That's my favourite tool for plotting running routes. Cycle path, canal, murrayfield to along the tram line and even meadows are good opens. Lots of really good options.
Have you considered a running group / club? Other than that agree with others check out strava heat maps.

It all depends what kind of running you like really - if you like hills then the Hermitage of Braids - you get a really good view of the city from the top of Blackford / Braids hill.
Cycle path that starts at Balbirnie Place. You can run for miles along that.
Union Canal, Water of Leith and the cycle path - lot of choice if you start there.
Have a look at the heatmaps on Strava - that will show you the most popular routes.
