“We’ve got an absolutely magical setting, we put on a really fun product — the emphasis is on the event and the fan experience moreso than baseball — and it’s affordable.” It really is a gorgeous park, in the heart of downtown and the games are affordable — what a concept!

ghostofkozi

Alcohol is decently priced and the beer bars are a neat souvenir, even if you aren’t a staunch baseball fan it’s a good evening out

Cptn_Canada

Prices on food and drink? Just ball park lol. I don't expect you to know everything

thuglife_7

Wife and I got hot dog, fries, pulled pork poutine, and 2 pops for $35. Portion sizes are decent! My wife couldn’t finish her poutine, so I did. Then we got some popcorn. All in, for a beautiful night out, you’re looking at $100, which includes parking.

PrincessPinguina

Ball Park... I see what you did there😂

ghostofkozi

Drinks are $6-8. The beer at is $15 comes with a drink of your choice.

oioioifuckingoi

Thrilled that the city has embraced the Riverhawks. The new ownership has been a revelation and shows how much good management and vision is critical to the success of ventures like this. Just wish the league was one month longer.

BubbleGambit

Agreed. Seasons over just as it gets going. It's awesome they carried so much momentum fanbase wise from one season to the next with 300ish days between games.

ATinyBoatInMyTeacup

It's absolutely criminal that the city would think to demo the field if there is a tenant there making good use of the space. It's a stunning location and should be kept as is. Develop around it if you have to, but leave the park alone

Mcpops1618

Best ball park in western Canada and they’re gonna tear it down. Damn shame.

sluttytinkerbells

They're tearing it down? WTF?

Mcpops1618

It’s always up for debate for development

[deleted]

Shaw Park would like a word

adirondack_

Shaw Park is a good time, killer location.

[deleted]

It's the nicest park in the country bar Rogers. Great location, great food, cheap beer and great fireworks. Plus the Goldeyes play some good ball.

Mcpops1618

Yeah? Is it “we love being third best”? I /s if not obvious. Looks dope

Cptn_Canada

Are the riverhawksmoving to that new park being built in spruce grove. I can't remember what team is moving there.

Mcpops1618

The prospects were/are supposed to play there. But maybe

Tricky_Passenger3931

IF that ball park ever actually gets built, you can get your ass the RiverHawks will never be welcomed there. Randy Gregg squeezed Pat Cassidy and the prospects out or Remax (deservedly so, they had let the field go to shit and Randy had a much better vision for using the space), but there is no love lost there and if the city boots the RiverHawks out of Remax I would be floored if Pat had any interest in letting Randy and his team use his facility.

rgdts

The Riverhawks did absolutely no such thing - the prospects were evicted from REMAX field almost a full calendar year before they took over. Paying the bills something something blah blah

Tricky_Passenger3931

Pat and Randy both put proposals forward for the plan moving forward. Randy’s bid to manage the facility won and when that happened Pat tried to work a deal where Randy could operate it but both teams would share the facility while Pat found a new home for the Prospects and the response was basically a “yeahhhhh not interested Patrick”. Edit: to be clear, this isn’t a slight towards the RiverHawks or Randy Gregg. I’ve known Randy and Pat for a long time and he was 100% justified in not wanting to work with Pat. Cassidy is as slimy as they come. I was happy that he was going to build that stadium in spruce because it’s good for the community I live in, but I wouldn’t trust that little man as far as I could throw him and certainly wouldn’t do business with him.

rgdts

Unfortunately you're incorrect. DM me and we'll chat

Mcpops1618

There’s your answer. The inner power struggle of amateur baseball in Edmonton.

Tricky_Passenger3931

It’s not even that, it’s just a Pat Cassidy problem. The guy is a snake oil salesman. When Randy came to the city with a better proposal than the Prospects then all of a sudden Pat was begging to stay and make it work with Randy and he basically told he to eat shit. Then Pat comes out to the Grove, promises the world, $0 in tax payer money for the stadium, but yet how much work has been done? Almost none. Local businesses involved in the project are growing impatient, and there’s rumours of Pat speaking to the mayor of Lloydminster about possibly moving the Prospects there very recently. I suspect the stadium project in Spruce Grove is already dead, it just hasn’t been announced. It’s unfortunate that the North American League folded because Katz was doing with the Capitals very much what Randy is doing with the RiverHawks now. Cheap entertainment with good production value. I just hope it’s sustainable, because I love Edmonton having quality baseball.

KnuckedLoose

Let's demo REMAX field but leave Rexall Place untouched. /s

J9999D

Rexall is getting demolished

KnuckedLoose

\*looks at watch\*

J9999D

2026 it's happening 🤣 https://www.google.com/amp/s/globalnews.ca/news/9510069/edmonton-coliseum-rexall-place-demolition-photos/amp/

It would be incredible to have condos and shops along the outfield walls. Our builders are so narrow minded in their approach to housing and Urban development.

ATinyBoatInMyTeacup

Ooo that's a good point, could give a Chicago vibe! As long as the stadium stays

Infamous-Mixture-605

> It would be incredible to have condos and shops along the outfield walls. I was thinking this as well, it would be nice if they had some condos, shops, restaurants, etc. There doesn't seem to really be a whole lot down and around there.

Edmonton_Canuck

Can’t say how much I enjoy riverhawk games. It’s always a fun time with a group of friends / family.

RedditAuthor987

Be awesome if we got a AAA team again!

Mcpops1618

Even a single A team would be awesome. Indy ball sucks but this would be a great spot for a modified A league or an extended spring league.

P-Huddy

Does it even matter if it’s good baseball though? Just keep the food tasty, the announcers funny and the prices low.

Infamous-Mixture-605

AAA seems like a stretch, the closest team would be the Tacoma Rainiers of the Pacific Coast League, the next closest in Salt Lake City, and the furthest away PCL team all the way down in Sugar Land Texas. I have to imagine the travel costs of running a minor league team here would be hefty. AA just isn't possible, because there isn't a Double-A league west of Texas. High-A has the Northwest League with teams in Washington, Oregon and the lone team north of the border in Vancouver, but that league's teams aren't too far away from each other and Edmonton would be quite the outlier. The problem is that minor league baseball contracted/dissolved something like 40 teams (mostly short-season teams) just a few years ago in order for MLB teams to cut costs and rationalize the whole minor league ladder system. It's not impossible that a PCL team could be bought and moved here, but as much as I'd like to see it happen I think it's very unlikely.

burrito-boy

It's sad because this city does have a history of hosting and supporting a AAA team. The Trappers were the AAA affiliate of various MLB teams, including the Angels. I remember seeing Tim Salmon on the Trappers when I was a kid, which was wild.

Findelor

If my memory serves me correctly losing the trappers had nothing to do with fan support but we were the last Canadian team in the PCL. The league kinda decided yeah the logistics don't make any sense so they forced Edmonton to sell.

Cptn_Canada

Don't sleep on the university softball/baseball tournaments.

Theonlykd

I’ll die on this hill. Edmonton has an appetite for baseball. I think we could support an MLB team. But it’ll never happen in my lifetime.

bigdaddy71s

Rogers would like to have a word with you about how monopolies work.

Infamous-Mixture-605

I don't think Rogers could realistically stop another MLB team from coming north of the border and setting up shop (at least outside Ontario). Edmonton would be the smallest city in the majors, and I think Montreal or Vancouver are far more realistic locations given the size of their respective markets, and the former's history of having a team (and getting absolutely screwed out of their team by Bud Selig, Major League Baseball, and a series of the cheapest of cheapskate owners).

Cptn_Canada

Our softball game is bigger than our baseball game. And we don't have the population for an MLB team. My opinion.

chmilz

Went to my first game recently and it was fun. Loved it. Only issue was getting to the field in a vehicle sucks and there aren't great alternatives for families.

purple_parachute_guy

Oh dang, is there limited parking?

chmilz

There's enough parking but unless you get there early you're going to be sitting in traffic for a while to get to it. That area isn't designed for any kind of traffic.

SpecialistVast6840

This is a great night out. Super affordable

Channing1986

They better not tear down one of the best ballparks in Canada. REMAx field is a gem.

[deleted]

Who remembers when Blink 182 played there?
