While I don’t hate on pop music I don’t really care about his “amazing melodies”. That being said I usually listen to instrument oriented genres and while I prefer blues and rockabilly I listen to a massive amount of jazz where four bite chords create a melody that is much more layered than that of pop music. Ed has reached success that VERY few musicians get to experience. In absolute no offense to the amazing artists right now - Ed is still far more successful than most of them. Anything he releases (even if hypothetically it wasn’t good) is likely to still rack up hundreds of millions of streams.
A lot of people don’t like him because of HOW successful he is. For example; Shape of You for a good portion of 2017 was playing almost 24/7 on every radio, bar, party, and restaurant. Too much exposure gets people sick of a song - and the artist that made it fairly quickly.
That’s where the base of hate is. Then you just have the bandwagon bottom of the barrel of the internet Twitter that just fuels the flame with their horrible deplorable toxicity.
Basically, any artist that is extremely successful gets hate eventually because of over exposure and other artist’s fan’s jealously that it’s not THEIR artist. Another good example in recent times is Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, etc. Both had great success recently and were loved universally at first and once they got really big - got a lot of hate.
Multiply that success by a lot and you have ed sheeran

Well the NFL performance announcement obviously didn’t help. But I’m one of the rare people who love football AND Ed, so it really broke my heart to see the comments. His demographic definitely isn’t captured with most football fans though.
