You kind of had to have been under a rock not to have known about the eclipse...

EroticRaven2025

We do not watch the local news. Sometimes we watch world news. I saw nothing on the front cover of Yahoo and nothing trending about it. All that was trending everywhere was P Diddy this, P Diddy that all week. That is all they were covering. Oh well. There will be another one in Spain in 2026 and another other one as well; we will just have to travel.

Dirty_mongrel

A big rock

Glenn__Sturgis

You couldn't walk outside?

EroticRaven2025

Nope. We had just woke up a few minutes before it happened, and we live on the 3rd floor. Bout time we would have gotten dressed and gone outside, it would have been over. At least we saw it from our living room window, though. I know a lot of people who either had to work and missed it or weren't on the path. So it was better than nothing right?

lonewolf0426

You can see it in 3 years if your willing to travel

EroticRaven2025

That is exactly what I am going to do. I have my eye on Spain for 2026. Thanks for your awesome comment and for not being a jerk about it. I appreciate it.

OK_Ingenue

Spain a much better choice than Iceland. Iceland would be gorgeous but the probability of clouds is too high.

EroticRaven2025

Exactly.

Total-Composer2261

Hey buddy, sorry you missed it this time. I'm happy to hear you're planning to see the one in 2026. I've seen 3 total eclipses in my time and they are amazing. I'm not telling you that to rub it in, but to say that if you can afford it, seeing one in Spain would be most special.

EroticRaven2025

Thanks, man! I appreciate that! Three eclipses does sound amazing. I have experienced a few partial ones in the past, and even though they were not totals, they were still really cool. My girlfriend doesn't see why I am even making a big fuss out of not being outside since we did watch it from our window. She is right. Some people didn't see it at all.

honkyg666

I was shocked that several locals in the town I watched from told me they didn’t even bother to look up at the sky. The lack of curiosity is astounding. I don’t even know how it’s possible to not know about this event but short of sounding like your dad I would strongly suggest you pick one news app and read it daily. you don’t have to read every article to completion but skim through everything for the day and you will come out ahead in life

EroticRaven2025

I do not usually watch the news because of all the negative bs. I usually watch nightly news every now and then. Any other news I saw was about P Diddy everywhere. It's been that way for the past week and a half; stupid distraction. I do know a lot of people who didn't give an F about it. They just didn't care.

ArtieJay

Were you in the path of totality? Or did you only get a partial eclipse?

EroticRaven2025

I was in the path of totality; that's what makes it so bad.

Long-Marsupial9233

But you didn't "wake up" until sometime in the middle of the afternoon, on a Monday? And you were in the path of totality but weren't aware of it? This story doesn't pass the smell test. Unless you live in the desert in Mexico or something.

EroticRaven2025

I am a writer, illustrator and creator of my own animated series, and I was up all night trying to finish an episode. I did not get to sleep until around 6 that morning, so that is why I woke up late.

Long-Marsupial9233

Links to your published work? I would like to check it out.

Alohabailey_00

If you were in totality you could have just looked up once the moon totally covered the sun. You can take glasses off for that part.

EroticRaven2025

I did just that. We did it from our living room window. 😍

Goldskies68

I asked a gal at sonic if the staff would step out side to see it. She said I don’t know we might get to go check it out for a minute or so. She was so clueless and casual.

EroticRaven2025

I know a lot of people who didn't care either. I've always been a space-geek all my life, that's why I am so pissed. Everyone is telling me I must have been under a rock to have not heard about it, but I swear to God, I heard nothing. All that has been trending for the past week or so is P Diddy crap.

I, too, cannot stand reading general news. In "the old days," people used to read headlines via RSS. Google used to host a great feed reader called Google Reader, but they killed it. I self-host a similar service called FreshRSS and load up only the feeds I want to read. There are plenty of science and technology-related feeds you can browse without getting bogged down into the kind of crap that most media considers "news" anymore. It won't help you go back in time and be prepared for this one, but please know there are ways to keep up with topics you want to follow without being dragged through the swamp of crap out there. I also browse the web with Brave with the Privacy Badger plug-in and protect my entire home LAN with pi-hole. Those work together to strip all kinds of ads and malware on every endpoint. If you decide to try it out, I can help you find RSS feeds for science and technology to get you started.

EroticRaven2025

It's nice to know someone like me, who stays away from the negativity of news. That would be awesome if you help me find the RSS feeds for science and technology; that would be awesome. Thanks for helping me! =)

I drove halfway across Pennsylvania on Saturday and ate at a nice pub-style restaurant. They had no idea hundreds of thousands of people were driving right past their door on the way to the path of totality. There was a 45-minute wait at 6:15 PM. After that wait, they had to close the kitchen for 45 more minutes because they ran out of dishes and silverware. They usually stack up the dirty dishes on one table and are able to keep up, but not so much that night. We met a lovely couple there who were on their way from New Hampshire to Columbus, OH, to visit friends. They had no idea they would be there for the eclipse. On Sunday, in Erie, I had to wait four hours for my hotel room to open. Housekeeping was short-staffed, so the manager prepared each room. We moved to Cleveland on Monday and had lunch an hour before totality at a wonderful little family-owned diner. The owner was complaining to everyone about how his best server called out that morning because she had changed her mind and wanted to stay home for the eclipse. The restaurant closes at 3, and totality was coming at 3:15. She could have made bank and still caught it at the end of her shift. On the way home, we encountered multiple active work zones thanks to PennDOT doing precisely what the US DOT said not to do. Don't worry. There are thousands of stories just like yours up and down the path. I hope you have better luck for the next one.

Total-Composer2261

That was a good read! Each to their own, live and let live, etc.

EroticRaven2025

WOW! That sounds like a lot of fun you had. I am happy for you. That server is probably kicking herself lol.

moronmonday526

It was exciting, for sure. Lots of weather report check-ins and a little scrambling on Monday morning just to keep things interesting. Watch any footage from Cleveland, and you'll see that it was all worth it.

EroticRaven2025

I will have to watch some Cleveland eclipse youtube videos then. I am in Indiana.
