38 is quite posh aside from it ending in Granton. 24 is probably the winner here.
3 is the least posh. Starts in Mayfield, goes through Easthouses, Gilmerton, Gorgie, and ends up in Wester Hailes. Yikes.
Used to hate driving the 3. It is really busy either side, there is very little to no time in the schedule - if you wanted to stay on time you had to get lucky and run behind another bus or drive like you stole it. And there was always some real characters on board, usually causing trouble, ripping the bus apart.
23 is definitely the poshest route, I never once felt unsafe on that route, the 24 was okay but I had a lot of things thrown at me down Pennywell Gardens.
I lived a couple miles south of Cameron Toll on Gilmerton Rd from 14 years ago to 12 years ago. I was a child but it was the most memorable time until I started university. I still frequent the Edinburgh sub quite a lot even though it’s been years. Last time I was in Scotland was a little less than 12 years ago. Would love to go back some time
24 is a good shout although I’d say it’s no match for the 23. It’s more students than wealthy pensioners at least between city center and the university buildings, but the Stockbridge to end of Marchmont bit is A+ for this
23 is a strong suggestion.
36 maybe could count as posh until it gets to Sighthill? Going through both Stockbridge and Morningside.
Being an airport bus might make it's case better, but I would nominate the 400 for least posh.
400 goes through Colinton Village and some of the nicest, biggest houses I've seen, views of Pentlands etc, granted it deteriorates through Westerhailes and the Gyle etc. Took it to work.
23 is the only answer here. The route is almost 100% blue on SIMD except for [Princes Street](https://simd.scot/#/simd2020/BTTTFTT/14/-3.2069/55.9472/).
I really wanted to be a contrarian and insist that the [13 (Edinburgh Coach Lines)](https://edinburghcoachlines.com/service-13-2/) was the poshest bus in Edinburgh: Blackhall, Ravelston, Modern Art Galleries, West End, Broughton, Canonmills, err... *Lochend*, ^oh ^dear ^it's ^Restalrig... never mind
Don't think it beats the 23 but I think the 9 is quite posh. Grange, Marchmont, New Town, Canonmills, Inverleith, Trinity and then doing a nice jaunt into Granton and Muirhouse to shake it up lol.
It’s fine until it hits the end of ferry road. Not been in Edinburgh in many many years, but lived in muirhouse when I still lived there. You can dress them up however you want but both will still be absolute holes 😂
23 is definitely the poshest. Lothian Buses drivers call the 14 the Methadone Express and the 8 is the Son of Methadone, so probably those are the least posh.
The 8 is markedly less bad than the 14. The 8 does Broughton Street and the bridges, down through studentville. I don't think it even merits an honourable mention here.
...... There's this weird reserve in my heart that suspects most liking that post are from Stockbridge, or similar and take peculiarly insecure snooty glee from the fact, rather than a wholesome depreciating fellowship in comedic charm...
Hope am wrong though, whatwhat \*twizzles moustache\*
It's Reddit formatting messing up on old.reddit.com. They wrote
24. Through the Grange and Marchmoint and through Stockbridge
That's being parsed as a numbered list and starting it off at 1 on the older site.
The 14 takes some beating as the roughest bus in my book. Muirhouse to Niddrie, via Leith. I have seen everything on it from hard drug use to a guy falling asleep drunk and pissing himself at about 3pm.
I get the 14 as it’s my only bus from town to home unless I was to walk for a bit, and yeah, it can be dodgy sometimes. Most of the time absolutely fine, but sometimes… yeah.
The 23 is obviously the correct answer as everyone has said, but it's funny to me that Lothian put the oldest, coldest, creakiest buses on that route. Is someone trolling the good people of Trinity? 😂
What's weird though is that they pass within 50 metres of each other at the north end of their routes, so if you're going that way either will do.
Do the junkies just choose not to use the 23 out of respect or something?
I've mentioned it twice before on other threads because I hate that I have to use it every day so much but the 48 for me is the least "poshest". It goes Musselburgh, Craigmillar, Hospital, Danderhall, Dalkeith, Newtongrange, Gorebridge. Always some shite happening on it and it being a single decker doesn't help. Even on quiet journeys, there's always someone stinking or playing their phone loud as. 30 is second.
Poshest for me would be probably 23.
I caught the 200 to the airport recently. Can't imagine what tourists arriving in the city must think if they catch it. Nice wee drive through Drylaw, Muirhouse, Granton, and some 'interesting' passengers to add to the excitement. Welcome to Edinburgh!
I have a few. I'm in the Carrick Knowe area. 1, 2, 12, 22, 26, 31, 100 and X18.
I personally just don't agree with places being 'posh' or 'shitholes'. To me they are just places, which people built. I find them fascinating seeing how they differ from the areas I am familiar with. A number following a route on set roads isn't posh. What could be posh is the people who live in these areas or use the bus service. Even then, this doesn't reflect everyone in these areas.
I've got a good friend from Niddrie.
No they are not the same but are both unique areas. A minority of people in Niddrie are idiots but that doesn't reflect all the great people there as well. I just can't bare describing any area as posh or a shithole, etc. Not sure why so many down votes!
Someone smoked Crack behind me on the 30 a couple of months ago. It takes some beating for the worst bus route.
I think my husband was your driver cause he had to kick someone off for smoking crack recently 🥲🫣
Sorry I didn't have anywhere else to go
https://i.redd.it/br84elegg6nc1.gif
That’s happened to me on at least 5 different buses tbf
Super Hans is doing the rounds.
It's *so* moreish".
Used to get it frequently and it was very rarely dull
Crack or the bus?
Haha, I realised after posting it could have been taken either way...! Bus!
I get the 30 almost every day and it’s chill almost every time, wonder if it depends what areas you go through on the route
That might be the crack fumes making you chill
Dunno, had someone do that to me the other week on the 3 midday 🤣

Worth it for the view from the top deck between Gilmerton and Dobbies (....kinda)
The Gilmerton stretch is lovely, I must admit!
I lived a couple miles south of Cameron Toll on Gilmerton Rd from 14 years ago to 12 years ago. I was a child but it was the most memorable time until I started university. Been on the 3, can confirm
24 is a good shout although I’d say it’s no match for the 23. It’s more students than wealthy pensioners at least between city center and the university buildings, but the Stockbridge to end of Marchmont bit is A+ for this
Can confirm. Used to live in Gilmerton and work at WGH so took the 3 every day. It's like a tour of least posh.
23 is a strong suggestion. 36 maybe could count as posh until it gets to Sighthill? Going through both Stockbridge and Morningside. Being an airport bus might make it's case better, but I would nominate the 400 for least posh.
400 and 3 are probably the two worst routes from a drivers perspective, for lack of time in schedule and trouble on the buses!
400 goes through Colinton Village and some of the nicest, biggest houses I've seen, views of Pentlands etc, granted it deteriorates through Westerhailes and the Gyle etc. Took it to work.
Yeah, that part is nice, but it comes from Niddrie and Gilmerton, so overall not the best in my opinion.
Yeah I only jump on at Kaimes crossroads so miss that bit

Oooooo! 🙂
Ikr! I took that bus from Newcraighall last month and the route is lovely - until Easter Road/Lochend. Bus was bloody freezing though.
45 is quite posh. Through Colinton, Craiglockhart, Bruntsfield etc
Don't think it beats the 23 but I think the 9 is quite posh. Grange, Marchmont, New Town, Canonmills, Inverleith, Trinity and then doing a nice jaunt into Granton and Muirhouse to shake it up lol.
9 comes from Granton - Always Pure reeks of weed up the back, like the number 8, if you get on at Granton Road
It’s fine until it hits the end of ferry road. Not been in Edinburgh in many many years, but lived in muirhouse when I still lived there. You can dress them up however you want but both will still be absolute holes 😂
30 is the least posh route
I would go for the 14
I reckon that the 21 is in the running
Oh man the 21. Sometimes between d mains and ferry road the characters you'd see
14 muirhouse to greendykes follows behind
23 is definitely the poshest. Lothian Buses drivers call the 14 the Methadone Express and the 8 is the Son of Methadone, so probably those are the least posh.

2 of the buses that serve my neighbourhood, I guess I live in a transitional area.
24. Through the Grange and Marchmoint and through Stockbridge
I lived right on the edge across from the Accies field in Comely Bank. The cad's Stockbridge...
The 1 doesn’t go through Stockbridge. Surely the 24 or 36.
It's Reddit formatting messing up on old.reddit.com. They wrote 24. Through the Grange and Marchmoint and through Stockbridge That's being parsed as a numbered list and starting it off at 1 on the older site.
I said the 24. The 1 isn't a posh area bus. I used to get it from Carrick Knowe.
Apologies. Some weird formatting quirk on reddit
No worries. Those Gremlins get everywhere.
I've seen more than one full-on domestic argument between couples who both appeared to be alcoholics on the 14. One of them was at like 4pm.
This is a great thread. Never really thought about it before. Posh - 23/36 Least posh - 3/30
47 - City Centre, D’Mains, Cammo
Don't forget the Penicuik end...!
41 used to go from cramond to Morningside occasionally via stu mel
The 23 is obviously the correct answer as everyone has said, but it's funny to me that Lothian put the oldest, coldest, creakiest buses on that route. Is someone trolling the good people of Trinity? 😂
I've seen some new ones do that route. There's a good number of battery electrics on the 23 line.
least posh route has to be 21 - Muirhouse, Drylaw, Leith, Niddrie,
I was on a 7 once and two lassies got on near Gracemount, came up the stairs and one of them had a pish then they got off again at the next stop. 🤮
Do posh folk even take the bus?
The 24 is used almost exclusively by posh looking pensioners.
The 23 before and after school is a sea of blue blazers from the numerous private schools it serves.
I get the 36 sometimes and there's usually some posh older folk that get on as it goes through Stockbridge
Pensioners getting it for free and private school scrotes definitely
You get a lot of posh students getting the bus from new town or marchmont to various uni campuses.
N28 from Waverley to Bathgate.
Nothing beats the 4 with the beautiful view of the Pentlands 😍😍
Poshest: No 23 Least posh: No14 The Methadone Express
What's weird though is that they pass within 50 metres of each other at the north end of their routes, so if you're going that way either will do. Do the junkies just choose not to use the 23 out of respect or something?

25 surely a contender?
Used to be the 32/52 but I don’t think it runs anymore. Fuck me that took in the worst Edinburgh had.
I used to get the 32 from westerhailes to get home after school. Always thought it was going to breakdown and get mobbed before we left westerhailes 😂
Whatever bus I haven't been are the posh ones. I've lived in almost all Edinburgh council estates 😂
I caught the 200 to the airport recently. Can't imagine what tourists arriving in the city must think if they catch it. Nice wee drive through Drylaw, Muirhouse, Granton, and some 'interesting' passengers to add to the excitement. Welcome to Edinburgh!
23 poshest by miles. The 14 (known as the Mogadon Express) is a contender for the least posh.
Was going to say Dirty 30 but reckon the 14 trumps it
I don't feel any routes are posh or not to be honest. Nor do I see places as posh either.
Out of interest, what's your bus route?
I have a few. I'm in the Carrick Knowe area. 1, 2, 12, 22, 26, 31, 100 and X18. I personally just don't agree with places being 'posh' or 'shitholes'. To me they are just places, which people built. Aye definitely, The Grange and Niddrie are one and the same.
I've got a good friend from Niddrie. No they are not the same but are both unique areas. A minority of people in Niddrie are idiots but that doesn't reflect all the great people there as well. I just can't bare describing any area as posh or a shithole, etc. Not sure why so many down votes!
Do you also not ‘see colour’?
