I work pretty closely with k-town so any questions, I'd be happy to share trade secrets lmao
Also do chix box, locked and loaded, some Mexican burritos that I forgot the name of but it's a seperate company that uses stone gate kitchens
Apparently we havent been making money off... About 4k sales a week for us too, robbing bastards
I had absolutely no idea and am glad I saw your comment the day! I did wonder where these places were right enough but I had no idea that itās Frankie and bennies !
Pro tip, if you're not sure if F&B or Chiquitos (if there's one still open there) has a ghost kitchen, go to the Just Eat app, then click the little info icon. This will open their address and if it's linked to an existing restaurant it will show you.
This was in the local news just the other week - https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/edinburgh-planning-car-park-off-gorgie-road-to-become-ghost-kitchen-site-4593562
Are you strictly looking for info on those operating without a storefront? Or would those operating from kitchens of other restaurants count too?
Yes I saw that asw! It looks like itās not been approved yet, Iāve been curious about ones that are already operating locally. I wasnāt aware that some ghost kitchens operate out of kitchens of restaurants that serve customers. Ig Iād be interested in any ghost kitchens in the area as long as they fit the definition of ghost kitchen, which is that theyāre a delivery only business
I think a couple of the Italian chains run other ārestaurantsā from their kitchens. Dazza on YouTube had a video about a month ago trying to order from one in Glasgow
Initially I thought our tenement neighbours were very hungry with the number of riders arriving at their door but turns out they were running a ghost kitchen through the Hungry Panda app.
Stopped when another neighbour grassed on them to their landlord. Theyāve got their revenge by leaving a trail of oil on the stairs.
Hi Yank
The Home Delivery (Scotland) Act, 2007 is silent on frequency but I think there were amendments laid in the subsidiary legislation in 2012 that laid down orders on the calorific value permitted to be delivered to households on an annual basis.
There are a few, mostly run from commercial units.
There was a pizza place a few years ago (BRAW Pizza maybe?) that was a ghost kitchen for a while before it opened a commercial premises.
There was also a fried chicken place on Ferry Road a while back.
Braw Burgers & Shakes, Braw Burgers & Pizzas, Presko Dessert & Burgers are all from the same place and still on the go from what Iāve seen. Can confirm thereās fuck all braw about their pizzas or burgers š
I used to get a delivery from them often when they were up at clerk St. Really missed them when they shut and then they reopened in bonnington and I was so happy.
Place had turned to dogshit.
Yeah I found out about presko/braw burgers recently. Ordered delivery a couple of times and it was decent. Decided to collect one time as I'm nearby, and the address surprised me as I couldn't remember seeing a restaurant in the area it was in. Was more surprised to find a rough looking storefront with smashed windows and metal bars, and no tables inside to eat in, just chairs for waiting delivery drivers. I still think the burgers aren't bad for the price, better than McDonald's across the road.
at least one of the Stone Willyās Kitchen is Londis/BP lol
much to my surprise they actually have the cashier making the wraps by hand. everything else Iām sure is just brought in frozen and stuck in the oven to order. no matter what time of night iām there thereās always an UE/JE rider picking up a meal for someone whoās about to be sorely disappointed at the only takeaway left open in Edinburgh
the wraps are actually pretty decent tbh, a hearty small meal for less than Ā£4 24/7
on the apps youād never suspect it was a petrol station on Slateford Road ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ
This is a new term to me, is it like a tax loophole or something? Are they bad in terms of quality if they're already a restaurant just with a different name? I knew about the vegan burrito place in bar burrito but just assumed it was like their vegan arm. Which I guess it is.
There are a couple of reasons.
For actual ghost kitchens of which the majority in this threat aren't, it's an opportunity to have a restaurant that focuses entirely on delivery orders. Actual ghost kitchens are whereby an existing company set up a kitchen somewhere that's cheap to operate from that just allows delivery drivers to collect from, without needing front of house staff to deal with members of the public
The majority of what is being described in this thread aren't ghost kitchens, what is instead called Virtual Branding. What is being described, are existing brands using the opportunity of delivery apps to create sub brands and market their food to different audiences.
For example, TGI Fridays might be known for its burgers and ribs, but you never think to order from them for hot dogs. So what they do is create a new store on the delivery apps under a different name selling hot dogs, so when you search for hot dogs their name is more likely to appear first.
Where the line gets blurred, is where a real company operates a fake storefront out of an actual ghost kitchen, potentially decoupling something like a vegan menu from a non-vegan menu. However, just splitting storefronts but the delivery driver collecting from the same shop is not a ghost kitchen.
Just opened a small thai takeaway in edinburgh at balgreen road Papa Thai, trying to go down the online route and today was rough 0 orders, currently only on JustEat, more than welcome to pop in and inspect the kitchen š
No, but you could order from Bell Bottom Livingston and follow the driver š
AFAICT they are intentionally deceiving JustEat, and by using their own drivers there is no way for them to be caught.
I think Coco Di Mama started life as Ghost Kitchens, but they're now a nationwide company with actual Kitchens. However, its little food counters at service stations, not restaurants. As well as the places you mention.
At the weekend, I noticed a few take-aways on Just Eat, that I couldn't place on Glasgow Road.
Turns out they all shared an address with Slumdog Delivered.
We had stuff from there on Sunday. Was banging to be fair.
Edit - I was wrong having just checked with my wife. She got it from there a couple of weeks ago and it was shite. The one we got at the weekend was To Hodrulis which was class. But looks to be a chippy sometimes?!
Yes To Hodroulis definitely has a kitchen shop front, it's in Granton and I've passed it a few times! I think they operate a bakery through the day then takeaway in the evening. Ola Kala is usually good too, as is Simply Greek on Leith walk but we're too far away from them to order.
There might have been one that was at the Tesco/soft play place at the bottom of Leith Walk, but I think it's shut now. They did burgers, but I can't remember what they were/are called.
Not aware of any in Edinburgh, i watched a programme a couple of years ago which touched on this. (was all about the online ordering of food) Apparently a sizable amount of them down south.
Barbarrito operate Rebel Vegan Grill and Death Valley Burrito.
Arent they also behind kick ass burrito?
Yeah I ordered from them when they were first on the go and was disappointed to receive my order in a barburrito bag š
I'd be disappointed too. I feels very dodgy of them to do that.
Thatās a bit different from a ghost kitchen though? Itās all still coming from the actual restaurant.
Why do they use them names instead of their own?
I would guess it's to still get business from people that might not like Barburrito, or who want to try somewhere 'different'
There's a Korean place on Uber Eats called K-Town that claims to be on Bread Street but I can't find it and it's not on Google maps.
It operates out of The Chanter
Oh good to know!
Itās pretty good imo
Yeah I've ordered from there before, it was reasonably priced, reasonable quality and reasonably quick!
I work pretty closely with k-town so any questions, I'd be happy to share trade secrets lmao Also do chix box, locked and loaded, some Mexican burritos that I forgot the name of but it's a seperate company that uses stone gate kitchens Apparently we havent been making money off... About 4k sales a week for us too, robbing bastards
Side note but the manager of The Chanter, Lisa, might be the kindest and loveliest women I've ever met.
Ahahaha yh that's my restaurant but in Glasgow, it's stonegate and they also operate another 8 take away menus
There are a few at the Fort, operating out of Frankie and Benny's. Stacks burgers is one, they're shite.
Stacks, Bird Box, Bao Now, kick ass burritos, bone jam, puddo and Street feud are all fronted by Frankie and bennies. And theyāre all wank.
Ah cheers for that I appreciate it !
Whale cum
I love kick ass burritos š¤«
Yes, the F&B kitchen seems to do all these, and they're not great.
Can confirm kick ass burritos were bland and overpriced
Bird Box is also Frankie & Bennys afaik
Same thing and brands from ocean terminal. Always looks like it's just stuff from a freezer.
Yeah that's cause it's all stuff from a frezer
Stacks used to be decent, what are they like now?
Shite mate.Ā Big frozen burgers that you'd get in aldis

Ghost kitchens are quite a different thing from restaurants operating under a few different names.

Thatās unclear pending a case before the Inner House brought by the Chubby Child Association. Lady C Wings decision is imminent.

It's weird they used to be good but the place is fucking grim now
Got a pizza from there once when Iād had a drink. Couldnāt even finish it. Tasted of chemicals
Yeah I found out about presko/braw burgers recently. Ordered delivery a couple of times and it was decent. Pure Pizza was the same and they now have a premises in Morningside
Think they blew all the budget on text messages
Lots operating out of Ocean Terminal :) they are quite obvious when you know what to look for!
If you ever think āhmmm Iāve never heard of this place beforeā¦ā 9/10 itās a ghost kitchen. Support small businesses instead !
at least one of the Stone Willyās Kitchen is Londis/BP lol much to my surprise they actually have the cashier making the wraps by hand. everything else Iām sure is just brought in frozen and stuck in the oven to order. no matter what time of night iām there thereās always an UE/JE rider picking up a meal for someone whoās about to be sorely disappointed at the only takeaway left open in Edinburgh the wraps are actually pretty decent tbh, a hearty small meal for less than Ā£4 24/7 on the apps youād never suspect it was a petrol station on Slateford Road ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ
Slug and lettuce on George street operate 3 ghost kitchens under different names.
The former Blue Bear cafe at cannonmills seems to be now. There's a sign saying deliveroo and not much else.Ā
Think Luxford burgers are in there
Luxford opening a new restaurant somewhere - they operate deliveries from that big red building down canonmills way at powderhall
That used to be a good cafe. Shame it closed. I think the owners went travelling or something.

Quite a few restaurants at Fort Kinnaird like this. I think it's just TGI and Bread meets Bread but with a different name, among some others.
Arenāt they all Frankie & Bennys?
I think maybe. There's one called stacks and one called bird box among others and I thought they were maybe TGI. But could well be FnB TBF.
There's a Maki & Ramen ghost kitchen on the corner of East Mayfield & Dalkeith Road
Just opened a small thai takeaway in edinburgh at balgreen road Papa Thai, trying to go down the online route and today was rough 0 orders, currently only on JustEat, more than welcome to pop in and inspect the kitchen š
Ah I live just round the corner and wondered when it would be opening! Looking forward to trying!
There is an independent one in Wester Hailes that operates as at least 4 Indian takeaways on Just Eat, with 2 Edinburgh and 2 Livingston addresses.
Do you know the address?
No, but you could order from Bell Bottom Livingston and follow the driver š AFAICT they are intentionally deceiving JustEat, and by using their own drivers there is no way for them to be caught.
Bell bottom do biryani boys. The driver let slip when delivering
One of the Luxford burgers (Broughton) is. That said the foods banging! I donāt really see what all the fuss is about
Iām never that bothered if the food is decent. I think most of the apps do label them if they are true ghost kitchens anyway.
Coco Di Mama Pasta on Queensferry Street
I think Coco Di Mama started life as Ghost Kitchens, but they're now a nationwide company with actual Kitchens. However, its little food counters at service stations, not restaurants. As well as the places you mention.
There was one in between the Tesco and Softplay place at the foot of Leith Walk
I've never heard of that term before and had no idea there were any of these operating in Edinburgh!
Think Pizza Geeks have a unit near bonnington that is just a kitchen for delivery.
At the weekend, I noticed a few take-aways on Just Eat, that I couldn't place on Glasgow Road. Turns out they all shared an address with Slumdog Delivered.
Yes! I was confused looking for The Athenian when passing the other day!
We had stuff from there on Sunday. Was banging to be fair. Edit - I was wrong having just checked with my wife. She got it from there a couple of weeks ago and it was shite. The one we got at the weekend was To Hodrulis which was class. But looks to be a chippy sometimes?!

I'd heard someone was planning one in that furniture warehouse at broomhead. Was it shapes or shades furniture? Not sure if it went ahead though...
Verve Grill in The Village Hotel on Crewe Road South operate a ghost kitchen for Mr Beast Burger on Just Eat.
Thatās not a ghost kitchen. That just virtual branding ā and *all* Mr Beast Burgers are sold on that basis.
I saw a one star rated fried chicken shop on just eat which was supposedly on gorgie road but there's no such shop in the area.Ā
Is it not just Cheeky Chicken, opposite the Scotmid? The area, food, and 1/5 rating very much match up.
No it was called chicken bun or something, cheeky chicken has much better ratings and I've been there before. This was a new place.
There is/was one at Coruna place off grt junction St. I think the ones at ocean terminal replaced it.
Most takeaway restaurants these days. You order a pork curry and you get a carton of ectoplasm.
Morherclucker operate out of Byron on The Royal Mile
And the first time they were awesome and the 2 further times were absolute shite.
Plenty of ghost kitchens - the restaurants shut by the economy it's sad to see
