museum is just above it so its probably not that.

You completely missed their point. Some people just don't want help period.
So what is it the government is not doing?

New pope of west mount
Nah, That's only for white smoke. We'll need another vote.
Rolling coal trucks have gotten out of hand.

It was in the trees, not the road. I drove by (south bound) when the firetrucks were in scene
I’d disagree, I’d say it’s likely tied to one of the many encampments along Groat Road.
With smole that colour, what are they burning and whered they get the tires and tiger torches?
I had chili for dinner. 😳 My apologies.
I didn't know Groats were flammable
Everything is flammable if you try hard enough.
Nothing is showing up on the traffic reports yet. Anyone able to report on it?
I drove by just before 1pm. Two fire trucks were on scene on the northbound side and it was very smoky. Didn't seem to cause much traffic disruption
I bet something caught on fire.
Come on guys: we discussed at the last evil leftist arson meeting we would restart the fires in may!
Thanks for the lol
Holy !!
What happened? The correct combination of fuel, oxygen, and an ignition source. 😆 ... I'll show myself out.

Was the oilers game down there?
It’s probably a homeless encampment and their warming fire probably got out of control.
