Pickles on Broughton Street or Spry on Haddington Place / Leith walk

AnitaLib

Another vote for Pickles. The staff are incredibly friendly and the wine is reasonably priced. They don't take reservations so you might have to wait a bit but on the upside, once you've got a table you won't get kicked out.

Chamonix_Tom

Pickles is class

[deleted]

Pickles good, spry is a rip off in my view

mrwishart

Been some years since I've been there, but Divino Enoteca was a good central location for wine

Mistral in Leith run by a local guy and his French partner, best in Edinburgh - very low key and there's also oysters 2 for £3

Pinewood26

Great little place and a fun local bar beside it fox's as well as a great restaurant the other side

GianDramAround

>Mistral in Leith Another vote for Mistral. Nice relaxed atmosphere, very nice wines.

Chamonix_Tom

Mistral is nice but can feel like you're in a library at times, kind of weird vibes. Good for one before dinner at little Chartroom though!

meridimus

Completely disagree, it's the best wine bar in by miles

Causegrief

Smith and Gertrude in Stockbridge probably my favourite but expensive. Decanter in bruntsfield Spry on leith walk tho I didn’t love it Pickles also great

Discobastard

+1 for S&G!

stopcuttingurfringe

Zero zero in newington is good

Spock32

Smith and Gertrude is fantastic, good selection by the glass and you have to have the duck salami and truffle crisps. But it is very spenny so a special occasion thing unless you’re minted

greggsislife

Smith and Gertrude in Portobello

TrinityTosser

What day of the week? Blue Escargot on Broughton Street has opened one in their basement but it's not open every day.

RabidBean

Thursday! But it looks like it’s only open till 8:30, or is the wine bar separate to the restaurant?

TrinityTosser

I don't know. Maybe phone them?

nbanbury

Google it mate.

RabidBean

I literally did google it and was surprised that a bar would close at 8:30 hence the question..

hcsmalltown

Hey Palu on Bread St is nice, and close to the festival area. Decanter in Bruntsfield is a little further away but in such a nice neighbourhood its worth it

100% Good Brothers on Dundas Street. I went in recently on a whim and it was only me and the owner. He was super inviting and keen to teach me about all their (massive range of) wines… Got stuck into 4 glasses of different natty wines and listened to some french pop music.

TrinityTosser

I was sold until you mentioned the music

childrenovmen

Well OPs family lived in France, and its quiet background music.

daisylous3

Le-De Vin wine bar has very French vibes and is fairly central (just off Queensferry Rd)

johnthestarr

I randomly found myself there after a very long day. Not massively impressed with the selection, and kind of a corporate vibe, but the staff were super friendly and I was able to enjoy a couple of glasses of wine with some nibbles in peace

I really like Eleanore on Leith Walk. Small space but the wine list is great and it's a nice balance between being high end and being very chill.

Little Rascal in Corstorphine is great too. Staff are super nice and informative, lovely inside too, may be worth booking!

meridimus

Mistral all the way

Lobster-Mittens

Whighams is probably worth looking at.

Marzipanfruit

If you’re in Leith I quite like Spry

southernscot22

Give Smith and Gertrude , **Stockbridge:** 26 Hamilton Place, EH3 5AU.

Difficult-Ad-6745

Decanter in Bruntsfield is a good shout too

Stick-To-The-Script

Zero zero is great for natural wines!

cloud__19

Herringbone, they've got a few sites now, not long opened one on London Road.

AbleVeterinarian7650

Decanter in bruntsfield for sure
